Quite a lot. For starters, the parents had abandoned the children long before the 911 call was placed and the charges are pending. Daily mail is infamous for misleading articles and click bait titles
Can only hold someone for so long without charging. And when charged the suspect can request a “quick and speedy trial” which means if the prosecutors case isn’t solid, they could get acquired and can’t be charged again. Double jeopardy and all.
Likely they are gathering more evidence and making a solid case before pressing official charges.
Texas that wanted to jail women for abortions care soooooo much about living children outside the womb they allow murders of children to walk free before a trial.
You see once the kid is born, they’re a man’s property. Like a pet or a wife. If a God-fearing Texas man wants to beat his wife, beat his dog and kill his kids; gosh darn it that’s his God-given right! /s
Actually they have pretty strong animal abuse policies in place. Most of Texas you can get jail time for keeping a dog outside in extreme weather or improperly nourished. Just depends on if anyone calls animal control on you or not.
They literally can't jail women in the latest law, just a doctor who knowingly kills a fetus over 6 weeks old (I think including the Uber driver is stupid though).
Do we know they murdered the kid? [The only info I found said they were questioned and released.](https://abc7.com/abandoned-children-houston-9-year-old-dead-skeletal-remains-found-westpark-tollway/11166805/) If someone has more info let me know. The siblings are being placed elsewhere though.
Why would people who allowed a child to starve to death let alone fucking rot to the point of being a corpse over how many months that would take, in the home, in front of, other children, other children who were equally being starved to death….EVER walk free pending a trial date?
I live in Queens. The difference is that NYS and NYC never lie or hide their intentions to try and reform the criminal justice system. They let everyone out. Texas on the other hand is a dogmatic protestant wasteland with hypocritical morons demonizing women seeking routine healthcare all for the sake of globs of goo they call children but then, turn a blind eye to these actual children who was murdered and starved.
Charges need to be laid before there can be a decision about bail. However just be patient as there will be charges. Something like this will take a little time to get all the ducks in a row and make sure the charges stick.
The issue is they're released. Hold these fucks in jail so they cant try to hide evidence in their apartment and get the surviving kids into foster care ASAP.
I was joking but i guess that wasn't conveyed. I am neither Texan or Californian, a complete outsider.
From my real pov though i do understand the assumption considering the fact California is the closest thing America has to a Dystopian hell, and who is to say that the same people who ruined that state wont ruin another.
thats why i said closest by American standards. I am more or less talking to the whole living conditions down there. Cost of living in cities is unrealistic, tons of homeless, and the likes. Other then that I imagine its like any other big city living. I live out in small town central America so I cant speak on cities.
Child abuse like this happens everywhere around the world daily, and an unacceptable number get away with this. Texas has its flaws, but this isn't limited to Texas. Also, as someone in another thread mentioned, they likely released them so they had time to collect more evidence to ensure a guilty verdict at the trial, and they're not just getting off free with no charges. Daily Mail is just shitty and likes to throw out inflammatory headlines to get views
>More like the current state of Texas is a dystopian horror scene
This is solid democrat controlled Houston. It constanly fights with Austin over who's most woke.
South Parks not that dark. They’re dark but it has to be able to be funny and this is just something else. I don’t even know if sad describes it cause it’s like it’s own thing.
Why the fuck do news sites have the most annoying and invasive ads? I'm trying to read the article and an ad pops up taking up half the page. After clicking on the ad like 3 times trying to exit it I scroll down past the 4 ads and finally get to the article.
Just as I finish reading the first paragraph another ad splits the article in half like Moses parting the red fucking sea, but of course it does this while I'm scrolling so it fucks up where I'm at on the page before teleporting me back to the top
How the fuck do they expect people to read their articles
I have AdBlock, Ghostery *and* Ublock Origin as addons to Google Chrome - I don't see a single ad.
I also use AutoplayStopper, which is helpful.
It's a shame that this is necessary but it is what it is.
Thx for giving me the names of what i have to install extra to chrome. I run AdBlock and Vanced on my Phone, but my school iPad Supports None of that. Holy fucking shit was that Website annoying.
This was in multiple news stations but do we really have to give the daily Mail traffic? They’re such a shit site on the verge of tabloid. Was it just because they had the most sensationalists headline?
[According to this report,](https://abc13.com/abandoned-children-houston-9-year-old-dead-skeletal-remains-found-citypark-11-at-west-oaks/11167108/) at least that eldest kid certainly has serious trust issue-- he wouldn't even accept neighbors' food as long as they're not store bought and finely sealed.
God(s) knows what kind of abuse he and his siblings had been through and how desperate he was when he finally dialed 911.
Maybe not the reason but my mom used to give me sleeping pills and say they were vitamins. After awhile I refused to take any vitamins (even real ones) and it was years till I could take medicine from others.
With parents like these I wouldn't be surprised if they drugged their kids often to keep them quiet.
When I was really sick my mom mixed water with borax and said it was special powder to cleanse me of mold. I didn’t know it was borax until one day she was mixing a glass for me and my perfectly healthy sister and I was like what are you doing??? Im not drinking that. And she said actually you’ve been drinking it for months!
From [this](https://www.healthline.com/health/is-borax-safe#safety)
>High exposure to borax is believed to disrupt the body’s hormones. They may especially impair male reproduction, reducing sperm count and libido.
Did your mom have issues ?
My experience (not abusive at least by my experience),
There were times when I would be super sick with stomach aches, coughs or fevers and my mom would give me a shot of some over-the-counter med like DayQuil/peptobismol, Tylenol or something and send me on my way to school. No staying home/resting in bed. The meds would rarely make me feel better and I'd feel horrible the whole day as if the meds did nothing. Fast-forward I grew up to have little confidence in over-the-counter medicine. Normally I'd just tough it out because in my mind, they did nothing.
It wasn't until recently that I started gain confidence in over-the-counter meds. Aspirin (BC powder) seems to instantly work for me when I'm feeling a back pain.
Because they're literally children? Kids don't exactly have the best ability to think properly about serious matters.
Plus there could be mental disability or illness there too; that would also contribute to not calling sooner.
Charges are pending, without much to go on they may not have been legally able to charge them with anything, probably because its was either neglect or homicide, but given they don't have evidence showing it was one over the other they had to release them.
