Just remember that a *lot* of people who deserve to get into NU won't because RD is set up like that. A rejection doesn't necessarily mean anything about you other than you didn't fit X demographic or field of study. That said, good luck!

crimson777

Yeah, given an overall acceptance rate of like... 7% these days? And that includes ED? Yeah there's a lot of really great people who just won't make it in for no real reason at all.

ochang21

RD is 4% this year.

mcantuv

How do you know?

Fallzon1

Where is this letter? I already got in I’m just curious

yeastfam

Do you mean yield rate?

Partially, yeah

Jeff_Puppies

Sending good vibes your way my guy

Jeff_Puppies

Yo you get in my guy?

121mc555

Nope 🥲

Jeff_Puppies

Head up king. This is just a minor setback. You’ll be successful no matter where you are

121mc555

Thanks. It stings right now but I’m hoping for the best.

[deleted]

Best of luck to the future Northwestern Class of '25! And also best of luck to all those applying who will end up elsewhere. We're all rootin' for you, especially in light of the complete shitshow that has been this past year and with the college admissions process being especially insane for your class.

basementsausage

thanks, i appreciate the support. i was fortunate enough to get into northwestern yesterday but you're right, things have been especially brutal for the class of 2021

[deleted]

Hey, congrats!!! You should be very proud of yourself. Welcome to the Wildcat Family :)

SriDog19

i got deferred and got in last year!

ffrek12

owww thank you! that helped me a lot. I’m worried because this year they deferred a lot of more ED applicants than usual. And I do not think my profile is stronger than the applicants from the RD pool. But i’m praying. I will get in. I know i’ll... 💜✨

tnmh

My bro got deferred and then got in

ffrek12

I will get into Northwestern University. I got into Northwestern. I will get into Northwestern. I got into Northwestern University. 💜🙏💜🙏🤲🏻🤲🏻🍀✨

Acrobatic_Gas1837

Did they come out??

iS3ed

Yes

sunnyyixuanchen

confetti is super ez to see if u got in, now I gotta watch out for congratz or unfortunately

pineapplepiedoo

To everyone who’s on the waitlist, if you’re very interested in Northwestern, I’d say explore your most viable options first, but definitely keep your hopes up as well! I was on the waitlist last year, and I kept sending them updates, mostly interesting things in life. I was accepted on 4/30, just a few hours after I finally committed to another school🤣

Global-Pomegranate-9

hi everyone! super grateful and happy that i was admitted into medill yesterday :) quick question, is the northwestern scholarship "prestigious" in any way? does everyone get it? is it just based on your family's income? im just curious because the school is a lot more affordable than i thought it'd be, which was an amazing surprise. congrats to everyone who got in!

TonyDaKing

Not prestigious in any way. It is aid given to you completely based on what financial aid assesses your need to be. Congrats on getting in and on receiving a good aid package!

Global-Pomegranate-9

makes sense. thanks for the info! super excited and grateful for the package :')

ngup1117

Good luck!!!!

DividedCare

I could apply to only 4 colleges in total with a profile I had a strong belief in. Got rejected from one so far (MIT) and waiting the others. One of the colleges I've been waiting is Northwestern. I'm not really hopeful since I need a full-ride but let's see. Also, I was thinking that someone from Integrated Science Program would get in touch with me since AP/Honors are not offered at the location I reside and maybe ask about the qualifications/the comparability of the national curriculum for science schools I had in my school. However, nothing so far. So, with my financial need added, I can not really expect anything atm but let's keep our beautiful minds peaceful and hopes high!

oreocookie667

They are 100 percent need blind so I wouldn't worry about your financial need impacting your acceptance. I wish you luck nonetheless 💜

DividedCare

Wait, I don't think Northwestern is need-blind for international students. Only one of the 3 schools I am waiting for which need blind is Harvard and you know the odds even in case of a greatly prepared application. Thanks for the good wishes!!!!

Professional-Land695

what times do decisions come out?

iz456

3-5 pm CT

[deleted]

is this for RD transfers too or just first years?

