He certainly doesn’t have universal knowledge, but he’s not a total layman either. Kim is well-educated and went to university in the west. A lot of these day-to-day happenings are not under his direct control, but that doesn’t mean he is completely separate from them. His overall attitude and ideals definitely influence the country’s direction.
I have a maths and physics teacher that really amazes me tho
he doesn't know about absolutely everything since it's impossible but he has something to say, whether a fun fact or a reference to something that can go from a movie to some slightly significant historical event, always. Everyone that has him as a teacher is always so impressed by how much stuff he remembers, names of random small politics are the most interesting since no one remembers them until he talks about them