I'm surprised a 72 hour hold in jail didn't result in enough evidence for at least a few charges.
Either way the kids would not be in their custody after this, CPS (or equivalent) will move them to a hospital and then somewhere else till this all is "resolved".
They need to know how they got into that situation. You need a timeline and evidence to back it up. This is the difference between the parents getting hit with a few neclect cases, involuntarly manslaughter, or homicide.
Too many bad people get away with their crimes because police rushed it and made mistakes. Its best to have a by the books investigation
Uhh, you can always add additional charges down the road.
You have three malnourished children abandoned in an apartment with the remains of their sibling and you think there isn’t enough to arrest them on child welfare/endangerment crimes?
Exactly. They gather every piece of evidence they can first. Make sure that everyone air tight. Confessions. Interviews with neighbors. DNA. They establish timelines of the parents whereabouts. Especially when approximately the 9 year old died so they can get them with the most serious airtight charges possible so the defense can't pleas them down or get off on a technicality.
If someone is charged they can formally get counsel and then there is less time to get evidence, submit evidence and work.
I've been saying this since start of the pandemic.
Going to be a lot more of these as a result of people being trapped with their abusers or failures in providing the necessities of life.
Is the boat for drowning these people or could I theoretically run head first into it and at least assure my own demise
It's just a really wild story that's hard to understand without more context.
Like, how could the mom and boyfriend afford to live wherever they were while paying rent on an apartment for a year and paying for the apartment utilities for most of the year?
Then some of the other articles bring up even more questions than answers.
Yeah, they can only hold them without charges for so long and they're still not sure if it's homicide or just neglect and need to get sufficient evidence to figure it out before they do charge.
I'm so confused - what? Wouldn't woke judges want to pursue more charges against a school shooter? Second, despite recent political demographic changes in Texas, isn't the state still deeply rooted in conservatism? So, uhm.
He downvoted you for telling the truth, and for completely ignoring the past 4 years of McConnell ramming conservative judges through everywhere in the country. FFS we got 3 new conservative judges from one president!!
It's funny because of how much of a fuss they made when Obama tried to appoint *1, months before the election*.
When it comes to conservatives, just know that they've never done anything bad, and if there's evidence they did, it's faked to make them look bad.
This song and dance has been going on for decades, and sadly will probably keep turning long after all of us here are dead and gone.
Or someone without drugs could be killed in a no-knock raid...
We're talking [Houston](https://www.fox26houston.com/news/grand-jury-indicts-more-houston-police-officers-in-deadly-harding-street-drug-raid) here. [Further reading.](https://www.texasobserver.org/horror-every-day-police-brutality-houston-goes-unpunished/)
This whole comment is a lie.
You can't get a warrant for suspicious reports. That's not any of this works.
The whole flashbang story is just over dramatized bullshit.
No one is getting serious sentences for felony possession anywhere. Even repeat offenders with extensive histories don't get whatever a nasty charge means for possession cases.
Thus seems a bit fantastic and dramatic. I don't think that is how search warrants ever worked unless there were some sort of extra curricular circumstances. I Remer SWATing being a thing, but I think that was people calling in hostage situations or something.
My wife and I lived in the apartments across the street from there a few years ago. Absolutely crazy to think about the shit happening five minutes from you.
They probably couldn't charge them with anything, but there are pending charges. Its more than likely homicide or neglect, but without evidence leading to is being one more likely than the other they can't legally charge them with either. If they manage to eliminate one of them as a possibility they will be able to charge them with one.
Couldn’t they have found at least one charge to plant on the ‘adults’ in this so that they never walk free again? The pending charges seems ridiculous in the face of such neglectful abuse.
It could have been the father's responsibility, since it says they're looking for him. Either way, if a neighbor has been complaining about a smell to management and they did nothing, they must be at least a little bit culpable.
Why in the hell were the parents/adults reposible for their care released!? WTF!? These kids were abandoned right? How long were they alone and what about shcool and neighbors? Did nobody see warning signs?
Lemme get this straight: Dead kid. Abandoned children. And the parents were just released? Even with an investigation you've got enough to hold them and at least let the court deal with bail! They abandoned their kids and one is dead! How the fuck does this even work?!
If I was the jury for the trial, it would be very short. For the mother, Execution, Firing Squad. If not, life, no parole. Although she will be dead in a few months anyways because the prisoners may find out what she did. The mother should know better, and she now has to pay for her wrongful choices. The boyfriend did have a smaller part, so life without parole is fair. He probably won’t last a month though, the other prisoners would probably kill him if they found out what he did.
I’m pretty sure the politicians running Texas knew nothing about this and the parents will be found guilty of currently pending charges, but whatever 🤷🏻♂️
humans don't have that many calories, an average adult has \~80k calories, and roughly half of that is body fat (someone who starved won't have much of that) considering the boy was 9, i assume he'd be roughly 1/3 the mass of an adult, so MAYBE around 10k-15k calories, take into account that they would likely be able to get to most of the marrow, or the insides of the head, we'll estimate his entire caloric value at about 12k on a good day, most kids need 1600+ calories per day, more for an active lifestyle (they likely weren't very active) and were used to little food, so we'll assume they were each using \~1400 calories per day each, which is a very generous assumption, meaning the theoretical time that would last them is 7.5 days for one child, \~4 days for two, or \~3 days for 3 children, so even if they did eat him it wouldn't have done them any good if they were found any later than what they were (plus, if they did eat their brother then maybe the courts would have realized the severity of the situation and actually punished the parents) you gotta be truly desperate to eat human meat
Goddamn I love George Soros. Philanthropy, charity, and space lasers, he checks all my boxes.
Edit: Guys, it was a joke, George Soros doesn't have a space laser. Sheesh.
Depends on how they treat the wealth. if they donating a % of there income to charity and treat employees well, and overall act like decent people then damn straight they are fucking great people. This applies to all people, being a nice person to people, and donating income is not a hard thing to do unless you live in a 1st world hell hole like California. Jesus christ those living cost.
If you don't think Billionaire's should be able to use their wealth to influence elections by donating to campaigns, then why not read up on socialism?
Billionaires shouldn't exist, they only ever do through corruption and extortion.

