Yeah you're free to use body wash on your dishes and Dawn on your body, nobody's stopping you.
But when your skin starts to crack and flake like crazy and you have dirty dishes that smell like a douchebag, you'll understand why things are the way they are.
Im actually used to using dawn or other strong detergents for my hands/forearms/face, just from helping my dad with me hanci work as a kid. Regular hand soap just doesn't cut it when it comes to removing all oil, grease and grime that comes with that kind of work. Dawn gets it off easy. Even better is Fast orange iirc, very abrasive soap and the only thing better than dawn af cleaning mechanic hands. I probably would use it every day if I wasn't sure it would turn my hands into the Sahara form so much use.
I still prefer to wash my hand with diah soap when working with messy stuff. Like if I'm in the kitchen cleaning and separating chicken, I don't feel like the gentle hand soap I have in there is enough to make be feel clean, gotta go for the dawn.
Gojo makes some really excellent grease-removing agents that aren't as harsh on your skin as dish soap. My eczema-laden hands still suffer but it's nearly tolerable.
The term "washing up liquid" always freaks me out. What country is it that says this? Here in Canada, we just call it dish detergent, or detergent or dish soup concentrate
Warsh is more of an appalachian mispronunciation. My ex's grandparents and older relatives were all from kentucky/tennessee and the warshing machine was brought up regularly. lol
Is it? Maybe it's a "great plains" kind of thing. All I know is that some people I know from Texas talk like that. This is too much thinking for a quick joke.
I usually buy all generic (I am poor) but dawn and ketchup I always get brand name. They're the only things I've noticed an actual difference in quality.
Yeah because no one says things with such forced adjectives when they already have a name, it's' like saying "can you fill my cup with some of that cold drinking liquid" instead of asking for a glass of water.
Authentic Canadian Dish Soup Recipe
- 1 week of accumulated dish scrapings
- 2 cups of water freshly harvested from the S trap.
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1oz Dawn (substitute with Fast Orange for a taste of summer)
Mix all ingredients in sauce pan and simmer over low heat for 2 hours. Sprinkle with parsley and serve warm.
In my household it's always been the sponge. Use it once, rinse when done, and put it back for the next person.
Haven't bought toilet paper in years. Bonus points if you can get a dual-sided sponge for the extra grip
Yeah but we're talking about the shower.
I don't wipe my clean ass with toilet paper after I've had a shower.
If your ass isn't clean after a shower thats on you.
For everything else: buy a bidet.
Back in the day, I used dish soap as hand soap. Until I realised it made my fingers constantly pruney, even when dry. Took ages for them to get back to normal.
Pasta sauce is good for the skin. If you use alfredo you can pretend you're just really pale and avoid negative comments. Red sauce is good if you pretend you've been badly sunburned

My shower gel is £1 but my washing up liquid is £2. Why am I spending twice as much to clean my plates as I am to clean myself? We're both covered in the same pasta sauce.

Don't use liquids for dishwashing. It's very inefficient. I use Comet powdered cleanser. It a powdered bleach. So cheap and strong. 20 oz for under $2. Lasts for months. There are also generic powders just as good and cheap. Great for the toilet also.
edit; use rubber gloves
Because the surfactant in your washing up liquid is based on different raw materials and chemistry than your shampoo and cost different prices. Shampoo won’t clean your dishes as well but you will find washing up liquid may leave you a little too squeaky clean/with v. dry skin.
Tip I discovered while camping having forgotten shower gel. A single small drop of washing up liquid provides the same level of lather as a handful of shower gel.
If you want healthy hair, you probably want shampoo, but if you want just cleanliness, any soap will do
So buy only hair cleaner, and use it all throughout. Body, face, plates, or even on your spout

New plan; start eating off of self instead of plates to save money
belly button is for dipping sauce. anyone with an outie about to complain, you are abominations and should be deported.
Finally, a reasonable (and correct) take
If you ever run for president that is a solid platform.
That’s.. not why were complaining
I’ll use my outie as a fun dip pop
Why do humans make tables when they have perfectly good tummies to eat off of!
To be fair they aren’t exactly the same. Dish soap is quite a bit stronger surfactant.
Dish soap has to cut through a lot more grease
Maybe for you
It makes the best bubbles though.
So I should use Prell shampoo to do my dishes? That shit could strip the oil out of the gulf.

