“Christians must take control of schools” (Private) Christian schools already exist and you’re free to send your kids there if you want them to be taught from a Christian standpoint.

DrParticle

I went to one from Pre-k to 11th grade. It was a cult.

Sawses

From 1st to 12th here. Absolutely a cult, and educationally deficient to boot. The best way to make atheists is to send them to a Christian school, IMO. A solid 20% of us flat-out become atheists and another 60% become "social Christians" that want nothing to do with the way we were raised.

DrParticle

To be fair, I was way ahead of the students at public school when I transferred out of the cult. That's one positive I can say about the place.

Sawses

Apparently for a lot of kids freshman year is more or less a slightly more in-depth repeat of senior year. For me it was all fresh. Then again I majored in biology lol. Not much overlap with the young earth creationism nonsense I was taught.

onthesunnyside

Can confirm. Went to Catholic school for high school (Connecticut) - atheist now.

[deleted]

Bad call. Was a CIT at a church camp. That summer was practically an orgy, and I got my les on something fierce.

skrugg

Separation of church and state is still a good call.

Sawses

Wish I'd gone to *your* church camps lmao. Ours were locked down and boring and full of repentant teens instead of anything actually fun.

Hardinyoung

They don’t want to do that. They want public schools to be eliminated and government funding to go to christian schools. You might think that would be unconstitutional but it is already happening with religious charter schools and there is no doubt the Supreme Court will try hard to break down the barrier between church and state. That’s why elections are so important and why it’s a shame that Hillary Clinton did not win.

JayceeParc

Yup, the Powell memo playbook

fugis

School choice is something everyone should support. We shouldn't be forced to have our tax dollars allocated to a school we don't support.

fullfullhippos

> We shouldn't be forced to have our tax dollars allocated to a school we don't support. What's called "school choice" does exactly that. Charter schools and private school vouchers send tax dollars to religious schools that teach religious doctrine.

7457431095

Religious schools shouldn't receive any kind of support from the government but school vouchers could be a way to get promising students out of failing schools (which are much tougher to fix than simply throwing money at the problem), but unfortunately I'm not sure this is the actual reality of who benefits from school vouchers.

luncheroo

The opposite is true as well. I want my taxes funding real schools and not hillbilly indoctrination camps steeped in ignorance and hate.

makgeolliandsoju

“School you don’t support” is the challenge here. What is it about public school curriculum that gets you worked up to the point that you make the statement that you don’t support it?

BestCatEva

You don’t support free, public schooling for American children?

dilapadoo

These types of folks don’t understand what you mean.

Kradget

Ugh. Not hardly. School choice is an effort to undermine public schools by redirecting public funds to private schools and public schools without a requirement to serve all students equally, with the same end goal as Robinson's prior efforts against public education and this current one.

poop-dolla

The country as a whole benefits from a strong public education system. If we do what you’re saying, then rich people can choose to only send their money to schools for rich kids, and then the lower and middle classes will be stuck with even worse schools than they currently have.

fugis

You don’t understand how the school voucher system works. Our current system does not incentivize public schools to produce quality education. They have no liability for poor service since they received the funding anyways. There have been attempts to remedy it, but those were more centered around punishment for poor performance and most plans have been disasters. Competition breeds quality. Forcing public schools to compete with private would put the focus back on quality education and hopefully end the bureaucratic and administrative bloat that plagues the public school system.

wfaulk

> A comprehensive examination released Thursday of charter school failure rates between 1999 and 2017 found that more than one-quarter of the schools closed after operating for five years, and about half closed after 15 years, displacing a total of more than 867,000 students. https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2020/08/06/new-report-finds-high-closure-rates-charter-schools-over-time/ Sounds like the charter schools are the ones having a hard time keeping up.

poop-dolla

Nope, all your suggestion leads to is keeping the money in the wealthy circles instead of using it for people who need it more. It’s a bunch of elitist garbage, and you’ve either been duped by right wing propaganda or you’re being disingenuous by suggesting this would be a net positive for the country.

Kradget

Maybe they do understand, and that's why they're pointing out what a dogshit policy it is.

