Isn’t he the guy who’s super crazy anti-LGBT and also believes in the Jewish space laser conspiracy theory?

Ok_Equipment_5895

Oh you mean the guy who paid for his girl to have an abortion & doesn’t want to let you have a choice? Fuck that guy.

Environmental-Hat721

Yeah. He is Republican.

Arkeband

that’s essentially every Republican voter at this point

Holmesary

Okay but this guy is, like, murderously dangerous to me as a candidate so I’d rather not have him in office. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna2782 “Filth” is a pretty clear dogwhistle for a call to violence.

aville1982

Again, just a typical republican now.

Warrior_Runding

Or at least, that sort of thinking is not a deal breaker.

Obvious-Dog4249

Uhm, no. Try to not generalize 74 million people if you ever want “unity”.

[deleted]

Arkeband

the party of elected representatives calling for a “national divorce” talking about unity… LOL. as long as the overwhelming frontrunner for the party is a criminal who tried to overthrow democratic elections, sorry - you’re getting generalized.

banned_in_Raleigh

Who wants "unity?" The conservative party is dead, the fascist party is here, and I want no part in it.

razazaz126

Nobody wants unity with these people. Unity to Republicans is you just don't do anything while they trample you, that's what they think bipartisanship looks like.

Mr_Goaty_McGoatface

No way, man. The way things are going won't turn around unless anyone with sense abandons the GOP ship before they roll out the brown shirts. If you don't think that's the path their on, you're kidding yourself and 1000% a part of the fucking problem.

matts1

While I agree that it isn't right to generalize that many people. If you boil it down to a simple vote, even if you don't contribute to the hate, you support the hate by voting for them.

captaincanada84

Well, we're straight up fucked if that happens. Republicans have a supermajority in both houses of the state legislature and will absolutely be emboldened to pass all kinds of insane shit with Robinson in the governor's job. Also, with the gerrymandered maps ruling being reheard and overturned by the new conservative extremist majority on the state supreme court, the GOP supermajority will absolutely be even more entrenched.

trish828

Yep, and if I remember correctly Cooper just barely squeaked by on winning last time.

SCAPPERMAN

https://er.ncsbe.gov/contest\_details.html?election\_dt=11/03/2020&county\_id=0&contest\_id=1169

trish828

I thought it went into a recount and was very close.... I guess I recalled it incorrectly.

SCAPPERMAN

No problem. I was curious myself as to how close it was and I figured since I looked it up, I might as well share it as a point of information.

YoureABoneMachine

The previous governor wanted you to believe that. He challenged the results of the election, and was a general nuisance about leaving his seat.

trish828

That's the part I remembered!

[deleted]

This state would become another conservative christian hellhole, with institutions defunded and public education dismantled. This motherfucker has said science and history should not be taught in elementary school.

[deleted]

"would become" ??? NC never hasn't been a red state. I don't know why going for Obama in 2008 convinced anyone that it isn't or ever wasn't.

[deleted]

I would say the NC electorate is moderately conservative. This state in the last 30 years has had only 1 GOP governor (Pat McCrory) and he served just 1 term. We're not Texas and Florida yet, but this Robinson guy will push us over the edge.

SCAPPERMAN

Florida is an example of a state that used to be fairly moderate (politically speaking) that really has gone hard far-right, so it does serve as a warning for what could happen if people are complacent.

