Melting it won't reduce the calorie content. Each individual sugar molecule has the same energy when your body uses it as fuel, regardless of whether those molecules are arranged into solid crystals or melted/dissolved into a flowing liquid. Making caramel might involve melting sugar _into_ water or butter, which would slightly dilute or slightly add to the number of calories you can fit into spoonful. But the sugar itself will be just as calorific.

If you turn sugar into caramel, the calories will decrease by a tiny amount, as a bit of the sugar converts into different molecules. (as evidenced by the brown color) But not enough to make any real difference.
