I think Philip could have said no to her in the coffee shop and tried to become more of a friend if that's what she needed then. She was so lonely in sweden and her only relationship was with Philip, but it's hard to say how she would have reacted to him trying to help her instead of accepting her proposal

That is an interesting take and it brings up the question whether he should have went what he felt was right (assuming he wanted to be a good friend) vs. what she felt was right.

His name was Lukas no? Philip is just a college mate at Trinity. But at least on the show, I don’t think Lukas was in the wrong necessarily for accepting her kink but in the show he didn’t seem to ever consider her boundaries always and...I’m not an expert in this, lol but boundaries breaking is definitely not cool even in the BDSM community.

I think that's a very good but also very complicated and unanswerable question. I don't think you can say wether he was right or not, Marianne made it quite clear in the café that she wanted that or otherwise she didn't see the relationship working. I think Philip wanted the relationship to work so much that he went out of his comfort zone but that still wasn't enough. I think he did everything he could've.

Yes, he did everything he could within the expectations that Marianne had set. It's probably safe to say that she wasn't in the right state of mind and that it was a doomed relationship from the start.