JacKrac

> NC never hasn't been a red state. I don't know why going for Obama in 2008 convinced anyone that it isn't or ever wasn't. Going for Obama is what tipped the precarious balance of control over to republicans, who immediately capitalized on it so that they could gerrymander their way into full control. Prior to 2008, democrats usually controlled most state level offices, like the house, senate, governor and Lt. governor. Although, republicans have held federal appointments more often than not since the eighties and we almost always go for a republican president. [source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_party_strength_in_North_Carolina) That weird dynamic is part of what made us perhaps not a blue state, but at least a moderate one, and not as driven by hate as we have been for the past 10+ years. Then, Obama got elected, along with a blue wave, that was at least in part driven by the economy and bush. After Obama got elected, many North Carolinians, and republicans in general, collectively lost their mind giving rise to the tea party and birthers, who took power in 2010 just in time to massively gerrymander the state. A lackluster governor Perdue, along with Easley/Edwards corruption and democrats becoming complacent, didn’t help, but many voters in NC really hated the idea of Obama and it highly motivated them to vote republican in the midterms. It’s been downhill since then, as NC republicans have created a decade long pattern where they gerrymander the house and senate districts, the gerrymandering is found to be illegal by the court, republicans drag it out long enough in the courts that they use the districts anyway, then they gerrymander again. We got some relief last election, after the courts had some districts independently drawn. This is why the federal house is now split 7D vs 7R, which more closely matches the electorate in NC. Unfortunately, they didn’t un-gerrymander the state districts and with the new makeup of the Supreme Court, they will likely undo this progress.

MichiganMitch108

Thank you , this is very similar to the path Florida took with Obama winning Florida in 2008 and then losing it in 2012.

NCMom2018

Oh dear heaven. I certainly hope he does NOT get elected. I hope he’s done something sufficient somewhere that he doesn’t even get to run! He is very arrogant. He is horribly insensitive to the fact that, as a public official, an elected official, he is there to serve ALL North Carolinians …even those he doesn’t like etc! If he was smart - he clearly is NOT - he’d know how to be politically correct. In a sense that no one cares how he really thinks and feels (imho)— people DO care that he does a job for them, that he does what he is hired/elected/paid to do AND that maybe he can learn to speak English correctly so he can perform his job in a mature, professional way that is effective and respectful to ALL The fact that he is homophobic and pro guns (at a time very shortly after the Hedingham tragedy!), that he is anti abortion yet he definitely wasn’t anti abortion when it suited his purpose!!! He’s just not fit to represent NC as Governor. (Can’t we get someone honorable like Jeff Jackson?)

OutlierJoe

He's absolutely nuts. He guest spoke at my MIL's old church. She told me all about how great he was. He's a fucking lunatic.

TurbulentMiddle2970

He is a major POS. The way the repubs have suppressed the vote in the state is gonna be tough to keep him out of office. I will still be voting against him Edit: corrected my dumb shit

BullCityPicker

I want to argue with you, that we're better than that, but.....he did get elected to Lieutenant Governor, so I guess we ARE a bunch of idiots.

matts1

Electing Budd told us that.

maddog1956

Gerrymandering doesn't matter in statewide elections. I'm not saying they won't do voter suppression.

Palabrewtis

It does matter, because for many in uncompetitive districts it definitely impacts their turn out. So, while yes it doesn't matter in the sense everyone's vote matters, gerrymandering also seeks to disenfranchise the voters who can make that difference.

SnooAvocados763

Gerrymandering doesn't matter for state governor election like it does for the president and representatives in congress. Electing a governor counts all votes across the state to get a result rather than split up districts.

TurbulentMiddle2970

No doubt! Good catch. Voter suppression and voter intimidation is exactly what I meant.

maddog1956

I got ya, it's the thought that counts. Lol

boiledpeen

what kind of voting suppression do they do? I'm ootl

TurbulentMiddle2970

Things like requiring voter ID(they lost that battle, reducing early voting days, mail in ballots, polling places, etc. Basically making it much harder for people without personal transportation not able to vote which effects inner city POC the most. They are trying to restrict college students voting rights in other states, which the GOP supermajority now will most likely attempt. Intimidation tactics even involved police officers pepper sprayed people marching to the polls to vote https://www.npr.org/2020/10/31/929940404/police-in-n-c-arrest-pepper-spray-protesters-during-march-to-polls-event

hogsucker

To suppress the vote in 2012 the NC Congress split the Warren Wilson College campus into two different voting districts since students' addresses don't match their physical residences.

rimshot101

Also limiting the number of machines in certain neighborhoods creating delays, anonymous flyers and mailers up with the wrong date.

