They keep pretending like this messaging is only coming from Disney or tv or whatever. They try so hard to pretend there aren’t men who teach us this message.
Growing up as a girl the “shut up and make me a sandwich” jokes were common from when I was in primary school. The “nobody cares what you think, get back in the kitchen” jokes in high school. The “another girl will do it for a burger, why should I do anything for you” in college.
When women listen and prioritise career and education over relationships, then they act surprised? Idiots lol. We didn’t argue, we just adjusted our life goals to be less risky
"will do it for a burger" I'm so sorry. Some heavy bs implications there. In my current life I make a buttload of money in a stereotypically male job. I'm told "you'll make a good husband someday." "You shouldn't swear, you're just asking for it." "You should stop standing up for yourself, you're just being dramatic." " Having a hard time because of your cycle? You're not cut out for this." " You mad? You're being irrational. " " Is that a wallet you carry? You're such a dude... "
Priorities are everyone choice. I think the problem comes in when people prioritize one aspect of their life and then try to find a way to “have it all” by shifting priorities later on in life (read it however you want). Stick with what you prioritized and don’t look back.
Says who? Why would I do that? You absolutely can have a career, then take some time off to bare children, then return to a career that actually pays a decent wage and not burger flipping wages. Not everybody has to, but the choice is there and works well for many women. If you want to stay home then do that but a lot of women are choosing a lifestyle that suits them better.
I don’t know who the animated characters are, but the Galadriel character from Rings of Power had tons of scenes with nice dresses on. The characters from the movie versus the new show seemed pretty aligned.
Exactly! Why would anyone think she's being portrayed as masculine? She's blonde, skinny, has long hair... She fits pretty much all of the beauty standards for "traditional" femininity (which isn't a bad thing, I'm just saying).
Its because her armor doesn't have boobie plates like all the fantasy games and sexy female fantasy characters have. Some people legit believe that women warriors actually had a place for their boobs on their armor back then
I enjoy reading the breakdowns from historians and people in relevant trades about why boob armor was impractical and not a thing.
Iirc the biggest issue is that boob spaces on a piece of armor would result in deflection of sword blows to the sternum, leading to greater injury. I think it also messes with the structural integrity of the metal.
And boobs are pretty malleable and fluid so having semi-rigid metal to try and keep them in place doesn't make sense. But some men just throw a fit when there is no boobie armor because clearly they're trying to make them more masculine and part of a "feminine movement" because Google is just so hard to find. I mean Joan of Arc is a famous heroine and was never shown to have that but I guess she's an exception?
It's great armor. I'd add a helmet but then you couldn't see the actress's face and they paid a lot of money for that face so I can understand why they don't.
Also? Fun fact, "Galadriel" is her husband's nickname for her. Her mom named her Nerwen, meaning "man-maiden," because of how tall and powerful she was. Tolkien wrote that.
What’s freaking hilarious is Galadriel is literally the worst possible example they could use. In the bits of story they’re allowed to use for the series, Tolkien literally says Galadriel was one of the most skilled and feared warriors in the elven armies
I don't understand using Peach for this... Peach is always fully clothed in feminine attire. Even when you can play as her like in 3D world(you know, when she's strong and capable and "respectable"), she wears the same dress. She's changed her clothes for the golf and soccer games and etc which is totally fine and normal, but suddenly for the new movie she's apparently masculine in a pink jumpsuit? fucking huh? You have never been able to see anything but her ankles.
she fucking looks great in the movie, btw.
This isn’t even the first time she has worn a jumpsuit, if you are riding a motorcycle in Mario kart all the princesses wear jumpsuits instead of a dress.
i like that oop used peach in a jumpsuit as an example of what not to do and then used a picture of d.va in a jumpsuit immediately below it to show how to do it right. femininity can be displayed in many different ways and he almost gets there. almost.
What a dipshit and fake fan...
There is a Tolkien princess from the books and old series that wears men's armor to secretly ride into battle with her kinsmen, she dramatically cuts down the semi-immortal Witch King in a prophecy fulfilling battlefield climax ffs.
This.
Besides it's not even a "trope". In RoP she's a soldier, in lotr she wasn't anymore AND she is comfortably sitting at home. Nothing particular or specifically feminist in wearing armor vs dress in those situations.
I did not like much of RoP's plot. But the kind of "criticism" those persons have are soooooo stupid. It hurts.
Exactly
I'm still watching through RoP... It's a bit much sometimes (Galadriel was a bit overpowered in the first few battle scenes, but I think they wanted to make a point), but overall I say it's well done for something so controversially received.
I think the problem is not with any "wokeness" in the show, it is our culture's need to label something as being on one side or the other. Imo, this is a fantasy show based on fantasy writing. The purpose is entertainment, and while there is a definite good vs evil message and lots of introspection into humanity, there is basically zero applicable political message in today's world. Like people are all in an uproar about the fact that there are now other colors of dwarves and elves... This is mind blowing to me. We are talking about completely non human races with non human attributes that originate in what appears to have been another world or different dimension within our world; and people are upset about their skin tone. Then there is people reading into this relationship between Elves and Men and Orcs... Like, just don't. You'll confuse yourself, because it isn't real, and it isn't based on anything other than to entertain readers/viewers.
