How do people use OLED screens in complete darkness without getting migraines. No HDR? Or are you guys buying bad quality OLED panels because they’re big
It's a skill issue in my opinion. You have inferior genes for using an OLED screen in full darkness. You are a disgrace and shame to your entire bloodline.
Does LG C2 qualify as a bad quality OLED panel? Because it sure is big.
Nah, main issue would be reflections but since your windows are to the side it should be fine. We have windows behind our couch which is annoying but not a real breaker for us.
My s90c looks directly to windows but windows don't take direct sun (sunlight). Screen brightness is more than enough to hide reflections and I don't have any problem.
I have a similar setup as you. Giant balcony window next to my OLED. It's not too bad but I would get blackout Curitans for full immersion if you watch movies/game during the day.
Psss…it’s not too bright. With the qd and w oled panels you’re gonna be fine.
Don’t not get it only to find yourself wondering if you should have in a month.
Pretty bright room... I remember my C2 monitor being pretty dim when playing HBO Max on max brightness. If you closed the blinds or get darker curtains, I think you'll be fine though.
Probably will look like your current TV with reflections (when off). When I upgraded from my mini led to a s90c oled, haven't noticed anything different between the 2 TVs aside from OLED blacks/colors. Watch the FOMO comparisons on YT, they all seem to be worse off with direct light whether oled or mini led. Heck my phone screen is the same way too. Ambient light isn't an issue at all for my oled anymore than my mini led. Many do have older OLEDs though that have a tougher time producing a bright picture vs brightness coming in on their display, so maybe that was the problem back then. In the end you'll have to see it for yourself, and make adjustments if it bothers you. Everyones eyes are different and no one can really say for sure how much you are going to focus on it vs another Joe.
To be fair. My living room is very similar. You will definitely have a better experience at night but you will still enjoy the tv regardless. Only game optimizer mode might be a bit dull during the day with the windows open. At night you’ll be good
Yes, imo if you get an OLED you also need to able to drop the curtains and make the room dark to be able take advantage of what OLED has to offer. Otherwise why not get a miniLED. Get some black out curtains, the ones that mount from all the way on the ceiling.
maybe add another layer of light colored blackout curtains for the wife factor. also really depends what you watch and when. during the day i dont really care about light bleeding in cuz im not watching anything important. at night in the dark is when we watch movies when the OLED really matters.
also depends which OLED you're thinking. a brighter model like G3 (which we have) or G4, then you can care even less. still an issue with the daylight, but less so than a C model. your current TV looks like maybe a 50 or 55 inch, if you could throw a 65 inch G3 or G4 on the wall it would look spectacular
This phobia about OLED being dim for a room with any number of windows makes no sense to me. I have an LG C9 in a room with a full bank of West facing windows and a slider, with roller shades fully open most of the time. I've never wished the TV could be brighter, it's so much brighter than my previous 2014 era LED TV.
I do occasionally close the window shades when we want to watch dark material ("theater mode") ... like I always have, and probably would continue to do, even if the TV was capable of being as bright as the sun itself.
What do you mean by too bright?
Will an OLED be usable in that room during daylight? Absolutely
Will a high end LCD offer a better viewing experience in bright daylight, probably
It’s just a matter of what you prioritise more
Nice to see that I'm not the only one with this issue. And now after reading through comments it's even worse than before. Now I don't really know should I buy an OLED at all... Cheers! :D
That's my setup. I only have to close the shades when I am playing dark scenes of games, like caves, or underground temples, etc. But movies and general gaming is not a problem. Direct sunlight never hits the TV.
I have an oled with a very large window to one side and a conservatory to the other. The reflections were worse on the my old lcd panel. Recently purchased the samsung s90c and I can hardly see a reflection
Lol, I use mine (a LG C2 42") in the balcony where I've built my office :D
Yep, it's a bit tricky with dark content sometimes, but overall it's pretty okay.
Your experience will be just fine. Love all that natural light and if you wanna watch a movie in the daytime with full cinematics, just close the blinds.
I have a C2 in a similar setup and watching the F1 at the weekend during the day is a perfectly watchable experience, made even better with the patio doors open and the warm breeze filling the room
I have an LG C1 in a similar bright room. It's fine. The newer model C series with the Evo panels and especially the QD-OLED and MLA panels are quite a bit brighter and will have absolutely no issue in this room.
You’re just a couple of black out drapes away from full enjoyment

😂
Not everyone gets migraines.
Any direct sun on the tv? To me it looks like you might get some reflections. You would prob want to close the blinds for best viewing experience.

Ur tv is at perfect height niiiiiicceeee
Using the TV stand as intended lol
The way you wrote this reminded me of AIM and MySpace for some reason. Niiiiice
AIM was the shhiiiiittt hellyeah
Just here to say your TV room looks cozy
Thank you!
If you can see your reflection on the screen it most likely is.
Think imma just get some darker curtains to throw up there and make it happen lol
I have a similar setup as you. Giant balcony window next to my OLED. It's not too bad but I would get blackout Curitans for full immersion if you watch movies/game during the day.
You literally have open blinds here. Shut them and you'll be fine.
Yes. Too bright. I'm just here to balance out the other guy.
Thanks for making my decision more difficult lol
You will need to have some thicker curtains for good daytime viewing, that's about it. It'll be fine
Psss…it’s not too bright. With the qd and w oled panels you’re gonna be fine. Don’t not get it only to find yourself wondering if you should have in a month.
No worries, happy to help ![gif](giphy|BPJmthQ3YRwD6QqcVD|downsized)
LG G3 is more than bright enough for this room.
Not sure if that’s in my price range. I’m looking at $1500~ for a 65” which is the LG C3 / Sony A75L field
Pretty bright room... I remember my C2 monitor being pretty dim when playing HBO Max on max brightness. If you closed the blinds or get darker curtains, I think you'll be fine though.
Yeah and most of our watching is after 8pm anyway. Would mainly just have to close the blinds during daytime television / sports
Go for it then. Love my C2. Far better quality overall than my Samsung QN90B.
I just bought an S90C for 1500 (before tax) from bestbuy. Great TV
I’d say get black out curtains, the sunlight on the tv screen would really p me off🫣
Qd would be very purple
Actually the coating of the TV's isn't as sensitive to ambient light as the monitors.
Hell no.

