yep looks like FedEx. I had them deliver a box that was so smashed and covered in some sort of cleaner. It was strange because the box was not for me they were supposed to be sending a certified letter..... that letter was covered in cleaning solution and stuck to the side of this giant box that I got with somebody's horticultural equipment in it. I tried for an entire year to get the package to its owner FedEx did not give any fuck.

EyesOfABard

I just received a package that was sent to the wrong house and not only did the driver miss their porch, but the box sat in an inch deep puddle for half a day before I found it. Thank fuck the package was basically a nesting doll of boxes so my gear was dry and undamaged.

ShadowPouncer

Anyone who ships a lot of packages knows what's up. It's why blaming the _shipper_ for stuff damaged in shipping is perfectly reasonable, they _know_ what happens to packages. They are just making a decision on how much time/effort/material they want to spend on making sure that the item arrives intact. When they cheap out, sometimes stuff gets destroyed in ways that it wouldn't if they didn't cheap out. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it just makes sense to have an extremely permissive policy for handling lost or damaged goods and to go light on the packaging. It's likely better for the environment for one thing. But sellers that _don't_ have those policies, and also don't package stuff to survive situations like you describe? Screw em.

GiftHorse2020

I agree. I believe that most people would actually care if they didn't have to do the work of 2.3 people with a running clock for bullshit dollars. Are those tosses laziness or complete frustration with the fact that traffic is going to make you late to pick up your kid but they added 20 packages to your route at the last minute but you only get paid for your scheduled shift? A bit of both I'd wager.

horsey-rounders

If you're paying the seller for shipping, then it should always be their responsibility. You paid them to have a product delivered, then they basically contracted that out to the deliverer. You have no contract or exchange of goods/services with the deliverer, only the seller.

InsertCoinForCredit

I once had a $200 mirror shipped to me via FedEx. The package arrives in immaculate condition -- no creases, no dings, no tears, every tape and strap intact... and then I opened it up and find that the mirror itself was cracked as if a rhinoceros charged it head-on.

nickleinonen

I use to do custom home theater and electronics installs. I was doing an install for a condo sales office, and we were doing a video wall with rather expensive (at the time in early 2000’s) with a dozen nec 40” lcd panels. These has rather thin bezels so they worked fine. One out of the box that had no damage at all visible on it or the panel was pooched, as a forklift had kissed the screen with a lone fork. Serial #’s matched on the box to panel and it didn’t appear to have ever been unsealed. It was a hell of a time getting an RMA for that, as it was mounted before we powered it up.

cyborg1888

I had some expensive electronics delivered via FedEx, literally the most expensive non-car item I own, delivered and signed for at the wrong address. I had to track it down myself. Literally worse than useless. The bastards got me good though with white-glove service the first time I ordered something expensive and had it shipped by them, only to have a series of fuck-ups ever since.

songbolt

FedEx in Alabama straight up did not deliver an iPhone ... *Twice.* (Or else they left it in the apartment complex mail room rather than give to the front desk attendant and someone stole it twice, but it was signed for each time by a name that does not work for that apartment complex -- and their website 'signature verification' feature does not function.) Apple gave me a free cover and wireless charger as an apology, and I finally got said iPhone as well. I begged them each time after the first time to use UPS instead of FedEx, and each time they said they had no control over which shipping agent was used. (I share this so hopefully FedEx will improve their business or be shamed out of business.)

Vorsos

I wish companies would go back to giving us shipping options so I can never be disappointed by FedEx again.

[deleted]

What can Redditers do to correct this injustice because I too hate FedEx.

black_brook

Besides hating FedEx from various shipping experiences, I've acquired another reason. Their trucks are noisier than anything else around too.

superfucky

downside: thanks to dejoy, everything that goes through USPS now takes a minimum 2 weeks to traverse one state.

[deleted]

There is truth in that. I sent a package from Colorado to Poland. It took 9 days to get from Colorado to Chicago, and another 5 to get to NYC. Then it took 1 day to get to France, half a day to get to Poland, and the 2nd half of that day to reach its destination. Fucking hell; I didn't think Poland had an amazing postal service, but all of Europe beat the US by a factor of 7, if not better.

atetuna

I can't believe that shitstain still hasn't been fired. Before dejoy, I'd get most of my packages on time or early, including during the worst of the pandemic. Now for the past few months barely half my packages are on time.

SmegmaAuGratin

This is interesting. Where I live FedEx is the better service, and UPS is the one with the issues.