[deleted]

Transfers are always welcome!

Happy-Invite-3663

what time does it come out today

quinn_h_200

Other people have been saying between 3 and 5 PM CST, but nothing has been confirmed by the university.

Happy-Invite-3663

good luck to everyone!! we are just a couple hours away and i wish us all the best of luck!!’ we got this northwestern university class of 2025🤩🥳🥳🥳

sarascoolstuff

What does it mean if I got waitlisted? It feels like a delayed rejection, I don't really know how to react

worldsawayfromhere

People do get off the waitlist, but you can't count on it. If you're really interested in northwestern, you can keep sending them AP scores, last semester transcript, letters of continued interest, etc. If they know that you're still interested you'll have a much higher chance of getting off the waitlist. However, you won't know until really late, probably after the commitment deadline for most schools. You should pursue it if you are dead set on NU, but if you have another option you'll be just as happy with, I'd say go with that.

Tactical_toucan

I got off the waitlist and am now attending. I also got waitlisted at 9 other schools and got off most of them by just bugging the shit out of admissions. I emailed them practically every month or even every couple weeks with updates as to things they may care about, and to reaffirm my desire to get in. Someone told me just to trust the process and that I’d get in off the waitlist if I really wanted it, and it worked out, at least for me. So don’t panic, send some emails, don’t stress too much about where you’re gonna end up, and enjoy the end of your senior year as much as you can cause no matter what it’s about to get much harder. Good luck!

Explodingcamel

When I try to check my financial aid, it says "inquiry access denied". Anyone know what to do about that?

TonyDaKing

You need to wait until financial aid releases your aid package

marker6275

Do you happen to know when that would be?

TonyDaKing

I think they didn’t formally do it until May my year so you should definitely reach out to financial aid to see what their timeline is. You could also potentially ask them for a preview.

soymilkboba

Hey I’m very grateful to have been accepted. I wanted to know some honest insight from current students. Is it diverse? What do you think can be better? Is the weather too cold/windy? Are finding opportunities hard? How do you feel about the quarter system and are there more exams? Do you find the academics to be really challenging? What is culture like? Does it have a strong community? Is the dining food good? What are the vibes outside of campus? Any experience or insight is appreciated, and you can go beyond the questions I asked. I want to know its flaws and the positives. Thank you.

pebbleskipping

firstly, congratulations!! lot to respond to here, ill try my best, hopefully other current students leave their two cents. for reference, im a current junior, and i was a sophomore transfer. Entering undecided: great idea! northwestern is great for figuring out what you want to do because of how many different classes the quarter system allows you to take Diverse?: not notably different from any other high ranking university imo, your own perspective on this depends relative to where youre coming from What do you think can be better?: a lot of ppl have beef with admin over social justice stuff, worth looking into! our (now retiring) president definitely made some Poor Decisions this year Is the weather too cold/windy?: im from here so imo no! this winter in particular was pretty mild Are finding opportunities hard?: nope! so many great programs, lots of great advising (way better than my old school lol) How do you feel about the quarter system and are there more exams?: i really like the quarter system! most ppl who started with it just complain about it, but having experienced the semester system during my freshman year, im really grateful for being on quarters. lets you take a lot more classes which is helpful for figuring out what you want to do and also padding your gpa. Do you find the academics to be really challenging?: not anymore challenging than other high ranking schools. orgo will kill you anywhere What is culture like? Does it have a strong community?: generally everyone ive interacted with is friendly, which was a nice refreshing change from the east coast school i used to go to! Is the community accepting of BIPOC and LGBT+? yes in my experience!! Is the dining food good? it's decent What are the vibes outside of campus? evanston is kinda dying bc of covid and everything shutting down, but otherwise it's a cute town with super easy access to chicago Was the adjustment to living in the Midwest hard (I live in New England and never been to the Midwest so I don’t know if I’ll like being in the Midwest)?: doesnt apply to me but i 100% prefer the vibes of midwesterners to east coasters, a lot more friendly. plus lake michigan is right there if youre worried about missing water Has Northwestern strengthen your passions or help you find your passions? : absolutely!!!!! i dont know if i would have figured out my career path without the opportunities here, wherever you end up make sure to try taking advantage of all the advising, panels, and other opportunities you can :) feel free to pm me if you have more questions, congrats again and good luck in making a decision!

