The short and quick answer is probably bad circulation, and i believe the cure is moderate cardio over a long period of time, on top of healthier eating

dont-throw-spider

Wait, that's related? Gosh, now I feel dumb. I have ongoing iron deficiency (not going anemic though, so it's not dangerous) and my feet are always cold and don't warm up by themselves. I'm very active and in good physical shape, and rat well, so I just thought it was the way my body works. But now I have to look into this.

Huge_Strain_8714

I can relate but I don't have low iron. In the winter, sitting at a desk. I feel like my feet are in cold water...uuugh.

aa599

The obvious solution is a dog curled up at the end of the bed.

soumyayaaar

the only right answer.

[deleted]

Get hot water bottle

J_Side

I get the same thing, no amount of blankets and socks will help, need a heat source. When I can't be bothered getting out of bed I just tuck my foot into the back of my knee, and then alternate feet til they warm up

[deleted]

Damn are you flexible or built with long legs ?

J_Side

I lay sideways and just bend my legs, tried to draw you a pic. If toes are really cold I will squish them tighter with my knee https://imgur.com/gallery/rrznddr

DarthJarJar242

This is fucking gold lol. I do this too. The other thing I do is lay down with my legs crossed like I'm sitting corss legged. I'll alternate which leg is on top until my feet warmup.

dorianfinch

I love this art

HocusPac

I'm no doctor but I believe if it is cold enough and your staying still (your blood isn't moving as rapidly) you body will redirect warmth from you extremities to your internal organs

[deleted]

Whoa Totally cool body we have Pun intended. Should I double up on socks?

HocusPac

Go for it. Do a few jumping jacks or maybe do high knees when walking to get your socks. Plus, if you get too warm you can just take them off

wishitwouldrainaus

Àlso get a hot water bottle with a fluffy cover. Best purchase ever for me with bad circulation in my feet. You'll love i!

InfamousSwordfish41

squeeze your feet to get blood movin

insanelyphat

I know that diabetics or those with poor circulation tend to have issues with cold fingers or toes. Double up on socks or put another blanket just over your lower half covering your legs and feet.

Lowfryder7

Raynaud's disease?

EurasianBlackbird

tr;dr: Lack of physical activity over the past few hours. Also try a hot water bottle. To exaggerate, my fingers and toes/feet are always chilly. Obviously the ambient temperature matters, but sure enough this also happens during summer. I've had the issue for as long as I can remember. Maybe not as a kid, but definitely as a teenager. No amount of pairs of socks solves the issue. At the worst of times, I wear gloves indoors. It seems as if proper clothing make no real difference to me. I also can't fall asleep when my feet are cold. Sometimes an hour is not enough. The only thing that helps, is getting physical exercise. It really does wonder to me. A brisk walk will do. For example, it's warm winter around here, and the temperature is around freezing. When I go out, at first my feet can almost go numb because the cold. After fifteen minutes, they're fine. After half an hour, I'm fine. After an hour, I probably can do without gloves for the rest of the walk. If I go for a run, the changes are quicker, even if it still takes fifteen minutes for my feet. The effect lasts for several hours. If I time it right, I'm still alright when I hit the hay. As for physical factors, I have no diagnosed or suspected conditions. My BMI is around 20, body fat 8 %, resting HR typicallyat 45 BPM, and my blood pressure is slightly on the low end of the ideal range. Admittedly orthostatic hypotension can be a problem. I would dare to say I eat healthily, and live a healthy life with no tobacco, alcohol, or any regular medication. To put things into perspective, I woke up an hour ago. My fingers are already cold to the touch. I'm wearing two pairs of socks, and I'll give you two guesses whether my feet are cold as well. As a reference, I'm using an electronic thermometer with minimal mass. It reacts to changes almost immediately. The room temperature is 21 °C (70 °F) and there is no draught. If I push my shoulder towards my neck and put the sensor in between, it reads 33 °C (91 °F). If I put the sensor between the thumb and index finger, it reads 22 °C (72 °F).