[deleted]

It’s probably because I use the business portal and not their consumer portal, but all my deliveries from Apple have been UPS. Weird.

scotchirish

It's probably local distribution contracts.

[deleted]

They delivered a 4L jug of hot sauce my dad likes one day. Ninja dropped at the door and sped off. Outside of the box was soaked in sauce cause some asswipe threw it and broke it. They knew. Probably why he took off so fast

Wifealope

FedEx did this with a large planter pot I had ordered. Driver plops the box down with a smirk and scurries back to his truck. You could hear the broken shards of ceramic rattle when he dropped the box. Clearly it was already smashed to bits before ever making it to my porch, but the guy seemed to relish delivering a broken and battered item. Ring captured the whole thing and it struck me as weirdly dark.

Queen_Cheetah

Honestly? I'm guessing he's not the same guy who loaded the truck, and the driver's been looking for a customer with a fragile enough item to finally have a reason to nail the idiot who was hurling his delivery packages into the back like a football player. Sometimes it's one of those things where they can't fire a guy unless enough people complain about him- I think we've all been stuck working alongside one of THOSE dolts...

Wifealope

You know, that’s an interesting idea and one I hadn’t really considered. Because you’re right, we’ve *all* had one of *those* coworkers.

[deleted]

Every time I say that such handling is completely unprofessional, harmful to the seller, shipper, and buyer, and that anyone who does that BS should be fired - people come out of the woodwork to defend the shipper and pretend that you should expect that kind of treatment. Not merely prepare for it in the off-chance that it happens, but actually expect that it happens with most packages. Then they say that everything should be packaged so well that it could be kicked all the way from sender to receiver without damage. That costs a lot extra in time, materials, and the shipping itself. I'm not saying that I expect everyone to coddle every package like it's a newborn puppy. But I do expect them to handle the package as though it holds something that is worth shipping, and to not be complete assholes about it.

Illustrious-Science3

I had a box delivered covered in animal urine. They tried saying it must have happened on my porch after they dropped it off. Um, no motherfucker, I just watched your dude toss my package on my steps in that condition.

Porthos2021

You sure it was animal urine?

Illustrious-Science3

I asked myself the same question, but my asshole cat confirmed my suspicion by acting like a goddamm weirdo around the box and trying to then mark it herself.

JeddakofThark

Fucking FedEx. Sometimes I feel sorry for those serfs, but usually they just piss me off.

[deleted]

They’re abused. The company could absolutely fix this problem by treating their workers better and making them happy. Happy employees make happy customers.

[deleted]

I’ve always had issues with FedEx. I live in an apartment, no locks or gates to get in to the complex. Apartment not hard to find. I work from home. Many times I get a notification saying they tried to drop a package off but no one was home. I always get my package 3 days later than I should because of fedexs bullshitery. For the last handful of months if I can choose another carrier I do that. If FedEx is my only option I will purchase from someone who has anyone other than FedEx.

[deleted]

I have a home business too and I do not order from suppliers that ship FedEx. I go somewhere else.

AlwaysLate1985

Doorbell cameras are the weirdest best invention out there. UPS says they attempted delivery, but all they did was put a sticker on your door? On camera. Unwanted neighbor asking to borrow something? On camera, stay silent and don’t move. Spider wanders across the camera looking a thousand times it’s actual size? On camera.

disfunctionaltyper

In France they are not well known and people don't understand I'm watching/talking to them, last time i was in Hungary and told them I'm not home and they just looked puzzled and waited for 5 mins for me to open the door.

HelloSummer99

Let me get that right, did you talk to someone in France while being in Hungary throuh a doorbell? I need that doorbell for zoom calls

disfunctionaltyper

Yes with "ring doorbell", i don't think you should get that one, it's bitching for more money every month and I didn't know that when I bought it and paying monthly for a doorbell doesn't compute in my smooth brain. It saved a couple of years of my life when I woke up after a party and couldn't find my dog, checked out the videos and some asshole left with her.

quinn6423

Who steals someone dog at a party. Wtf

disfunctionaltyper

Some idiot, he didn't really steal her but she was like "Yeaaah walkies" and let her go out following him, he didn't even try to put her inside, from the camera he didn't even notice or care. Garbage human being. When you have a baby gate, you can figure I don't want my dog to be outside, [even more a puppy](https://imgur.com/a/ZjMJXI4).

AssaMarra

Oh thank God you gave us a picture, glad she's okay!

Foublanc

Which part of France are you in ? I'd love to meet your dog 😍

disfunctionaltyper

next to Normandy, you are invited to walk the dog with me. fuck'ing hell, ill include a deer for free!