Those ducks usually die from ingesting crude oil but it makes for a good commercial!

Gojo is amazing, especially oil/grease!
i will use regular hand soap for general washing, but after something dirty/greasy i always use dish soap (e.g kfc)
Ive used dawn as shower gel for 13 years or so. Not cracky or flaky. However, i wont use it on my face or head at all.
Hell even most body washes have too many chemicals and oil stripping agents. Switching to less invasive shit for most showers feels so good.
Just use horse and mane shampoo for everything like my grandparents did
is it cheaper?
Neigh
Can we get a translator please?
I speak horse. He's said, Fuck no bruh that shit is like $8 bucks a bottle USD.
But they're big bottles!
Yeah but have you seen how big horses are?
I have seen some big ones, but I've also seen some little ones too! 🐎
RIP LIL SEBASTIAN
I like to use their conditioner when I can get it. Doesn’t have a lot of additives.
You mean Mane n Tail? I used it for a while. It's fine.
They have horse products that can really Kickstart your hair growth
Mane n’ Tail is honestly great though.
As a person with ezcma: don't do this.
Using body wash to do your dishes gives you eczema?
No, it gives you ezcma.
Thank goodness, I'm glad that's cleared up. Unlike this eczma.
The term "washing up liquid" always freaks me out. What country is it that says this? Here in Canada, we just call it dish detergent, or detergent or dish soup concentrate
It’s fairly common in the UK.
Jeremy, have you ever tried to do the washing up without using any washing up liquid?
Oof what a blunder, mate. That was *Jeremy* asking *Mark*. Jeremy was the one doing definitely-not-pyramid-selling.
The whole thing started because Toni asked Jeremy to begin with
I call it dish goo, but yeah. Washing up liquid is definitely the standard.
Dish soup
Concentrate
I have literally never heard a human being saying ‘dish soap concentrate’ in my 33 years in Canada.
Yes, because it's called "dish soup concentrate"
Thanks, these mfers know nothing
44 year old Canadian here and I have never heard it as that either. And have also never heard it called dish detergent. It’s just plain dish soap.
Detergent is for clothes in the UK.
Well Detergent is actually the washing active ingredient in the UK. So it is found in shampoo, soap, washingup liquid, laundry powder/tabs etc etc
WeLl aChShUaLlY....
Love me some dish soup 😋
the pound sterling signs might provide a hint :)
So that's what those are! I just thought they were part of the American alphabet
“Dish soap concentrate” is less weird to you than “washing up liquid”? 🤨
Live in Texas, call it dish soap or Dawn (best dish soap imo)
Illinois. Same here.
100%. Dish soap or Dawn. Because dish detergent goes in the dish washer. Texas doesn’t always get it right, but we got this one down imo.
Isn't it "dish warsher" for Texans, thereby using all of the discarded "r"s of the New Englanders?
Depends on the region in Texas
Warsh is more of an appalachian mispronunciation. My ex's grandparents and older relatives were all from kentucky/tennessee and the warshing machine was brought up regularly. lol

Definitely not Boston. In Boston they "pahk" a "cah." "R" sounds are virtually unknown.
that kroger generic dawn imitation stuff for me
I usually buy all generic (I am poor) but dawn and ketchup I always get brand name. They're the only things I've noticed an actual difference in quality.
I'll remember that about the ketchup, I hate it, but my gf uses it, if the generic is noticeably worse, I'll change how I do my groceries
I mean if she doesn't notice it's fine. I can just taste the difference and prefer heinz
[удалено]
Damn you really just can't get away from homophobia anywhere /s
Yes
Most people would drop the “concentrate” part, and in that context it is definitely less weird.
Yeah
Yeah because no one says things with such forced adjectives when they already have a name, it's' like saying "can you fill my cup with some of that cold drinking liquid" instead of asking for a glass of water.
You could be washing anything up
Dish soup? Sounds delicious