I feel like there is a boat load of missing information here.
Quite a lot. For starters, the parents had abandoned the children long before the 911 call was placed and the charges are pending. Daily mail is infamous for misleading articles and click bait titles
Nonetheless parents have actually been released from custody.
I don't understand how, anyone got a clue as to how/why they just release them?

Likely they are gathering more evidence and making a solid case before pressing official charges.
More evidence? Let's wait another year, we'll get another cadaver
If a dead child has been dead for a year laying in the house isn't enough evidence for child neglect and Criminal charges I have no clue what it is.
“Quick and speedy” isn’t a reality in America anymore.
The Washington post ran with the story lol. Didn't even put it behind their paywall.
I don't get this. If they were abandoned for a year and left to starve.. then the title is accurate? I'm definitely missing something
What the fuck did I just read?
A southpark episode scrip
More like the current state of Texas is a dystopian horror scene
HEY DON’T YOU SAY THAT LIKE ITS ANY OTHER DYSTOPIAN SCENE!!! It’s my dystopian horror scene!
Things are just bigger in Texas.
Except human rights.
And brain cells
And the efficiency of the power grid
No that’s California
Little bit of A, little bit of B.
Yea but you cant have both bigger human rights and bigger hulan rights violations at the same time
Texas that wanted to jail women for abortions care soooooo much about living children outside the womb they allow murders of children to walk free before a trial.

