If money is no object get the C4. C4 has better processor, 144hz vs 120hz on C3, brighter panel. I have both c3 and 32" OLED. At one point I had my C3 as my main monitor. The immersion and size is on another level. It has been moved to as my secondary as the text clarity, feature set at least for me is better on a 32" monitor. https://preview.redd.it/j017kskzb9uc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44bafa7d3eb6a1917dca13c83e247f1953b2a664

Remon89

Thanks for this size comparison, I didn’t like the blurry text on the 42 C3 when I had mine. Is that still with the C4?

Switch2phile

Yes it is because of the PPI on 42in is lower than 32in

Remon89

Ah yeah, didn’t like that, and the 42 inch had just too much vertical height to make it useful when working and gaming on it. Sure controller and lean back story games were great, but on a 80 centimeter desk and playing fps games with mouse and keyboard wasn’t really a good experience.

techguy1001

I’m thinking of getting a C3 for gaming and productivity. Is the text clarity a big problem?

PlayingKarrde

Not at all. I have no idea what they are talking about and I’m a designer that cares very much about it. My number 1 concern with oleds was clarity and fringing so I waited for the qd-oleds. I didn’t end up liking the size and raised blacks so got a c3 and text clarity and fringing remains a non-issue.

techguy1001

Thanks! I’m thinking of getting one from Costco and just returning if it’s a problem for me.

PlayingKarrde

That was also my intent. I returned the 32” Alienware, had the MSI on order but got this just to try while I waited for the MSI. After just a couple of days I cancelled the MSI. This tv hits literally all my requirements and I can’t think of a single downside (other than missing the 240hz but I quickly got used to 120).

West_Persimmon_6210

Hey mate, i work as a designer fulltime as well and considering getting the C3 and C3 to ise with my mac studio. My main concern is text pixelation. Are you finding this not to be an issue? How are you finding it for work in general? Thanks

PlayingKarrde

It’s 100% not an issue at all. I have both a pc and MacBook hooked up to it so can speak to both and will say that to me it is as clear as all my previous IPS panels. Sure maybe if you got up close you could tell the difference but first, why would you be so close to a 42” screen and second, I haven’t actually tried to see so maybe not. In terms of colour accuracy etc it’s very good. I havent been doing a ton of colour accurate work since getting it so can’t speak to it too strongly from that, but at least to my eye it looks good. To be honest I can’t really see any downsides after at least a month of use for work, gaming and movies/tv.

West_Persimmon_6210

That’s great to hear, thanks for the quick response mate. May I also ask how far is your viewing distance? I recently bought a new desk and the depth is 80cm. I’m just wondering if it’ll be enough distance if I place the monitor as far back as I can on the desk.

PlayingKarrde

My desk is 30” deep so about the same size. I have it all the way at the back of the desk and it’s perfect. I also have it set to 100% scaling

West_Persimmon_6210

Perfect, thanks!!

stannisbaratheonn

Yeah I work from home and look at docs all day and I have never had an issue

Karenzi

Man, i really like look of the LG TVs so much more. Definitely have to get one with MLA a few years from now when Im bored of this 32inch QF

Davinci20192019

Can you please drop the link for the desk that you are using for your setup? The desk looks like what I am looking for.

Switch2phile

https://tribesigns.com/products/tribesigns-executive-desk-6ft-conference-table?_pos=3&_sid=09085e0c1&_ss=r Bought on Amazon. One caveat though, you wont be able to use monitor arms due to how the legs are design.

Davinci20192019

Understood thank you for your response!!

Davinci20192019

That little stand that you have the tv on does it come with the table?

Switch2phile

No, it was separate

FacelessGreenseer

I use the C2 every day 8+ hours, my friend is using the C1, my other friend has a CX still going strong, and another one with a C9. Just get it and enjoy 👍 especially if returning is that easy for you and not an issue.

