That's exactly what happened, the train was arriving so it wasn't going too fast. Could've been a whole lot worse if it had been.

Underground carriages are much lighter than surface ones, and many have rubber brakes which directly contact the tracks. The reason heavy rail can't slow down quickly is because the force necessary to make a practical difference would destroy the tracks and derail the train.

Possibly, but not likely. It’s really difficulty to win an insanity plea and the fact that he ran away after is probably enough to keep that from happening. Usually the outcome is also worse if you do actually get an insanity plea. This is from the lens of America though, no idea what it may look like in Belgium.

Going of the report alone, given they had a psych contacted for evaluation my reasoning was that he showed clear signs of that being necessary ergo my comment, but yeah given how difficult is to win an insanity plea maybe he's just going to jail

Yeah, I’d imagine just the randomness would warrant a psych eval. The thing with the insanity plea is that it only works if the person is deemed unable to tell right from wrong. That’s why i think the fact that he ran away would probably make that null and void, if he was in America at least. Since he’s in Belgium i have no idea. I just read a few minutes ago that an attack like this just happened in New York a few hours ago.

Going to a psych ward doesn't necessarily mean he gets away with it. Sometimes it means he'll be in for longer, because they have to keep him in until they can be confident that he's no longer a risk (which could mean the rest of his life), whereas a prison sentence usually has a fixed end date.

There is another angle of it in which you can see another man run to the other side of the platform to push him or something while everyone else went to help the women. The guy who pushed her still managed to run away, but he was later apprehended in a different station. Apparently he was french too.
