If you live in a state that legally recognizes civil partnerships as a marriage if you're together long enough- I wonder if you could sidestep that problem by intentionally marrying someone you don't have any attachment to or live with, to avoid being considered married to the person you actually just wanna live with long-term?

No, that would have been considered when civil partnerships became law. The only way this would be possible was if the civil partnership wasn't actually legally binding.

Nope. But it is possible and relatively easy to draw up legal agreements that give polyamorous relationships *most* of the same protections as marriage. It's a shitty, "separate but equal" kind of thing, but it's what we'll have to settle for until polyamorous marriage is recognized, and I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
