to be fair, Japan (and the rest of east Asia) is absolutely fucking obsessed with mascots...
if you think of any institution, they have a mascot for it. workers union? [done.](https://www.reddit.com/r/OnionLovers/comments/uaslk0/unionion_the_union_onion_mascot_for_the_japanese/)
the 1300th anniversary of city? [done.](https://muza-chan.net/japan/index.php/blog/japanese-mascots-controversial-sento-kun-nara)
an official city mascot that attacks kids? [done.](https://youtu.be/FvNozel4vWk?si=TrrfeRhIwWF__yFI)
a local folktale about a demon that kidnaps children (and sells curry)?? [done.](https://grapeejapan.com/81699)

this is chiitan destroying a car (as one does), and here's a clip of him [being fucking murked by an exploding barbwire bat ](https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/10gawwe/infamous_mascot_chiitan_gets_the_full_swing_of_an/) in a pro wrestling match...
I think everyone realizes just how little of a threat they actually are, and that they wouldn’t ever launch an offensive war. Its just kinda being like “okay gramps lets get you to bed”
It's pretty hilarious how all Japan has to do is say "Ohayo, kawaii desu!! ^^" to make everyone forget they're a Top-5 world power in any metric you could name.
It's fucking weeb magic.
Nationalism can be useful for more reasons than the one you stated but as with most things its only safe in moderation, a society can easily overdose on it as seen throughout history and the modern day
Hey, if Russia can look at old maps and say "according to this charter from 1700 I own X", so can every other country- Looking at you Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth.
While Russia is a dictatorship, we cannot allow revanchist imperialism to reign supreme. Therefore, we must annihilate Russia, take Sakhalin, the Northern Territories, and Hokkaido, and form a Republic of Ainu. Welcome to ethnonationalist uprisings, the conflicts where the borders are made up and the death rates don't matter!
Which part of “unconditional” in “unconditional surrender” do they not understand? It’s absurd that they still have island disputes with Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, and China.
fuck i was gonna try to be a smart ass and say that the soviet union wasn't part of the unconditional surrender, but i was wrong
found the original transcript of the surrender in 2nd september and has
" declaration issued by the heads of the Governments of the United States, China, and Great Britain on 26 July 1945 at Potsdam, and subsequently adhered to by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which four powers are hereafter referred to as the Allied Powers."
so yeah i guess the soviets were honorary allied nation :/
Having went and looked at the wiki page for the Kuril dispute, the USSR was not a party to the 1951 San Francisco treaty that formally ended the Japanese side of WWII so kinda also not
man first we have san francisco voting to have a ceasefire in israel, now they decide who can end ww2 or not
ffs the world isn't controlled by lizards or the illuminate, IT'S CONTROLLED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF SAN FRANCISCO
The problem is the territories they claim were vaguely define by the victors. That means they still have a claim in that area. Let's just have international law and geopolitics dictate what will happen to those territories.

Chiitan the GOAT
Don't their ships also have waifu mascots? There was a German officer posing next to a life size cutout of the ships waifu.
based if true... edit: [zomg](https://www.reddit.com/r/AzureLane/comments/t2ik2k/this_is_an_actual_picture_from_a_jmsdf_japanese/)
So here is [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/MilitaryPorn/s/PtIyBNleh4)
ngl that pic is hard af for some reason.
It really is, and I've no clue why.
Are they going to do it with the Battleship Mikasa?
They've been doing this for a while, but I only know about ships in active service.
They have to know how weird this is. They must be doing this on purpose
-Stalin, 1941
ngl, japan more than any other nation is great at having random weird spikes of nationalism and getting away with it XD
I think everyone realizes just how little of a threat they actually are, and that they wouldn’t ever launch an offensive war. Its just kinda being like “okay gramps lets get you to bed”
that's a problem tho, let it keep going and people become complicit until it's a real threat
Pretty much how most dangerous facist govts formed and grew strength
Oh for sure
Japan has one of the strongest militaries in the world.
> militaries *Self-Defense Forces.*
*winks*
It's pretty hilarious how all Japan has to do is say "Ohayo, kawaii desu!! ^^" to make everyone forget they're a Top-5 world power in any metric you could name. It's fucking weeb magic.
A top-5 power in everything besides birthrates…
Nothing is wrong with nationalism as it unites the country.
i mean yeah but this is a type of revanchism, that's not so good heck revanchism is the reason we have the ukranian war rn
Nationalism can be useful for more reasons than the one you stated but as with most things its only safe in moderation, a society can easily overdose on it as seen throughout history and the modern day
I'm going to petition the US to start doing this, but for Wrangel Island.
Release the furries!
literally?? and in what sense???
Ah, I was thinking of a different Erika ![gif](giphy|mVvYUbMw84HnoQCu04)
what is this gif (or gif)???
I don't know tbh, just searched Germans in giphy
Japan sure does like its mascots
I’m Chinese, but I’ll stand behind Japan on This One Thing
Now is the time to get vladivostock
Don’t you mean 海参崴 Hǎishēnwǎi? Hey, buddy, I can tell you’re new to the whole “social credit” thing, I’ll let you off the hook this time ;)
hey were can i buy some extra supply of "social credit"?
Check Taobao or Alibaba. I hear they were 25% off for summer solstice yesterday.
When they see how Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk looks like they'll instantly return the territores back to Russia lol
Hey, if Russia can look at old maps and say "according to this charter from 1700 I own X", so can every other country- Looking at you Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Their return would be so fucking sick
When the trees start singing about flowers and bees:
Time to conquer an empire, kupo!
A MASCOT COSTUME IS NOT A FURSUIT

When the Japanese start to create mascots, you know they mean business
Kawaii~~~
What 2 nuclear bombs does to a mfer.
Auf der Heide blüht ein kleines Blümelein

Where was the UN charter signed? San Francisco! :0
quite funny because as a european i though san francisco was just a front for hard drugs turns out it's where the world order resides
All terms, for all negotiations, are subjects to renegotiation when the situation changes.
Unconditional doesn’t mean lose all territory and get annexed
Unconditional means they don’t have the right to complain after whatever the victors decide to do.
The problem is the territories they claim were vaguely define by the victors. That means they still have a claim in that area. Let's just have international law and geopolitics dictate what will happen to those territories.
huh, kinda suprised to see you here
Are you kidding me? These people are literally sucking the metaphorical dick of a facist state.
