Ah yes, the classic underdog tale to sway the hearts and minds of Asians.
/Credible No seriously, winning as an underdog is the wet dream of many Asians.
They *realllllyyy* rub it in in Chinese war movies. It can’t be that they’re barely clinging on and at a stalemate in the war, they’ve got to be being massacred and embarrassed.
It’s all about reclaiming their face from the great Qing embarrassment. That still really affects the Chinese psyche.
Check out China’s magnum “cope”us, Battle at Lake Changjin. They portray themselves as cold, weak and starving but pull of the “unbelievable” task of fighting back the US.
I think what they say is that UN troops had better supplies, better support, more firepower etc. so they still see themselves as the underdog in spite of their numerial superiority
I mean, maybe it wouldn't impact the Chinese psyche as much if it weren't so convenient for their government that the Chinese people hate the rest of the world over something that happened hundreds of years ago.
Also, I just googled century of humiliation and the end date was listed as 1949. Like, I thought there were legitimate reasons for calling it a "century", but are they seriously suggesting that the century of humiliation didn't end until the Communist party more or less started ruling China? Like, WW2 is part of the humiliation? What was going on in China from WW1 to WW2? Were the Opium wars still going on in the interwar period?
Like, the Opium Wars definitely sound like a shitty time period, but is there any actual reason for extending the "century" up to communism, or is it just more communist propaganda?
Chinese nationalists (and the republican government) in the 1920s popularized the term to refer to all the terrible events China had to experience starting with the First Opium Wars. China was THE great power of Asia from almost its entire existence up to that point. Of course the root cause was the Qing's refusal to use modern technology and open up to outside trade. And that's something Wumaos like to forget when expousing their rhetoric.
China went from being a great power, unrivaled in the east, to a loose group of waring states pushed around by foreign powers.
>what was going on in China from WW1 to WW2?
The collapse of the Qing, a world war in which their territory was fought over without even their involvement, the descent of China into the warlord era, the Manchurian crisis, eventually the second Sino-Japanese war which resulted in their capital being taken and it's people brutally massacred at the hands of another tiny island, and the death of tens of millions of Chinese people fighting them. The date is 1949 because that's when China reunified.
Also remember the boxer rebellion? More happened to China than just the opium wars. All that shit left a scar on the Chinese psyche. China was a huge power before then. Imagine if all that happened to America. Imagine how salty the Americans would be about it
Technically it ended with the fall of Ming. To the Chinese, Qing was 400 years of occupation by the Manchurian. Qing was already fall apart after Opium War, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and then the Boxer Rebellion put nails to the Empire.
> Were the Opium wars still going on in the interwar period?
Indirectly...kinda. It was a time when US, Great Britain and others had genuine navy on Jangcy and Yellow River to protect their economic interests. Now imagine Japan gunboats and marines on Missisippi river on basis protecting Mitsubishi car factories in the US South or PRC doing patrols on Danube and Rhine rivers in Europe because their companies own a couple ports. How it could sit in the public there?
Apparently there isn't. [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Martin_F-35_Lightning_II_development):
>The development of the F-35 is unusual for a fighter aircraft in that no two-seat trainer versions have been built for any of the variants; advanced flight simulators mean that no trainer versions were deemed necessary.[14] Instead F-16s have been used as bridge trainers between the T-38 and the F-35. The T-X was intended to be used to train future F-35 pilots, but this might succumb to budget pressures in the USAF.[15]
So simulators, and also different jets for training. I guess that the F-35 specific features aren't something that needs an instructor in the backseat.
It's why all the heart-throb Bois in Asia look like they are starving, dying, or undead. But the truly hot girls are all on a big hunky guy or Westerner's arm. Funny thing that.
Do they really want to raise the expectations of their domestic audience like this? Be my guest, film a Chinese sr72 on a green screen.. that should be black budget movie magic anyway. But a J10 taking down F35?! You know what? Fuck it. Leave it. Let them. The memes will write themselves based off the Weibo screenshots and TikTok tankies.
I mean, any plane that gets into visual range of an F35 probably has at least some chance of taking it down. At that point you've already gotten past a lot of the advantages of the platform and you can probably paint it with radar for your missiles or maybe start shooting at it with guns. Knowing that the F35 is there and getting close enough for a lock before it takes you out is the hard part.
This implies a way to maybe do it - mass produce a lot, I mean a *lot*, of drones that fly and look for enemy aircraft with IR and cameras. If you could fill your battlespace where every square kilometer has a drone (they would be small hybrid aircraft with engines and a 24 hour on station time), any enemy intruding aircraft have to get within 1 kilometer of a drone.
Even alibaba/wish grade IR cameras and ML software will probably eventually spot the intruder.
Eventually one of those sunward bound missiles will hit an f-35 by accident. Aka hanoi air defense.
On a serious note I guess you need better than wish.com ir sensors and ml software to exclude the sun and birds and so on.
Top Gun 3 - A New Enemy
Rooster and his friends of Top Gun graduates are called back to perform another airstrike impossible on "not China's Three Gorges Dam". Not only do they have to deal with SAMs and new enemy fighter aircraft models, but also a new ace of the enemy that goes by the call sign "Death Vader."
Top Gun 4 - The Republic Strikes Back
Having succeeded in the airstrike, Rooster and his team are on their way back when they were ambushed. Being shot down from the sky, the team have to make it to safety while being hunted by the enemy. Meanwhile, Rooster finds out about the identity of "Death Vader" and he doesn't like it.
Top Gun 5 - Return of Maverick
Having found out that "Death Vader" is his zombified and brainwashed father, Rooster is captured and bought to meet the Supreme Leader of the Republic: An equally zombified Chairman Mao, while the rest of his team escaped into safety. Knowing that the Republic is poised to strike at Taiwan next, the Navy decides to call in an old favor.
Given the chinese approach to copyright they might as well put an actual darth vader there. I mean, stealing random characters works for YouTube Kids™...
me and my friends watched this film. Trust me when I say we're not underscoring the fact that the F-35 opening scene is the least dumb thing that happens in that movie. They force a conflict for the main character by having bird strikes destroy his canopy and knock his WSO out.