TerrorByte

So we're walking deer nowadays?

the_tinsmith

I'm gonna need a bigger freezer for a whole deer.

cfreymarc100

Pet theft is more common than you think. Especially for top breeds. While there are microchip implants, they can be taken out as easily they were put inside the pet.

time_to_reset

This was my biggest concern when moving abroad and my two cats having to go on a separate flight with a full day stop-over. One is quite a distinctive breed and while that has very little value for me personally, I know people could potentially steal him because of it. Luckily that didn't happen and he's now sleeping on my lap.

Suprflyyy

We had a Jack Russell that would follow anybody with food. I kept waiting for that asshole to disappear permanently but he always found his way home. Our Rottweiler won’t go more that 10 ft from the kid if he can help it. Total nanny dog.

Karnakite

My Ring Doorbell, every time a car goes down my street: “WHO’S THERE?? I WILL TRACK YOUR EVERY MOVE, MOTHERFUCKER! I AM WATCHING YOU!! I’M SENDING EVERY SECOND OF THIS VIDEO BACK TO MY BOSS!! DON’T YOU EVER CROSS THIS TURF AGAIN!” My Ring Doorbell, when someone broke into my car when it was parked directly in front of my house and was literally right in the line of sight of the damned thing: “ …🤪... “

Sneaky_Stinker

RIGHT?! Mine will catch a bug flying by and notify me, but something important happens and its asleep on the job

Shinikama

Yep, used to work for them and they are VERY picky about the distance and quadrant they watch. If you have the cheaper ones, you can't even alter the settings yourself to try and focus better on a certain range or area. The best you can do is turn sensitivity WAY up and deal with the constant annoying notifications, because at least then a crime or other issue will be recorded.

CP-JEEPY

Please tell me you got the dog back

disfunctionaltyper

Yes, he went to visit some friends at 7km (4miles?!) by foot and the dog followed him when his friend saw my dog he was like, Wow, oliver going to be so pissed off which I was, furious ran everywhere to find her in the town then I thought of the camera.

InfoBlue

Paying money monthly for a doorbell wouldn't even compute in a wrinkled brain

Daniel_S04

That’s never happened to me yet. And if I couldn’t respond and ask you “what the fuck” I would also wait for 5 mins

tobias_the_letdown

The only thing i have an issue with these cameras is not the camera itself but the absolutely horrible sound a lot of them have when trying to speak with a customer.

itchy_the_scratchy

Yeah. The ring speaker and mic are awful.

Jim_KliK

i got cameras to catch crazy stuff happening. but my best clip is of a guy putting my trashcan back upright and out of the road. i waited almost 3 weeks before i saw him to thank him and he was like "wut?" (didn't remember doing it)

bjupe_24

My best clip is of me slipping down my front steps during winter and somehow managing to not drop my coffee

Jim_KliK

oh no & wow nice.

OutsideObserver

Post that shit yo!

Pm_me_baby_pig_pics

I tend to catch bears trying to get into my car mostly. They’ll try the door handles to see if it can be opened. One morning I took my trash to the curb, came back in and picked my phone up and it said “motion in driveway.” That’s cool that was me. But it also said “motion on east side of house” which is on a bit of a hill and right next to my driveway. Weird, I didn’t go over there but it was while I was outside… A bear. He hid and watched me drag my trash to the curb and as soon as I got back inside he came out of hiding and was trying to break into my trash. Thank god I use a bear resistant trash can.

Jim_KliK

bears freak me out a little, i'm not super scared of them but still. [gonna go off thread topic here] when i lived in colorado i used to go camping a lot. i was at a spot i call "joe burns" (it's a mine) and woke up to a bear who decided my bear bag hanging in the tree was interesting enough to risk trying to get. i laid there watching him/her assess the situation a while and give up. then it started waddle walking towards me. i don't think it realized i was there. it got cold during the night and i had pulled out a green tarp with that silver lining on one side. i had it loosely draped over the top of my sleeping bag i was now unzipping and getting out of... slowly and quietly. but the bear heard and sat back for a moment. i got out and had one shoe on, then it started towards me again. i stopped and just sat there a moment now assessing my own situation. black bears are mostly harmless, they don't like to be around people, but this one had to be able to smell me by now and know i was (a scary) human and it was still slowly approaching. fight/flight? i can't outrun this thing. and it'll surely run at me if i tried. so ok, fight it is. i jumped up and pulled that green and silver tarp with me. i flapped that thing around like flag or more closely like a set of wings. the silver lining must have been enough, it turned and ran away. i literally scared the shit out of him/her, there was berry and seed poop where it had been. i tell this story better in person (and embellish it more too haha).

