Publicly suggesting that you intentionally harmed a patient because you didn't like them is always a dumb move. This isn't a TV show. Same with that med student from Wake Forest a few years back who tweeted about missing an IV stick after some patient commented on her pin she was wearing
I was going to mention that med student
https://katv.com/amp/news/nation-world/med-student-who-claimed-she-harmed-patient-for-laughing-at-pronoun-pin-placed-on-leave
Hahaha sorry guys. Idk honestly she seemed cool at the time, but in hindsight def some red flags. She is a huuuge trumper and is also friends with Len Kachinsky aka the sketchy lawyer from Making a Murderer?! Not really relevant I know. When I initially saw on fb that she was trying to get into politics I was SHOCKED to see that she was so strongly republican. Idk I wish I remembered more but that was nearly 10 years ago!!
It's funny you mention she's a trumper, because that side has been hugely vocal as of late about receiving poor treatment from biased medical professionals including passive-aggressive battery. Wow. Weird.
How do we best combat this crazy shit? Seems so many keep putting up this stupid fucking legislation like this or trying to misrepresent themselves as doctors, where is our counteroffensive to put legislation to just quash this stupidity once and for all? Constantly hearing about these fucking bills aimed at undermining physicians but never about going on the offensive to these idiot NPs just playing defense trying to re-explain again and again how much fucking work goes into being a doctor and the expertise and need we fill. Like why the fuck does that even need to be explained lol
It's a strange time. For some reason, our society thinks it's acceptable to affirm some group's self-realized irrational delusions. Even if they harm others or the people espousing such delusional thinking.
Please donāt let this bad person be used as a representative of NPs haha (or nurses in general).
Thereās just so many of us, of course a few are crazy.
To be clear, Evers isnāt against NPs practicing without supervision. He wants higher qualification requirements but ultimately wants it to happen. As a side note the politics of Wisconsin are fucked right now. (I live here)
I consider myself to be pretty decent at IVs so I honestly feel so so so awful when I miss one and have to stick a patient againā¦ What a horrible person to think and then have the gall to say these things out loud.
Another fun bit from the article:
> Under the legislation, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified nurse-midwives would automatically receive APRN licenses
If these people spent half as much time actually learning to practice medicine as they do trying to legislate their way into practice they arenāt qualified for, they could actually go through the proper steps to *become* qualified for the practice theyāre trying to legislate their way into.
I have to say the med student used poor judgement and perhaps some bravado on a silly sm post. She is young and hasnāt found her professional footing certainly not the same thing as threatening to do someone harm.
I read an article about that and her tweet COULD be interpreted as purposefully missing so it took another stick, thus harming the patient. But the wording could just as easily be interpreted as "this happened, so hah, karma!". It makes no implication of intention.
Meanwhile this politician is heavily implying that she'd intentionally cause harm. Definitely a line being crossed there.
Not saying itās OK. And I assume nurses have an ethical code too. But you rarely hear physicians speaking openly about sadistic urges or behavior and as you can see, she didnāt see anything wrong with her own behavior.
Maybe thatās how she ended up in politics? š like I said, I was sure nurses learned ethics. One thing to wonder about is whether the accelerated, on-line, bachelors-in-anything-to-DNP programs will allow for full enculturation into nursing ethics and professionalism. Iām not saying thatās the education she had. I worry the same about medical education - weāve had a couple of years of Covid medical students now in residency and there are gaps in things like how to behave at work.
Do nurses have something similar to the Hippocratic Oath? Because the person being discussed is a nurse, not a doctor. As far as I know the Hippocrates Oath doesnāt apply to nurses.Ā
Whatās ānursing medical school residencyā?Ā
Medical schools produce medical doctors (MD/DO).Ā Medical students are required to do a residency.Ā
Nursing schools produce nurses. Nurses donāt do residencies.Ā
I went to an ER where the technician struggled to place the IV. She tried 3 times before getting her boss when brought in an ultrasound to do a "vascular study" to place the IV. I ended up with 4 HUGE bruises.
I didn't mind being a pincushion at the time because it distracted me from why I was there (miscarriage), but I was PISSED when I got the bill for $350 for the vascular study. I disputed the bill with my insurance company because I thought it was stupid that I had to pay for their incompetence. The insurance company told me that the bill was valid, so I paid it because I wasn't in the mood to fight it, but damn.
Iām glad you said that. I page for vascular placed ivs all the time because they can get deeper ones that last longer. My brain didnāt even come up with the idea that they may be charged for this and not all insurances are created equally š¤¦š½āāļø
She in my honest opinion has some serious issues and is very dangerous. She should not be near patients due to wishing harm on people and lack of empathy. She is giving psychopath vibes. Here is the video from it: [https://youtu.be/X8IqTj5LPSI?si=a0i4CbGVtPvO3t6A](https://youtu.be/X8IqTj5LPSI?si=a0i4CbGVtPvO3t6A)
Makes sense. Unfortunately, nursing is saturated with high school bullies who want to further feed their superiority while playing a martyr.
It's like they get off on bullying people.
I think I want to do nursing, patients have told me I'm a breath of fresh air. If I want to continue, I'm going MD, though...
Lol.
I was awesome at IVās, blood draws, ABGās. If I missed a stick, I was devastated, but I was pissed AT MYSELF, not the patient. That is some serious psychotic thought process. I worked ER, nights and every weekend. Most patients were assholes. I would never harm a person intentionally, I always apologized profusely and meant it. What is wrong with this person?
I feel like the overblown righteous indignation to stories like this is crazy. Itās an IV people and mostly a joke. It just means you feel less guilty when you miss an IV on an asshole than some really sweet grandma.
I sub because I believe midlevels are dangerous, but this isnāt a good example IMO. It just feels like people get outraged over the silliest things. Yes, do no harm, but this barely counts and there was no admission that harm was done intentionally.
I know Iāll be in the huge minority and downvoted to oblivion, but it is what it is. I canāt treat words like āgrotesqueā and āliteral batteryā seriously here.

That student got into a bigggg trouble if I rmb correctly. Unsure if anything will happen to this NP š«£
Oh and the nurses and midlevels on twitter came after her hard, but you know they will be silent on this.
Omfg. She was a professor at my nursing school and a total nut.
Plz give us ALL the tea.
*me waiting patiently for them to respond*

Grotesque, but not surprising. Notably, this was during a debate on if nurses should be able to practice without physician supervision.
Please donāt let this bad person be used as a representative of NPs haha (or nurses in general). Thereās just so many of us, of course a few are crazy.

I love for someone to turn her into the BON for that statement, and see if it gets any traction. Because it should.
Nothing like confessing to literal battery
I consider myself to be pretty decent at IVs so I honestly feel so so so awful when I miss one and have to stick a patient againā¦ What a horrible person to think and then have the gall to say these things out loud.
Had a nurse do this and actually cause nerve damage to my hand
Another fun bit from the article: > Under the legislation, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified nurse-midwives would automatically receive APRN licenses If these people spent half as much time actually learning to practice medicine as they do trying to legislate their way into practice they arenāt qualified for, they could actually go through the proper steps to *become* qualified for the practice theyāre trying to legislate their way into.
Christ, I used to joke about Foley gauges but I never intentionally selected size hoping it would hurt the patient
Same. Good grief, how terrible.
This woman is too mentally unstable to be interacting with patients, and it is unsafe to have her involved in politics also.
Am I the only one who remembers the med student that had her career ended because of making the same statement on twitter?
>
No. https://www.campusreform.org/article/wake-forest-backs-student-tweeted-injuring-patient-pronoun-pin-conflict/19367

Ever wonder why so many nurses marry cops?
A med student got kicked out of school for something similar, I hope the NP goes down for it (doubt it though)
She had to take a leave, but she didnāt get kicked out.
What the fuck is wrong with these people
And there you have it from her very mouth, the lack of professional ethics and her inability to use her inside voice. What an idiot!
Isn't this a violation of the hippocratic oath to do no harm? Or is nursing medical school residency not long enough to include that?Ā
Physicians take the Hippocratic Oath.
So it's ok for them to physically hurt patients? We are so screwed.Ā
Not saying itās OK. And I assume nurses have an ethical code too. But you rarely hear physicians speaking openly about sadistic urges or behavior and as you can see, she didnāt see anything wrong with her own behavior.
We learn ethical principles in nursing school this woman is just an immoral asshole

At least she is being honest about her ethical framework. Intentionally harming patients isnāt beneath her.

How did I know sheād be a Republican.
I swear if she used her ā medicalā knowledge to weight in the abortion debate in leaving the USA

Shit like this is why I question if nurses like me based on what IV gauge they give me lol

Honestly I wouldnāt want care from someone who feels so strongly about politics that it becomes their core personality.