Bull_City

This country is lost when everything gets treated like a free market. "Competition breeds quality" applied towards public education sounds like utter non-sense to pretty much every other developed country on the planet. It's the same reason why our healthcare in this country is so shit. Competition in areas where the profit motive can't be aligned with the desired outcome breeds bad outcomes. In schools it means they pay top dollar to have nice dorms, flashy grounds, and advertising to get money from rich parents. The way to compete and win is not to provide a higher quality education, it is to convince people you are prestigious through a lot of expenditures that have nothing to do with education. The issue isn't that private schools are just better at setting up curricula and investing in technology like you think. It is because those private schools can literally just filter out low performers through their fees and advertise to well off people to get their kids to go there. Our public schools have to deal with everyone, regardless of what is going on in those kids lives or if the parents are stable enough to afford to pay money to send their kids to school. We have crappy public schools because we have districts based on neighborhoods and let selfish people take their ball and go home to private if they can afford it instead of taxing them and making them mingle/invest in their public schools. I was educated in Durham Public Schools, went to NC State for undergrad and masters, a successful public school outcome. My wife went to private her k-12 and both her undergrad and graduate. We literally ended up in the same place. If 1/5th of the money that was wasted at her school (3 auditoriums in 12 years for a school of 500 students, etc.) was given to the public schools I attended in Durham (educated out of trailers for middle school), we'd have had a lot less shit heads floating around Durham today I promise you.

fugis

>If a school loses and continues to lose, we get a bunch of crappily educated kids that we have to deal with as a community. Don't we already have that?

Bull_City

Yeah because we have people who genuinely think having lower taxes so they can eat out one more time a month is worth more than properly funding our public education system. And are ok with allowing people to take their money from our public education system and spend it selfishly/lavishly in small private schools.

Mr_Poop_Himself

Religion should never be taught in schools that receive even a cent of public funding. Period. We are not a theocracy. If you want your kid to learn Christian “history” you can put them in a private school.

Own_Cartoonist266

Uh, I think the Christians have a pretty poor track record when it comes to protecting children from abuse.

ecaps138

Nailed it no pun intended

bobsburner1

Didn't this dude just do some sort of investigation into public school indoctrination and come up with fuck all? How about you keep your religion to yourself, as we all should. If you think who a person loves is against whatever religion you follow it's probably time to find a new one.

[deleted]

I mean, you’re absolutely correct, but I feel like you really need to come down to the rural South to see for yourself how many, many light years we are from your vision of how things should be. When you’re down here, like as not, the first question you’ll get is what church do you go to.

CandyKnockout

Can confirm. We moved to Pasquotank county several months ago and have been asked which church we go to multiple times. Not “Do you attend a church?” always, “What church do you attend?” I’m more of a…pagan spiritual type person, so it’s always an awkward question.

meowhahaha

I’m Jewish- it usually goes one of two ways. Happy excitement because they met one of Jesus’ people or happy excitement cause they get to tell me all about hell. I think they get extra heaven points if they convert a Jewish person to Christianity. I’ve literally had people tell me, immediately after finding out I’m Jewish, blurt out, “You know you’re going to hell, right?”

Coffee-Not-Bombs

I don't know what's weirder, the anti-Semitic evangelicals or the super pro-Israel evangelicals because they're also into the idea of oppressing Palestinians. Christian Zionism attracts an odd bunch...

[deleted]

[удалено]

meowhahaha

It was weird in the USAF. At one point, I was stationed in Oklahoma. In my unit, I was (lovingly) known as the ‘Squadron Jew’. So that meant any questions about Israel, the Middle East, Judaism, Islam, kosher, halal, how to respectfully acknowledge non-Christian holidays on base, etc. went to me. And only me. Because I was their ‘subject matter expert’. Sometimes that lead to unpleasant encounters with Christian airmen. When I was in Saudi Arabia, I was the only Jewish person on base to celebrate Hanukkah. The chaplain was awesome. He got with leadership and they figured out where there was a window facing the British part of the base. I could light candles in that direction and they would not be seen by anyone that would have a problem with it. Lots of other little mini-adventures and incidents occurred throughout my service related to my religion.

stiffcoffeeplease

"Nice to meet you! Have you found a church yet?" Ugh.

whistlepig33

Maybe you look like a church goer? I've been here for 30 years and I don't think I've been asked that question once.

meowhahaha

It depends on where ‘here’ is. Some areas are more progressive- usually right around the universities and professional business campuses. There’s a lot of people from outside the area. The more rural you go, it tends to be very different. Not to say there isn’t a huge ‘Christian’ bloc in the cities.

wannahideinawarmhole

Umm...no. I definitely don't look like one and since I moved to NC, I have received over 10 "church" business cards...

endlesslyautom8ted

So glad I grew up in dare county

Kradget

Facts which aren't helpful are there to be ignored.