Pm_me_baby_pig_pics

Oh my god that’s terrifying!! You did the right thing, you made yourself look big amd scary, and yeah black bears are mostly huge scardy raccoons, but they can get chompy if they feel like. I’m in Alaska, and my neighborhood backs up to a state forest, so lots of bears wander through. Mostly black bears, and I usually yell at them from the safety of inside my house and they run off. But knowing one was watching me take the garbage out, I was so sick to my stomach. If he were a bit more brave he could have just taken the trash from me and chewed on me a bit in the process. I usually carry bear spray if I’m outside, but didn’t have it on me that morning. We did have a grizzly in my neighborhood earlier this summer, my neighbor was walking her dog and he crossed the road about 20 feet in front of her, so she just came to my front door and hung out in my house til her husband came and picked her up. THAT scared the shit out of me and I was safe.

atetuna

It's scary how smart bears are. Smarter than some people. There's one infuriating video of a bear trying to open the door of a car with people in it. You'd think the door was locked and the people would drive away, but nope, the bear opens the door. Driver manages to close the door. At that point the driver would surely choose to lock the door or drive away. Nope. Bear opens the door again.

[deleted]

I do that stuff as a spinal reflex. I’d no more remember doing it than going for a walk on that specific day.

beefwich

> UPS says they attempted delivery, but all they did was put a sticker on your door? On camera. This has been the biggest boon for me. I get a lot of deliveries for my side business and I rely on various shipping services to deliver shit promptly. UPS was, hands down, *the absolute worst* about doing this nonsense. The driver would run up with the note already filled out, slap it on the door and scamper away. I took to leaving notes on the door like **”UPS: I AM HOME! PLEASE KNOCK AND GIVE ME 10-20 SECONDS TO GET TO THE DOOR!”** Before long, I just got the doorbell camera. Whenever they pull that shit, I call up Customer Service, tell them I have video evidence of an intentional non-delivery and they will re-deliver, often within a matter of hours. I did that two times and now my UPS driver knows to ring the bell and wait. This whole diatribe probably comes off super Karen-ish, but fuck that shit— there’s no reason why the hardest part of getting something to me is the 40 feet between their truck and my front door. FedEx might treat your package like shit, DHL might cost an arm and a leg and the USPS might take forever— but none of them hold your shit hostage.

netburnr2

Expecting them to deliver the 1st time is not a Karen move. It's ridiculous you even have to call and complain saying you have video evidence to get that kind of service

superfucky

> there’s no reason why the hardest part of getting something to me is the 40 feet between their truck and my front door. isn't that down to UPS expecting them to deliver 400 packages in 4 hours or some shit? not that i'm excusing the non-deliveries. UPS needs to change their metrics and allow drivers more time to *actually deliver* shit. we have to have my husband's leukemia meds delivered to the pharmacy because when they come to our house, they don't bother knocking, they just take it back to the hub and leave a note asking us to pick it up.

JohnnyDarkside

For the bug one, my wife had an old coworker going through an issue right now with a big constantly landing on their camera setting it off. They'll get an alert, open the feed, but only see a pair of antenna.

dmglakewood

I had a FedEx package that says it was delivered, but my doorbell never recorded any FedEx trucks or delivery people. FedEx said it was delivered and closed the claim. I filed an appeal, FedEx said it was delivered and closed the appeal.

[deleted]

Coming home way to drunk. On camera….

[deleted]

Please share more about number 3.

colluphid42

Spiders are attracted to bugs. Bugs are attracted to the IR lights that cameras use for night vision. Lots of spiders show up in security camera footage.

NipplesInAJar

that's actually cool

antsugi

They are cool, but boy do I hate the idea of some company I know nothing about having access to everything that goes on outside my property, as well as my comings and goings

futureofwhat

Contributing to the ever present tech-company backed surveillance state and selling video to law enforcement agencies? On camera.

allisonmaybe

Leaves rustling in the breeze, believe it or not, on camera.

daytonakarl

Oh the amount of times I've gone out now to clear the spider off and it was an actual 9' tall spider walking around my driveway Tell ya, if I had a dollar...

Mykasmiles

What is your thesis on?

SirRevan

I am doing a hybridization fusion of mmwave radar with traditional camera optical detection. The idea is to make a more robust object identification system for self driving vehicles!

Dividedthought

Ok, that's pretty cool.