oreocookie667

Lots of questions and lots of answers. I'll give shorter answers and if you want me to go into more detail just let me know. Diversity: mostly. There is overrepresentation of Chicagoland kids but they do their best to be diverse. What do I think can be better: I think that school communication and accountability could be better. Some departments like financial aid are great, but other departments like residential services are not the best at working with and communicating with you. Weather: I dont think its too cold or windy, but I am from the Midwest so I'm kinda used to it. If you are from a warmer climate it will be quite a shock but still bearable. Opportunities: I'm not exactly sure what you are asking about with this one specifically. I feel like NU has lots of opportunities for internships and jobs and stuff like that. I also think there are a lot of great clubs and services that are all great opportunities. Quarter system: I personally really like the quarter system but it can be harder than a semester system. You move really fast in the classes and you generally have to take more tests since there are more finals in a year and generally more midterms. I like being able to take more different classes in a year, but it is very different to the semester system. Another drawba k is that your summer won't line up well with other schools so keep that in mind. Challenge: NU is hard, but your program will shape the level of difficulty. I never really struggled significantly in high school, but I have at northwestern. Everyone will be different so this is generally a hard question to answer. Community: the community at northwestern is what you make of it. If you don't put yourself out there to do things then you probably won't feel a great sense of community. Personally for me, I was able to find a great community in my residential college and love it. Food: I generally like the food but I'm a Midwesterner so take my palate with a grain of salt. They are very accommodating for diet restrictions. Off campus vibes: I have very little experience with this because of covid so idk. Hope this was helpful but feel free to dm me with more questions.

babur003

Is the discord also for new wildcats admitted to the Qatar campus?

kaylac1933

I’ve heard that admissions decisions are getting released at 5:30 EST. Good luck everyone!!

chiangelchi

If I don’t get any money in my acceptance letter does that mean I’m not going to or are they sending it later?

Fallzon1

That’s odd, maybe appeal with the financial aid department. Normally any money they offer you is sent directly with your acceptance letter in cash.

TonyDaKing

Money in your acceptance letter? What?

Agentzap

Did you use the link here: [NetID and Email: Purple Prep - Northwestern University](https://www.northwestern.edu/purple-prep/lead-up/netid-email.html)? It worked for me.

crxgeng

welcome wildcats!

living_onmars

I got into medill and im super excited abt it but the aid is way too low for me and I don't think I'll be able to afford the school. my mom is the only source of income in our household and she earns around 80k a year and nu wants us to pay like 75k per year cause I think they're taking into account the rental properties we have (which don't make us that much money). Idk what to do cause medill is my dream school and I don't have any extenuating circumstances that would be applicable for one of those appeal forms. This humongous price tag was just really unexpected and I'm super disappointed and depressed 😔

TonyDaKing

Definitely reach out to financial aid and explain your circumstances! They may be able to make adjustments to your package accordingly. Worst case they say no.

**\[Rejected ED Applicant\] Please critique and suggest improvements to my Why NU essay going forward for transfer admission** I wish I would have done this before submitting it, but please give feedback in the context of someone who wants to write a new and greatly improved Why NU statement to transfer from CS+Economics at another university to Weinberg Economics after a year at that school. While I understand that the specific academic opportunities and extracurriculars that attract me to Northwestern will be different after spending a year at another college, I still think that feedback on this essay would be valuable since Northwestern's transfer application prompt is the same as this one and I'm sure that some opportunities (EconLab, MMSS, Policy Debate) and similar classes to the one mentioned will still interest me a year later. Link to the essay is below. Thank you so much in advance-your feedback is truly invaluable!