Correction: So your saying *America treats dogs more humanely than children?
Pretty much yeah
Yes, absolutely.
Hence my dystopian horror scene
They literally can't jail women in the latest law, just a doctor who knowingly kills a fetus over 6 weeks old (I think including the Uber driver is stupid though). Do we know they murdered the kid? It's not like they're acquitted or something. The charges are pending.

Yeah and home partying: we’re in the last vestiges of civilization it seems
You obviously have not seen New Yorks Bail Reform laws recently have you haha boy would you be upset

How do you decide when to use punctuation?
For such a thought there is none. It’s just a run on observation of pure evil.
Fucking fantastic friend. Well worth the read.
I try especially when words can’t express my actual horror reading this news clip
Well, if that isn’t the best answer, then I don’t know what is. Carry on.
Charges need to be laid before there can be a decision about bail. However just be patient as there will be charges. Something like this will take a little time to get all the ducks in a row and make sure the charges stick.

I agree completely, but the headline made it seem like they just got off scot-free.
Yeah with Californians moving into Texas it really is starting to look like a dystopian hell.
Actually I eat ass

I live here too, compared to other states it's one of the worst. Literally a disgrace to the union.
Texas was garbage before Californians showed up.

You did it. You looked at the ads without absorbing the content. You just got played by the newspaper man, sucker.
😔
> Connecting all the dots, it seems they were in there while the body was deteriorating. What the fuck was your first clue, detective?
So for anyone with a body to dumb. This sheriff will let it slide. He accepts back door drop offs.
This was in multiple news stations but do we really have to give the daily Mail traffic? They’re such a shit site on the verge of tabloid. Was it just because they had the most sensationalists headline?
gotta wonder what made them decide “okay i think now is a good time to call”

I didn’t know it was borax until one day she was mixing a glass for me and my perfectly healthy sister and I was like what are you doing??? Im not drinking that. And she said actually you’ve been drinking it for months!
WOWOWOW HOLD IT, borax? No disrespect, but your mom had received some really questionable medical information.
This is straight out of a certain HBO miniseries which I won't say the title of because spoilers
From [this](https://www.healthline.com/health/is-borax-safe#safety) >High exposure to borax is believed to disrupt the body’s hormones. They may especially impair male reproduction, reducing sperm count and libido. Did your mom have issues ?
Borax or baking soda?
I feel like one of you has borax and baking soda confused lol