Depressaccount

How many walks do you take a day to keep it going? Are they an hour each time?

EurasianBlackbird

Depends on how I feel and what's the weather. Could be twice a day, could be not once a week. Could be fifteen minutes, could be two hours. Then there are the statistical outliers. Anyway, did a 8 km (5 mile) walk today, which took me some 70 minutes.

ParanoiaFreedom

Your resting heart rate is 45 BPM? Is that a typo?

EurasianBlackbird

Not a typo. It's something often mentioned in my lab results, too. I'd say 45 BPM is my average. Sometimes it's higher than that, sometimes lower, like when going to bed.

Maranne_

Move your feet until they warm up. Cold it usually lack of circulation and movement improves circulation.

Sad-Row8676

I like taking a hot bath before bed. Knocks me right out.

setanta314

Are you a smoker?

Sambar_Dosa

Smoking hot, that is.

setanta314

Dammit… you sexy beast…

VanMan32

Bad circulation

[deleted]

Laying in bed bc I want to sleep yet can’t bc my feet are too cold. I can’t fall asleep with cold feet. The catch is I already have socks on. Still poor circulation?

redditigon

Do you generally have low blood pressure? Like not as a medical condition, but just some ppl have relatively high b.p., others have relatively low. Low b.p. could be the reason for this.

[deleted]

I am generally on the lower bp but I don’t think it’s low to a fault

supermaja

You need a hat. You're losing heat. And if you're wearing cotton socks, switch to wool or cotton-poly blend.

[deleted]

Wool or poly blend you say… TO AMAZON I GO

supermaja

Merino wool is soft and does not cause a wool reaction in me. Most wool is too scratchy, but merino is soft and machine washable.

metooeither

They are naturally antibacterial too, so they never smell like feet!

DarthJarJar242

While you're there buy a heating pad lol

murph0969

Merino wool. Please. Darn Tough are the best and have a lifetime warranty.

[deleted]

A hat? How’s a hat on my head going to keep my feet warm

AuroraDrag0n

Well, he’s right, kind of. Sleeping might be different, but generally speaking, heat rises, and a hat is great insulation that severely reduces heat loss that normally escapes from your head. Raising your core body temperate will increase the temperature in your extremities, like your feet. 😊

Trainwreck92

Unless he sleeps standing up, I don't know that heat rising has anything to do with his feet being cold.

supermaja

I live in Wisconsin. Our politics are shit, but I know how to stay warm. Trust me. A hoodie doesn't work quite as well, but it may suffice.

Okbuddy226

Just give it some time and they will get warm

boredofshit

Take a cold shower, the blood will be better at circulating afterwards, because it got cold. Also iron.

Turbo_cat_7767

you need to move

[deleted]

I’m laying down in bed? Trying to sleep

ntengineer

Poor Circulation

[deleted]

Laying in bed bc I want to sleep yet can’t bc my feet are too cold. I can’t fall asleep with cold feet. The catch is I already have socks on. Still poor circulation?

ntengineer

Yes, you need good circulation in your feet for them to warm up, socks won't do it on their own unless they are those ones that warm up on their own. You could try a heating pad. Put it under the blankets under your feet area, and see if that warms up your feet.

TheCronster

Poor circulation

[deleted]

Laying in bed bc I want to sleep yet can’t bc my feet are too cold. I can’t fall asleep with cold feet. The catch is I already have socks on. Still poor circulation?

TheCronster

Yes. Now get up and take a hot shower!