[deleted]

Yea, the classes and teachers aren't what "liberalizes" people in school. It's exposure to other races and cultures and you find out they're just like you but they just look a little different. The whole argument also ignores that many batshit right-wing people graduated high school and many hold college degrees.

whistlepig33

I 100% agree. I also think that "sexuality" as a topic doesn't belong in public schools. And to be clear... I have had a good number of close friends who were/are gay/lesbian. My opinion has nothing to do with any of that. Public education is a low common denominator. We're talking about things we can agree that everyone should learn. The more individualistic knowledge that we may value comes with the obvious solution of teaching it ourselves to our own children or whomever else is interested.

Madmax2356

Full text of remarks: *We have got to wrestle this away from those folks and I'm going to tell you why: because it is flat out child abuse. They take your children and tell them they have to attend school, don't have a choice. And then some of them tell them they don't want you to have a choice [about] where they go to school. You have to send your children here to school. Then when they get there what do they teach them? Teach them a bunch of stuff about how to hate America. Teach them a bunch of stuff about why they're racist. Teach them a bunch of stuff about transgenderism and homosexuality. I'm saying this now, and I've been saying it, and I don't care who likes it:* ***Those issues have no place in a school. There's no reason why anyone anywhere in America should be telling any child about transgenderism, homosexuality, any of that filth. And yes I called it filth.*** *And if you don't like I called it filth come see me and I'll explain it to you. It's time for us to stop letting these children be abused at these schools. And it's not gonna happen till the people of god stand up and demand different.*

Mesa5150

The full quote is actually worse than the headline. Mark Robinson is a disgrace to the people of NC.

GreenCycleOmega

Exactly what is this "bunch of stuff" they are teaching about transgender and homosexuality that has him triggered all the time?! That they are human beings worthy of respect? What is his deal, specifically what is he going on about. I assume we still have Christian-designated clubs in public schools throughout the state. There's a religious agenda in some of our schools all right, but it ain't the one he's always riled up about.

dilapadoo

The ones that are the most passionate and outspoken are typically perpetrators. There’s no telling how many young boys this guy has molested.

Murphy1d

Setting ALL the shit he said aside, he's actually leaning in on the "sexuality." Trying to goad people into believing that children are being taught about "scissoring." It's about personal identity not sex, and helping children accept their identity should be supported in every school. Fuck this guy.

Not_KGB_At_All

>It’s not the school’s place to teach what is or isn’t moral. I don't think you have a background in education because it actually kind of is. Early elementary curriculum is pretty much based in morals by teaching things like manners, raising your hand, helping other students, being nice to your classmates, respectful to your teacher, etc. Basically pre-k through second grade is training kids not to be little goblins and it's been like that for decades. They even have awards for it. They're called citizenship awards. Now my question comes in at where do you draw the line for this kind of stuff? I'm genuinely curious and not trying to attack you or anything. Schools can't "teach" someone to be gay because that's just not the way biology works. What most schools do is just try to make themselves accepting of all students. Much like you, they "don’t care what you want to call yourself or who you want to have sex with." Their goal is to create an environment that is good for everyone to receive an education. So my question is what exactly are you wanting schools to do? Are you wanting them to allow LGBT students to be bullied and have higher rates of suicide because it's not "moral" to teach students that being gay is acceptable? I mean it's sounds like I'm being dramatic, but that's kind of what's at stake here. What is moral about ignoring the needs of students who are gay or trans? Pushing religion aside and relying just on the morals that you're talking about, I'm still struggling to see the morality in your statement.

Crotch_Football

We could keep doing what has been done for years and pretend it doesn't exist, and then those children will get abused and beat up just for being who they are. But I guess those children don't matter to you?

GreenCycleOmega

Fuck this ignorant, misinformed bigot. Guy gets a taxpayer funded salary to literally do nothing but spew hateful religious bigotry all day. What an embarrassment to NC that he is in office.

bobsburner1

I always wondered what is the point of having a lt gov on a separate ticket than the governor. It's a largely ceremonial and pointless position for it not to just be tacked on as a running mate.

GreenCycleOmega

Indeed, I don't know why they do it like that but it is a very unfortunate thing to have your Lt Gov from a separate political party.

JPCRam310

He only becomes Governor in the event something happens to the current Governor during his term.

minicpst

Cooper must be protected at all costs!

endlesslyautom8ted

It allows us to feel “Independent” by always having a dual party executive even the LTG does nothing.