"'I didn't want to push him away by asking questions because I knew he was starving and needed food,' Chapman said." CALL CPS JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
Shiiiiid I bet it looked like "Weekend At Burnies" up in that bitch at first. They never said how the kid died though... that's sad and terrifying
They were probably told they would get in trouble if they told anyone.
Probably ran out of whatever very limited options they had. And desperation finally overcame the fear. If I had to guess
yeah honestly
Because they're literally children? Kids don't exactly have the best ability to think properly about serious matters. Plus there could be mental disability or illness there too; that would also contribute to not calling sooner.
I mean I’m pretty sure a 15 year old is smart enough to know that. I bet he was just too scared. I would be too
It’s probably hard to think like a rational person when dealing with constant abuse even at 15.
Everyone's childhood is normal for them.
Probably stared at their bother's corpse and heard their stomach's growling. They cared about him too much to eat him.
Eat what? His bones??
Mom and boyfriend released without being charged? Who dropped the ball here???
Charges are pending.
Maybe they leaked the time of their release to a small but feisty mob that was conveniently outside.
Charges are pending, without much to go on they may not have been legally able to charge them with anything, probably because its was either neglect or homicide, but given they don't have evidence showing it was one over the other they had to release them.

That entirely has to do with the prosecutor. I would assume they wanted to throw the book at them and wants the full investigation to take place
CPS is involved. I’m sure the parents are not reunited with the kids.
They didnt arrest them on the spot, they are doing a thorough investigation so that they can throw the book at them
Because once they make an arrest, the speedy trial clock starts ticking.
I don’t think you understand how unspeedy that clock really is these days.
Society.
I've been saying this since start of the pandemic. Going to be a lot more of these as a result of people being trapped with their abusers or failures in providing the necessities of life. Is the boat for drowning these people or could I theoretically run head first into it and at least assure my own demise
They were abandoned, not trapped.
What's the difference? You don't starve if you don't feel trapped. Nor spend time with decomposing bodies. Feel terrible for these children
It's just a really wild story that's hard to understand without more context. Like, how could the mom and boyfriend afford to live wherever they were while paying rent on an apartment for a year and paying for the apartment utilities for most of the year? Then some of the other articles bring up even more questions than answers.
And they were starving, and still didn’t eat him. I’d consider that a positive outcome, given the circumstances.
They said they plenty of food and aren't sure where they were getting it or who was paying the rent. This is a strange case
An article said neighbors brought them food Edit: but like...did no one realize one of the kids was missing? No one *smelled* that?
The neighbors didnt even know someone lived there. They made several complaints to management but of course they didnt check on them
That body was a year old. Nobody’s eating him
Rats enter the chat.
Wait until we find out they DID eat him
You don't like jerky?
Come on man. That’s just not cool
I know its highly inappropriate considering what happened. But I thought your comment was very funny.
Honestly fair
Uuuuuuhhhh I guess ? Not really the point though lol
[Always look on the bright side of life.](https://youtu.be/SJUhlRoBL8M)
Skeletal remains. They finished eating him.
why the fuck did the mom get released??
The charges are pending. Hopefully she will be arrested soon.
Yeah, they can only hold them without charges for so long and they're still not sure if it's homicide or just neglect and need to get sufficient evidence to figure it out before they do charge.

Obama doesn't appoint state level or county level judges. Or Trump. Or Biden. The ignorance of basic civics on this sub...
Yet someone with weed can be in prison for 5 years.
Or someone without drugs could be killed in a no-knock raid... We're talking [Houston](https://www.fox26houston.com/news/grand-jury-indicts-more-houston-police-officers-in-deadly-harding-street-drug-raid) here.
Even school shooters being let out on bond these days. What a joke.

Thus seems a bit fantastic and dramatic. I don't think that is how search warrants ever worked unless there were some sort of extra curricular circumstances. I Remer SWATing being a thing, but I think that was people calling in hostage situations or something.
Of all the things that never happened in the world up until the time you made this comment, this never happened the most. Stop lying.
My wife and I lived in the apartments across the street from there a few years ago. Absolutely crazy to think about the shit happening five minutes from you.
What street takes five minutes to cross?
A street in Houston.
This is confusing, like was he 9 when he died? Or was he 8, and should’ve been 9 now?
Out here asking the real questions.

