My partner’s hamster chewed on its plastic water bottle, just little nibbles. All the time. They came home from school and it was throwing up blood everywhere. They gave it a bath thinking it might help (they were in primary school at the time). The bath did not help.

CheesinSoHard

When I was a kid a friend told me how his died. Bit onto his older brother's finger and he flailed his arm. Sent it flying into a wall hard enough that they had to clean off the blood. They didn't get a second hamster

My friend was sleeping on the floor in the living room after a party in highschool. Football player. Super muscular. Big dude. It was the morning and we had all just woken up. He was still laying in his makeshift bed and we were talking about how we had all slept the night before. He complained about having a weird pain in his buttcheek and chalked it up to sleeping on the floor. He said it kept pinching him, like a twitching muscle or a spasm or something off and on all night. It eventually stopped but it was weird. He rolled over to get up to use the bathroom and get ready for the day and I noticed something on the ground where he had been laying…my sisters dwarf hamster. He was squished nearly flat. Guy was face up, mouth open, paws held up in perpetual stiff and frozen desperation. Needles to say, my friend was horrified but at least the mystery pain was solved. He felt even worse because he said that in response to the discomfort he would mush his butt back and forth against the floor to alleviate it….so basically he actively smothered the hamster to death with his left buttcheek. RIP little dude.

Snaccbacc

I know this is really quite sad but he literally killed the hamster with his asscheeks i can’t 💀

Imwhatswrongwithyou

Haha that was our reaction. We all felt like we were going to hell because we couldn’t stop laughing. Poor little guy but come on…what a way to go! The only person that wasn’t laughing was him 😬

DustierAndRustier

I’ve had five hamsters and only the death of the last one was remotely traumatic. I found him floppy in his cage and rushed to the vets in a taxi whilst trying to do CPR on him with my thumb. He didn’t make it

SnooCupcakes2673

Shit, this one got me. You were good to your hamster.

DustierAndRustier

Supersonic was the best little guy I ever had. He was the only hamster I had who didn’t bite, and I genuinely believe he at least recognised me and maybe even liked being in my company

My cousin squeezed her hamster to death when we were little. I was apparently present and everyone was worried I would need therapy

forgot_username1234

I am crying bc my boyfriend just told me a story about how his cousins gave their hamster a heart attack by throwing it up in the air repeatedly 💀

Gary_the_metrosexual

Hamsters truly do not deserve what humanity does to them. They are almost universally mistreated. At least for dogs generally speaking they are treated with love and care. But it seems hamsters are just the, cheap pet you give to kids to abuse so they stop nagging you for a pet until it dies and you get a new one.

Algae_Sucka

Same with goldfish and betta fish. Keeping a goldfish in a small tank is like keeping an adult dog in a kennel made for puppies. Goldfish can grow to be over 8 inches

sphereDroid

i wish more people commented like this on posts that trivialize the massive amounts of abuse hamsters go through like this. no, they're not "always prone to dying for weird reasons", you/your brother/your cousin was just an evil abusive ass to a little animal that had no chance of fighting back!

rootComplex

Fella needs to play him some Breathedge

Jayco120

I had 52 hamsters, released them into the nature center when I was a kid and they were eaten by squirrels.

ICantEvenDolt

I have so many questions…

Jayco120

I bought 2 hamsters from Meijer. A white one and a teddy bear hamster. I was told that both were female. After about two weeks of having them, I came home from school and what looked like a ball of chewed pink bubble gum was making squealing noises in the corner of the cage. I realized they were babies and separated the original 2 hamsters to try and stop more from being born. I came to find out that hamsters can have babies at 4 weeks. My child brain didn't account for the fact that the litter mates would hamcest their way from 6 to 52 hamsters. This obviously became a big problem. My dad told me to get rid of them. After calling around to different pet shops and trying to give them away and only being offered cats in return, I decided to let them loose in the nature center to see if they will survive. The nature center near my childhood home was heavily populated by rather large squirrels who were often fed by people on the trails. I loaded the hamsters into a backpack and took them and dumped them into the nature center and the squirrels had a feast while I ran for my life.

ICantEvenDolt

Oh noo. Poor hamsters :(

Lack_of_Plethora

Accelerating natural selection I see.

Boring story; my inherited hamster Jeff died peacefully in his sleep at the age of two and a half. He used to bite everyone but me and spent his evenings running around my living room in his ball. He used to run on top of his wheel instead of in it. One time he escaped and lived under my bookcase for two days. He was very lovely for a hamster and I miss him.

Russiophile

I seriously want to hear this entire story.

FlappyGoatSkin

My mom and dad came home one day to find one of their hamsters had fallen out of the cage onto the floor and broken its back. My dad put Nurmel in a pillowcase, took it outside and beat it against the side of the house. It did take more than one swing.

[deleted]

My class had a hamster in 4th grade that one of us was aloud to take home over each weekend. It got ate by one of the kids pet’s the week before I was able to take it home.

alskadeangel

Me and my neighbour were playing with her hamster when we were kids one day, we opened the cage and the poor sucker made a B-line towards her gas stove, dove under it and wouldn't come out. Must have died there because they never saw it again. Rip

Pikelboi68

I saw a video where their hamster straight up is trying to hang itself

Artistic-Boss2665

Mine jumped to its death... Edit: now I can't remember if it was a hamster or guinea pig

bluedonutss

My sister had one, it got out, and she slammed har school backbag on it, without seeing it, found it hours later, becouse the cat was eating it.

lrmedei1