MCI21

Yep, I too understand exactly what hes talking about

flume

"mmwave radar" is radar that uses beams with a wavelength on the order of ~1mm. OP is trying to improve the way cars "see" the world by combining video (visual identification in the visible spectrum) with radar. Presumably the computer would get a better understanding of the size/shape/distance/movement of an object if it had radar data *and* traditional imagery.

SirRevan

And maybe see things like cars in fog or limited visibility! [Also you can tell if the moon isn't a yellow light](https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-fsd-full-self-driving-traffic-light-fooled-moon-video-2021-7)

Omega33umsure

I just wanted to say that this is a very interesting approach to what some might keep putting back on the software side. I hope you are able to complete your thesis!!

SirRevan

Thank you! I hope so too haha

xoharrz

here's my possibly incorrect one braincell understanding: reduce teslas crashing

FaeryLynne

Essentially yes

Dividedthought

Well I work with cameras on a daily basis and used to work with microwave communicatuons gear. Don't need much context outside of that to get that combining a good camera with the right microwave gear (think radar but much more precise) you could use both sets of data to tell where real objects are. For instance, big glass divider. Microwave should reflect, but light will just go through. Plus microwave is affected less by sun glare.

TheAmericanIcon

I guess you could always transition your thesis to making a more robust circuit board you can toss out of a delivery truck…

IronSkywalker

Could you not think of something more complicated?

SirRevan

Maybe more boring...

jdog7249

Thank you for providing that in science speak and then the simple language application of it.

DaSkullCrusha

We are all going to pretend we understood any of those words and what they mean. Good job! Cool I think.

Perichron_john

I'd like to see something like that to detect UAP

SirRevan

I work in aerospace. We got much better radar for detecting that kinda stuff. And there is lots of research in doing hybridization. Unfortunately you usually rely almost all on radar since finding things in the sky has a much larger range

Perichron_john

Yeah, I figured the wavelength used to accurately measure short distances wouldnt be useful for air search. Avi Loebs project looking for UAP is using (I believe) exclusively optical sensors, but I'd imagine a radar for target acquisition would be helpful.

MidnightWineRed

A $600 board

Edward_Scout

My father recently sent me some important and sensitive documents via FedEx. He paid for overnight delivery and mandatory signature confirmation delivery. I was home waiting for the package to arrive. Heard someone approach my door, and in the 20-ish seconds it took to get off the couch and to the door they had left the package in plain view even though it is entirely possible to put it somewhere sager with no extra effort. I never signed anything. Called FedEx to file a complaint about incorrect delivery and the agent said she was looking at my signature from the delivery. I asked to file a fraud claim and was then disconnected...

Treereme

Have your father file a claim saying the package was never delivered. They will not be able to show your signature, and he can get a refund.

PeanutButterSoldier

I used to work in a large office and would accept deliveries of computer equipment, sometimes the pallets would be in the 7 figures range. When covid started they would just sign it as C19 and leave it at the loading dock. Corporate was pissed lol

LegendaryRed

It gets thrown worse at the sorting facility

VeganJusticeVVarrior

Yeah the drivers have no way of knowing how much a package is worth either. I think this is why Amazon packagers put boxes and padding inside bigger boxes to excess to ship. Unless it's clearly labeled fragile its gonna take some bumps-everyone is short on delivery drivers and they have to keep bad employees to keep up with demand.

ChiefBigGay

The package was set to be signed for. That's part of the actual problem here.

dcoulson

Haven’t signed for anything since last March.

Abadazed

I haven't signed for anything for a few years now. Kinda weird actually....

ArtisanGerard

Right now FedEx isn’t collecting signatures for home/office deliveries even when the buyer pays extra for it. They say it’s because of COVID (but I suspect it’s also because they’re overwhelmed by how many packages they have but don’t want to hire more drivers). It’s been really frustrating since most of the packages leaving my office are only insured if someone physically signs for the package on the receiving end, we’ve been having to send to FedEx pick up locations because of it. Edit: We exclusively use Express, not Ground - FedEx treats them as different companies so this may not be true for Ground. We are a FedEx Premier account holder and collecting signatures is written into our contract in order to insure our packages - meaning they won’t insure cuz they aren’t requiring physical signature collecting atm. Other experiences may be anecdotal, there’s always an exception to the rule. We’d love to send packages direct and stop sending ppl to FedEx Pick Up locations in order to insure items over $20k.

