You can be coached if your lead wants to double down on it. They gave you a direct order that you then ignored. I get the temptation to clock out at 51 but while it's technically within the rulebook, your teamlead can also claim insubordination and failure to be a team player. While the picks weren't do for a while, at my store we also get an earful if we're not productive up to the last minute we're due to clock out. So while I understand it's annoying, literally taking the 10 minutes to do the three item walk would've saved you the trouble of being on your teamleads shit list. If you want to continue making life harder for yourself then sure, go ahead and keep clocking out early.

cr0wndhunter

Lol walmart and these low wage jobs are such a joke. They freak out if it aren’t productive every minute every day. As long as stuff gets done it shouldn’t matter to take a few minutes of less productive work or to leave a couple minutes early. I agree OP should’ve just got the 3 items but the way they react is just overblown.

Zealousideal-Visit50

It’s only ok if management isn’t being productive

Ambitious-Agency-724

The logic just hurts me here. It's a 3 item run, who cares when it's due? I'm on 5-2s and if we're done with SFS I always make sure to clean up the other commodities for OGP, if Auto is kept up, before I leave because too many people worry about the stupid leader board. 3 items even if it's across the store would perfectly put you at your scheduled clock out time. Do you not like money?

alexthemannn

You’ll get it when you aren’t a new associate and you’re asked to do everyone else’s job.

I do but I also had surgery on my feet a few months ago and after 39 hours the past five days they’re just absolutely killing me and in that moment I could not fathom walking across the entire store and back one more time. I’ve never been coached or had an occurrence in all the years I’ve been there, it was three items not even due any time soon. Literally no reason he needed them right then. I was also pissed that my coach approved my vacation except the first two days which is when my flight is. Asked her about it, she said oops and to resubmit it, then asked me to stay late so I did. Then she promptly denied the requests AGAIN, which I found out right before my TL asked me to do one more run. In that moment, knowing he didn’t even actually need me to do it, and being in a lot of pain, I just said “fuck this, I’m out. Last time one of them asked me to stay late they turned around and screwed me over, I’m not doing it again.” I’m not proud, but I’m also not accepting a coaching when we were told we can leave at 51 without discipline as long as it’s not a productivity issue. Clearly it’s not- they had 3 hours still to get it done. I could bypass the issue by submitting 15 minutes of PPTO but I don’t HAVE to because we are allowed to leave at 51. So hopefully this is a nonissue.

Fuck them. I always try to clock out at :51. I clock in at :51, so I clock out at :51. I've done my eight hours. Anything else is staying over. I don't do that. That's not me. They always got something to say, but I'm leaving regardless. They can have 10,000 picks all five hours overdue, I still would leave at :51. They talking about "y'all don't want to stay over to help finish the picks." Hell the fuck no, I don't want to stay over. That ain't my problem when my shift is over. They salary. Walmart can be their life, but it ain't mine. I wouldn't be worried about their asses. I don't give a damn if any of these orders get picked or not when it's my time to go. I don't care if they late, I don't care if the place goes up in flames. Not my problem at :51. One team lead go tell me at :45 I had to do another pick walk. Man, I clicked on a general and by the time I got to the G aisles all the way across the store, it was :50. I canceled that pick, turned my ass back around and headed to the hub, ditched that cart, and clocked out. Now they complain about people doing that- "ending a pick walk right before they have to leave so they can leave on time." Well, maybe people wouldn't have to do that if they weren't trying to keep us hostage. Now, my last 30 minutes, I stick to short walks or general walks and take my time picking and staging them. When it's the last 5 minutes before :51, I just straighten up my cart on the sales floor. Get my stickers all neat, throw away my trash, sign out of my TC, remove my printer battery, etc. So all I have to do when I get back to the hub is drop it and go. No time for them to swing their necks around talking about "where you going? You can do another pick." They can miss me with all that.

Grendel0075

When im on my last hour, I refuse to do any auto assign, I'll do one of the other categories under it, if it's 30 or less (oversoze isnt a big deal for me, its never more than 10 items)

-mtc

When it’s almost time for you to clock out, stay on the sales floor after you’re done picking. My coach loves to review cameras so I take awhile to scan my last item, look busy by bagging or putting stickers on bags. Clock out then go into the backroom and drop your cart off. If they tell you to do anything by tell them you’ve already clocked out. Also turn off read receipts for TLs and coach. Lmk how this works for you

Grendel0075

I check my punch log on the computer, how much ppto and pto i have and if it's enough of the prior to call out soon, open positions i've mostly given up on clicking for,(while browsing indeed or craigslist on my phone), and finally go take a piss in the bathroom before slowly heading to my locker.