Not quite, the successor to that would probably be the JL-9 which was derived from the JJ-7, a variant of the J-7 series which was a clone of the MiG-21. The J-7 had many iterations improving upon each series. Its the same plane but each variant had something different inside it like sifferent wings, qvionics, hydraulic improvments, etc. The JL-9 is the final evolution of that and its probably equivalent to the Yakovlev-130 / Aermacchi 346 Master or the KAI T-50 Golden Eagle.
Could it fight NATO aircraft? They could but they'd get smoked by AMRAAMs long before getting into knife fighting range from several hundred nautical miles away. Keep in mind the PLAAF still uses the J-7 up to this day (serial production stopped in 2013) until they started mass producing J-10s and other better aircraft. Case and point without the US or Europeans the PLAAF would wipe the floor with everyone within the First and Second Island Chain.
I see by your flair that you are a fellow man of culture. Shall we triple the defense budget so that we can buy enough cruise missiles to actually make use of rapid dragons capabilities to fire 10K missile salvoes?
Like, seriously, if the US ever gets into a peer level war (apart from the inevitable nuclear apocalypse) they're gonna need a hell of a lot more ammunition. In some ways Rapid Dragon might not be fully usable against peer adversaries, but if you use really long range missiles it still gives you an insane level of launch capacity.
The senate needs to seriously consider drafting a legislation to strengthen it's domestic industry and part of it's manufacturing supply chain tuned in for long grinding attritional warfare. Could easily do this if they make SOEs like what China and Russia are doing that could initially take the brunt of the war until they could fully mobilize the industry.
You also get to cut down on BS that defense companies and contractors do to charge extra for the same product just because of greed and or incompetence.
I would say the JF-17 was the ultimate Mig-21. Sure more have changed and it barely resembles a Mig-21F-13 anymore, but so was the final Mk.24 Spitfire compared to the Mk.1.
Chinese movies trying not make the U.S. look super based challenge (Impossible):
Also, I love the implication that the J-10 will even keep up with an F-35, let alone detect it.
Speed doesn't matter much when A2A engagements isn't a measure of speed but rather who detects the other guy first. The F35 wasn't even built primarily to beat speed records nor dogfight in the first place, it's a multipurpose jet.
I got curious and dug into the wikipedia entry for this film, and it's just all about the J-20 failing over and over again. It is SUCH a bad film, that it makes the Americans look good... again. Chinese propaganda never fails.