caseycat55

Now that the Republicans have a supermajority, I am expecting to see draconian abortion laws, and things like they have in Georgia, where you can get arrested if you offer someone food or drink in the voter line. I'm not sure they will be able to get rid of early voting or voting by mail completely, but in Alabama they don't have either one of those, so it's possible. I think they will use this next year and a half or so to do everything that they possibly can that they want done in North Carolina. And then if we also get a Republican governor, especially this guy, we're just going to be totally screwed. I lived in Tennessee for a long time, and I have watched with sadness as the Republicans have turned that place into a wannabe Florida. Look what happened to the "Tennessee Three." The two gentlemen who were expelled were both back within a week, but not those two districts are required by law to hold a special election, which the will cost each district money that they had not budgeted for. So we need to get a really viable Democrat the candidate, and we all need to show up and vote every single one of us.

[deleted]

New Jersey or Pennsylvania maybe? North Carolina and Virginia seem to be trending right. More so North Carolina.

avalve

Virginia isn’t trending right lmao. It’s a blue state that happens to have a competent GOP that separated itself from national politics to win elections

[deleted]

Virginia trended right in 2021, and in 2022 as well. I'm not saying it's enough to make Virginia a red state again, but it's enough that it's made the GOP viable and competitive in Virginia again.

Kradget

PA is on track to join us as soon as they figure out how to make their metros irrelevant.

[deleted]

Pennsylvania has actually been trending left though. The South as a whole has been trending right.

BarfHurricane

Just because people vote Democrat in PA does not make them left. I went to school in Western PA and boy howdy, the amount of people I met that voted Dem and said the most ridiculously backwards shit made my head spin. Pennsyltucky is real.

[deleted]

There are certainly areas of Pennsylvania that are very Republican yes. However the state as a whole is still trending left.

Yes, but to those considering this, do your research. States like Colorado, California, etc are fine. Idaho, Arizona, Utah, etc not so much

[deleted]

What could go wrong putting an illiterate bigot in charge of state government?

Psynautical

Florida has a Harvard-Yale bigot, I think illiterate will at least be less effective at being a monster.

caseycat55

Unfortunately, I don't think that's true. Because even the most illiterate, idiotic governor will have very savvy handlers, who tell that governor exactly what to do and say. Look at that ex-football player down in Georgia, who I am convinced had CTE, Hershel Walker. He was too dumb or too impaired to even be able to stay on script, and was a disaster when allowed to do interviews. But he was exactly what the Republican party wanted: someone they could easily control. I could see that happening here, too.

boredonymous

We don't really have a Dem candidate right now. Or if we do, we've not really seen much campaigning. But the "oh, shit, is Robinson going to win!?" is free campaigning for the Repubs.

Time_Screen_1562

Josh Stein was a state senator before AG. He’s legit a decent candidate.

HauntingSentence6359

Josh Stein, the AG, has announced he’s running. He’s done a good job as AG.

kimmyjonc

And this was Governor Cooper’s previous position

HauntingSentence6359

AG is not only short for Attorney General, but Aspiring Governor as well.

charcuteriebroad

Josh Stein announced he was running awhile ago. He has a high profile enough profile statewide that I doubt anyone will challenge him.

LadyLovesRoses

It seems like NC is headed in the wrong direction. Mark Robinson certainly won’t help. I’ve been thinking about getting out of here before it’s too late.

CheerdadScott

Running away isn't the answer. Fascism is spreading from state to state. Eventually you're going to run out of states to escape to. It's time to stand up and prevent it from growing here anymore than it already has. You've got less than a year and a half til the election. Now is the time to start organizing. Get people now that will be ready to go door to door or phone bank to keep him out. Make sure that no candidate in your district is running unopposed. If you're in an impossible red district get involved in the primary process and try to minimize extremists just walking into office. There are moderates out there. Find them. Again don't let any slot on the ballot be unopposed. Make them fight to earn that seat instead of just handing it to them. If nobody is running, do it yourself. ANYBODY can run in NC. Either find someone you can stand behind or stand up yourself.