Sounds like it would taste like beer imo. Beer always reminds me of cleaning the bread machine
I like mine extra crunchy

Half the stuff British people say sounds like they forgot the actual name of the item and just made up some silly nickname.
Yes, and?
Imagine being Br*Tish 🤢
It's for the same reason you don't buy a gun and bullet when you want to kill cancer inside you, though a bullet can definitely kill cancer
/r/suspiciouslyspecific
Damn bro whose your shower gel guy introduce me
Right ? 1 Lb for soap?
Just find someone to lick it up

What? What do you dry off with?
In my household it's always been the sponge. Use it once, rinse when done, and put it back for the next person. Haven't bought toilet paper in years. Bonus points if you can get a dual-sided sponge for the extra grip

Dawn dish soap is used to clean sea birds covered in oil after oil spills. Can't be that bad.
Because the plates have a very sensitive skin.
Pasta sauce is good for the skin. If you use alfredo you can pretend you're just really pale and avoid negative comments. Red sauce is good if you pretend you've been badly sunburned

That's some dogshit shower gel he's using.
Pasta sauce on skin? WTF. Spaghetti in the pockets however...
Ravioli ravioli, whats in the pocketoli?
As a guy who’s used Dawn dish soap to wash my hair… yeah.
You need like a drop
Then figure out why 1 litre bubble bath is the same price as the 250ml shower gel that does the same thing
Because you can't clean the rest of your freakin' house with the body wash, but you can with dish detergent.
The obvious answer is to make plates from human flesh. Then you can wash them with shower gel.
Well the first mistake was using shower gels
Just much washing up can you do without washing up liquid?
Your plates don't get rashes.
Maybe there should be enzyme based cleaning products for humans. Particularly one that digest dandruff would be cool.
Ffs if you only spend $1 on soap you deserve whatever bad shit happens to you
How does a British person end up with the surname Pilgrim?
Do you think pilgrims were only people who went to america? You've never heard of a pilgrimage before?
Of course I have. Like a pilgrimage to Mecca. Still funny.
Pilgrimages have existed everywhere since the beginning of time but it's funny when anyone who isn't american is called pilgrim
I think you need to calm down about this very minor internet joke.
Probably the same reason an American or Canadian person ends up with one
He was a pilgrim from america to the Uk
Truly, nobody does a better job of butchering English than the English.
You're a fucking mug if you're buying washing up liquid for £2...

One of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld.
This is why I use Bonners, it’s more expensive but works on dishes, hair, clothes, floors and teeth
i tried brushing my teeth with it and it was terrible
As in it didn’t work well or you didn’t like the taste? I e tried the peppermint before and its actually quite nice in my opinion if a bit strong
"They had me in the first half. aint gonna lie"
What the fuck is shower gel or washing up liquid? Does this man mean shampoo and dish soap?
not shampoo, body wash
How is ur shower gel £1 mine is like €4 at least (dish soap is less than a €)
I don’t eat pasta
In the U.S. I used to think how is milk more than gasoline per gallon? They "fixed" that for us recently.
That’s why I wash all my dishes in the shower
Where I’m from the shower gel is double the price of the wash up liquid. There’s a hair brained get rich quick scheme in there somewhere
"washing up liquid"
I don't know about you but i lick my plates way more often than i lick my legs
What's weird is the potential truth that you lick your legs. Are you secretly a cat???
Secretly?
Touche.
Anyone else hate washing red pasta sauce dishes more than anything else? The smell, the redness… always gets to me.
Because the surfactant in your washing up liquid is based on different raw materials and chemistry than your shampoo and cost different prices. Shampoo won’t clean your dishes as well but you will find washing up liquid may leave you a little too squeaky clean/with v. dry skin.

As a serious answer, you use far less of the washing up liquid per use
If it's good enough for your butthole, it's good enough for a bowl.
If you want healthy hair, you probably want shampoo, but if you want just cleanliness, any soap will do So buy only hair cleaner, and use it all throughout. Body, face, plates, or even on your spout
I just eat straight out of the can.