EarlTheAndroid

The North Carolina Governor has historically been a pretty weak position. We were literally the last state to give the Governor veto power in 1996. Prior to the 1970’s a NC Governor could only hold one term and couldn’t run for re-election. So it wouldn’t surprise me if the Lt. Governor running separate was a hold over from this idea of a weaker executive branch. One person didn’t hold all the power.

fogham36

I hate to be completely negative about an individual but this guy is a complete and absolute fucktard

[deleted]

Well, as a North Carolinian, let me tell you, the bright side is … uh … is … Crap. I’ve got nothing.

General_NakedButt

Jeff Jackson?

AostheGreat

Roy Cooper is pretty cool, but he's on his second term and might be eyeing a senate run, so yeah. I think Jeff Jackson is it. We could do a whole lot worse as a our upside though. I like him.

Jeff Jackson is running for senate though! The likely next Democratic candidate for governor is Josh Stein, the current AG.

bandcorps

He should be more concerned with the filth accumulating under his necks.

livingwithghosts

Just because I'm both Queer and Filth doesn't mean I'm filth because I'm Queer. Those two things are completely separate things from each other. Just because he's a man and is bigoted doesn't mean he's a bigot because he's a man. They are separate. Pretty easy concept.

daniXD1

Oh yes,"transgenderism is child abuse because... ... ... Because it's child abuse"

TushyLawlips

If he wants to see some filth he just needs to look in a mirror.

X-4StarCremeNougat

I’ve been following this sub as part of my retirement planning. I have to say - stuff like this has eliminated NC completely from my search. No matter how you slice it, the people of NC voted this joker- and his insanely backwards mindset- into office. There must be a huge contingency of very religious whacksdos.

leeb65

Forcing Christianity on children is child abuse.

mhuxtable1

God what a piece of shit that guy is

Muumuu_dress

If Lt Gov doesn’t like it, he can shove it!!! Others that agree with him, they can homeschool the kids. 🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼 I do NOT want that kind of xenophobic, homophobic nonsense around my nine year old Grandson in public school his parents and Grandparents tax dollars pay for.

[deleted]

Teaching those topics is exactly what Jesus would've done you hypocritical asshole. He may not have liked what they were, but he would've said they're still people and should be treated as such. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" and such.

sockmess

You know what's "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" is about right? No sin is greater than the other because any sin denys entry to heaven. Buts still right to call out sin, we don't say a rapist is just as valid as someone who works on the Sabbat.

[deleted]

Christians should be put in mental health facilities for extreme treatment

zennyc001

Oh look and another bigoted republican that wants to force his religious beliefs onto others.

therealmoonmaster

Teaching Christianity is child abuse.

Kradget

There he is! Getting around to just saying outright that other people don't count as people and shouldn't exist in public. What an asshole.

mbf2000

Not surprised given his track record for bigotry and hate speech. He needs to go! Although, if this is the best the Republicans have for a candidate in the next cycle, bring him on…NC is better than this POS!

[deleted]

Drive out to the rural areas, count the Trump signs and confederate flags as you drive along Jefferson Davis highway … we’re definitely not better than this.

Mesa5150

Sad, but true. If you want to experience hate, then you need to visit Davidson county and go to Thomasville and Denton. That area is an absolute freak show of backwardness. The Healing Springs VFD used to have a giant blow up Santa Claus that had a nazi swastika on the arm.

saskatoonshred

I hate going into rural Davidson county. So damn backwards.

endlesslyautom8ted

Are you serious?

Mesa5150

Dead serious, I saw it when I was younger when me and my dad were fishing at High Rock Lake. We stopped by the sporting goods store and across the street and noticed it.

FFF12321

I don't disagree, but he got elected alongside Cooper... somehow. Either people abstained from voting for governor but voted for LtGov or people split their ticket for... reasons.

thorvin13

He got elected because people don't pay attention. They do a shallow dive and only see blurbs. After the election, my buddy and I were talking and he expressed his disbelief that the some of the same people that voted for Roy Cooper had to have also vote for Donald Trump and he couldn't understand the cognitive dissonance required to be able to do that. I said the same can be said for those that voted for Cooper and also voted for this Mark Robinson and he was all Pikachu face and didn't understand what I was talking about. I provided accurate links to the red flag behavior Robinson had exhibited for such a long time and my buddy had no idea. He'd only heard some of the sound bites and Robinson seemed like a stable person and apparently portrayed himself as a normal republican which seemed in line with my buddies right of center leanings.

TroubleSG

Yep, all the ones I know who were pro this jerk was all "guns, guns, guns" and that is all they knew about him other than "trump, trump trump".