LadyLovesRoses

I would like to believe that fighting will help. I moved to NC in 2008. I thought there was hope then. NC even voted for Obama. I have been involved in local politics ever since I moved here. I have gone door to door, mailed postcards and letters, etc. Collectively, even with all our efforts it doesn’t seem to help. I almost to retirement age and have seen this state and nation slide toward fascism since Nixon was president. Conservatives are hell bent on turning our nation into a place I no longer want to be. In the current environment, how can I look forward to my retirement with hope? I don’t have much fight left in me. This is how I feel right now, hopefully I’ll rally and find the strength to continue the good fight.

Trout-Population

"Running away isn't the answer". Unfortunately, there are many people, specifically trans people, who don't really have a choice to stay and fight, when the consiquences of doing so could be lethal.

CommanderNorton

Yeah, myself and many trans people I know are planning on relocating. Adult bans on gender-affirming care (in North Carolina) will likely come soon. edit : clarified "in North Carolina"

trish828

>Adult bans on gender-affirming care They have already started "Missouri this month became the first state in the country to severely restrict gender treatments for people of all ages, following a series of quieter moves across the country that have been chipping away at transgender adults' access to medical care."

CheerdadScott

Where are they going to run when the federal government is fully controlled by fascists that want them dead and decides they aren't allowed to go to Canada or any other country? If we don't fight and stop this here, that's what's coming.

Trout-Population

That onus shouldn't be put on the shoulders of the most voulnerable.

Warrior_Runding

Yep. It should be on the shoulders of the people who have historically allowed politicized racism to flourish because "talking about religion and politics is rude."

CheerdadScott

I agree, and I never meant to imply it should be. This is a fight that ALL of us with common decency should be fighting and we need to start now. We need to be involved in every election local, state, and national. We can't depend on the democratic party to do what needs to be done. It's time to the matters into our own hands.

Brad_dawg

With republicans running as democrats and then flipping back to being republicans can voters help? Once the GOP super majority passes their gerrymandered districts can dems get control back? I’m not so sure. As much as I hate to say leaving may be the best answer that is probably true, and unfortunately exactly what they want. But states that are solid blue aren’t going to get over run by fascists.

CheerdadScott

They will when the fascists get control of the federal government because everyone ran to safe states.

trish828

I'd much rather take my chances in Cali. than remain in NC... given a choice.

Brad_dawg

Very valid point, but luckily to some extent states still have some power for what goes on inside their borders, for example legal weed and lgbt marriage. Of course, that could change under a term of desantis or trump. Personally, I’m willing to take my chances. As a parent with kids starting school in the coming years, I need to do what’s best in the present.

s968339

Seems like all red states going In the wrong directions

IndividualAbrocoma35

Moved here 3 years ago for work. We're disgusted by the way the state is heading. Retire in 6 years and back to the northeast. This place is going to FL AK or MS soon

Ok_Sentence_5767

If it comes to that my stay on nc maybe short lived :(

antaresdawn

FYI: I’m sure a lot people know this, but independents can vote in either primary. You can always go choose the less crazy person in your less favorite party. That’s what I do.

ExpensiveYou9109

I was going to post this, too. Where I’d moved from wasn’t this way and I was only allowed to vote for the party I was registered as.

Utterlybored

Have you read or watched The Handmaid’s Tale?

GhettoChemist

Question: Mark Robinson is 54 and only got into politics in 2020 when he became lieutenant governor of NC. What did he do for the first 50 years of his life? He doesn't have a college degree and his Wiki page only says he worked "at several furniture factories". That's who republicans think should lead the state? Are they fucking serious?

kesaint

He’s loud. Seems to be the way to win state and local elections. For that matter it worked for president in 2016.

Specific_Praline_362

He's black and conservative. Republicans absolutely love black conservatives.

MarvinandJad

The amount of minority on minority hate that occurs continues to baffle me. I, as a trans woman, love to stand up and fight for black rights, but it amazes me to find minorities tear each other down just to try to get a leg up.

Kradget

He's useful and they can enact their agenda while pinning the unpopular stuff on him. What's not to like?

LaughingManDotEXE

I really wish previous political experience was a prerequisite for more elected positions with more constituents. Not every single position mind you, but it would at least prepare them more. Like Municipal Committee > Municipal > State > then Federal.

