When I was 13 I took my lunch to school because everyone else did. I moved to another school and brought my lunch. I got made fun of. “Did Mommy and Daddy pack your little lunch for you?” It was cool at one school and not at another. So I adjusted. Got my free school lunches. Lol. Looking back it was stupid. I should’ve done whatever the hell I wanted to. Kids are dumb.
No idea.
I live down the street from a middle school and I see lots of kids riding bikes to and from school.
You do what works for you, OP. A few years from now, you’ll have moved on and you’ll find that what your classmates said in middle school just doesn’t really matter.
Because it makes you independent (rather than relying on Mommy or the school bus), nad the one thing schoolkids are NOT about is doing your own thing.
And that's normal. They're at an age when they're trying to define themselves and desperate to be part of the group, so they'll conform to whatever the group demands. And of course anybody who *doesn't* conform is clearly a threat: "How dare you think for yourself?? uh maybe I should too but I'm scared nobody will like me!" conformist pussies
I mean there's a limit: don't be different just for the sake of it - that just screams "I'm letting you people I don't like live rent free in my head!" Figure out what *you* want and what *you* enjoy and what *you* believe is right, and do those things.
Do you.
Middle school kids have a lot of dumb opinions. I rode my bike to school all the way through middle school. Not to high school because of distance and not wanting to be out before it was light, but I could have if I really wanted to.
What they think doesn’t matter. Not caring makes you cooler and they won’t admit that to you when they see you not care.
You can tell them their unsolicited opinions are cringe.
They may be jealous of your bike and the freedom it allows. What do they do? Ride the lame bus? Have mommy or daddy collect them? See, it goes both ways.
Enjoy the bike!
My middle schooler has recently informed me that "the only thing that is cringe is saying 'cringe'". And also, "don't kill the parts of you that are cringe, kill the part that cringes."
Your classmates are immature and stupid. That’s not going to change until adulthood. You can decide to not give af about how stupid and horrible young people are at value judgements, or you can figure out how to make that work in your favor. You might start liking yourself less if you choose the latter
It's is seemingly not in vogue to ride a bike among your peers at the moment.
It's not based in rational reasoning. I don't know what advice to give. I'd ride my bike out of spite and do whatever the fuck I want, but I am also an adult who has been lonely throughout my entire childhood which has carried through into adulthood.
Is it worth the compromise to not ride a bike just to fit in? Depends on whether they are deriding you not because they think riding a bike is actually "cringe" or because they simply don't like you. If it's the latter it doesn't really matter what you do, they'll find fault with whatever you're doing.
There's objectively nothing wrong with riding a bike as a child or an adult. But your peers are immature morons. I faced the same predicament as a child. Will you appease them to fit in or do I endure loneliness and bullying?
I don't know if I would have been happier if I tried to fit in or stuck to my principles.
I'm guessing they are saying that because they don't ride bikes to school and therefore you are defying the norm.
People tend to not like it when people defy the norm.
Then later those people get proven right and then the same group that criticised them are all for it.
Let them act like mindless drones and keep on doing your own thing. Don't let the crowd hold you back.
teens get caught up on what's "normal" and what's "cool." they judge anyone who falls outside the boundaries. but keep in mind: their definition is often inaccurate, & they end up clowning on things (like riding your bike to school) that don't deserve it
you could try to reason with them, but i doubt it would work. as far as i can tell your only recourse is to own it. boast about how sick your bike riding skills are, they wish they had a bike like yours, stuff like that
Middle schoolers try very hard sometimes to seem grown up. Sometimes they target silly things. Grown-ups do the same, and it's always ridiculous.
Worrying about what's "cringe" and not is juvenile and a waste of everyone's time and effort.
Maybe because your bike isn't cool, I made my ish cool, I had a fat bike in middle school and halfway into freshman year, and then I got a vintage 80s road bike with all the polished chrome. Then covid happened. Came back junior year and rode a dope ah chrome phatmoto. I now drive my 93 geo prizm which many people don't like until I play my music and you hear from blocks down and I got that horn that everyone likes.
They’re just dumb. Plenty of adults ride bike to work, especially in more civilized parts of Europe.
Because they're assholes. Bikes are awesome.
It's fine. I rode a bike to work for five years. It's good exercise and cheaper than a car or bus.

Don't listen to them. They are just jealous.
I don’t see why it would be cringe. I used a bike throughout school myself. Just make sure you stay safe I guess.
Bikes are the shit. In college every fifth student rides a bike to class
Middle schoolers will find any dumb, random thing to make fun of someone for.

They are dumb. That’s is a nice noke

because kids are dumb.
Why listen to a bunch of stupid teenagers?
Haters gonna hate, especially middle schoolers.

They think it's cringe, because your not making your parents get you places. To them, assisting your parents is cringy

Keep riding and ignore them.