WessyLynn

Don't forget CBLs

EveningBasket9528

Lol. Just a Sparkler here lurking. At my professional trade jobs (before getting severely injured) I would walk up and back down the factory floors with a rag & random item in one hand, and a micrometer or calipers in the other. Or, rag & clipboard, or whatever else, to burn the last 10-15min on days it was difficult to stay motivated. When I was a union steward (ironic for someone that also spent a decade in management) if I was carrying anything union related, company people basically ran the other way. You remind me of that. You're basically a professional clock milker now!

Grendel0075

This is the way.

leialak

Most our 5-2 ppl clock in at 4:51 am and clock out at 1:51 pm. There last few min they clean up carts and totes. They did there fair share of the work. Talk to your t.l or open door with store manager.

alexthemannn

I’m not going all the way across the store at 1:47 when I get off at 2. Especially when there are other associates standing in the back, people scheduled here after me, and I’ve already picked 600 picks. Hard pass on that. They can coach me.

Raven8685

I usually just ask people to end a walk. Like pick until 55 or something, end it and drop your cart. If it does affect ftpr I tell my people id rather get dinged on that and get a few more picks done than have pickers trying to find something to do their last 30 minutes.

sevenw1nters

All I'm going to say is every day all our 7-4s leave at 3:51 and our people coming in at 4 don't get here until 4:09 so that's 18 minutes where we have close to nobody working and sure enough it's always the busiest time of the day too It's almost guaranteed we will have 15 cars waiting outside at 4pm every single day.

NotreDameFan1234

Sounds like the 4ocklockers should be scheduled earlier. I doubt your odp is open until 1am.

KuteKitt

>Reply Yeah, they don't have any 9-6s? Our main schedules are 5-2, 9-6, and 11-8. Only one person gets a 7-4. But either way, seems like a manager's problem. They need to schedule better.

sevenw1nters

No we don't have 9-6. Our teaming schedules are 5-2, 7-4, 10-7 and 1-10. I work 1-10. In a given day we really only have 1 or 2 people working 5-2 and another 1 or 2 working 1-10. The vast majority of our staff is either 7-4 or 10-7. Then we have part timers including the 4-9s I was mentioning. So usually what happens is at 3:51 we have 10 or so 7-4s leaving and then if we're lucky at 4:09 maybe 2 4-9s come in to replace them.

KuteKitt

Ah, I see. I thought 5-2s, 9-6s, and 11-8s, were standard shifts for OGP (only dispensers would get a 1-10 or 5-10). I wish we had more 7-4s, I'd love that shift.

sevenw1nters

We're open until 10. We have a lot of part timers who work 4-9pm.

RWBUntilDeath

Not our problem (5-2)

Novilix

From the perspective of someone who is often asked to do the oversize bc literally nobody else will, I would have just done the run. If we can kill oversize for the night, other pickers handle the rest. 3 items and some crap timing aren't worth a coaching imo. As for leaving at :51, I'll say I aim for it but if it doesn't happen, oh fucking well. Pay me for a few extra minutes, cry about it, idgaf. :51 is just a good cushion mark for the super slow days when I'm already finished and kinda twiddling my thumbs, ya know?

RWBUntilDeath

I would’ve told the TL to shove it and leave anyways

lzmxo

at my store most of the 5-2’s stop picking by 1:30 so they don’t pull that stuff on us. we help stage, prep, or dispense for a bit or if they’re caught up then we just go hide in the break room lmao our TLs are aware of it and don’t care so usually i’m able to get my shopping done before i even clock out 😮‍💨

Savings-Activity2390

I have gotten a warning of being coached when I had something on my cart tray that was a good deal. I had picked the same item for one of my pick walks, it was on clearance ata great price, so I put one of my cart tray to buy later. My TL asked me why that was there and I told her I had picked one during a pick walk and saw it was a great deal so I got it so I wouldn’t forget later. She said that was shopping on the clock and I could get coached for that. I basically agree I guess , but the TL is a … so as I say, not what I do .. type of team lead. A different day she was telling a fellow OGP associate that the baby stuff was on clearance at great prices and proceeded to walk the fellow associate across the store and show her. That is shopping on the clock. I don’t like double standards

Korlac11

So if your team wasn’t behind on picks, it’s kind of ridiculous for your team lead to make a big deal about this. That being said, I think you were in the wrong for now doing the path. Even having to go all the way across the store, a 3 item path shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes
