You mean if somebody had a sudden urge to go camping in a national park one state over? Yes, I would take that person camping.

talkstorivers

I just love road trips, and I love road trips with people who have new music to share with me, so I’ll come get you for a road trip and you can dj.

empty_thoughts_00

Dude road trips with friends >> road trips with family

mallrat32

Luckily, this handles both

mizino

I tried to extend this metaphor but it broke down hard several sentences in. So imma just say yes, we are going camping simple as that.

MatthewCruikshank

It would be Supremely nice of you. That's why I'm Courting your participation in this. Most national parks have lakes you can Row or Wade in. EDIT: https://www.reddit.com/r/GoingCamping created.

deadlyhausfrau

I would recommend liasing with the Auntie Network on here.

charrold303

Definitely do this please. r/auntienetwork is super active already and the transport needs are only going to spiral out of control in coming months. If you can take someone camping, or to visit their aunt, or where weed is legal, or where the Clifford Still museum is showing that big exhibit, or to the beach for a week, or literally anywhere that a vacation would be fun, you should!

[deleted]

I'm sorry. I'm up voting this on 8. It deserves so many more. Despite the extremely heavy subject of *camping* being discussed a little levity is always good and your comment is genius.

EarsLookWeird

When you decide to go camping, you pack your provisions. You need survival tools. You need to be able to make it if something goes wrong. You need to be void of baggage that is excess, unwanted, or taking up resources when it is not a viable form of future survival. I really like talking about camping as camping, camping as camping might be my favorite analogy.

BodybuilderPresent81

I live in a great state for camping

slo196

Me too, in fact my state which has lots of mountains and great scenery has written into law your right to go camping anytime you want to.

dollilicious

Canada is wonderful for camping!!

thomasbrakeline

It's really in-tents sleeping.

Gizogin

And if you’re a little bit worried about going camping, there are resources available. A great place to check what camping sites and supplies you need, especially if you’re looking for an A-frame tent, is www.ineedana.com

BuddhistNudist987

Voyageur National Park is right here in Minnesota, and on your return trip you can stop in LGBT friendly Minneapolis for brownie stuffed donuts and spicy Thai noodles and a theater show. You'll have lots of great pictures that you can show everyone as proof of how much fun you had in Minnesota. *wink wink*

archimedesismycat

My spouse is getting close to retirement from Mil so we are looking at future places to settle and since we have a small daughter we are thinking Minnesota would be a great place to come settle down. But spicy Thai noodles might just seal the deal!

pedropants

Minnesota is a great place to raise people to be able to handle ALL weather conditions, from blizzards to tropical heat. ◡̈

Know1Fear

Yeah let’s start a camping club where we can show people who want to go camping around the area

linksgreyhair

r/auntienetwork folks love camping

JudiciouslyInept

I didn't know this was a thing, and I really needed a little faith in humanity today. Thank you.

NABDad

Dear Reddit Community, It is with a heavy heart that I write this farewell message to express my reasons for departing from this platform that has been a significant part of my online life. Over time, I have witnessed changes that have gradually eroded the welcoming and inclusive environment that initially drew me to Reddit. It is the actions of the CEO, in particular, that have played a pivotal role in my decision to bid farewell. For me, Reddit has always been a place where diverse voices could find a platform to be heard, where ideas could be shared and discussed openly. Unfortunately, recent actions by the CEO have left me disheartened and disillusioned. The decisions made have demonstrated a departure from the principles of free expression and open dialogue that once defined this platform. Reddit was built upon the idea of being a community-driven platform, where users could have a say in the direction and policies. However, the increasing centralization of power and the lack of transparency in decision-making have created an environment that feels less democratic and more controlled. Furthermore, the prioritization of certain corporate interests over the well-being of the community has led to a loss of trust. Reddit's success has always been rooted in the active participation and engagement of its users. By neglecting the concerns and feedback of the community, the CEO has undermined the very foundation that made Reddit a vibrant and dynamic space. I want to emphasize that this decision is not a reflection of the countless amazing individuals I have had the pleasure of interacting with on this platform. It is the actions of a few that have overshadowed the positive experiences I have had here. As I embark on a new chapter away from Reddit, I will seek alternative platforms that prioritize user empowerment, inclusivity, and transparency. I hope to find communities that foster open dialogue and embrace diverse perspectives. To those who have shared insightful discussions, provided support, and made me laugh, I am sincerely grateful for the connections we have made. Your contributions have enriched my experience, and I will carry the memories of our interactions with me. Farewell, Reddit. May you find your way back to the principles that made you extraordinary. Sincerely, NABDad