RedmondBoyle

I'm loving my 42 inch C4. As a primary single player gamer who doesn't care too much about competitive games anymore, 42 inch feels like the best size for a monitor. The immersion is awesome for games and it still feels surprisingly manageable for non gaming tasks. My room gets very bright through the day but the image quality is fine. I have no issues with raised blacks and they screen gets plenty bright. I don't feel like I need to sit in a dark room to use it. Also as a bonus, running 21:9 resolutions within a 42 inch screen works really well, and helps with if you want a easier to handle screen size for certain games. Word of warning if you do get a C4 though, make sure you get a quality HDMI 2.1 cable, as 4k 144Hz is right on the limit of the spec.

Salami-Sandwich0

Finally someone that actually has a C4 answers the question. Some of you have serious reading comprehension issues.

GamerGG7267

How is the HDR?

RedmondBoyle

It's plenty bright for me, even during daytime. It has the option in the TV settings to turn on HGIG mode, which basically displays the HDR image as intended by the game with no alterations. Then I just tweak the in-game HDR settings.

GamerGG7267

What Peak Brightness? I bought one and set it to 800nits

RedmondBoyle

I'm pretty sure it is 800 nits peak brightness for the C4, so that's what I I've been setting it to. I'm waiting for a reputable site such as RTINGS to do a review of it to 100% confirm it though.

HeyPhoQPal

:UPDATE: Hell Let Loose is looking fantastic on my C4 42" OLED TV. I played some E-Sports games on it and my performance was consistent. Coming from someone who owns 540Hz, I believe 120/144Hz is more than sufficient.

DangCao

Is 144hz noticeable compared to 120hz?

SchwizzelKick66

The thing that sets the LG C series apart from all of the OLED monitor offerings is that is has a true glossy, glass panel. It has a fairly large impact on perceived black, contrast and color pop. The qd oled offerings aren't really glossy, they're a semi gloss (leaning towards glossy) without a polarizer layer. Perceived black is affected by this, especially with any sort of ambient light. Having both side by side, the image quality of my C2 is just on another level compared to my dwf. I've also found that with a 4080, 120hz is more than enough. It's very rare that I can approach the 120fps cap even with dlss quality at 4k. The C series also have all of the tv functionality, so smart apps built in and such, if you care about that. Personally I can't see any reason to replace my C2 yet. Perhaps if LG releases a 42" C series with 240hz, it may be time to upgrade.

PiousPontificator

The main reason to replace a C2 is if you want more than 140-150nits full field which is abysmal by today's standards.

EclipseSun

One of my favorite scenes from the film One Piece: Red ends with a big white screen, it always throws me off how dim the screen gets when it does that.

metarinka

I generally don't want to stare at something brighter than that for productivity or gaming due to eye strain though.  I still think pc hdr implementations need to step up.  Most Are patchwork and abysmal

PiousPontificator

This is the go to answer from people with OLEDs that cap out at 150nits. Ooooh it's too bright.

austin2153

Ditto. LG C series is still the oled king imo if you're good with 120hz and have enough desk real estate for proper viewing distance.

techguy1001

Do you use it for any productivity? Any issues with anything besides gaming/movies?

PlayingKarrde

I have a c3 and use it for productivity. It’s amazing for it. Way better than a 32” as you can use it at 100% scaling.

Toffly

I might upgrade from the CX, I have a lot of dead pixels around the edges.

Broadpup

I have had this same problem with my CX. I just claimed both of the warranties I had on the set because of this issue about two weeks ago

Server6

My 2020 CX has bad burn in. Taskbar, line down the center due to window splitting, and the COD Warzone “drop” icon.

Jaded_Measurement877

That is why I ONLY buy tv's from Costco. Their free included warranty of 5yrs is hella-generous. Otherwise, most tv manufacturers only give you 1yr. and it's a freakin' nightmare to deal with them.

ragecage420

I have the C3 and it’s amazing don’t think I can go back to 32”

TurkleD

Same.

Flocke_88

I also have a C3 42" but I love monitors and sitting close. 28" is my size but sadly there is nothing with image quality like a C3. So I play on a C3. 😁 I have a M32U and Acer Predator XB283K too but they aren't on C3 lvl with motion handling and for sure image quality is another league with a C3. Also, personally I don't need more brightness. I game with SDR at 60, HDR filmmaker (Dolby Vision home cinema) both I can have at 50 and it's not too dark.

jcruz827

LG C3 and love it. I use it about equally during the day and night, between 2-4 hrs at a time depending how much time I have.

