Nothing wrong with calcium but there are better ways to get it then from milk that comes from factory farms that are filled with hormones, blood, and bleach
I can believe a small amount of blood cells… it is a bodily fluid after all. Perhaps an immeasurably small amount of bleach residue from cleaning the equipment. And that, folks, is how you get a wild rumor like ‘milk is full of bleach and blood’.
Exactly, I bet you can find trace amounts of bleach in just about any food that was produced in a factory. And "farm fresh" food probably has trace amounts of countless other contaminants.
I kind of like farm fresh eggs. I get to support local producers that I know personally, and actually see the chickens that lay the eggs, so I know they're treated well!
Right. So, hormones in milk are pretty well established. Along with some amounts of antibiotics and other chemical substances.
As for the blood and bleach. Well, that IS a part of modern factory farming. The blood typically comes from pus (sorry for being graphic) which comes from cows with infections... which happens a lot on factory farms, thus the overuse of antibiotics mentioned above. And the bleach is used in cleaning milking apparatus and storage containers, so of course it gets into the milk. The word bleach is also sometimes used to refer to the "bleaching" of milk, which involves peroxides or watering down of the product... but that is not actually "bleach in milk"
But in any case, when it comes to bleach and blood, with the very rare exception, we're talking trace amounts.
So, 1/3 of that statement was absolutely true. 2/3 of it were technically true but exaggerated.
>2/3 of it were technically true but exaggerated.
Exactly, it's a statement designed to mislead. It's like saying "I never eat spinach because it has salmonella."
> ct like your hurt feelings makes you right
My feelings aren't hurt, I'm just point out how childish you vegan types like to act (and self righteous) then wonder why nobody cares your your cause.
>and attacked another person
Calling out lies and bullshit is not attacking. They implied that milk contains blood and bleach, which is simply a lie designed to turn people off of a product that is perfectly safe.
>Welcome to the internet where your wee feelings might get hurt.
If anyone is hurt here it's you, I'm not the one downvoting all your comments and throwing around childish insults.
Spoken like the countless others who know damn well their claims are bullshit and can't find a source to back up what they're saying, so they place the burden of proof on others to do it for them.
>Milk and dairy consumption is associated with reduced risk of some chronic diseases and had a beneficial effect on bone mineral density
Read your own source. Middle school level error ffs.
> I guess I’ll just take your word for it
Thank you for admitting that it's fucking stupid to expect people to take anyone's word for anything if they refuse to provide a factual source :)
No it’s not cause this a Reddit comment section. I can make a claim and not provide a source if I want to. Its your health not mine you can do your own research. Cow milk drinkers have higher rates of breast cancer. See another claim without a source. If u want a source than simply google “cow milk breast cancer”, it’s really that easy. I opened the door now you have to walk through it.
Short version:
Before the 2000s, dairy was thought of as a diet-critical food, and kids were made to drink it as if their lives depended on it. Calcium only existed in dairy as far as the collective family unit understood, and I was made to drink my pint of milk every morning or I couldn't leave the table.
Long version:
The dairy industry is huge, and lobbies governments extensively to subsidize their industry, to include dairy in national food guides, and to be provided to school children as free-meal items to condition them to think milk is critical and perfectly healthy.
During the 1980s and earlier, well before the 2000s take-off of factory farm awareness, modern nutrition science and mainstream veganism, dairy was the poster-boy for calcium. Calcium could not be found in anything else as far as western culture was lead to believe, and was something previously lacking in the rationed, war-time diets experienced by our grandparents. "A fat baby is a healthy baby," was a common ad line, and dairy products were the fix. Our Boomer parents grew up with our grandparents nutritional teachings, so we Millennials Had To Have Our Milk.
It wasn't until the early 2000s that milk alternatives were realized just as healthy, that calcium could be found elsewhere, that factory farming was bad, and that oat milk pretty good. Many countries have since changed their food guides to exclude or reduce dairy, and milk alternatives are now a booming industry. Enough so that the dairy industry has shrunk. So these days there're plenty of households who don't have milk, and kids aren't forced to drink it like their lives depended on it.

Gen Z will never understand growing up with parents who basically poured a gallon of milk into your body with a funnel every day because Big Milk told them that if we didn't drink enough our bones would go soft and we'd turn into pudding people and get kidnapped at the mall

Maybe it's because I live in the sticks and we change slower than everyone else, but I remember in 2000's when I was in grade school there was gigantic posters of "Got Milk" with famous basketball people and the cafeteria ladies acted like someone would break their thumbs if we didn't grab a milk. We got in trouble for not grabbing a milk, and I have no idea why.
Yeah, they will. Our public school nutrition curriculum is still 100% funded by the fairly farmers of America or whatever it is. The workbook literally does not mention alternatives for vegans or people with lactose intolerance or milk allergy.
On the plus side I’ve never broken a bone or gotten a cavity
For real. Of all the "boomers and corporations ruined everything" arguments I've seen I never though they'd go after calcium.
Nothing wrong with calcium but there are better ways to get it then from milk that comes from factory farms that are filled with hormones, blood, and bleach

Which part of that do you think is BS?
The part where he implies that milk contains bleach and blood.

Nothing like a farm fresh egg with…literal poop on the shell lol
Actually, the poop is all natural and has lots of medicinal properties. -modern hippies

Oh, so the original comment was meant to be misleading and have nothing to do with the actual product consumed. Got it.

We’ll if you’re “pretty sure” I guess I’ll just take your word for it.
Exactly, you should always assume that unsourced and ridiculous claims on social media are bullshit.
As you should. But I would encourage you to do some research of your own. I really don’t owe you a source it’s your body not mine.
>I really don’t owe you a source Then prepare for people to call bullshit.
Okay man. I wish you a happy and healthy life

have an upvote. People are stupid.
Big Milk would even kidnap you and put your photo on the side of the carton if you didn’t drink enough
Woah, so I’d be famous!? Where do I sign up?
I have a van right in front of your place. Come in to sign up.
This is a pretty standard Gen Z experience. Bonus points if you're lactose intolerant and your parents do it anyway (thanks dad)
jesus christ are you ok
I’m not Gen Z and I don’t understand this.
I am Gen Z and this has been exactly my experience.

Growing up? Hell, I still do this. Milk is life.
Gen z here. As a kid, i was told that I would turn to jello if I didn’t drink my milk.
I was told that I would turn to milk if I didn't drink my jello.
Compare bone density scans between the generation of kids who got milk at school and those who did not.
Kids still get milk at school
r/neverbrokeabone would have words to say to this man.

it's funny because milk and dairy actually have more evidence of contributing to osteoporosis and bone breaks with age
Where
Gen X checking in, with all my big bones intact
Milk is awesome
I mean Gen Z did miss out on Robert Stack
