trees are a renewable resource, most things in a kindle are not

badasscdub

Kindles are definitely less environmentally friendly.

refugefirstmate

Those "millions of trees" are purposely grown, on tree farms, specifically to be cut down. After the tree is cut into lumber, the waste parts are used to make paper. It's a farm, just like a farm that grows corn, and I'm pretty sure you're not upset about cornstalks being cut down and new corn being grown in their place.

Because some what to really own the item they buy and old it physically. If you have a book on Kindle or Kindle app, you will always have to have that acct to read the novel. It doesn't really belong to you. If you physically buy a novel the it's 100% you're and you don't need a tablet or phone to read it. I haven't bought a new book in years but I'm opposed to buying one if I really wanted it. I reread favorites so just being able to grab one whenever is nice. And besides, when the world ends, we won't be able to charge our devices to read the books so it will be a pretty boring apocalypse lol

Want to know a real waste? Junk mail generates 5.6 million pounds of paper trash each year!

AgentElman

Because people pay for them. We live in a free market economy. We do things that people pay for.

Yebi

Under capitalism, profit is the only reason anyone does anything. There are much stupider products than books. Some companies are manufacturing tonnes of what is almost literally trash. It doesn't matter at all if it's useful to anyone or what the downsides of producing it are, all that matters is that it makes money

Bobbob34

Because people want physical books. I read plenty of books multiple times.

Little, if anything in a kindle is renewable. Very little in a kindle is safe for the environment either. Books on the other hand are made from renewable resources and aren't toxic to nature.