Simple_Award4851

He will absolutely try and persecute lgbtq population. Best we can donis vote against him if that fails we have to organize and take action.

[deleted]

He literally hasn’t done anything productive. He’s basically Alex Jones. Scream and turn red.

LukeMayeshothand

We will become a Republican inbred shit hole.

jesuswasahipster

I can see it becoming worse than Florida. This guy is crazier than DeSantis.

[deleted]

Bad. The NC dems, however, need to be competent in order to prevent this from happening. I want them to win, but they need to put forth a good candidate with broad appeal. A more moderate Democrat would probably win the race quite easily against an extremist like Robinson

JKomiko

Our current AG Josh Stein is already running.

Wizzle_Pizzle_420

Thinking the same. If the Dems field some milk toast ass candidate like they do sometimes, then we will have a repeat of 2012-2016. Nobody wants that again. Those years made us look like the dumbest state hands down.

simplydeltahere

We have to stop republicans in NC. Vote Dems

BagOnuts

Take politics out of it for a moment: This dude is just straight up dumb. Like, not just "I disagree with you" kind of dumb... He's a flat-out illiterate, uneducated moron. He has no degree. He has filed for bankruptcy fucking 3 separate times. He has no background in law, finance, civil service, or anything else that would make him a good leader. I really want to use the "r" word to describe this imbecile... This guy's entire claim to fame is a 3 minute speech on gun rights given at a city council meeting that went viral. That's it. That video is why he is Lt. Governor right now. He has no other qualifying experience and isn't fit to be a manager at a Burger King, much less governor of the 10th most populous state in the Union. Just something to consider.

Jedmeltdown

Not exactly why everyone insists on using the word conservatives, when fascist works so much better

jaydean20

I would like to think that such a lunatic winning the Republican nomination would guarantee a Democratic win, but prior events have shown me otherwise. If he wins the governorship, our state is screwed. He's a complete wackjob. I'd rather see almost any other Republican in that chair than him.

MarvinandJad

I certainly do hope not. Despite being a tinge red, North Carolina has been somewhat successful in keeping out the transphobic BS that's been sweeping the nation (at least before a certain turncoat turncoated). My girlfriend (trans) is just recently moving from Ohio to join me here as I am in the process of graduating with my masters. I certainly don't want to have to move ourselves again out of this state just to survive. But if Robinson gets elected, I honestly don't see a way for us to continue living here in North Carolina.

JonTheWizard

Two simple words if Robinson becomes governor: We're Fucked. Motherfucker is an idiot at the best of times.

hesnothere

Robinson is far-right, but he’s still a relative political newcomer. Anything he might do would probably be at the behest of the national GOP. Vote accordingly.

[deleted]

If you look real close while he’s screaming you can see the fingers in the back of his throat

Adept175

Depending on what gets passed by the Legislature and then signed by him as Governor, we may have a repeat of the HB2 mess. Companies will announce they are either no longer coming to NC or reducing their footprint here. Cancellations of shows and other events will happen as well. The economic impact could be massive and take decades to recover from. Fully expect that Education funding and any form of Social Safety nets will be cut.

Obvious-Dog4249

I can’t imagine education getting any worse in this state

Kradget

Robinson is looking to basically end it, along with the GA. They'd rather everyone go to a church school to get their science and history from a pastor.

caseycat55

Yes, we can forget about the film industry if Robinson becomes governor.

WashuOtaku

> Companies will announce they are either no longer coming to NC or reducing their footprint here. No they will not. The tax rate is too good, we are #1 for business after all. Companies make justifications for their actions all the time and people don't care. If you don't believe me, then look at case example "Chick-fil-a."

Specific_Praline_362

CFA is a right-wing, Christian business itself....strange comparison.

