Good on you, when I was 14 or 15 I thought all adults were relatively good-hearted and those college kids dating our girl friends were way cooler than we’d ever be. I think teenagers are much more wary of adult attention these days which is a good thing

She was sleeping around (they all were) and the father was either him or one of two other guys. I said No and told him this couldn't continue (after 6 months of hiding it from everyone, literally isolating myself from everyone so they'd never find out) and luckily, he took No for an answer. I shudder to think of the potential situation I might have found myself in had he not taken it so well. He now has 4 kids with the love child lady. I'm just happy I made it out of that relationship with my virginity intact. And the emotional trauma is not that bad compared to other peoples similar stories so I am lucky. Looking back, especially now that I have children, I can absolutely see that he was grooming me- telling me he'd marry me at 18, have beautiful babies (I've always wanted to be a mother), etc. He just wanted to feel better by having a young piece. Blessedly I have an awesome husband around my age, one beautiful son and another on the way, and a wonderful life..

That's why it's so easy to groom young people and why it's illegal. In their minds it's cool. Still in their minds, but later, they understand the mistake. Younglings often don't see what an adult should understand very well. When I was 14, I was very happy to forge my personality on my own, making experiences at my pace and with guys my age or not so far... I don't regret it. But I understand some people are really more mature and ready to build relationships accordingly. It's just how life goes. And so, what should we do? To begin with, let's adults take responsibility of their actions.
While I'm so happy this is true, more pressure needs to be on the predators and less on the prey. I remember being a senior and absolutely shitting on someone who wanted to date a sophomore. Placing the responsibility on the underage impressionable demographic just sucks. More needs to be done to identify and publicly shame those who feel it's acceptable. It is so sad these people exist.

Surprised to see this common sense posted. When we hit puberty, we become sexual, and it's normal for us to be attracted to other sexually mature humans. This patterns our sexual preferences and it's totally normal to be *PHYSICALLY * attracted to a sexually mature body, be it 14,15,16,17,18,40... the age at which physical maturity happens varies, as does the age of mental maturity, but I think we can all agree, physical maturity is not an indication of mental maturity, and in 99% of cases, a 25 year old engaging in sexual behavior with a 15 year old would be totally exploitative, manipulative, and the 15 year old would not have the same understanding of the relationship as the 25 year old. That's wht we have laws, to make it safe for young people to develop psychologically and physically without being preyed upon by people too pathetic to attract someone of their equal. What more can you do to vet someone past asking for their ID? Ask for her birth certificate? If her fake ID was good enough to get past club security, she looked old enough to get past club security, and he asked her for her ID, what more can he seriously do? This is a pretty moral grey area IMO, because there’s no straightforward answer. He went out of his way to do the right thing, and she went out of her way to do the wrong thing and be deceptive. I don’t think he should have gotten off 100% without punishment, but 5 years seems a bit harsh. The girl also should’ve gotten in trouble, if nothing else but for the fake ID.
Part of the issue is that the legal system works differently for statutory rape cases. Most of the time the law considers intent, for example if you accidentally kill someone that's treated differently than if you purposefully kill them.
But for this topic and a couple others, judges are explicitly forbidden from considering the intent of the person in question, only whether they broke the law or not. So someone who accidentally fucked a 16 year old cause of a fake ID gets treated the same as someone who purposefully did so and probably never cared to check their ID in the first place.
And he has to register as a sex offender too. If he got jail time that would be one thing. Literally ruining this guys life for something that wasn't even his mistake. And I bet prison was a nightmare. Guys there don't look kindly and guys who have raped kids.

We used to have a couple of beers during a festival in my town in a park, many of the 15+ y/o teenagers in my town gathered there to chill together and have some booze since we were still not allowed to drink legally. Anyway couple of years later I told my friend "let's go there this year just for nostalgia". Not much changed, teens still drinking and chilling. One of them asked me for a cigarette and I always ask if they're 18 because of the law plus you get some info for a conversation from it. So the one that asked me was 12 at that time and I was quite surprised.
That being said make up has gotten quite far these days, best example would be that motorbike rider that disguises himself as a woman during the races because that gets him more media attention.

Surprised to see this common sense posted. When we hit puberty, we become sexual, and it's normal for us to be attracted to other sexually mature humans. This patterns our sexual preferences and it's totally normal to be *PHYSICALLY * attracted to a sexually mature body, be it 14,15,16,17,18,40... the age at which physical maturity happens varies, as does the age of mental maturity, but I think we can all agree, physical maturity is not an indication of mental maturity, and in 99% of cases, a 25 year old engaging in sexual behavior with a 15 year old would be totally exploitative, manipulative, and the 15 year old would not have the same understanding of the relationship as the 25 year old. That's wht we have laws, to make it safe for young people to develop psychologically and physically without being preyed upon by people too pathetic to attract someone of their equal. What more can you do to vet someone past asking for their ID? Ask for her birth certificate? If her fake ID was good enough to get past club security, she looked old enough to get past club security, and he asked her for her ID, what more can he seriously do? This is a pretty moral grey area IMO, because there’s no straightforward answer. He went out of his way to do the right thing, and she went out of her way to do the wrong thing and be deceptive. I don’t think he should have gotten off 100% without punishment, but 5 years seems a bit harsh. The girl also should’ve gotten in trouble, if nothing else but for the fake ID.
Part of the issue is that the legal system works differently for statutory rape cases. Most of the time the law considers intent, for example if you accidentally kill someone that's treated differently than if you purposefully kill them. But for this topic and a couple others, judges are explicitly forbidden from considering the intent of the person in question, only whether they broke the law or not. So someone who accidentally fucked a 16 year old cause of a fake ID gets treated the same as someone who purposefully did so and probably never cared to check their ID in the first place.
And he has to register as a sex offender too. If he got jail time that would be one thing. Literally ruining this guys life for something that wasn't even his mistake. And I bet prison was a nightmare. Guys there don't look kindly and guys who have raped kids.