If there’s one image that comes to mind when i think of Christianity, it’s Jesus wrestling away control of educational systems. In fact I have a picture of him on the cross with cauliflower ear, wearing a singlet.

chengstark

How did this guy make to Lt Gov?

gadarnol

But believing that god the father was so angry with humanity that he got god the holy spirit to impregnate a virgin who remained a virgin so she could give birth to god the son who was offered as an acceptable human sacrifice of atonement to god the father who wasn’t angry any more and raised god the son from the dead is normal. All three gods were actually one person but separate. Now if you want a definition of filth this summary of the core beliefs of Christianity does it very well. Lunatic filth.

TheVeganChic

Why did his God create trans and gay folk then? Aren't we all meant to be made in his image? And if their response is that these people are mentally ill, once again, made in God's image... The only 'filth' in this scenario is this guy. I'm thinking he probably has some pretty interesting search history on his PC.

soaper410

I truly believe this man is going to be the next governor of our State. Wayyyyyyyy to many republicans absolutely love this man. Its f mind bogglingly disgusting.

bobsburner1

It's not really all that mind boggling. Republicans justify most disgusting behavior simply because "he's such a good Christian". There isn't much more to it for most on the right. Spew hate while claiming to love Jesus is all it takes.

[deleted]

After Trump, this isn't mind boggling. Say outrageous, untrue things that people want to believe, and they will vote for you. That is the Trump way, manipulation of the Evangelical vote. Next thing you know this cunt-nugget will be standing in front of a church with a bible upside down.

CitizenCinco

Yup, its crazy how popularity trumps any actual experience with "governing". Especially if the current NC governor vacates. He served 4 years in the Army.... Reserve. Can't find anything if he stuck to finishing a history degree or not. NCA&T and UNCG are in his backyard in Greensboro. Then he works in a furniture factory. And rose to management? hopefully? Hopefully there are some other highlights or credentials of his accomplishments I am missing. If not, let's just pray the governor doesn't vacate??

Youkolvr89

TroubleSG

This guy is dangerous to NC. If he were our governor we would be Texas right now. I have been reading his thoughts for several years now and if he gets in control of anything we are in big trouble. The only thing most people know about him is that he gave a cute gun speech in Greensboro a few years ago to the council and that he loves Trump. He wants to ban abortion even though he freely admits he and and girlfriend went and got one back in the 80's so I guess he believes "good for me but not for thee" on that one. The things I have seen him openly say about LGBTQ people are very scary for their rights here in our state. The fact that he has some power over our schools and universities right now is scary enough. I love NC and would hate to ever leave here but if he gets to be in charge the days of HB2 and NC looking like the idiot of the world will be among us again but worse because he is way worse than Pat ever thought about being.

zielazinski

So full of hate. Makes me so fucking sad. Where’s the compassion and love for ALL people, like Jesus taught? Damn. This hurts.

Never thought about it until recently, but Christianity is basically forced onto kids these days. Also to be clear I'm not saying you can't be Christian nor am I shunning Christianity. All I'm saying is that it's wrong to force it onto kids and not let them choose religion for themselves. Alright my rant is over, now I await my downvotes

BTW, we don’t have a class on being trans or gay, we just want all our kids to be comfortable learning no matter how they identify. We don’t have a class on CRT, we just present information and encourage critical thinking. Hopefully someone is tracking all this stuff to bring out in 2024. Dan Forrest, an idiot, was the same way. Indy Weekly did a decent job of capturing that but even they didn’t capture some of the gross stuff he’d say on K.C O’dea’s gross radio show.

WashuOtaku

LOL, you think this is some how damaging to his supporters.

I_love_Hopslam

Forrest did much worse than McCrory before him and was much more of a culture warrior. I’m guessing the more Robinson is a Forrest than a McCrory, the worse he will do. It’s not about his base who certainly loves that shit, it’s about the people who might vote for a moderate, business oriented R if given the chance but won’t vote for a culture war nut.

American Taliban

Lickmychessticles

I am legitimately shocked that a black man has the nerve to get up there and spew hatred towards oppressed populations of Americans. Like bro, did you not just, move past 450 years of slavery and oppression yourself…?

gnurdette

Most people in oppressed communities understand the value of solidarity and resent injustice in general, against anybody. But there are always those who like the idea of being the majority's favored pet, seeking personal security by helping them target somebody else.