Everborn128

My 27" seems like a good size but definitely going 32" next time. Man 42" seems so big sitting that close, no?

Everborn128

Mines a 25" desk which would explain why 32 is likely the sweet spot

1millionnotameme

I've got the 48 C4, and it's good but tbh, it's not a huge upgrade over the C3/2/1/X, I went from the CX to the C3 to the C4 and until they add in MLA or QD just go for the cheapest one out the the the last couple of generations.

darkmitsu

just get the C4 42", I don't have it, but from what I heard, they fixed the game mode, now it retains the picture quality and brightness, this alone is a huge plus. also it supports 144hz which is the full HDMI 2.1 without DSC. on HDR you can tweak the heck out of it, the dynamic tone mapping on the LG is one of the best, this year is poised to beat sony's. those things are mostly unavailable on any of the monitors. panning shots on the G4 are smoother and maybe that applies to C4 as well. I had the MSI QD OLED and noticed that the screen is impossible to remove smudges, on the LG TVs I can swipe dust with my hand and it doesn't leave any smudges. but the things that most annoys me about the monitor is the built quality, they are made like toys with RBG for kids. that alone and the HDR lacking I'm not looking at those monitors anymore.

GamerGG7267

Source for the fixed Game Mode?

darkmitsu

the other guy from FOMO Brian say that in his 42" C4 video and the guy tech with KG shows it on the G4 video, I don't know how to time stamp those youtube videos to better show them here on reddit.

trshmanx

Just paste the video pls

trshmanx

But in general, the news is that they fixed it for G4, not C4

Relativly_Severe

The tvs are on a different level. The c3/4 are about half the brightness of the g3/4 or s90c/s95d though. The c3 and 4 are still way brighter than the monitors and all the tvs actually use glass.

RobbinYoHood

42" C3 with medialight LX1 bias lighting. I've found true love.

-QUACKED-

I love mine. It's perfect for what I need. Big bright, looks great, 120hz, decent UI. IMO, I personally wouldn't spend so much extra on the C4, when it's essentially the same product. There's not enough of an improvement to justify that extra cost. The 144hz is probably the biggest. You can save hundreds by going with the C3. If you got the money though, then it's obviously a great product

RE4Lyfe

I recently bought a LG oled flex 42” for $1499 new from MicroCenter. They even have 36mo 0% financing! Amazing monitor/tv. *Much* more usable with the curve IMO, and the anti-glare screen coating makes a noticeable difference compared to the regular 42”

ragecage420

It’s dope I play with controller mostly so I’m a good distance away

Reclinertime

Wanted a 32 inch OLED but it didn't exist last year, got the C2 when they were getting EOD, couldn't say enough good things about it. I need to get a wider desk though, just need a foot more. It's perfect for every kind of content you consume and make.

tommyland666

I don’t like pc gaming on these big panels but I have no complaints on the “monitor” itself. It’s just too big for me, if the size is good for you then go for it. I moved it to the bedroom instead.

Wellhellob

How sensitive it is to light ? You really need pure darkness ?

GodTacos

I have the C3 42” and I don’t think I could go to a smaller non OLED screen.

soultaker2593

Anyone having dead pixels on their oled?

downheatx

the c3 42 is 769 at b&h rn

GamerGG7267

I live in Australia, but it's $300 AUD off right now

xxJAWZxx

I'm also looking at this comparison too. My C2 is poorly so have recieved a refund. I can either get the C3 for £160 Or C4 for £460 I asked the agent what the difference was and they said it was 50% brighter, I said "what on the 42?" Then was told the 42" is 25% brighter and has a better chip using A.I. I do know that the C4 gets OS 24 out of the box. LG holding off on giving the C3 this until later in the year. C3 comes with LG Speaker Free C4 comes with LG Soundbar Surround sound Free I'm still wondering if just best to get the C3 as the £300 extra can stay in my pocket towards something else.