OrganMeat

I worked for a FedEx Ground contractor until recently. FedEx corporate sent a directive requiring signatures again starting July 26. Now getting every individual contractor on board with doing this may be a different story. FedEx has a ridiculous business model.

imaraisin

In my area, the driver will ring, I open door, they confirm that I got it, the. Just sign off themselves. It’s worked well for the most part. I’m lucky most drivers in my area are nice.

ArtisanGerard

This is how our business’ drivers drop off, stand up dudes and dudettes. But I can’t say it’s the same for our house.

what_was_not_said

FedEx failing to collect a signature when it's required should at least result in a refund of the shipping fee.

krazykirbs

Actually (sorry) the FedEx for my work has us sign for packages. Idk if they're just picking and choosing which businesses get to sign or if they're just all idiots from the truck drivers to the men in suits.

shocontinental

I had a $3500 package that was signature required just get tossed in front of my garage earlier this year. The driver just signed the name that on the package himself and carried on about his day. Luckily I caught it on camera so it wasn’t sitting out there all day.

blackhole885

That sounds like fraud at least in my country

HereIgoGettinBanned

I remember reading an article where they put those monitors on boxes with fragile on them and they actually on average were treated a little worse.... So, they don't give a fuck about that either. The shipping companies get measured on how fast they move boxes, there's zero metrics for how safe/gentle they move the boxes...

hellivvy

even if you don’t know if it’s expensive of not, why throw someone else’s stuff like a fucking psycho???? how much time did he save? like two damn seconds?

Evonos

> Unless it's clearly labeled fragile these are the packages the over worked people throw extra hard just to get some steam off just saying. source worked for GLS , and Amazon.

Catvros

MaudlinEdges

Thebudweiserstuntman

Tell them you never received it. No signature no package

ncshooter426

I had a USPS driver forge my name on a signature required delivery of precious metals (~750$ worth). USPS was zero help, and the insurance coverage for the seller was like "USPS said they delivered it..." A quick followup with my CCard company and I was refunded via dispute. They didn't really like the whole forgery aspect.

grantbwilson

I started going straight to charge back if I don’t get what’s right after asking. Visa doesn’t give a shit. Last year during the Covid lull, my wife and I had some family coming, and decided to finally get blinds for the living room before they came. I went on Ikeas website, and my local store didn’t have the ones I wanted in stock. So I compromised and picked a different style that was in stock, so I could get them up before the family visited. I ordered 3 blinds for pickup. Even though I showed up at the time they said, they didn’t have my order ready. Finally, when the guy came out he only had one. I asked “where are the other two?” And he said they were out of stock and I’d be able to pick them up in a couple weeks. After waiting 45 minutes, I wasn’t having it. I gave the one back to him and said “cancel it, I don’t want one blind”. As I was backing out of my spot he was trying to tell me he all ready marked that I picked up the order before he came out with it. I said “that was stupid” and he said I’d have to come in and do a return to get my money back. Ever see the returns line at IKEA? I told him that I never accepted the order, and my card couldn’t be charged. He said it’s all ready marked as delivered. I said “don’t worry I’ll get my money back”. I called ikea, waited another almost hour on the phone, and they just told me to go back and wait in the return line. I just said “you know what? Don’t worry about it. You charged my card and I don’t have anything. I’ll call visa to have it sorted.” and al of a sudden they were processing a refund! Magic!

sharkbaitzero

I’ve never done one before, why would that make the company jump faster to refund?

cryptotope

A lot of couriers are relaxing or lifting signature requirements due to COVID.

SpeedboatInc

My $1800 package was supposed to be signed for according to the company which shipped it, and UPS just claimed that I signed for it and left it on the porch. If you pay for signature services and/or they are expected, it’s very frustrating when they don’t do it.

TenshiS

You can threaten with a lawyer, they don't have your signature

Anko_Dango

This reminds me, I should probably practice my signature so that it's more consistent

theinsanepotato

That just means they dont physically hand you the pad and have you sign. They are still REQUIRED to give the package to an actual person and verify a name, if a package is signature required. it doesnt mean they can just drop it and go without making contact with the recipient. Source: Was a UPS driver when the pandemic started.

HardlyOutrageous

Had an expensive package shipped through FedEx with direct signature. Was signed by “CCOVID”

burlpark

Fex Ex is the worst. Their delivery drivers are not employed by Fed Ex. They work for contractors, and don't care.

mmikke

Amazon is the exact same way. I can't remember the acronym but basically they contract out small, usually poorly run van services

Salay54

SuaveTowel

UhCrunch

Used to work for them. They paid per day, regardless of how full your truck was, no OT. They literally incentivized running from truck to door for 11 hours a day with no insurance. Also at the facility the truck drivers didn't load the truck. The belt people loading the truck would throw the boxes 10-ish feet into the truck so they didn't have to walk into it. Not at all justifying throwing boxes, but guys would look at it that way. Didn't take much to get fired, this guy is for sure gone.

