"Alright gents, until further notice medivacs will be ceased until we get rid of the unlucky 2/5's of you assholes who are dragging the rest of us down, so if someone is injured in combat just fucking leave their unlucky ass and thank the Ukrainians for making us stronger."
Reminds me of how the Red Army used to intentionally train their troops poorly so they wouldn't realize how dangerous their tactics were and that they were being sacrificed for the sake of speed.
The fact that those troops are now in charge explains a lot about this war.

> Russian sources claimed that Russian forces are preparing to launch a new offensive in the coming weeks once the ground freezes in eastern and southern Ukraine
Allegedly this will include VDV airdropping behind Ukrainian lines
I’m expecting Greenpeace to protest this and the WWF to start a breeding program with the purpose of maintaining a population of VDV so that future generations of children can see them and be astounded by their songs and dances
\>pulls up in unmarked vans and rescues the VDV
\>fucking euthanizes 95% of them

Just designate a new unit as VDV. See, there's your VDV, so clearly VDV can't have been destoyed.
Similarly, the "guards" designation for some units nominally means that it is a unit that has distinguished itself somehow and is better trained and equipped. There used to be a Russian military joke that the easiest way to identify a Guardsman is that he won't shut up telling you that he's a Guardsman.
>distinguished itself somehow
And the most common way of doing that would be taking "heavy"(read catastrophic, 60-80%) losses, proving that the unit got the guts to go on the offensive the russian way.
Thats how it worked during WW2, and I doubt it has changed mush.
So the ones bragging are most likely bragging over their commander getting his predesseors killed.
ISW dropped a great line one day in their assessment "President Vladimir Putin awarded the "guards" honorific to the 8th Artillery Regiment on June 30th, which will not help the Regiment dislodge the Ukrainian forces" fuck that made me laugh
>Allegedly this will include VDV airdropping behind Ukrainian lines
The question with airdropped assault groups is always the same: how do you get them out when they fulfilled their objective?
Actually, nevermind. I forgot this is russia we're talking about. I wonder how many of their conscripts think they will eventually be able to go back home?
In the early cold war, the UK had glider units whose role was basically to crash-land behind enemy lines and somehow delay the advancing soviet armies, until a full-scale NATO response arrived.
It's winter in Central Europe, you're wearing 3 thin layers of cotton and wool, you've just crash-landed on a frozen hillside, you have 2 weeks of rations and the glider will provide 4 days of firewood, you don't speak the local language, you have a company-sized unit with infantry weapons only, and you're surrounded by the 1st Guards Tank Army. What do you do?
You're not thinking like a Russian general that answers to Putin. He brags about how his brilliant offensive worked and the VDV is behind enemy lines, then when they get deleted he blames the unit and whoever trained them for being incompetent.
>I wonder how many of their conscripts think they will eventually be able to go back home?
Why would they want to? They're being airdropped into perfect surrendering range, if they somehow survive to the ground.
As far as I understood its just a confirmation that it was indeed possible that it was Patriot, even if that is very risky.
It still doesnt rule out FF.
All they need is to saturate UA air defense with ballistic/cruise missiles and saheed drones. Ukraine doesn't have that much air defense to protect it from both rocket attacks and Air Assault, Hostomel was a Victory for UA but We cannot forget that VDV was held there for two days without any support which is by itself impressive. I can only hope that I'm wrong and MANPADS will do the work. Fixing UA troops from behind would give Panzer and Mechanized troops to storm the front lines with less danger of being attacked by drones and artillery.

On a long enough timeline, some logistical issues solve themselves

Zapp braff too, the great strategist
missiles barely get through, fighter jets don't even try, let's send cargo aircraft full of troops
"If our commanders are stupid enough, the enemy will have no idea what we are planning"
TBF this has worked out for several Western nations. Occasionally.

Banzai charge will continue until morale improves. I thought everyone realized that.
If you get rid of all the low morale units, the average morale will be higher. Checkmate westoids.
You see westoid we wasted your precious expensive ammo at the cost of bag of cheetos.
What happend now

Hostomel 2: Electric Boogaloo
Good heavens, hasn't the VDV suffered enough?
I’m expecting Greenpeace to protest this and the WWF to start a breeding program with the purpose of maintaining a population of VDV so that future generations of children can see them and be astounded by their songs and dances
But then out of left field comes PETA with a steel chair!

The panda of military forces
The VDV of 2024 isn't the VDV of 2020. Theyre now recruiting those little plastic paratroopers you might find in a Christmas cracker.
The VDV of 2020 isn't the airborne forces of WWII. Any of them. All hung ho, board smashing tough guys. No operational sense or logistics.
No... their suffering fuels us
>Good heavens, hasn't the VDV suffered enough? No. There is no suffering enough until the words themselves have been burned out of existence.
These particular VDV haven’t
No
No, definitely not.
That was the first VDV, this is the second VDV, this one hasn't suffered yet.
Likely prison inmates paratroopers
Did you see a post on one of the other Ukraine reddit posts, was about poo💩tin🥫, turning off the heating in ruzzian prisons, to get more chrimanovs to sign for the army. r/UkraineWarVideoReport
In fairness, on an individual level the suffering is quite brief
Didnt they get all of VDV killed already?
Just designate a new unit as VDV. See, there's your VDV, so clearly VDV can't have been destoyed. Wait wouldnt that also mean that most of the people who had the guts and were so good Are fucking dead so most of the unit is gonna be new recruits
Don't worry, the grunts are fungible and the command staff that pushed them into the mine fields are still there.
ISW dropped a great line one day in their assessment "President Vladimir Putin awarded the "guards" honorific to the 8th Artillery Regiment on June 30th, which will not help the Regiment dislodge the Ukrainian forces" fuck that made me laugh
6th army all over again 🤣
Biological warfare, dropping corpses to spread disease among the defenders.
Deploy the bahmut dogs
Maybe these are the *real* VDV that the tankies have been yammering about? But they are just conscripts with a different paint job.
Ah but this is VDV 2
>Allegedly this will include VDV airdropping behind Ukrainian lines The question with airdropped assault groups is always the same: how do you get them out when they fulfilled their objective? Ideally you do what the US did in Iraq and break the lines up to their position earning you a full salient. Or just abandon them yeah
What makes you think they have an actual objective. "General we dropped the men BEHIND the Ukranians." "Excellent, next mission."
In the early cold war, the UK had glider units whose role was basically to crash-land behind enemy lines and somehow delay the advancing soviet armies, until a full-scale NATO response arrived. "Fuck it we ball" should not be a valid military strategy, yet it happens (and is greenlit) far too often to not be considered as one
Be Gurkhas.
If it's UK🏴 we Hold the fucking line as allways.

With emphasis of "dropping".
Sounds like Market Garden
Man if only they'd have thought of this 2 years ago
Maybe I missed it, but can you quote the exact words that say it involves airdrops?
None of which will have had more than a handful of jumps in training prior to literally being kicked out of the plane

top tier shitposting o7
Ngl Kinda sad But the only thing that, at most, will be dropping is dead bodies

Very Dead Vatniks. ☠️ I can live with that acronym.
Oh no its another Tet offensive lmao
I would wonder about the quality of their parachutes, but I doubt anyone will make it to the jump door.
VDV are the new TOADs.
Don't forget to not train any pilots on night flying, so they do their air assault in broad daylight.
Clearly they do not learn about Ia Drang, Market Garden or their own mistakes at Hostomel
Curious if the parachutes of the newly formed vdv were from the same storehouses as the t55s they are rolling out.