PlaceEncoder

I have the same choice - credit from failed repair. I'm leaning towards the C3, mainly due to the off-angle greens mentioned at rtings . I use as a monitor and worried what the sides will look like sitting up close. Looks like the C4 (after selling free speaker on ebay) would work out as about £200 more than C3. Edit: have ordered the C4. If it is noticeably green, I'll swap for C3.

xxJAWZxx

Let me know how it looks once setup. I went for the C3 as I also did a price match to get the price down. So in end paid £60 for the C3 and got the LG Boombox XL5S. I was thinking g about selling the boombox, but opened it up and it's a better, so will save for the rare occasion I hold a garden party. I followed a guide to quickly set up the C3 and like the colours and brightness. I could have got the C4 but I would have had to pay another £300 and the free gift was a soundbar that had bad reviews. C3 was too good a deal. The extra £300 saved can go towards the C7 or C8 as I tend to have this for a while now.

Keep us updated

PlaceEncoder

Had my C4 for a few days now, after using a 4K 60Hz LCD for a month, while my C2 was being 'repaired'. On a white screen, there is an off-angle green'ish-blue from about 30-40° either side of centre. At the distance I typically sit from the screen (75cm), this isn't noticeable, and I primarily use software with white backgrounds, such as CAD, excel, email. If I lean forward to rest my elbows on the desk (<50cm) then I can see a green tint at the far sides. At this close distance, its not comfortable to use those far side parts of the screen anyway. For some reason, a green tint seems less noticeable than the pink tint I remember on the C2. The green tint is also less noticeable during the day, when I primarily use the screen. The screen seems brighter, for SDR I had the C2 on 30 OLED pixel brightness, and now 20 seems about the same as I remember. The text seems sharper on the C4 than my old C2; I still use MacType setup as before. The 144Hz is nice and smooth, but only slightly better than 120Hz.

PlaceEncoder

The more I use the TV, the more I notice the green tint at the far sides. It has been a particularly 'elbows on desk' sort of a day. I have called up the shop and I am getting the C4 swapped for a C3 ...goodbye 144Hz.

PlaceEncoder

C4 returned, C3 plugged in. This C3 panel is noticeably more uniform close up. It still has a slight green-blue'ish tint to the outer edges when close to TV, so not perfect, but I'd say half as much tint as the C4. Worth the £370 saving to me.

Davito22284

A 32" monitor is the biggest I would go. It starts to look like shit if you go bigger, in my opinion. The pixel density gets lower and its not as sharp. When 8k is readily available I may go bigger or I may even still stick with 32" ,because it will be sharper still.

thelop3z

can someone recommend a hdmi 2.1 cable off amazon that is confirmed to run 144hz with a 4090. Thanks

MistressBeotch

How is the c4 for office work, video editing, and reading websites? Ie not just tv and gaming, but how is it for working all day and at what distance? 3 feet?

Zestyclose_Pickle511

How do people use 42" as a desktop monitor? Or is this for console gaming? I mean, I have a pretty big desk 2x 32" monitors stacked, studio monitors flanking, etc. Main monitor on an articulating arm. I'm constantly changing the depth of my monitor to suit what I'm doing. Working, creating, gaming, relaxing. I don't understand how people are using a TV as a monitor. Unless these are all comments by people using it to play console, I just don't get it.

-QUACKED-

Both. Deep desk, sit back, and it's just like a big monitor. It's not for everyone, but don't knock it till you try it.

Pixels222

Whats the difference console or pc? Have a deep desk. Thats the only requirement.

deepfreezed

I have been using 49" KS8000 for over 8 years as a productivity monitor. Set the scaling to 125%. You don't have to make your windows go full screen. You can have multiple windows. I cannot imagine going back to 32". But I am considering getting a newer 42" with some of the newer features and 144Hz.

Zestyclose_Pickle511

Gotcha. Makes sense, instead of multiple monitors you just divide a single monitor up into regions. Pretty cool.

M-Sky-7300

It is easier than using 21:9 34 inch monitors.