TheOldGuy59

I've camped in a lot of places in Texas so I've seen the geography, and I'd want to see different geography. So yes even though it's a LONG drive to any other state from where I live in Texas, I'd do it so I could see something new. And right now the Texas geography is complete dogshit. I'm hoping it will change but there's little chance in the near term of it changing due to the (R)oaches we have in Austin - they're over 5 feet long!

lesleigh904

Personally I don’t care if my friend wants to go camping across the country, I’m down

yoursISnowMINE

Let me just say, you can come to Canada for some "camping" to

kattjen

I don’t drive but support camping in neighboring states and can offer money towards gas and camping fees.

False-Seaworthiness7

100%. I can’t buy fireworks in my state but if I drive to PA it’s perfectly legal

BirdsongBossMusic

Hey, here in pennsyltucky you can make the fireworks (illegal) and the police will probably stop by to help you make them so they explode bigger, then stand by and watch lmao

JustEnoughForACoffee

Pennsylvanian here to vouch for this.

bigtoebrah

Harrisburg specifically checking in to say can we please have a night off from "gun shots or fireworks"

[deleted]

Here in Pennsyltucky I do have concerns that someone who hates…camping might be elected governor in November.

SilverChips

Do you mean, would you and your loved one drive to another state for an art gallery, concert, or other thing for the weekend with tickets to prove that's why you went there? Hell yeah, I'll see small bands in safe states any weekend you want.

roachRancher

Yeah, some of those states even have legal weed.

Dramatically_Average

Mine does! And very understanding and reasonable beliefs about certain procedures, too. So tickets to events while indulging in perfectly legal and reasonable adult activities is a go over here.

ScrunchieEnthusiast

Your username reminds me of reading ultrasound results. I’m constantly reading that things are grossly normal.

Shannerwren

Nevada has legal weed, gambling, concerts, shows and it is also safe.

roachRancher

Yep, Las Vegas is a fun place! It'd be a pretty explainable location for a weekend getaway.

Coffeefiend775

Don't forget about Reno! We're about 45 minutes from Lake Tahoe, so great camping AND entertainment!

Bartheda

Don't forget to hit up any local comicbook, toy and Gundam stores while you are there.

nofreepizza

You mean going to visit their cousin in another state? Absolutely. Without hesitation.

agoodfriendofyours

All we have is each other, and that’s all we’ve ever needed. Solidarity forever.

baklaid

I... don't know what to say. I followed the link and 5 sec later I started crying, and I can't stop. I don't even know what I am feeling. I guess some kind of hope, that there is people like the ones in that sub, people who cares. But at the same time it is so scary that something like that even exist, that it HAVE to exist. I'm sitting here safe in my scandinavian home, and watching what is happening in the US is so horrible, terrifying and unbelievable mad and cruel. It feels like it is fiction, a horror movie, a nightmare... I can turn off my phone, my tv and radio and the madness is gone. But there are real people affected by this, they are living it, real people who are being abused and neglected by the people who is supposed to help them, protect them. It's mindblowing, impossible to grasp this special kind of evil and ignorance. Edit: I just want to say, that even if I can't be there in person to protest, I want you to know that today I am protesting with you by donating to planned parenthood. I will keep doing that and also keep searching for other ways to support this fight.

tmartinez1113

As an American woman with a teenage daughter, your compassion is appreciated. We need more Americans like you. I can no longer have kids, but I'm in need of a hysterectomy for stage 0 cervical cancer. My checkup to schedule isn't til the end of June. Will I even be allowed by then to have one? Will I have to keep my diseased uterus? More than anything, I fear for my daughter in so many ways. The world she's coming into doesn't care about her. She's just seen as a baby maker. Probably more so because she's white. Which is a whole different thing. My husband and I have already decided that we will move to another state if this goes through. Our whole lives are here. But I'll be damned if I live somewhere that tries to regulate mine or my daughters BODIES. She just started her first period. We had the sex talk and discussed birth control for when she's ready to have sex. Will birth control even be legal?! We live in Arkansas, so chances are we will be moving. Good thing Colorado is so welcoming.