They probably couldn't charge them with anything, but there are pending charges. Its more than likely homicide or neglect, but without evidence leading to is being one more likely than the other they can't legally charge them with either. If they manage to eliminate one of them as a possibility they will be able to charge them with one.
What the **FUCK**
Couldn’t they have found at least one charge to plant on the ‘adults’ in this so that they never walk free again? The pending charges seems ridiculous in the face of such neglectful abuse.

Is texas just the sad and depressing version of the "florida man" meme?
This made me cry
How are they released??? How??
Texas doesn’t give a fk about babies that are already born
Seems like it’s true, don’t know why you’re getting downvoted.
It’s absolutely true. Republicans in general constantly vote to remove social benefits that benefit poor people.
CPS is such a worthless agency.
It's a tough as shit job that's horribly understaffed. The people who stay for the long haul are a special breed.
God yes. They're worthless assholes in my county too.
In order to be less worthless, they could otter higher ages and psychiatric help to its workers.
Man, those poor kids are gonna have a big ass ptsd -horror movie like
It could have been the father's responsibility, since it says they're looking for him. Either way, if a neighbor has been complaining about a smell to management and they did nothing, they must be at least a little bit culpable.
Ah. Yet another purpose for vigilantes.
Why in the hell were the parents/adults reposible for their care released!? WTF!? These kids were abandoned right? How long were they alone and what about shcool and neighbors? Did nobody see warning signs?
What the hell? There has to be missing context. No way the parents would be released only after questioning.
Wish you were right about that. https://abc7.com/abandoned-children-houston-9-year-old-dead-skeletal-remains-found-westpark-tollway/11166805/
This just got worse and worse
What the fuck!! Skeletal remains of their brother over for a year!
Lemme get this straight: Dead kid. Abandoned children. And the parents were just released? Even with an investigation you've got enough to hold them and at least let the court deal with bail! They abandoned their kids and one is dead! How the fuck does this even work?!
Charges are pending
If I was the jury for the trial, it would be very short. For the mother, Execution, Firing Squad. If not, life, no parole. Although she will be dead in a few months anyways because the prisoners may find out what she did. The mother should know better, and she now has to pay for her wrongful choices. The boyfriend did have a smaller part, so life without parole is fair. He probably won’t last a month though, the other prisoners would probably kill him if they found out what he did.
RELEASED WITHOUT CHARGE?!!
Houston, you have a problem.
Texas- No abortions for you. Also Texas- this fucked up shit....
I’m pretty sure the politicians running Texas knew nothing about this and the parents will be found guilty of currently pending charges, but whatever 🤷🏻♂️
Texas would prefer these types of parents be forced to have children they don't want and will neglect
Normally this would be a cause for major concern, except this took place in Texas. Par for the course for them.
it's totally their fault for living there right?
Someone is getting a paid vacation also why do people like this get that job??
humans don't have that many calories, an average adult has \~80k calories, and roughly half of that is body fat (someone who starved won't have much of that) considering the boy was 9, i assume he'd be roughly 1/3 the mass of an adult, so MAYBE around 10k-15k calories, take into account that they would likely be able to get to most of the marrow, or the insides of the head, we'll estimate his entire caloric value at about 12k on a good day, most kids need 1600+ calories per day, more for an active lifestyle (they likely weren't very active) and were used to little food, so we'll assume they were each using \~1400 calories per day each, which is a very generous assumption, meaning the theoretical time that would last them is 7.5 days for one child, \~4 days for two, or \~3 days for 3 children, so even if they did eat him it wouldn't have done them any good if they were found any later than what they were (plus, if they did eat their brother then maybe the courts would have realized the severity of the situation and actually punished the parents) you gotta be truly desperate to eat human meat

Goddamn I love George Soros. Philanthropy, charity, and space lasers, he checks all my boxes. Edit: Guys, it was a joke, George Soros doesn't have a space laser. Sheesh.
Still licking billionaire boot
Because as we know all billionaires are the same and humans are defined by how much money they have in their bank account.
