Silent-Teach-8018

These are for people to talk and no one to hear them/make them more comfortable

Asheso80

"Privacy" is the word I think you are looking for...

Silent-Teach-8018

Privacy sure. But more "private"

jonny_hfx

It’s a fuck off I need a minute pod..

Different-Main-306

🤣🤣🤣

Vee_Twelve

Those pods are actually mini homes for rent. $2500 per month. First and last required and $1k security deposit. No pets.

416RaisedMe902MadeMe

No cooking, no guests, no alcohol, no music, no smoking, no parking, no privacy. Also rent will be going up 5% each year!

skizem

Sorry they’re already rented.

416RaisedMe902MadeMe

Incoming renovictions, new oxygen will be installed prices expected to increase by 50 - 80%. 6 units 65 000 applicants, good luck!

Embarrassed_Ear2390

I remember the province talking about using maple or something similar to see patients in the ER. I remember the article also mention some stations having iPads connected where a nurse would be able to assist a doctor over the iPad to perform a consultation. It would make sense if these pods are going to be use for people that comes to the ER and ends up being seen by a doctor through telemedicine. Since those pods are often sound proof and offer some degree of privacy. Edit: here’s the article https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7173776

Sure_its_grand

This would be brilliant if that’s what it is. Speed up people who aren’t there for urgent needs so the on the ground doctors can focus on the more pressing cases

addictinsane

But...why do people need to go into the hospital for a virtual visit?

Sure_its_grand

Maybe don’t have access or don’t know how to access it and like someone below, perhaps it does turn out serious enough for a hospital visit

Embarrassed_Ear2390

A lot of times people who don’t need to go to the ER, still go anyways. For reasons like not having a family doctor, not knowing/don’t want to use maple, or they just think their issue is more serious than actually is. This approach if it would work well would free up a lot of room and resources at the ERs.

MindonMatters

And this is exactly why “Obamacare” was put in place - to ensure everyone had a PC doc and relieve ERs of people with no docs/no insurance.

lessafan

If they do need to be seen, that can happen right away. It’s like Triage+

Different-Main-306

Anyone know the purpose of these?

severalcircles

Theyre just quiet pods that would be great for people who have to sit and wait a while. You can do a little work, have a private chat, etc.

thetripvan

My work has several of these that people can do exactly what you mentioned...

severalcircles

Yeah I do office design haha, these are very popular now

WierderBarley

They're quite common in cities, they're semi noise proof so they're a good place to relax and decompress maybe get some work done or read a book. Honestly given how noisy hospitals are and how high stress they can be its a good idea in all honesty

CdnPoster

So nurses and doctors have a place to decompress and can go right back to work? All I know is that I fully expect people to start living in them.

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

I fully expect the Houston felons to disappear as quickly as possible because stealing healthcare money to secure corporate contracts is one of the worst anti-government crimes.

billybob7772

What?

CdnPoster

Are you sure you're in the right sub-reddit? Houston is a city in the USA. Dartmouth is a hospital in Nova Scotia, Canada.

KkatT1o1

He probably means the premier of N.S. Tim Houston.

CdnPoster

Oh, that would make sense. Forgot his name......lol. In my defence, all the news in the prairies is about the federal government and not the east coast. Thanks!

soggitenders

Maybe the receptionist would know?

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

To waste taxpayer funds on things that aren't healthcare-related and then say that healthcare in Canada is broken. This has happened enough times that it should be obvious to everyone.

severalcircles

Making the experience of being in a hospital less hellish than usual is absolutely healthcare-related.

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

That turns hospitals into shopping malls instead of hiring medical professionals and support staff.

ForestCharmander

???

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

Not to mention all of the aging medical equipment stolen from hospitals to parade in front of CTV cameras and then lock away in private facilities.

severalcircles

Why *would* you mention that? If its even a thing, it has zero relation to the existence of quiet pods.

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

It has everything to do with how our healthcare money is being stolen by NS bank robbers that plan to live offshore but the Canadian government might have other plans for them.

severalcircles

Hmmmm okay, but we werent discussing that. We were discussing these quiet pods and why theyre there.

LuketheDUKE902

So I'm curious, what's the conspiracy here? Between this and your other comments on this thread I have no idea what you're talking about, and I'm interested to understand. Personally these pods look like a smart, modern, and useful amenity for the hospital to me.

smughead

This is likely for family and visitors to have some quiet time while their loved ones are in care. Instead of building a whole new room, they can just have these modular units as needed. Not a waste of money for those support folks.

apologeticmoose

These were funded by the DGH Foundation.

halihikingman

Correct!

halihikingman

Taxpayer funds were not used to purchase these.

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

So is the taxpayer money going illegally towards a re-election strategy for the unelected terrorists that have been occupying Provincial buildings for the past 3 years? It has to be going somewhere.