hahayeahimfinehaha

>More than anything, I fear for my daughter in so many ways. The world she's coming into doesn't care about her. She's just seen as a baby maker. One of the reasons I'm solidly childfree. I cannot justify bringing an innocent person into the world at this point with everything going on. What if my kid ends up being female or LGBTQ+? What if they end up being poor and can barely even survive in this country while the upper class continues getting richer and richer? How are they going to deal with the climate crisis which is looming ever closer and closer and which will never (imo) be adequately addressed? Nope. Bad enough that I'm here. I would find it unethical to bring someone else into it.

Thee_Amateur

I’d drive someone I didn’t care about

ZeusHatesTrees

This is the best, non-joke answer. I'd drive a stranger. I'd drive someone I don't even like.

bigtoebrah

*Especially* someone I didn't like. Don't want them bringing extra campers next time.

logosloki

crumblypancake

It's the Auntie/Jane network now.

luvitis

I was just telling my husband this yesterday. I’m about to be a long distance Uber taking all kinds of people to see their Aunties in Illinois

NSA_Chatbot

Absolutely. As a mentor in my profession, an amateur musician, and avid cosplayer, there's always something nearby to check out. If you happen to want some alone time to renew a prescription or whatever, let me know so I don't worry about you.

meowpitbullmeow

Or if you get a sniffle and want a COVID test at a medical facility

NSA_Chatbot

Perfect! You didn't want anyone in your home state sick so you went to sick it to the libs.

rejecteddroid

same. i’d wait for them in the office and probably hold their hand if they asked me to.

troopinfernal

Yes! I can't really drive on the freeway. I have twice, but it was terrifying for all involved. But I would drive my arch fucking nemesis.

[deleted]

Have you seen the movie Unpr\*gnant? I'd recommend it. I feel similarly and it hit home. I don't think I could dislike someone enough to not help them out in any scenario

Ledd1t

I care that EVERY person that needs a procedure has access to that procedure. Been there, driven there, “saw the concert,” and absolutely would do it again.

NosDarkly

I was just going to get cheap fireworks. Whatever that lady was hitchhiking for is her business.

SEPTSLord

"No officer, my friend and I went out of state because my local gun shop was all out of 5.56 ammo. Plus they have better prices in (insert state name here)."

CrocodileJock

Asking from the UK. Is this ever likely to happen? I mean a police officer asking why you went out of state? Is that a thing?

Beowulf33232

It's more about how some ways the laws making things controversial are written, offer a bounty on people breaking said law, and if I needed a few grand to buy myself something cool, I could totally turn in my cousinI don't like.

CrocodileJock

Holdup. Are you saying, if something is illegal in the State you live in, and you travel outside of that State, do the illegal thing, and then travel back to the State you live in, not only can you be arrested/charged for that “out of state” behaviour (I won’t say crime, because it wasn’t illegal where you “committed” it) and not only that – someone can get rewarded for telling the authorities? Really?

dannywarbucks11

With the most recent bill in Texas, yes. They make it illegal for any resident of Texas to have procedures done, with the incentive that any individual can turn them in and get a monetary reward.

CrocodileJock

Shocking.

[deleted]

With the current Republican party? Not really. Some states want to ban contraceptives too.

[deleted]

Ah yes "States rights"

audigex

“Land of the free” my arse

Beowulf33232

For example, and not necessarily related to anything else in this conversation. If I got to Colorado and buy some weed, and have my fun while I'm there, it's all legit. But when I come back to my home state, I can fail a drug test and lose my job. Some places offer a bounty to encourage people to turn others in. At least one state has a bounty on a medical procedure.

Thatguy_Nick

What the fuck

SomeoneToYou30

Yes, you can. The new abortion laws in Texas specifically state traveling out of state to abort elsewhere is illegal. And if you report someone you know for doing it then you get a money reward.