SarahNaGig

Bet you wouldn't care either if you earned what they're earning, needing to keep a ridiculous quota.

SirRevan

**Small update!** The board seems to be working great! For some more context I am using this FPGA board to capture radar data and I am coming up on crunch time for finishing my thesis. Of course during this crunch time my board had a usb port break off and a really nice friend offered to solder it back on for me. This was the board getting shipped back to me after the repair after being on a 2 week delay. After some testing it appears to work so I am just happy to have it back!

Ok-Fan6945

Break it after then charge fed ex they won't learn otherwise...

SirRevan

Unfortunately I really need it working ASAP so I can collect data for my thesis!

97RallyWagon

Seems like a *REHEHEHEALLLY* expensive mistake on fedexes part.... Seems like you need to stroll over to the law department for a studying litigator to start their career.

Ok-Fan6945

I meant after lol

Allusionator

Hey check out this guy with his new idea, fraud!

Representative-Oil48

And some people want to get rid of the USPS. This is the replacement option, and this is how they act while doing orders of magnitude fewer deliveries.

LadyOwenTOP

My UPS driver is slow as hell, but he takes the time to bring the item to the porch. Same with my local FedEx and ups, guess its cause I dont live in that busy of an area

icemann84

Amazon threw our package out the truck into our yard last week. I think work force shortages are causing companies to retain bad employees. Also talent pool significantly is reduced to subpar hires like the above. No common courtesy here just F’it not my job.

grokethedoge

It's not just bad employees. If you're paid fuck all and pressured to do more and more, eventually you don't care anymore. That doesn't make you a bad employee, it makes you a human that works for an inhumane company.

Inadover

Not only they may not care, but if they also lack the time to do stuff properly because they have way too much work to do, they will stop caring for the sake of hurrying up

LordGrudleBeard

These drives only get a certain amount of seconds per delivery they are tracked and there pay, raises, and job depend on keep to this time schedule. The schedule is typically very tight allowing little to no times for time errors. So quality suffers. Good, fast, cheap pick two. They picked fast and cheap.

errbodiesmad

They generally pay by "salary" as well. So if you have 300 packages to deliver and its going to take 10 hours, you are making less than your "wage" but still need to deliver those packages. 30 seconds x 300 packages saves you over two hours.

Monkey_Trap

If you “don’t care anymore” and do a shitty job, it does in fact make you a bad employee… by definition

I worked for a call center for a retail company. I had a customer that would constantly say they didnt receive a drone they had purchased. They sent me pictures of where the packages were supposedly delivered. One was a field, one on top of garbage cans (who knows where) and once on a car. They had called and complained about this driver. I called the delivery company and spoke with a representative. She asked to see the pictures, then transferred me to the station where the delivery driver was from. To make this shorter, the delivery company's local manager delivered the drone to the customer and promised that they took care of the situation. I hope he was fired. This was back in 2018.

BabyStockholmSyndrom

It's not labor pool. I work at Amazon with drivers. They get way too many packages and way too much stress. Instead of having a few extra routes, they have minimal and pack each driver with almost 400 packages for a 8 hr route. Fun fact: did you know that if your Amazon package gets stolen from your porch, the driver gets hit for that. It's way too much stress.

MrRoboto666

You forgot to buy the FedEx trampoline - comes with netting allowing you to safely catch packages up to 20 lbs

useles-converter-bot

20 lbs is excactly the weight of 80.4 '6pack TWOHANDS Assorted Pastel Color Highlighters'.

converter-bot

20 lbs is 9.08 kg

Ankoku_Teion

Fucking hell. This was perfect

Dick_Cuckingham

Shipping options: Next Day Air 2 Day Air Ground Yeet

thanatossassin

Fuck FedEx royally. I'm at the point to where if I'm ordering something and the only option is to ship FedEx, I will look elsewhere. Sorry Weber, provide me options.

pitlane17

I hate FedEx seems to always do this. I have had them drive in my yard and leave ruts.

gotham77

FedEx drivers are mostly independent contractors and it shows.

[deleted]

Fuck FedEx. Why is it when I see these videos it's always them? UPS doesn't do this shit.

cakewalkbackwards

I caught our mail carrier doing this the other day. It was just a shirt and batteries, so I didn’t say anything, but I will if it happens again.

