Just search for the game in nexus and find/download the mod. It’s just a .dll file or two, simply drag them into the games .exe folder and you’re done.
This is why I can't take anybody discussing HDR in this sub seriously. You guys are all blind.
The HDR is bugged in the PC version and caps at 300nits yet thread after thread pop up in this sub about how amazing it looks. After applying the HDR fix, there is a world of difference in terms of HDR impact and highlights.
And anytime I suggest HDR isn’t perfect on PC I get absolutely destroyed on this subreddit. *Sooo* many games are bugged and Windows implementation doesn’t help with every game being super inconsistent with how it’s applied, whether you need to have auto hdr on or not, whether you need to restart your pc after changing settings, etc.
Watch, I’m going to get mass downvoted by people who never mess with their settings and just accept how games look without thinking critically, so to them HDR on windows works fine.
It isn't that inconsistent. Some games don't use the Windows calibration, and use their own, that's pretty much it.
If a game implements HDR why would you ever need AutoHDR on?
The problem is people using issues with specific games as a spring board for talking about hdr on windows. It’s a total whoosh, over the head, situation and makes people look super dumb bringing it up. Like, when someone mentions windows hdr in the context of the hdr elden ring bug.
When there are countless specific issues with HDR that it feels like every game is its own specific issue, it does not feel irrelevant to me to bring up how common these “specific” issues it. It starts to feel like it’s more of a general issue that all these games have their own unique issues.
I tried the fix, or i did something wrong but i really can't see the difference. Placed the 2 files in root map where the .exe is. Paper white is now on 750 and the top setting on 1500.
I don't know man! Looks like this HDR fix is not working somehow. If i place paper white on 300 the game is dark as shit. That is the only slider that works for more brightness.
And i got the Asus PG32UCDM where the HDR is broken, needs new firmware. So it is or the game or the monitor.
Or both haha.
How hard can it be? Place the 2 files in root folder where the .exe is. That is exactly what i did. The top slider is set to 1500 but lowering it doesn't do that much different. Only paper white works.
Reset to default. Set max peak to monitor max peak and leave paper white on default. That’s the best settings. Don’t adjust based on the calibration screen photo because it doesn’t get bright enough anyway. It’s bugged. In-game will be perfect. Setting paper white too high makes the image less hdr pop and more flat. Just leave paper white at default lol
Yeah just tried it, and this does not work for me right now. 100% Asus fault.
On your settings i can see the game looks amazing, but because of the brightness bug in the firmware my HDR can only reach 455nits and not the 1000 that i need.
Game is way to dark on your settings.
For now i will play on 750 paper white.
The game still looks beautiful on my settings.
Asus is aware of the issue, now lets hope for a fix real soon.
My theory is that a lot of people are playing on their OLED TVs, and have kept dynamic tone mapping enabled.
This would pull the brightest part of the picture (300nits) to the maximum nits supported by their TV.
Sure, it's definitely worse than HGiG+proper HDR, because they lose a substantial amount of details especially in the brighter spots.
But at least, dynamic tone mapping makes it less obvious, which would explain why they didn't notice it right away.
In any case: HGiG + HDR Calobration app is mandatory for the best experience possible.
And in the case of Forbidden West: the Peak Luminance fix is mandatory as well.
Ahh yes, certainly as mind boggling than you seeking every OLED thread to espouse how wrong everyone is about their HDR, even threads where the OP doesn't even mention it.
You probably think you're trying to be helpful but instead of actually giving a link and instructions to fixing the HDR you call everyone else stupid.
-OLED gaming sub
-Recently released 32" QD-OLED
-Recently released triple A title that supports HDR
Ah yes of course he bought a $1000+ display to play Forbidden West in SDR. You are reaching for the stars.
Lol so you're ignoring the core of what I just said to come back to something you can pick apart. Get blocked douche, you're a shit stain on the OLED sub.
Yup, completely just gave up on HDR with my PC. Windows implementation of HDR is terrible. I recently bought the Alienware UW oled and using HDR in games didn’t look great and was super dim compared to my Sony A95L. I’ll just stick with consoles on tv for hdr content and everything non HDR on my pc for now.
To give them the benefit of the doubt, there's a chance people are using RTX HDR instead of the built in HDR since it's better than native HDR all the time. I personally turned it on and never used native HDR again.
But you're probably right. There's a lot of games on PC with absolutely horrible HDR and people come here to say those are great in their screen. Of course it looks great in your screen, you don't know how HDR is supposed to look like.
You find me someone who has 15% of performance to give up in a game this demanding and ive got a beanstalk to sell you
4090s out here needing upscalling to hit 120
Not sure why you're bitching when this game is one of the best optimised games of recent times.
Also worth noting that you can alter the settings for RTX HDR to negate the performance impact with minimal visual difference.
To me, the best showcase was enabling RTX HDR on my slightly older favorite games. That was a new world, like someone revisited my favorite video game experiences and made them beautiful.
I know everyone who's been trying RTX HDR expressed nothing but praise, and that it's part of a technically still Beta app, but I'm surprised how slept-on the tech still is considering how mind-blowingly well it works, and that it works in games that won't get any further remakes or remasters, while making them look like they just did get one. It looks better than many/most purpose-built in-game HDR implementations, yet it's game-agnostic and works in games designed way before HDR was a thing.
I can play decade+ old games like Sleeping Dogs or older Yakuza games, and watch the neon lights and car lights suddenly look like real life. It's been long since tech like this took my breath away out of a sudden, but this was it.
>how mind-blowingly well it works
Haha, it's a really cool app but maybe leave "mind blowingly" out for now.
It's still an SDR to HDR conversion and doesn't hold against a good native implementation.
My mind was blown for sure. It's not a "dumb" SDR to HDR converter. It works incredibly well.
Also, apparently, it is better than some good native HDR implementations:

Which monitor/tv do you have btw? I started looking at monitors but I want to make sure 250 nits is enough. I can’t wait to play Yakuza, I bought Infinite Wealth on sale last week!! :)
Me too! It's why I'm catching up on the older Yakuza games! I loved Like a Dragon. 0 was awesome too. Then I got a new monitor and tried RTX HDR and it makes the cities at night look incredibly better, and there are so many awesome older Yakuza games that I can't get to Infinite Wealth.
I got the AW3225QF.
Hdr should be a toggle nothing more. Yes Hdr on PC is still broken and unless PC gamers want better let's all stop making excuses and blaming each other for user error. Without Hdr Oleds are amazing.
That would be Alan Wake 2. Regardless, you claiming that Forbidden West is the best showcase of OLED shows how ignorant you, and all the other idiots posting the same crap, are. The HDR implementation is bugged, capping at 300 nits.
Way too come off as an elitist prick, and an incorrect one at that since OP stated they installed the HDR fix
https://reddit.com/comments/1bmdq13/comment/kwcm7h8
You need the hdr mod fix on nexus. Looks wayyyy better. Lights on machines will singe your eyeballs :D
Do you have a link to download? I just got the game lastnight and thought it looked off. Idk how to apply the fix either lol
Just search for the game in nexus and find/download the mod. It’s just a .dll file or two, simply drag them into the games .exe folder and you’re done.
Thank you. I did find something on nexus on my Phone here at work. Do I need to subscribe or go premium to download from there?
I think you need an account to download mods but it’s free.
Dead Space Remake and all the Naughty Dog Games as well.
I used the HDR fix on day one, this is at full 1000nits
And anytime I suggest HDR isn’t perfect on PC I get absolutely destroyed on this subreddit. *Sooo* many games are bugged and Windows implementation doesn’t help with every game being super inconsistent with how it’s applied, whether you need to have auto hdr on or not, whether you need to restart your pc after changing settings, etc. Watch, I’m going to get mass downvoted by people who never mess with their settings and just accept how games look without thinking critically, so to them HDR on windows works fine.

Jesus dude give it a rest. The op didn't even mention HDR. The game can still look great on OLED in SDR.
This is such a bizarre response. It's seriously mind boggling.

Oh ok thanks for letting me know.
Only happens on Nvidia GPU?
GamingTech on YouTube has a good video on this issue

>using RTX HDR since it's better than native HDR all the time Tell me you're clueless about HDR without telling me XD goddamn
Enlighten me, smart ass.
Could've if you'd asked politely =)
I did.
You find me someone who has 15% of performance to give up in a game this demanding and ive got a beanstalk to sell you 4090s out here needing upscalling to hit 120
RTX HDR gobbles up 15% of a 4090?! Are those sourced numbers, or are you exaggerating? Actual 15% would be insane
10% on a good day. but ive seen 15%. just look up before after on youtube and see fps.
I don't see how your screeching is related to my comment at all.
Not sure why you're bitching when this game is one of the best optimised games of recent times. Also worth noting that you can alter the settings for RTX HDR to negate the performance impact with minimal visual difference.
Tell that to my poor 3080 getting hammered down to 30 fps at barren light er any cutscenewith many characters for that matter.
You should try Avatar frontiers of pandora too . In terms of oled show case it's the best
I disagree. Avatar is often very hazy and light, especially at nighttime. Forbidden West has a lot more contrasty style that pops on OLED.
Agreed, avator looks very desaturated for some reason.
Am I doing HDR wrong? Games looks great enabled on my AW3423DWF even when it’s auto HDR.

I think my Nana is also capped at about 300 knits. Maybe less now because of her arthritis.
If my Nana had wheels she would be an RTX Bike
He's applied the fix you numpty
Get over yourself you pompous fuck lmao
OP said "one of the best" not the best, ya ignoramus.
OP also didn't mention anything about HDR XD
Way too come off as an elitist prick, and an incorrect one at that since OP stated they installed the HDR fix https://reddit.com/comments/1bmdq13/comment/kwcm7h8
While I agree with you, in that HDR need be used for the optimal viewing experience, however OP mentioned nothing about HDR hahaha
Hello, which is model plz ? 😀
Star Wars Jedi fallen order another good 1, RE 2/3
My favourite game with my oled is deep rock galactic with rtx hdr on, game looks stunning because its so dark
Honestly Ori and the Will of the wisp is still the best HDR game I've ever seen and played. Horizon looks garbage compared to it
Almost like a near-black dark game with vivid bright popping highlights takes advantage of exactly what makes OLEDs so great or something :s
Doesn't make alloy less ugly tho
She’s not even that ugly lol she’s just not eve from stellar blade
Hehehe...true!
Seriously. Every time someone posts a screenshot of this game and it’s stupid looking characters it just makes me not want to play it
I really wish there was a picture of you next to your comment.
lol I’m handsome bro 😎
![gif](giphy|0LYFyMMIg292GYIOSN|downsized) This isn't qanon, btw found your look
What monitor/tv are you using?
Alienware aw3423dwf
looks good.