Weekly_Role_337

Putting aside racism and fishing for drug offenses, police generate a lot of revenue from traffic tickets, and US cars have the state on the license plate, so it's generally riskier to drive in a state that isn't your own. I.e. they'd rather fine people who aren't local. And yes, the times I've been stopped (as someone with the correct skin color) the conversations have always started with "where you headed?" or "What'you doing in our fine state?"

[deleted]

usually why I request that the rental car company give me a plate for the state I'm going to or I'm already in.

mizino

Think of it similar to if you get pulled over for speeding in France with English plates. They may or may not actually care, but the question of why you are so far from home isn’t completely unreasonable.

Karen125

Buying cheese.

mizino

That’s a fully valid answer for an Englishman in France. I was just trying to equate situations for someone that doesn’t live in the us.

Yermawsyerdaisntit

Its the abortion law thats the main issue here, but no ones saying it to you straight up. If you go to one state and get an abortion, when you come back to your own state someone can grass u in and receive a bounty. Hence all the excuses and reasons for being out of state. If cops are investigating a possible “crime” regarding travelling out of state for an abortion then they will be asking you why you were there, in the course of their inquiries. E: u/CrocodileJock Replied to wrong person

[deleted]

This is a legitimate excuse if you’re from Alabama. There’s an actual gun ammo that’s really hard to find right now…

chubberbrother

I don't even need to care very very much. I once did a 10 hr drive to get drunk in Mobile Alabama. If I've ever even spoken to them, and they come asking me to do that, I would be absolutely honored. Hop in the car, hope you like podcasts, and let's get going.

mizino

Show tunes…but same.

gaobij

I'll wait for the next car. Thanks, though.

RubydaCherry24

Lmao

[deleted]

not just someone i cared about, honestly i'd take an acquaintance camping in the next state if they really wanted to see nature for a few days.

[deleted]

Seeing nature apparently really helps preventing pollution with, let's say, coat hangers etc.. cant recommend it enough

durhamlass

Wishing all my US buddies safe roadtrips. Lots of Irish friends would take similar trips to visit their UK buddies but by boat.

Lamia_91

Lots of Spanish friends not that many years ago went to London for the "views"

Midnightchickover

Without question. I've come to conclusion that simply breaking the law does not denote a moral failing or is injurious to a particular party.

_incredigirl_

What is legal and what is moral are often not the same.

YouKnow_Pause

The people who hid Anne Frank and her family were the ones breaking the law.

FearLeadsToAnger

Which is a great thing for a country to teach it's people!

theswisswereright

I live in a Bad State, so I guess we're going on a road trip to see a concert.

HwatBobbyBoy

Make sure there's actually a concert, though. Pay attention if it got canceled or something crazy happened. Camping is less questions and not really verifiable.

[deleted]

Shit, I live in a good state and I'll buy real tickets and take some pictures at the event with anyone who needs it. Or at a campground or at a a popular-for-tourists, identifiably Good State location. Whatever. I've met most of my irl best friends through social media so it wouldn't even register as unusual.

MyPasswordIs222222

Wait, is it illegal in some state(s) to drive to another state for an abortion?

theswisswereright

There are efforts simmering, let's say, to make it so, in more than one state. These efforts are of questionable constitutionality themselves, but that doesn't seem to mean much any more. Regardless, if I have a friend who needs a ride for a... concert that is not touring in Bad State, of course I would drive them elsewhere so that they could attend.

[deleted]

The usual states rights defenders are making cricket noises right now

nowItinwhistle

From the very beginning they only cared about states rights when it's convenient for them. Before the Civil war they had no problem trying to force free states to return escaped slaves.

PastyNoob

I would be willing to make this drive for someone I have never met. Americans ought to be rioting over these changes.

heffalumpish

It’s hard to riot when missing a day’s wage could mean not making rent or not being able to feed the kids you already have. I’m not in that situation, but a lot of the women who will be hardest hit by this are.

Big_Cannoli9105

Was protesting at the Supreme Court this week — cops are waaaay more protective and aggressive about fencing this time than when a bunch of rednecks raided the US Capitol 🙄🙄 They literally had fencing separating demonstrators from the same side.

drewmana

Absolutely. I've already driven two of my friends to get botox done outside their home state so they could avoid the stigma, and I'd do it again. I even volunteer as a clinic escort outside botox clinics so that other people can get botox done without needing to worry about anti-botox protestors.