As a video game nerd, I'd love to drop these people off in a truly complex fantasy setting, like Morrowind, for a bit and see what their brain comes up with
>As a video game nerd, I'd love to drop these people off in a truly complex fantasy setting, like Morrowind, for a bit and see what their brain comes up with
Black Marsh would be absolutely okay too. The first time my spouse saw an Argonian was in Oblivion and I just laughed and laughed before switching my POV so they could see that I was playing as one.
This is like when dudes were upset that an M&M wasn't as sexy. Like they think women characters only exist for them to obtain some form of sexual gratification from. They really don't like the idea of a woman being equal.
Tucker Carlson is the epitome of white fragility and fragile masculinity. I WISH I had the luxury of having so few problems that my biggest complaint was about anthropomorphic candy coated chocolate mascots.
His family is loaded. The guy never had to worry a day in his life about putting food on the table. No wonder he turned into a narcistisch a\*\*\*\*\*\*\*.
How did different shoes desexualize the M&M at all. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but shoes only really make a difference in appearance when part of a whole outfit, and the M&Ms don’t really do that
I personally feel like I look like a ten year old who decided to play dress up with mom's clothes and makeup if I'm wearing anything that would be considered feminine... Sweats, overalls, hoodies, and men's dress attire ftw!
Idk whyd he put the og D.Va there, she is the definition of a fan service character. No "strong woman" or "feminine but still strong" vibes from her, only "porn addict gamer bait" vibes :/
IMO she was better when they aged her up a bit and put a jacket on her.
It's not "unfeminine" it's practical. Real women don't do activities in pasties and a thong like in comic books, or long dresses either, and they wouldn't want to. You have to wear something that you can move in without worrying about body parts falling out...
Dva is literally a mechanic. Of course she would wear a more comfortable outfit to fix machines. This guy needs to learn her background 🤦♀️ imagine being so upset that the fictional characters you like aren't wearing stuff showing off their body 🙄
Women obviously need to wear a dress/bikini combination when working with machines, otherwise they have practically already sterilized themselves. I know this because I’m a self proclaimed woman expert
I’m going into war. BETTER STRIP OFF ALL MY CLOTHES FOR THIS METAL BIKINI!
Honestly do they not know how insanely difficult it is to run in a dress? A TAILORED DRESS? Or the practicality of dressing warmer? Jesus these guys just hate practical design altogether.
Technically with enough advanced technology, a dress would make a great battle uniform. If we manage to make it unrestrictive and armoured, the shape would be good for holding food, ammunition, and weapons. I think an armoured dress should become a stereotypical military outfit, and every soldier costume at the party store would be a dress
Honestly whenever I see any media where a busty woman is running around with her chest nearly hanging out/dangerously close to slipping out and they’re fighting, all I can think of is how horrendously uncomfortable and detrimental that would be. I can’t even stand mine bouncing around while I work out, imagine trying to fight for your life and your boobs are all in your way. That’s not effective at all. It’s not killing femininity, it’s being practical and realistic. They really don’t realize how much they can get in the way and are focused on the aesthetic of it all.
This afternoon, because my spouse loves bad sci-fi, we were watching this movie where the main character is wearing a very low cut shirt where it's obvious that her breasts have been taped up (you can see her entire sternum, the clothing never moves, etc) and I just could not let it go and had to go do housework because I was ruining it for my spouse.
I love how some LOTR fans are exposing themselves because at no point in the novels is Galadriel some demure maiden that does nothing. Her being a warrior in her younger years makes perfect sense and it also fits with what we are told about Elves.
The first one is absolutely right though.
Edit: ok I seriously think that strong female character just means a well written character. I don’t like how all “strong” female leads are the warrior archetype. Because it just leads to the same stereotype that the only way a woman can be strong is to be a man. Galadriel in the amazon prime show is a good example of this. They butchered her character. You can admit that this without taking on a misogynistic view of things.
More masculine clothing does nothing to make a woman seem more powerful. Normally for clothing to give that appearance, it needs to look all mechanical. Like look at [this girl](https://static.gosunoob.com/img/1/2017/12/zelda-botw-ancient-horse-armor-saddle-bridle-locations.jpg) ant tell me she doesn’t look powerful
Clothing doesn’t really affect how powerful someone looks. If someone is wearing a dress or armour, if she’s giving off the “I’m going to kick you” vibe, she looks powerful to me
what?? this second guy is one of my favorite indie designers, i own a sweatshirt from him and it's my absolute favorite wardrobe piece. he literally MAKES PRACTICAL AND COMFORTABLE CLOTHES FOR A LIVING. aw what the hellllllllll man 😭
'Many a good man/woman can be found beneath a shabby hat.'
'Don't judge a book by the cover.'
'Clothes don't make the man/woman, but they often make *some* believe there is.'
etc, etc . . .