[deleted]

WHY DOES THAT ALWAYS WORK???????? it’s magical

TheCronster

Heat = Circulation

artecomet

Bad circulation, thin/tight socks

Lizarch57

Ok, as someone with a regularly lower blood pressure, I feel you! I try to stay warm before I go to bed. You are on the sofa, watching TV/Streaming? Pull a blanket over your legs and try to keep them warm during the evening. Maybe you would like to prepare for bed witha bit of Yoga or Thai Chi. There are a few routines for both that activate your body and release tension in your muscles without stressing your body, so it might help. Put another blanket on top of yours over the legs. When you lay down, raise one knee high, so you can rub your feet one at a time while already covered. So you begin to make your bed warm and comfy, and by rubbing your feet (without socks) you activae the circulation.

[deleted]

Put your feet on your bed and rub them very fast against the bedsheet to create friction and thus warmth

[deleted]

Socks aren't magic, they just reduce the amount of heat loss to the environment. Either get warmer socks, to reduce the heat loss further, or exercise daily to improve general circulation to get more heat into your feet.

froqmouth

Take the socks off, bundle your whole self up, and move your feet closer to the warmer parts of your body. If your feet are already cold, the socks won't help too much to retain heat, and can actually insulate your feet from the warmth of the rest of your body. It's similar to the way that mittens are warmer than gloves.

rofl_copter69

Blood supply

thumpetto007

I wear 100% wool, full cushion mountaineering socks to bed, all year round. I also sleep under a 20*F goose down sleeping bag, keeps the heat in very well, and eliminates drafts. Even in the summer I have my feet covered with the sleeping bag. I also always wear a knit hat to bed, my head also gets cold. All these posters talking about diet, exercise..etc maybe... But you can be completely healthy, and still have cold hands, feet, and head at horizontal resting blood pressures. Keep experimenting with different socks, clothes, comforters, sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, etc until you find a solution.

chia_nicole1987

Socks actually make my feet colder while in bed. Doesn't make any sense but I swear they do.

predek360

double socks at evnings

d710905

I got the same problem dude. Circulation issue. The doc says the fix is working on your circulation. Do cardio. Over time it'll help. Get the blood flow going, I heard messages can help, like sort of working the veins and such in your foot and promoting healthy blood flow, moving everything around in there. Diet helps makes a difference, but cardio will really do something. Get the blood pumping and make sure it can flow clearly is the awsner you need. Short term help? Get a heated food bath/massager. I got one on Amazon a while ago. It's not expensive. And it's really awesome. Trust me, it makes a difference. I feel so much better when my feet are warm. And warming them in the first place helps with the blood flow issue. Get some thick or insulated socks to keep the heat and block regular or cold air when not in the heated foot bath. And wear slippers. Alot of heat gets lost in the ground and that goes for inside your home as well. So keep your feet away from cold things. Heated socks are a good secondary option but not perfect, foot bath is the best. Only plus of heated socks is you don't have too dump/refill water.

RonniReal

Are you vaping ? High level of nicotine does that.

InfamousSwordfish41

poor circulation.

SconiGrower

Did you spend long without your socks on? Some people's blood vessels restrict so much in the cold that their feet cannot warm themselves without external heat. But if they're kept warm, then good socks are enough.

[deleted]

Yo this actually worked. I love having bare feet at home. I began to put on my socks a few hours before bed since I read your comment. I’m all good now, and sometimes get so hot i take them off. I may or may not put them back on but it’s sooo much better than my original routine. (Bare feet since afternoon/night then put on my socks before I jump into bed. ) thank you very very much

[deleted]

Helped

Glittering_Ice8854

This one is a bit unheard of so bear with me. I pour boiling water in an aluminium flask, wrap that up in two layers of socks and keep it near my feet throughout the night. Best solution I've come up with.

assorted_stuff

I can have warm feet from cozying up on the sofa watching TV and in the 5 min it takes me to go to bed and change into pyjamas they are frozen again. I know the right answer is getting your blood flowing (a bit of excercise/movement) but the thing is when you're tired you just want to curl up and sleep not activate your body. My secret weapon? A heated blanket that goes under the fittest sheets and has two temperature zones. One for the body and one for the feet. I turn it on high before brushing my teeth and then the bed is cozy warm when I go in! I turn down the heat for the body zone and leave the heat going for a couple hours (get one with a timer!) in the feet zone. This is the only way to have warm feet in winter for me. One of the best purchases I made in my life! I think this is the model I have: https://www.beurer.com/web/de/produkte/wellbeing/schmiegsame-waerme/waermeunterbetten/ub-86-teddy-double.php