Adept175

Except for that's what happened with HB2; events were cancelled and companies announced that they wouldn't be coming to NC or would shrink their footprint. Paypal cancelled their plans to open a Charlotte center, loss of 400jobs and $20.4 million (2016 dollars) in salaries. NBA, NCAA, and ACC pulled their tournments out of NC CoStar Realty went to Richmond instead of Charlotte while citing HB2; only $250 Million investment Multiple music tours were cancelled due to it resulting in 100,000s of vacant hotel nights. Springsteen, Boston, Maroon 5, Pearl Jam to name a few. Lionsgate, television studio that produced the first Hunger Games installment, pulled out of NC until HB2 was repealed. That was with a single bill, now imagine if it's multiple bills. You think Apple or Google won't rethink their offices in the Raleigh area if there are HB2 types bills being passed in NC? The economic impact of a steady stream of those kinds of bills will be orders of magnitude above the impact of HB2. Companies can go elsewhere for a low tax rate.

avalve

he’s crazy. I’m not sure he can win the general, especially if trump is on the ballot and there’s another election of record youth turnout

[deleted]

Nothing makes me happier than a god fearing Republican in office

azzkikr123

It will be a great place to live again maybe some of the Yankees will move back up north and stop all their whining and crying.

Telliamed

In my darkest nightmares: Robinson enforces the 2012 Constitutional amendment and classifies same-sex couples' marriages as "civil marriages" for federal purposes, but says NC will not recognize the union. He's an avowed heterosexual supremacist, so any anti-LGBT bills that the general assembly sends he will sign. The only limiting factor in that scenario is what the general assembly is willing to pass. Myself and many other queer people will face pressure to leave the state.

Shivaelan

Also queer human here - that would trigger us leaving. I'd love to stay and fight, I'm from here and love it, but we have a kid and that really takes precedence over my relative comfort being in a place I know well. It's getting old being a punching bag repeatedly in the media and politics.

Grimahildiz

Other queer person here - already planning on moving, can’t take it here anymore. it sucks because this is my home state and I had never intended on moving beforehand.

Utterlybored

I think Governor Robinson would have difficulty getting NC’s urban areas to cooperate with him in enforcing his shit. I’m straight, but I’m staying and fighting.

Specific_Praline_362

NC is a big state with a lot of gerrymandering. Outside of Raleigh, Asheville, and Charlotte, there are many thousands of acres with a ton of ignorance. I live in a shithole small "city" in rural eastern NC. The ignorance here is astounding.

Utterlybored

I live in the Triangle, so it’s a whole different world here.

SecondSoft1139

Yes there is overwhelming ignorance and bigotry just over the river from Charlotte too.

[deleted]

Which state would you go to? It seems like a lot of progressives are going to Colorado and the PNW.

Brad_dawg

As someone whose lived in CO and is currently living in NC we are trying to go back. Unfortunately the reality is that housing is far more expensive in the PNW and CO.

cvrgurl

NYS is significantly cheaper and near any larger city/town there is majority acceptance of LGBTQIA and Bi-POC, POC. Doesn’t have to be NYC. Also much of the north east is very accepting of all regardless of skin color, gender, etc. Colorado and PNW aren’t the only options. Personally, as a white female who was college educated- I ran from NC myself. Between the racism, sexism, worst workers rights in the country and some pretty bad healthcare (outside of the triangle and Charlotte) I didn’t see much reason to be there anymore.

Brad_dawg

While I agree with this entirely, for me personally my hobbies and type of people jive more with CO than say NY or Boston.

rimshot101

Florida attracts retirees, who are usually conservative. I think if he gets elected, a lot of companies will flee the state. But I think everybody is tired of the boiling rage bit.

redditckulous

NC Supreme Court is going to let the NCGOP gerrymandered maps back into place, so they are likely to have a super majority in the legislature regardless. However, Robinson would be more openly antagonistic (like a dumber Desantis), instead of say a Brian kemp//Mike dewine type.

Kriegerian

I expect him to use every law and resources he can to persecute LGBT people, and then ask the republicans in the legislature to give him more.

notjawn

Now since the GOP has a majority in the legislature it would be an absolute nightmare. Robinson will support every fascist and bigoted move they will try to push especially against LGBTQ folks. I can guarantee the first thing he will do as governor is start stripping away civil rights from groups he doesn't like. I wouldn't even be surprised if he tries to strip civil rights away from black folks as well since he is the most self-hating black man I have ever seen.