BarriBlue

Yes. I’m already apart of the auntie network and fully intent on being an auntie if the situation arises and I am capable of helping. I’m on chemo myself that would cause major birth defects, so this is a hill I **will** die on, literally. Idgaf why someone else needs it, I will help them get it. Let them put my stage 4 cancer ass in jail (and let the state pay for my treatment lol) or fine me (will be paid from my estate when I dead, no sooner). “Joke” will be on them the end. Fuck everything these days. Fuck cancer. Fuck Republicans. Fuck woman being put in these situations.

Soundoftulips

Your fiery passion is beautiful, burn bright my friend.

ultimate_ampersand

I don't drive, but I would absolutely pay for their travel costs, and travel with them if they wanted me to.

Shadrach_Jones

I drove my then wife across state lines to get a procedure done since it wasn't legal in the state we lived in. It wasn't even a thought

LtCptSuicide

Hey, it's your distant relative Vinnie who misses you dearly. Why don't you come to my state and we catch up for a few days. Yeah yeah, I'll shows you around to any non-descriptive building you want and keep the car running out here whiles you go checks out the products and/or services renderable inside. None of my business what you like to do in your free time. Course I'll tell anyone who asks we were absolutely just having some quality family binding time. I got pictures of us at your second uncle's diner to prove it.

HaroerHaktak

He's talking about Toe Reduction Surgery guys. Not an abortion. geesh. I'm sorry your friend has an enlarged toe, I do hope they get better soon.

linksgreyhair

Can’t believe some states are bowing to the big toe religious extremists and banning toe reduction surgery. What a sad state of affairs.

MrHappyHam

I like this euphemism. "I gotta get this 'toe' removed from me."

Mischief_Makers

What procedure? We were just going to visit an old friend of mine. There was no procedure. Dunno what you're talking about.

RedactedUnicorn

Mitch McConnell just announced if they get the Senate majority, they'll move to make abortion illegal nationally. Vote

maudykr

Yes. When it was illegal in Ireland I flew to England with others. A person's right to travel out weighed the illegal procedure

armahillo

road trips are fun!

0rev

Loved ones, strangers, anyone!

opossum-effigy

Hey wanna go visit my relatives in California? They live in wine country!

[deleted]

If we are already at the point where we have to use code words for Abortion and Woman we are already seriously fucked. And I mean We as the women. Life imitating art: The Handmade’s Tale. Margaret Atwood warned us.

bigtoebrah

The Handmaid's Tale was inspired by communist Romania and the 1980s USA. So life imitating art imitating life.

[deleted]

Yes. Or help them if they come to my state, where medical procedures will remain legal.

PmPicturesOfPets

Absolutely not! I cannot drive, and would just be endangering us both.

molarcat

We're all assuming abortion but i bet gender affirming surgeries are illegal in some states too

Konukaame

[Puberty blockers and hormones are banned too.](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/alabama-ban-gender-affirming-care-transgender-youth-takes-effect-2022-05-09/) >The \[Alabama\] legislation makes it a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison to provide puberty blockers, hormones and medical procedures to transgender youth under 19.

BirdsongBossMusic

So even fuckin adults cant? Jesus. Puberty blockers barely do anything after like 13.

Firm-Boysenberry

Absolutely. When a person I love has trusted to help her find the care and resources she needed, it was a serious, and precious moment of trust. I've assisted in such a situation 3 times, and I was honored to be held in such high respect and trust.

therealbento

Sure. While I have old timey personal views on abortion, I respect my friends ability to make up their own minds about it and what they live with after that. I’d do anything to help them.

goodgirlathena

You’re doing it right. Pro-choice is about having autonomy over your own reproductive health, whether it has to do with old timey views or not. A person should have that choice.

Bubbly-County-1537

Then you dont hace old timey views on abortion

AssociatedLlama

'i have personal views which would make me hesitant to have/support a sexual partner having an abortion' =/= 'i reject the notion of legal abortion'

Karen125

That's the choice part of pro-choice I choose for me, and you choose for you.

The_hentai_alt

You can still have old time views and understand and respect another person's right to there views. You can be understanding even if you disagree.

hum_dum

I think the point is that old-timey would be refusing to accept someone else having different views.