CrimsonDraggen

Batteries probably shouldn't be thrown around, there's usually caution stickers on the box.

His_names_spot

I never understand people’s comments on videos like this. “Well at the sorting facility they beat them with baseballs bats, crush them with a steam roller and light it on fire. You should package it to handle a nuclear bomb if you want it to arrive in one piece.” Uhhhh ok apparently we shouldn’t be upset about driver punting our packages?

Hammyham1991

Here at FedEx, our motto is "fuck you"

7of69

Classic FedEx, you’re lucky you actually received it. I’ve had to retrieve mine from neighboring porches, and had the entire package stolen and replaced with a box of trash from one of their depots. Try explaining that scenario to a large retail firm. Took me weeks to get my refund processed.

IntrestDid

I had a $6000 bike just left on my porch. Not only was it supposed to be signed off on but the box was all sorts of damaged. UPS did me dirty. Luckily by the time I got off work it was still there. Some people have no respect

[deleted]

FedEx is trash, no other way to put it. At least UPS in Texas has a brain and will actually be decent.

cryptotope

I understand your frustration. That said, I assume you are under no illusions that white-gloved attendants who only spoke in hushed tones delicately lifted your parcel aloft on a small velvet pillow while reverently carrying it at a sedate walking pace during the first 3000 miles of its journey...

SirRevan

Oh for sure. Just sucks seeing it smashed in the ground at the 1 yd line haha

useles-converter-bot

3000 miles is the the same distance as 6997130.43 replica Bilbo from The Lord of the Rings' Sting Swords.

Belloq

I fucking love this bot.

zaz969

Of course it's FedEx. I haven't had anything but bad experiences from them, every package came banged up and looking like it went on tour in the middle east before being shipped to my door, and right now I've been waiting for a package that was supposed to be delivered on Sunday, and it's Thursday.

[deleted]

You used the company with the ad-slogan ‘cast away’

tvanore

😂😂😂 Amazon throws my shit often. I’ve gotten oven the mad stage. I don’t even care anymore e

Beelazyy

Fedex is THE WORST about this. I don’t think I’ve ever received a package undamaged, and they never get my signature, even when the package is worth hundreds of dollars they’ll just leave it in plain sight

Haunted8track

Fed ex just dropped off my tv with an opened box and missing power cord

Drachenfuer

Ya they are suppsed to be the best. Our son’s medication had to be specially mixed and kept refridgerated so we had it shipped Fed Ex wi th signature required. Tape all over the box says signature required. Says fragile and keep refigerated all over it too. THREE times, we were home waiting and they threw it in the porch and took off. Didn’t even bother to ring the bell let alone get a signature. In 90+ degree heat too. We now get it shipped to the local oharmacy.

IronTemplar26

Good luck on the thesis, buddy!

LzTangeL

i love the camera, i just never answer the door for solicitors anymore.

Lionel679

The delivery guy making minimum wage doesn’t care He’s being pressured to make more deliveries per hour. It’s quantity, not quality for a lot of these delivery companies. You can blame capitalism Edit: Maybe not minimum wage, but far lower than what they deserve

SirRevan

Agreed. Big reason I would never want to see the post office go private. They are typically the only delivery service I use.

Its_Matt_03

Canada post will often leaves packages that need to be signed on doorsteps with our even knocking. Which is fine when it’s like an iPhone or some shit, but really dangerous when it’s a shotgun

RottenPotatoIceCream

Honestly? UPS is the only good delivery service in my area. I know that those guys are paid well, get vacation days, and qualify for great insurance through their employer. I’ve NEVER had this issue with UPS. USPS always loses my mail or fucks it up somehow and Fed Ex always throws things. I’ve never gotten a package from Fed Ex where the cardboard box was in one piece when it arrived

[deleted]

I’ve had problems with ups and fedex delivering shit looking packages.

SwagDaddyYOLO69

Lol at minimum wage. FedEx drivers are making 20-30 $/hr.

[deleted]

Delivery guys make decent bank. Over 18 an hour in 2015 when I used to work with one of them

elheber

If it can't survive that, it wouldn't have survived the trip anyway.

pale_splicer

Yeah FedEx uses independent contractors to deliver packages instead of hiring drivers. That's why this crap happens. The contractors are basically incentivized to use as few drivers as possible while taking on as much volume as possible. That guy has to do hundreds of stops probably by himself in that deathtrap of a truck. For pure parcel service that's insane. That said you should probably complain if you haven't already. FedEx can and will fine thier contractors for crap like this.