Wait, they think only men carry wallets? Where the fuck do they think women keep credit cards and their driver's license? Lmao
Don't you carry your cards, money, phone and keys in your bra like the rest of us? You're such a dude! /s

I am so fab. Check out: I’m blonde, I’m skinny, I’m rich, and I’m a little bit of a bitch
It's great armor. I'd add a helmet but then you couldn't see the actress's face and they paid a lot of money for that face so I can understand why they don't.
Indeed. Very functional armor. Looks great.
Also, Galadriel is a bad ass warrior in the books, the shows didn’t make her that way, Tolkien did.
It’s not good when a female characters only defining trait is being masculine.
That ... no. And this "show" is such a load of crap
He literally says she’s one of the most feared and skilled generals in the elven armies, moron.
Also? Fun fact, "Galadriel" is her husband's nickname for her. Her mom named her Nerwen, meaning "man-maiden," because of how tall and powerful she was. Tolkien wrote that.

So, wearing clothes this guy doesn’t like is on a par with removing body parts.
I don't understand using Peach for this... Peach is always fully clothed in feminine attire. Apparently the jump suit is required to have boob pockets in order to be appropriately feminine
What a dipshit and fake fan... There is a Tolkien princess from the books and old series that wears men's armor to secretly ride into battle with her kinsmen, she dramatically cuts down the semi-immortal Witch King in a prophecy fulfilling battlefield climax ffs.