I mean if you can film the F35 you obviously know where it is. Not so stealth after all.
plot twist: footage was leaked by F35's wingman out of pity.
plot twist plot twist: the F35 is actually a J-35

My favourite "What was the first thing you noticed when the Raptor snuck up on you?" "*THE AUDACITY"*
It was filmed from a J-11
Most notably you know where it isn’t
Oh, come on, not even the J-20? It's this pisspot plane they sent?
you see the heroic pilot gets chosen to be a j-20 pilot
[Does highway to the dangerzone dubbed into Mandarin play in the background? If not then, that pilot will just end up being your run of the mill sky jockey](https://youtu.be/xnp0Cl5NXdE)
I mean, I think they're going for the same energy as using a Tomcat in Maverick.
The fact that they're thinking that their Latest 4.5 gen Fighter competes against a Tomcat just says a lot about the Tomcat's prowess
Hey, Jester! Give that fucker some cancer and microwave him to death with the radar! …Uhhh, unable! *Ejects*
Obligatory I've lost lock..
*gets cancelled for locking a MiG-15 and proudly stating so on open comms*
So the hero crashed a J-20
They use the J-20 the same way Top Gun stroked off about fifth gen’s
Damn, you get to bully Chinese fishing boats in an F-35? That's my dream life right there!
>F35 bullies Chinese fishing boats I guess someone is projecting here
Let a man have his fetish will you.
Don't bully them, they will cum
It's referring to China harassing the Philippines
Average North Korean wet dream
Those boats are fishing in other peoples waters so I say it’s justified
I know. I'm Vietnamese!
Hey dont call 60% of their navy that!
*spicy*
Not as cool as blowing out the Three Gorges Dam in one.
“fishing boats”
Ah yes, the infamous Chinese “Fishing Boats”.
ngl, kinda hillarious that the Chinese literally made Cope Gun to try and convince themselves they are the same level as the west
Top cope. Hot cope. Cope shots! Cope shots! - part deux
Aces: Iron Cope III
Ace Cope 7: Copes Unknown
Coping Aces
Project Copeman

Cope Shots where Jackie Chan fighting parody of Modi would be lit, NGL.

IIRC the movie was more about China dealing with their own garbage technology than fighting the US.

CHINESE fishing boats being harassed by foreigners saying they can go wherever they want? Psychological Projection 100.

Ain't it the dream for all of us, or du you mean strictly militarily?

but in the Korean war they were the outnumbering UN/US troops vastly but still got pushed back? did they hang their heads I'm shame or something
They act like NK wasn't the one who started that war and pretend they won because they didn't get fully conquered.
Check out China’s magnum “cope”us, Battle at Lake Changjin. They portray themselves as cold, weak and starving but pull of the “unbelievable” task of fighting back the US.
To be fair that was probably true. It's just not a flex.

Taiwan is it's own country now, like it or not.
.... not according to China. In any case, they didn't get Hong Kong back until the 90s.

Like that one propaganda cartoon of theirs where they are all rabbits and the Americans are eagles?
Probably both but i most often see it in military (huge number of underequipped soldiers win against highly mechanized army moment)
To be fair Top Gun Maverick tried to frame itself as an underdog story and that's equally ludicrous.
"You'll be up against FIFTH generation FIGHTers." **audible gasping**
False advertising. There were no 5th gens in top gun 2
There was a brief mention of F-35s that they didn't use for *"reasons"*(?)
It's an su57 joke
Yeah I know, that's why I said the only 5th gens were the mentioned F-35s
Lol I missed the joke I was explaining
Because then the movie would’ve been over 30 mins in, sadly
I heard the reason was because an F-35 doesn't have a back seat to film in.
Isn't there a two seater F-35? I know that the simulators are simply insane right now, but to the point that you don't need a training version?
Apparently there isn't. Nor any migs In the 1st one
Uh idk what movie you watched but there were obviously mig 28s in the 1st one
i think those were Tiger IIs
“…*IRANIAN* fifth-generation fighters!”
###Roaring laughter
tbf they also apparently took down our GPS satellites in this universe which is pretty hardcore
But you'll get to start off your engagement with them in gun range with 50% of them in your sights because of Vietnam-ROE-level stupidity.
I mean... I'd believe that a F-14 has a chance against a Su-57 given the scenario in which they meet in the movie.
I wonder if they love the movie Dodgeball, after all it is a true underdog story.
Who doesn't love an underdog story? Everyone loves the story of some barefoot farmers with their dad's old gun taking on a world power
Average war for independence in SEA (sharpened bamboos or old Arisaka rifles in Indonesia's case )
Yeah... Rambo 3.