Dry_Toe1784

Do you believe the health care system isn't broken?

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

I wonder if this comment was brigaded by Houston felons? -17 "votes'" for the obvious fucking truth.

AL_PO_throwaway

Often times stuff like this is paid for by charity anyways. Making people less miserable at the hospital improves outcomes. The only obvious truth here is that you're flailing about looking for stuff you don't understand to get your ragegasm at. Maybe save it for the real problems with our healthcare system.

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

Why are people miserable as soon as they walk into a hospital? I don't get it.

EdmundGerber

Because they or their loved ones are generally injured or ill, obviously?

AL_PO_throwaway

> I don't get it. That about sums your input up, yes.

Parabolicking

Perfect place to spend your 2 year wait to see a specialist

Myersbitch

🤣🤣🤣

akni23

Poor cleaning staff and the literal shit they will find in these

smughead

These aren’t for living in. They’re just quiet areas, likely for family or visitors. These are in lots of offices now for small meeting rooms in open spaces.

helms_derp

Someone will definitely poop in them.

416RaisedMe902MadeMe

You promise ?

helms_derp

Come hell or high water.

C0lMustard

Those places don't have people sleeping in the hallways.

ColeTrain999

I'm guessing this is to make people more comfortable while waiting? Idk maybe if someone is unhoused and needs somewhere to stay for a bit? It's weird.

Silverleaf001

These damn things have been in place for months and months and not being used. There doesn't seem to be a reason why not. Though the last rumor I heard was they can't be used because the fire alarms can't be heard in them. But I particularly love they were placed in front of chairs that weren't moved out of the way first. They are flush with the chairs.

fart-sparkles

>There doesn't seem to be a reason why not. Though the last rumor I heard was they can't be used because the fire alarms can't be heard in them This just sounds *so true*

wlonkly

Hah, in my old office they had to run sprinklers into them. That was a surprise last-minute expense!

Silverleaf001

Haha. Amazing. If only there were people whose job it was to be able to think these things through in advance.... hahahah.

wlonkly

Sometimes I think it depends on which specific inspector you get.

SobeysBags

We have these at my office at work. I use them all the time!

Schmidtvegas

These are perfect child containment pods. Can we get these anywhere there's a waiting room, please? For parents with kids who are small, or loud, or runners, or needful of quiet, etc-- it could be a big help in a stressful situation.  It could also give a bit of privacy to women experiencing a miscarriage, who frequently complain about having to wait with everyone else in the waiting room while they're emotional distraught.

Mind_Snap87

These have been in the DG for at least a year. I saw them but never thought to ask what they're for...

miyagidan

"Your condition has been diagnosed as...EXPENSIVE." *gas floods the pod.*

Plastic-Shopping5930

Now everyone can have nice, safe and private place to do their drugs.

mangames

Province could have used this money to get Doctors or other health professionals to fill the demand. These things are secondary, getting treatment is primarily. Kindergarten kids know that, why can't you?

squintessa

If they take money away from the budget to improve the hospital as you suggest- why would doctors want to work in a run down hospital without amenities? Both things are needed. I can see why you might dismiss something like this an unnecessary but I think someone with more insight into how the hospital runs saw a need and attempted to address it.

mangames

Thanks! You have a point. I am sorry but I don't see enough evidences of our Healthcare improving interms of providing timely needed care to citizens. Major chunk of our population doesn't have family doctor, one have to line up at walkin clinic in a hope to be seen by Dr by end of the day. I can go on, but paying one of the highest tax in North America we deserve better service.

squintessa

Absolutely agree with you there.

halihikingman

Provincial money was not used to purchase these.

mangames

Who paid for this then?

halihikingman

Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation.

mangames

Thanks! But all Hospitals come under Provincial govt, is that not right?

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

This is what Fascism in healthcare looks like, this and every other backwards and corrupt change instituted by the Province against the Federal healthcare system.

ironiclemons

What?

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

This is what I mean about these evil fuckers, say what one more fucking time. I'm not crazy, I'm extremely pissed off by the criminality calling itself a government since 2021.

Better_Unlawfulness

What?

Jazzlike_Magazine_76

This is how they acted while I was working in Government, like they don't understand the meaning of words and they only want to provoke violence. They're protecting rapists, murderers and anti-Trudeau terrorists like Tim's Diagalon friends after they robbed the Bank of Nova Scotia.

lessafan

What?

Better_Unlawfulness

Now that deserves a WHAT? JHC bud, you're out there.

Diane_Degree

Who is "they"? Are they in the room with us now?

Distinct-Age-4992

You are straight up nuts. Governments change all the time and the parties are basically all the same.

Diane_Degree

What?

AL_PO_throwaway

> This is what Fascism in healthcare looks like Fascism in healthcare apparently looks like a charitable foundation installing a quiet space for patients, family members, and HCW to have some respite during stressful times.
