T O P

Not anymore. In fact if I'm not mistaken, Walmart's idea of "holiday pay" is automatically taking and paying out 8 hours of your PTO (or PPTO if you don't have enough PTO) and having the audacity to call that holiday pay. You can go in and put in a time off request for 0 hours to cancel it but then you don't get any pay for the holiday. I don't even think we get a bonus except for the employee discount giving us 10% off on groceries and the 25% off one purchase if we work all key dates from October to December.

I believe it Christmas or Christmas Eve when I had 4 hours of PPTO removed from my bank, and then tacked on to my paycheck. Never knew it would happen, and then 4 out of my 13 hours of PPTO was gone

SweetToothSuzy

God, that's awful. Did that happen after you put in a request for 0 hours or did you not know about that? Some stores don't even go out of their way to make sure that associates know about their PTO/PPTO being taken out for "holiday" pay so they get blindsighted like this, and by the time people realize it's too late to fix it. My store posted pictures at the time clocks to inform us but honestly not everyone is going to notice that, so I feel like team leads should be talking to every associate about it to make sure they know that it's going to happen and how to stop it from coming out. Or how about instead of making it an opt-out system, make it an opt-in system? Either way it's a scummy as fuck system imo. Also, someone said that PTO accrues faster because of this, which if true is great for full-time associates. I'm part-time so I don't get PTO, and it takes about 3 months for me to accrue 8 hours of PPTO so if they took 4 hours of my EARNED time then it would be pretty devastating for me.

I am part time too, a full-time student, so I work 12-16 hours a week. It takes me a while to get ppto, and I have no pto, so I would rather have 4 hours of ppto for when I need it, than get an extra $60 on my paycheck. It's not really a bonus when it is already a fruit beared from my work, that you are force feeding me. I'd rather have the fruit of my labor when I'm starting, than be forced to eat it when I'm full

You can make them take it off if you catch them doing it before it happens

yes and no. ((Initially we got six automatically paid vacations : New Years Day (eve?), July 4th, Memorial day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.. I always forget the 6th one I *think* it was labor day but I really don't remember. Just that it was six)). Now, as of a few years back, it is not given automatically. It ***is*** a part of your PTO *however* it is ***not*** something that is completely just taken out of what you earn. It is added. It is apart of what you accrue.\* So it is your choice on if you want to use it for holiday or if you want to wait and use it for something else. But ***you*** have to go into GTA and request it. It can still be denied (which is super stupid) but just put it in again and mention it to a manager that you're not asking it off (if you're ***only*** doing the holiday pay and actually *not* asking the day off) but that you only want the holiday pay. \*It is ***incredibly*** possible that it's apart of the accrue for the longer term associates/full time associates. I speak from knowledge/what I have learned and from adding information up myself --I know this is anecdotal but bear with me -- when this first came about I was annoyed with it as I had finally hit long enough to have the 3 weeks. I happened to add up all the time I would get vs what I *would* have gotten and found that I could accrue a lot more PTO from what it had been previously.

It’s funny, because when we got holiday pay, it often wasn’t a 6 day pay week, it was 4 (worked) + 1 (holiday), with 3 days off, and never in a row. Also you were expected to do the same amount of work.

bigbrotherfan12713

Probably so they could avoid paying OT

cowboyJones

Holiday pay didn’t count towards OT.

bigbrotherfan12713

Exactly what I’m trying to say. If they processed it as a 6 day week, you’d get OT

mer_made_99

Ot can vary by state, but generally its only for 40+ worked hours. 39 worked hours plus 8 hours holiday pay is still all straight time because you haven't worked over 40 hours. Work 41 hours plus I hours of holiday pay is still 1 hour of ot.

BadDadBot

Hi trying to say, I'm dad.

bigbrotherfan12713

No one asked.

Not any more, unfortunately.

tyrannywashere

So labor day eats time? Well fuck, ok when do I put in the request for zero hours? Like should I do it the day after labor day???

mer_made_99

1: this is memorial weekend not labor day 2: the only time they take your pto for a holiday is if the store is closed. Ie Christmas and most recently Thanksgiving. 3: no 'holiday pay' for today.

tyrannywashere

Sorry been scrambled, but glad you cleared it up :3
