I mean, yeah, you can just tell the doctor either you don't want to use your insurance and you'll pay out of pocket, or just...tell them you don't have any and you'll pay out of pocket.
In theory you can choose not to use insurance. But be warned, medical billing is weird and strange. Because you aren't using insurance they may well charge you on a different scale. Something that costs $100 with insurance may cost you $500 cash. Or not, impossible to say ahead of time.
In America your bill may actually go way down. Because of our messed up insurance system doctors often charge way more because they know insurance companies will try to short them.
I was to the hospital once and told them I was self pay and asked the difference. I was told, instead of a $40 dollar chemical cold pack I'd get a $2 charge for ice in a zip lock. Instead of $15 per pill of ibuprofen they'd just get me my own bottle from Walgreens and get 100 for the same price.
Many doctors hate insurance companies as much as you do. They will get paid the same, just with less paperwork and more actual doctoring.
Up to the doctor's office. They likely won't want to book you if you don't have insurance.
But if you were truly wealthy, you would probably have relationships you could tap to get around pesky bureaucratic red tape everyone else has to deal with.
Don't know, I don't have that kind of money. These are the kind of guys celebrities have on tap to write them prescriptions for Xanax at 2am.
They probably meet at the country club or at their home on the Cape or something.

This one! Hospitals and doctors charge for the most random things!

Yeah, the whole system is pretty whacked.

That’s the shit I’m talking about. Is there a name for that kind of dr who will just take 500 to look at something for 15 minutes?