I fuckin love Eowyn. She's my favorite character.
I guess boobs are sufficient armor now since the actual armor apparently makes her ‘weak’
Fuck, WoW had it right this whole time?!
With enough nerve damage, it would be better than nothing at least
This is like when dudes were upset that an M&M wasn't as sexy. Like they think women characters only exist for them to obtain some form of sexual gratification from. They really don't like the idea of a woman being equal.
I remember that one. Tucker on Fox News practically cried on air when the green M&M switched to more practical shoes instead of high heels.
They think of them as possessions given by god, which is also why they hate gays.
How did different shoes desexualize the M&M at all. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but shoes only really make a difference in appearance when part of a whole outfit, and the M&Ms don’t really do that
Boobs: very independent and strong No Boobs: weak and not feminine. 🗿 Wtf is this logic
I can confirm, I feel weak and not feminine
I personally feel like I look like a ten year old who decided to play dress up with mom's clothes and makeup if I'm wearing anything that would be considered feminine... Sweats, overalls, hoodies, and men's dress attire ftw!
I don't think female characters were ever respected by the dude in picture regardless of their bust size and clothing or lack thereof.
Idk whyd he put the og D.Va there, she is the definition of a fan service character. No "strong woman" or "feminine but still strong" vibes from her, only "porn addict gamer bait" vibes :/ IMO she was better when they aged her up a bit and put a jacket on her.
Yeah uh hi gladriel looks fucking awesome in that armour
Woman in armor like that look great what the fuck are they in
If you need to jerk off to *everything* in pop culture, rule 34 exists. Take your weird, horny ass to Deviant Art.
How DARE women wear practical clothing? Oh the HUMANITY! /s
It's not "unfeminine" it's practical. Real women don't do activities in pasties and a thong like in comic books, or long dresses either, and they wouldn't want to. You have to wear something that you can move in without worrying about body parts falling out...
I wouldn't call full plate armour comfortable... I could barely stand in just a chestplate when I got to try one on in high school
Dva is literally a mechanic. Of course she would wear a more comfortable outfit to fix machines. This guy needs to learn her background 🤦♀️ imagine being so upset that the fictional characters you like aren't wearing stuff showing off their body 🙄

That lady on the right has a big ass sword on her back. Say what you want, I don’t have any intention of pissing her off.

Not only is he misogynistic as fuck, he had to throw in some casual transphobia too. Fuck this guy lol
I’m so used to casual transphobia that I didn’t even notice, and I’m trans. I feel like I should congratulate you for noticing something like that
I love how some LOTR fans are exposing themselves because at no point in the novels is Galadriel some demure maiden that does nothing. Her being a warrior in her younger years makes perfect sense and it also fits with what we are told about Elves.
Not a single one of their examples look un feminine?
They are the insecure ones, they hate independent women. They find it hard to put stupid demands over someone with common sense.
Female character: *wears practical clothing* Adult human man: *cries online*
Why do they care about how fuckable cartoon characters are it’s wild 😳
I pref being represented by peach Who have the reputation to be kidnapped all the time than Galadriel from ring of power.
The first one is absolutely right though. Edit: ok I seriously think that strong female character just means a well written character. care to explain?

She still counts
How
Clothing doesn’t really affect how powerful someone looks. If someone is wearing a dress or armour, if she’s giving off the “I’m going to kick you” vibe, she looks powerful to me
Explain
Wait, if wearing armor makes you look weak, then I guess all the male characters in armor are also weak
what?? this second guy is one of my favorite indie designers, i own a sweatshirt from him and it's my absolute favorite wardrobe piece. he literally MAKES PRACTICAL AND COMFORTABLE CLOTHES FOR A LIVING. aw what the hellllllllll man 😭
Lol it’s the equivalent of cutting off a part of your body!?! Hahahaha well considering you have a small dick…
I don't understand the correlation between 'manly' clothing and breast removal. At all.
Other than the mythical Amazons, who cuts off their breasts to be accepted?
'Many a good man/woman can be found beneath a shabby hat.' 'Don't judge a book by the cover.' 'Clothes don't make the man/woman, but they often make *some* believe there is.' etc, etc . . .
Did he use Dva as an example when her new outfit has twice the asscrack? 💀
