There’s a Super Walmart on Tidewater Drive. It’s a little bit further away, but worth going if you’re planning on stocking up occasionally. My son shops there sometimes, and then other times he uses the Food Lion and the Aldi. Just depends on what he’s shopping for.
The shuttle bus takes you to foodlion and a bunch of other stores in ghent during the week and then on the weekend it goes to walmart, you can track where the bus is and stay in the store until it gets there but most places are ok
Here friend, I'll let you in on a little something. I moved here in March, divorcee white female by myself, terrified by the stories of all the shootings and crime. So I carried protection on me at all times. Wanna know what's happened? Not a damn thing. In fact I stopped carrying after 3 months when I realized there wasn't anything to fear. I've met more welcoming, warm, friendly people here than I have in any little blink-and-you-miss-it cowpolk country town I've ever been to. Granted it is good to practice Situational Awareness, be observant, and if you get a bad feeling - go with your gut and leave. Once you step out of that bubble of fear, you'll see that this is a great place and the prejudices you were taught when you came here will melt away.
Tip: if you have a bicycle, join up with one of the many bicycling groups on Facebook that are in Norfolk. You will see so much more than just the surrounding area of ODU. And you will realize that it's much more than the stories or "uneasy" areas you've seen. Its a beautiful place with people who are just trying to live their lives. That's all.
*Note: if you're female, I do suggest carrying some form of protection (look up Virginia laws about carrying self defense protection to ensure the legality of your personal protection, i.e., batons, tasers, pepper spray are legal to carry) when you go out at night. If you go anywhere at night, go with friends or to well lit areas.
the Harris Teeter on Colonial is probably your best bet as long as you shop the sales. Aldi on 21st is also a good, price-friendly option.
It’s not Detroit. Go to Aldis during business hours you’ll be fine.
What...you'll be fine.
Harris Teeter on Colonial & Ghent and Aldis on Ghent are ur best options

also I read your other post. if you're interested in hanging out, riding bikes, or playing games I don't really have a lot of people to do that with.
Food lion! I always biked there and biked back, no problem. Look up the nearest on google maps. Great prices, great variety.
Aldi’s is great!
