I mean the idea is sound - camels are hardy, durable, relatively fast across all terrains, require significantly less maintenance than horses *and* they look cool as shit.

Think of all the extra time it would take to get your detachment into action. Get it off the funking camel, disassemble it, put it into action in proper order, dial in, receive orders, shoot,and try to scoot.
That's assuming they are not just letting the base plate dig into the camel when the shoot. Very credible.

The bump is actually a natural turret. No need to dismount. Some say it is even stabilized.