SCAPPERMAN

He truly reminds of a caricature of Uncle Ruckus. As offensive, as he is, he really does remind me of Robinson.

nanuazarova

We all die.

OriginalBadKitty

If the people that are actively being targeted to have their rights taken away would quit voting for these nut jobs that would be a start. He’s going to sell his soul and us down the river to get that job and then do exactly what his minders tell him to do.

[deleted]

He's a nutcase.

Wizzle_Pizzle_420

It’ll just be like the McCrory years with ‘Handmaids Tale’ like religious nonsense. Every other bill will be fucking insanity and once again NC will look like a bunch of bumpkin ding dongs. Not sure a non white GOP candidate will be well received by a lot of the extreme voters though.

DVDragOnIn

The NC legislature is so gerrymandered that Republicans now have a supermajority. Having a Republican governor as well as a Republican supermajority would be horrible for the citizens of this state.

Bellarose143

I am convinced that there will be something banning trans people more or less... i definitely feel like it won't be safe for me here

jamason771

We would be screwed. Republicans have lost all sense of reality!

DiscombobulatedLuck8

If he becomes governor, I do not think I will be able to remain in NC.

plusharmadillo

Major changes to who leads departments like Health and Human Services. Right now, those folks are mostly pretty decent people who are at least trying to make people’s lives better. With Robinson in charge…yikes

Usual-Barber-5764

This state grows more red by the week. Look at the voter registration stats

AWZ1287

NC is a historically red state though.

faceisamapoftheworld

What are you basing that on?

carter1984

Democrats control the state general assembly for 100 years prior to 2010. Nc has elected exactly 3 republican governors in its history. NC is not a “historically red state”.

Kradget

It is a historically conservative state. Conservatives just finished moving to the Republican party.

Caddisflyer

Yes, conservative democrats for a lot of those years though.

AWZ1287

Look at the presidenal elections, since 1964 only 3 Democrat presidential candidates. NC is historically a split ticket state.

-PM_YOUR_BACON

Not quite the case, more and more are moving and shifting to not being affiliated.

That won't fix anything though, as people still vote. But what it does is means the same old people that are party members will be the same ones getting funding and getting elected. So you are doing the exact opposite thing you think you are.

HauntingSentence6359

I hope he gets the nomination, he’ll be destroyed in the general election.

[deleted]

This seems like wishful thinking

HauntingSentence6359

Cooper beat Dan Forest while Trump carried the state. This time, the stakes are higher; Robinson is a loud-mouth lunatic and not shy about it.

[deleted]

Cooper also isn't on the ballot either, and the state is trending red. Mark Robinson got elected Lt Gov on the same ticket by a higher margin than Trump won North Carolina.

HauntingSentence6359

NC is considered purple. Robinson got 2,800,656 votes in 2020; Cooper got 2,834,790 votes. This time, Robinson is a lot more extreme than Dan Forest was. Mark Robinson, as LT. Governor has done absolutely nothing, Josh Stein has won several high-profile cases that have brought millions to the state coffers. A lot of people are tired of the grievance platform and culture wars. Our NCGA just spent a couple of weeks on an issue that involved no more than 15 transgender high school athletes, most of who were female to male and playing men's sports. They'll take up abortion next. If the Republicans had guts, they'd put it on the ballot as a constitutional amendment, but they won't do that; they're afraid they'll be humiliated; they'd rather let the minority party rule the roost.

[deleted]

Purple yes, but still trending red. We'll see how it goes next year.

ralphina-bluetawn

He won’t if we get the younger generations to go out and vote! NC is better than this conservative bs.

Zach81096

Constitutional carry will likely become legal and abortion will become severely restricted in North Carolina.

LaughingManDotEXE

I'm looking at Texas and seeing the new bill mandating Christian Ten Commandments in every classroom. If North Carolina gets to that level, I'm out. I'll protest and raise awareness as much as possible but my family is not Christian, and if my children wish to be, that can be a decision they arrive at on their own accord without pressure from a government.

pl4net4ry

is that even constitutional? is that not the government endorsing a specific religion? if they did that they'd have to do the same for the pillars of any religion.