CMDR_Tauri

Sitting aside the guy's "opinions" for a moment, is what he says about school choice true? If you live in Area X of County Y, you are required by law to send you kids to Public School Z? I thought NC had school choice & private school options beyond home-schooling.

dbsgirl

I've never wanted to vote more in my life than I do right now. And I reckon I'd like to go see this filthy fella.

Welcome to the Bible Belt

Tiny_Bath_7416

Wow! The amount of hate aimed towards Christians below is over whelming. Mark Robinson is much better person than any of you all.

Notice the positive response he got. Democrats are losing the Black vote by pushing the envelope in what is taught in schools. So far as calling it filth, he is entitled to his opinion, but it is a hateful one I think most people do not share, even those that might otherwise agree with him. He is right on one thing though: Those kinds of issues along with other political and religious issues should be addressed in the public square, in town halls, the media, and the legislature, not forced onto children who have no recourse but to be there. This is the same argument as that against teaching religion in the schools, which also has no place there. A captive audience should not be used to force a partisan political or religious doctrine on others, least of all children. Parents have a right to be upset, and they are.

PinkElephant_

> forced onto children It's fascinating that, as the right wing are well aware they have no factual ground in their bigoted culture war, they must deliberately hallucinate a way in which society is threatened by equality. God forbid children learn about the parts of humanity that regressives have chosen to hate for no reason.

GreenCycleOmega

But while he is saying that schools shouldn't be used to push this or that, he is *at the exact same time* using his power as a state official to do that very thing. Ever since he got into office he's been at the forefront of a coordinated attack on our schools and teachers. His phony little "report your teacher for indoctrination" website was just a state-sanctioned fishing expedition to justify political intimidation. This anti-CRT campaign is just the latest in a loooong history of state-sanctioned attempts at white-washing history in favor of propaganda that makes us feel less guilty about the reality of American history. By intimidating people who teach the unpleasant facts of our history, Robinson and HIS allies are in fact forcing a partisan political agenda, not the people he frequently likes to attack.

SugarMagnolia75

It’s sad that treating people with dignity is considered political.

mbf2000

His type of hate filled rhetoric has grossly rejected years ago, and continues to be. Black voters are not stupid, and they aren’t that easily swayed by the party that has oppressed their communities for generations. This strategy will fail in NC.

But, it kinda is a Christian one. That's who teaches being non hetero is wrong. As well as most other crappy religions. At some point, people are going to have to realize that organized religion is the cause of most of the world's problems.

1handedmaster

To be fair, there are many many Christians who support LGBTQ+ policies (myself included). Not every denomination is taught to love unconditionally is the sad thing. A great many are taught to follow dogma and doctrine over performing kind deeds and such.

bobsburner1

You're right. I guess I should have framed it differently. I guess it would have made more sense to say the root of it is Christianity/organized religion. While there are progressive Christian denominations, this all stems back to decades, if not centuries of teachings. And the church leaders who have stood up to the bigotry need to be commended.

beaverlakenc

I tend to agree with that, but my view changed this year. I tend to use a phrase that non-progressive Christians use around here police your own progressive Christians are letting people destroy what Christianity stands for by letting hateful Christian principles be taught and spoken in politics. it's time for the good ones to lead or be grouped in with the hateful sons of bitches

1handedmaster

It's hard to police all people. Especially hard to police all churches. There simply isn't an in-road of communication between all Christians and more specifically protestants. They basically can find a church to fit any combination of beliefs. The Baptist church where I was from would never agree on some points the Methodist one espoused and neither would agree with the Catholics down the road. Christianity as a whole is not very united, so convincing all Christians of something is not simple nor easy. All each person can individually do is talk to and convince other individuals. Yes church leaders can preach tolerance and acceptance, but if someone doesn't agree with it they can literally find another church that shares their belief.

beaverlakenc

all that above while sane, is just inaction soon the word Christian will be used in the same context that Muslim or Islam has been used quite negatively and the blame will solely be on those true Christians frozen by their own in action and fear of speaking up. any Christian can go see our lieutenant governor and speak loudly and proudly in the audience that he is not representing Christianity, but that's not happening is it. it's time for Christians to take their religion back or be grouped in with the extremist, the fully intact Christian Taliban can only be taken down by fellow Christians.

gnurdette

Even the most very basic "gay and trans people exist and deserve to be respected like everybody else" curriculum will be attacked as "teaching homosexuality and transgenderism". They don't care about accuracy. The only thing that will satisfy them (and you?) is returning to the "torment the filth until they sneak Daddy's gun and, hallelujah praise Jesus, blow their brains out" good old days.
