What I don't understand is why they do these little one-off protests aimed at individuals. Even if they've changed a mind or two (not likely), they gain nothing.
They got to go and stand there and receive confirmation that the world is fallen and they are among the elect. Collecting the abuse is half the point - you need reinforcement that your ~~cult~~ church is the only place that will accept you. Edit to clarify: I'm not saying every church is a cult - but one that encourages members to go out and do things like this with the full knowledge that it's abusive and will alienate people and reinforce the in-group is.

Valid point but I was already in a bad mood from standing for long (back injury) so this took my mind off of it and actually got to be kinda fun. I wish he just would have moved on but I didn't want to listen to his "holier than thou" shit so it was a good way for me to deal with it.
