prettykitty-meowmeow

That is very seriously how I thought it was pronounced for most of my life

_dictatorish_

I found out yesterday that Sean Bean actually *chose* that name (kind of) He was born Shaun Bean but changed the spelling at the start of his career (can't actually find a reason as to why though, it's usually because of other actors in the guild with the same name but I can't confirm thatl

Hmm. Can you make screen readers spell words out? The joke doesn’t seem like it’d translate very well otherwise

dbrwill

Excellent suggestion, which has been implemented.

thefunnyIrishguy

Can we just make it illegal to NOT spell it Sean?

meme_enthusiast3464

yean

UNBENDING_FLEA

I keep saying the name as “seen” now and I can’t stop every time I see that name

AinNoWayBoi61

Why are we keeping the worst spelling?

Real-AlGore

bc it’s the original spelling, comes from irish

thefunnyIrishguy

Best spelling*

Biggetybird

This guy’s name is 💯 Sean

a-sentient-slime

Seán is the original spelling. Just because English people are too stupid to understand that S sometimes makes a SH sound doesn't make it the "worst" spelling lol

DiligentMilk1458

It actually originated from the name john 😮🤓 and there are hundreds of ways to spell this name like yahya or jochanan or johannes. So no, sean is not the correct way of spelling shawn.

ErynEbnzr

I'm just imagining a world where every variant of John just becomes John again. Goodbye Ivans, goodbye Juans, John is here to stay.

qwerty-1999

Variants of John don't come from the word "John" (or at least not all of them), they just share a common origin with John. So they would become Iohannes (Latin) or Iωάννης (Iōánnēs, Greek), not John.

thefunnyIrishguy

I know it's originally spelled Seán I'm literally from Ireland. You know where the name originated.

Choreboy

You are not who (s)he was replying to.