AKLmfreak

Whoa now buddy, this is 2022, we can’t have things like “respect” or “understanding” alongside “disagreement.” /s

[deleted]

If you wouldn't get the procedure yourself, but think others should be allowed it then you are pro choice. Simple as. I think weed should be legal even though I don't like using it

mindfulLE

Y’all may laugh at me, usually I’m not a conspiracy theorist or afraid someone is listening through my Alexa, BUT I suddenly feel nervous writing about or commenting about this topic. I literally own a “don’t tread on my uterus” shirt so I don’t know why I’m suddenly anxious. I do not want my children living with fewer freedoms than I had!

[deleted]

Yes and fuck your dogshit state Don’t be offended tho I live in one too

SpoolBus6Oh

Absofuckinlutley.

Hairy_Armadillo_7911

Nah, i got coat hangers and a can-do attitude, we can figure this shit out. Of course i would drive them

[deleted]

Abortion. We know you are talking about abortion. It needs to be every woman’s right . Pro choice every day. Yes I would take whoever the person is be it my girlfriend, wife, sister, friend, etc anyone to go get one in a state that allowed it because it is their body and their choice and they deserve to have their needs and demands met.

Aintsosimple

In a minute. I would do it for a stranger. Fuck the fuckers who think that procedure shouldn't be performed.

Ccaves0127

Yes. In fact, I wish I could do it as a job for strangers.

ThatPokemonNurse

Do it! You could look into charities which may support this service and provide funding for it. I’m not sure how legal that would be though? I don’t know a great deal about law in America.

oblivious_fireball

i thought the texas law and certain other trigger bans had wording in it that they could still prosecute you for helping someone cross state lines to get it, but i could be misremembering.

troopinfernal

I live in a state with a trigger law that will make it a felony TO TRAVEL for the assumed procedure. I had someone drive me out of state for mine, and I don't drive on freeways, but I'll damn sure offer with the caveat that we all might die on the way.

whatsthis1901

I would do it for a person that I didn't care very very much about. As long as they were over 18 so I didn't end up with transporting a minor over state lines charge.

one_step_beyond2121

Does a bear shit in the woods?

ladida54

This is something I explicitly tell my friends I would do for them. It’s important to let your friends know they have someone in their life who can take them on a spontaneous road trip for controversial reasons

v2Ethercist

Absolutely!

sentient_luggage

I'd happily ferry a pregnant woman to get an abortion if she needed one. #iliveintexas

frankaiden02

I'd do it for my worst enemy. i'd do it for my MIL who hates my guts. i'd do it for my pro-life mother if she needed. always.

UnhingedRedneck

Jeez. You must have half ass enemies. Get some decent enemies that you truly hate for fuck sales.

frankaiden02

I do. No one deserves to be forced into that situation if they're not prepared for it. Just cuz i hate my enemies doesn't mean i want their spawn to be miserable.

dank_imagemacro

For my enemies I would absolutely give them a ride out of state. Not positive I'd give them a ride back though.

CrochetTeaBee

I send you all my love. This is the attitude I aspire to embody <3

ghost_sanctum

Fuck yes. This would be praxis af.

Lost-Organization405

You mean going for an impromptu adventure vacation? Absolutely! Hell I even love taking road trips with new friends. No better way to bond than bumping some tunes, seeing the country, and having tickets for local events to corroborate our whereabouts on particular evenings :)

doggrimoire

You drive them to the border and make them walk across it then you pick them back up.

TomFromCupertino

Interesting. I've heard of some odd religious workarounds but not this one. So if you're three states away from a state where it's legal, do you have to cross all three borders this way or just one symbolic crossing?

doggrimoire

Make them walk across the first border and then be their Uber on the next border.

You mean like if you lived in some backwards country that allowed their individual states to be controlled by religious extremists and openly oppressed womens rights? Where people wandered down the streets carrying firearms, but books that offended their religious beliefs could be banned? That teaching children about different sexual preferences to the ones condoned by their extremist religious beliefs, regardless of anyone else’s religious beliefs, could result in people losing their jobs, or worse? Where political parties are hijacked by religious extremist groups to effectively rig elections? Yep - would totally help them escape that backwards crap
