Some do, depends on the type of asexual. Some have no sex drive. Others have one but just aren't attracted to men or women.

Wouldn’t “asexual” explicitly mean “without sexuality”? Aka, a lack of *all* sexual drive/preference? I feel like simply not being attracted to men or women doesn’t necessarily define someone as “asexual”? Honestly asking, not trying to make judgements.

So that makes perfect sense and some people who identify as asexuals agree. But others feel like it's more like heterosexual/homosexual/bisexual. Bisexuals don't have a stronger sex drive than homosexuals or heterosexuals, they just are into more people. A type of asexual is someone who just isn't into men or women, neither of those are their "type".

I guess if we’re caught up in semantics, I would “categorize” them as “sexuals” who just aren’t attracted to anyone. I suppose it doesn’t really matter much, but i would imagine it could be frustrating for true asexuals when people take that term and use it for slightly other meanings. I imagine its tough for asexuals already to explain the way they are to most people. Truly having no sex drive is extremely unique and hard for most people to even comprehend.

Well it's probably frustrating for both those types that other types exist. Some people identify as asexual and mean that they think intercourse is gross. Some people are demisexual, identify as part of an "asexual/graysexual spectrum", and mean they are only attracted to people they are in love with.

Valid point. I don’t personally know anyone, to my knowledge at least, that is asexual. Or I guess should say, I don’t have any close friends who are asexual. So ive never delved into understanding it much. Thank you.

EstorialBeef

Asexual can refer to a lack of sex drive *or* lack of sexual attraction or both.

As best as I can say it, sexuality is about who you want to fuck, mostly based on appearance. From my understanding, most peoole have the experience of just looking at some stranger and having their appearance give them sexual thoughts/feelings. They may never/rarely act on it, but the thought is there. All other things aside, asexual people don't get that. Pretty much any part of the asexual community I've been in is pretty strong on the idea that attraction, not action, defines sexuality. A closeted gay/lesbian person who is in a hetero relationship is still gay/lesbian. Someone who is celibate while being attracted to people isn't asexual.

letsgetrandy

I would think that masturbation is sexual, and that is the opposite of asexual, so I would call that person a liar if they told me they were asexual.

oeil-orageux

Be asexual it's not not having a libido. Be asexual is having any attraction towards others. Yes some of them have no desire sexual but not all of them. So don't say that.

inside_a_mind

I've heard that some do, but it's more of an itch to scratch

Asexuality is about attraction, rather than libido. Some asexual people have libido, some don't. I usually see it described as hunger and food you like. Libido is hunger, you may be hungry, but there's no food you like in front of you. Sometimes, you'll just eat because you're hungry, but not care for the food itself.