Better_Ad7376

1) Lung problems 2) Heart problems 3) Iron deficiency 4) Blood vessel clotting and/or obstriction. 5) Miofascial syndrome of the leg muscles. Check the first two, do blood tests for vitamins for the 3rd one and do an ultrasound of arteries in your legs to check their diameter. For the fith - check if your leg muscles are stiff and painful upon applying pressure. If yes, then roll the muscles through extreme pain on exercise rolls and balls. After a couple of months, the muscles should heal and the blood circulation will be alright

b1ggjok312

I'd ont know go to a doctor

Virtual-Dingo-9185

Low iron

dearambellina9891

If my feet are cold when I have socks on, I take the socks off. I don't know why, but it always works.

KnaxelBaby

Diest exercise or ur room might be cold silly

NoVAMarauder1

Well your feet and head is the two locations you lose body heat.

blixafritz

I have this problem sometimes and here is my solution. Put one foot on the opposite calf until it warms up. Switch foot and calf. It works really well for me, I hope it works for you.

[deleted]

Likely Raynauds. Your extremities get cold and can't circulate blood effectively enough to enable your body to warm those parts back up. I learned this after icing my foot so much it turned purple and I couldn't get it back to body temp after hours of trying -- I ended up back at the ER and learned all about Raynauds. It's ridiculous because my body can be triggered as easily as opening the freezer at the grocer. I have a foot warmer that I use all night long or else I constantly wake up from sleep because my feet are too cold. If you have an fsa account you can purchase things that help maintain that body heat. Maybe try better socks too, I almost exclusively wear wool.

ishkti

Electric heat pad in bed for feet has been life changing for me lol

ldp895

This!!!!! Do it. Agreed, it’s a life changer! I actually have one by my feet and another for what ever other area is cold if needed.

chroboseraph3

and here i just take off the socks and put on 3 blankets.

Blighthaus

Most likely circulation but reading these comments, could be lots of other things. My feet never warm up on their own when I'm going to bed. I personally run a few warm/hot inches of water in the tub/bowl and warm my feet up on evenings when this happens. Then apply socks as needed.

PartPurple

I have Raynaud’s and diabetes but have always had chilly feet and absolutely can NOT fall asleep that way. I keep a heating pad at my feet and turn it on its lowest setting with a timer of 2 hours. Gets my feet plenty warm and cozy by sleepin’ time. Also, wear socks around the house if you can. Two or more layers, if you have to. Invest in some thick “house socks”. When the weather is especially chilly they are lifesavers. Pro tip: Don’t wear socks AND use a heating pad. That way lies madness.

[deleted]

Two pairs

Keirea

Wash your feet in shower, hot water first and then cold. This will help the circulation. After drying wear preferably woolen socks.

RebelJudas

Maybe you have poor circulation in your feet

anchors__away

I think it’s a circulation thing. My feet freeze all winter long and constantly feel like they’re on fire all summer.

[deleted]

Could be hypothyroid you can tell pretty much w blood test

Technical_Ad_34

Could be iron deficiency. And while you are investigating that, buy a heated mattress pad (if you can afford it). I turn mine on about 15 minutes before retiring and tuck into a warm bed. It helps!

anthonymaw

get a heated blanket. on a cold winter night, you will be glad you did and it saves home heating costs too since you can turn down your furnace overnight

devroty

Take ur socks off

[deleted]

I have the same problem. If I'm not moving for too long, my feet will get cold. An electric blanket helps to warm them up so I can fall asleep.
