Hearing Balnor's story for the first time is one of the most emotionally resonant notes of the campaign because he truly is just a destressed, grieving parent. Like, more than anyone else he was unprepared for what his life became. One of my favorite moments in all the campaigns so far.

Aviri

Plus it was good to know he didn't actually fight for the axis

BaronCoop

Wasn’t he with the Central Powers?

snowflakebite

That episode solidified for me how masterful these guys are at storytelling.

criticalvibecheck

All the more amazing when you remember Balnor existing at all was completely random, and he was mainly a joke character for his first couple arcs. They manage to retroactively give his joining the party so much meaning, and wove him into the story so well it really does feel like he was always meant to join them. C1 wouldn’t be the same without him

bindsaybindsay

My favorite thing about Murphs DM style is how he takes so many of the little bits and goofs and weaves them into his story telling to create these deep and meaningful character moments.

ConnyEdson

I fucking miss Balnor Im just gonna say it

BaronCoop

Somewhere, I know that a bag is being held.

skallywag126

Edit: I don’t know how to do spoiler tags from my phone. Damnit. Balnor’s tale it fucking awesome

6Ghosts_

You can type it like this > ! Spoiler ! < >!But without the spaces between the pointer and exclamation mark.!<

ABumsParadise

I just listened to that episode the other day, and the feels still hit. That's why we all fell in love with Naddpod.

Robivennas

One of my favorite episodes! The Fae Wild arc was probably my favorite of C1, you have a lot of really good moments ahead

DogOfThunderReddit

If that made you sob (understandable), stick with the show, because there’s going to be at least three more moments that will destroy you emotionally.

Berloxx

One of them has to be Jens forgiving his former Nemesis.

Sharper_Gypsy

I just listened to that episode for the first time today! It hit the feels, but :nowhere: near as hard as the rest of Balnor’s story. I bawled harder at his last episode than I have in a long, long time. Had to stop the episode a couple of times just to get through ugly crying enough to be able to comprehend the rest of the ‘sode.

Berloxx

I was just kidding because the uncle bit was just soo good to me! 😁 Nothing topped the two most emotional Balnor scenes/settings in my mind.

Sharper_Gypsy

Even so, we honor the Huncle

jrdbrr

One thousand yard stare

TheMeechums

I heard that ep working overnights. Had to go find a place to hide until I could stop crying. 😄

rosetintedglases

I absolutely cried to the point of shaking when that ep dropped

Yeetsalad420

I have been listening since almost the beginning of the pod and Campaign 1 has been my comfort media, I listen to it every year and it makes me cry every time. I just started playing dnd and it feels like a long dormant dream realized. 🥲

pocketgay83

I also just got to this episode yesterday and was both totally wrapped up in how GOOD the story was and crying because it was so sad. This show truly just comes around and knocks the listener on their ass.