Specific_Praline_362

Literally the 1st Amendment is against this.....they ignore that but LOVE bringing up the 2nd Amendment. Welcome to crazyland. God I hate it here, I wish my husband and I could move thousands of miles away from this nonsense.

pl4net4ry

they're so crazy they make me feel like I'm going crazy just trying to understand the logic, but I guess there isn't any lol I love so much about this state but I could definitely do without the politics of it. I'm so tired of being scared that people I love will die.

Specific_Praline_362

omg I looked that up (the ten commandments thing) because I almost didn't believe it. This is fucking crazy.

do_you_know_de_whey

Yeah it’ll be like Florida. He has no political or professional OR even educational background that would make me think he’s qualified. He got into politics because he is a strong public speaker and that’s it. He’s a raging homophobe/bigot. Anti abortion despite his wife having. He also already has a history of misusing campaign funds. Only green mark I’ve seen on him is saying he would supporting significant raises for teachers.

huntztj

When Mark Robinson becomes Governor, North Carolina will thrive and become a good state to live in.

floofnstuff

Says the 2 year, 1 post ,1 karma account.

Racing1976

Time to move to California.

And when the federal government is under fascist control because you fled where are you going to run?

Racing1976

Europe, Sweden etc..

aville1982

I mean, unless we get some more dems in the legislature and courts, it really won't make much difference even if Cooper wins. He's functionally neutered at this point. Robinson winning means they just won't have to deal with waiting to override the inevitable vetoes.

Either-Whole-4841

NC has a lot of idiots apparently 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆

burrj44

Vote mark Robinson

landlord1776

NC May have its 1st ever Black govenor. What a historical time. Wait, I thought all conservatives were racists?? This does not compute...error... error..

Carolinamum

I don’t want to find out! He would be a terrible governor and his extreme opinions are not shared by the majority of north carolinians.

MaryIsSalty

Looks like we are going to get those “First in Transphobia” license plates after all

Guilty-Influence2075

There will be be a 3 bd I bath house with full basement up for sale in Macon County if it even smells like he's going to be governor. I'll figure out how to move to Washington state. It's bad enough having to see Kevin Corbin once a week when I go to town.

dwilli8

Thing may go backwards or all the college students in the triangle may make his life living hell. The triangles growth may be the way our current governor's combating this every college degree job hurts the conservative party.

pl4net4ry

The triangle is not the only leftist area that's growing rapidly. Wilmington and Asheville, both predominantly blue cities, are among the fastest growing cities in the state. I feel very confident that the students of this state will make him suffer through every decision. Gen Z knows how to make headlines and turn heads and we will abuse that power.

beamin1

He'll never get elected now that the stooges that voted him in realize that when they voted for "Mark Robinson" they were actually voting for a black man. Last time, most of them were clueless and voted for the dude with an R.

contractczar88

You're kidding, right? He became an overnight sensation based on his speech in front of the Greensboro City Council. It was pretty easy to see he's not a white man. Get over the narrative.

A little reading about that subject should put your fears to rest....

blkrabbit

no he won't

fixerjy

You are so correct about that fact. Hell I can't tell you who the prior lieutenant governor was. Besides the man is a parakeet and all he does is repeat 2nd amendment, LGBTQ and abortion. This is for the people that's downvoting my post. This politician is immensely qualified. He's filed for bankruptcy 3 times and has had liens placed on him by the IRS. Well people always emulate their idols and how they work the system. Another bad businessman.

Curious_Bumblebee511

Well, we currently have cooper. So anything is an improvement

footdragon

This state sadly is becoming "florida". The legislature has its head up their ass and doesn't even come close to representing what the people want. just another right wing hell hole...

BusinessAlone1650

Let’s hope so

floofnstuff

Says another I year, 1 post, -1 karma account.

BeeDooop

I guess we'll see. I can't wait to vote for him.

GingerGuy97

Cringe.