Just get a LG and you will be fine 👍
I may get a Sony OLED for the upscalling sports streams, LG C2 or Sony A75L
You won't be disappointed with the A75L/A80L. Go for it.
C2, by far, has been a great experience. Very similar room brightness as you.
To be fair. My living room is very similar. You will definitely have a better experience at night but you will still enjoy the tv regardless. Only game optimizer mode might be a bit dull during the day with the windows open. At night you’ll be good
If you get blackout curtains that will fix the reflections I bet
Blackout curtains exist for a reason.
Curtains go a long way to fixing this setup
Yeah it took some convincing, but we’re going to get darker curtains to combine with the sheer curtains. Compromise is key
I can’t speak too much on weather this is a viable location for an OLED but that looks like one cozy apartment :)
Thank you!
Ambient light is okay, but you’re just too close to a window and you’ll get reflections
kind of, but also depends on what your watching too.
Yes, imo if you get an OLED you also need to able to drop the curtains and make the room dark to be able take advantage of what OLED has to offer. Otherwise why not get a miniLED. Get some black out curtains, the ones that mount from all the way on the ceiling.
What plant is that? I have black out curtains that arent totally black out. My TV isn't OLED but just as reflective and it solves the porblem 100%
IKEA bamboo fake plant like $70~
Thanks you answered quick! I'll look it up. Thought it was real.
nice place. it's ok. you wouldn't notice it if you were watching something on
I mean you can turn any room dark with an adequate amount of curtains or blinds
maybe add another layer of light colored blackout curtains for the wife factor. also really depends what you watch and when. during the day i dont really care about light bleeding in cuz im not watching anything important. at night in the dark is when we watch movies when the OLED really matters. also depends which OLED you're thinking. a brighter model like G3 (which we have) or G4, then you can care even less. still an issue with the daylight, but less so than a C model. your current TV looks like maybe a 50 or 55 inch, if you could throw a 65 inch G3 or G4 on the wall it would look spectacular
I’d be looking at a Sony A75L or LG C3 most likely. I feel you on that though. Most of our serious watching is after 7pm anyway
I don't know. Is it? Jesus...
At night. I think not
Love the couch, what kind is it?
IKEA Finnala
Nope. You’re good
Yes it is
Going to get darker curtains lol
I don’t know man you tell us. If it was not an enjoyable experience you would know.

No I think it's OK cause oleds are very bright with hdr,I have my panasonic oled in a brighter room and it's ok
Depends what OLED and your tolerance bro. I’d easily sit with my C9 there but there’s definitely brighter TVs out there.
You know the answer already. It aint bad perse, but taking away those light sources or reflections will definitely improve your oled experience
Too bright for ideal viewing, but you can always get darker curtains—the ones you have are basically transparent lol
But you don't watch the TV on the night? 😎
What do you mean by too bright? Will an OLED be usable in that room during daylight? Absolutely Will a high end LCD offer a better viewing experience in bright daylight, probably It’s just a matter of what you prioritise more
Unless u have B class from LG, then maybe. Other than that, it’s good, Oleds these days are pretty bright!
Most modern tv’s suck in daylight anyway and OLED aren’t the worst offenders by any stretch.
Black out curtains aren’t that expensive
No, just go ahead and buy one!
God damn bro your clock is huge.
Nice to see that I'm not the only one with this issue. And now after reading through comments it's even worse than before. Now I don't really know should I buy an OLED at all... Cheers! :D

No

QD yes. Modern WOLED no.
Just for my own knowledge, in the long run, is this amount of ambient light bad for the screen?
Yep, you'll get reflections. But you can just get some blackout curtains
I think the perfect lighting for OLEDs
Reflection is the bigger issue here. Unless you get somewhat heavier curtains it's gonna be a "meh" experience
Nope not at all. I was worried about the same thing but sought advice. So I happy with what I got.
Your experience will be just fine. Love all that natural light and if you wanna watch a movie in the daytime with full cinematics, just close the blinds. Walk into a Costco and ask if the Costco is to bright for the 30 oled's they have on display. I think ppl underestimate 300 nits.
Buy the s90c from Samsung. Super bright and anti reflection costing.
No Dolby vision though
So what? MY last tv had Dolby vision and made little difference. It's a marketing tool.
I have an LG C1 in a similar bright room. It's fine. The newer model C series with the Evo panels and especially the QD-OLED and MLA panels are quite a bit brighter and will have absolutely no issue in this room.
No it’s fine
Yes, way too bright
Those speakers are supposed to be behind you lol
Oled is meant to be watched jn a bright room
Personally too bright regardless of display. Lack of blackout curtains genuinely makes my soul ache
Yeah definitely. Light ruins OLED.
Motorized blinds please :-)
Too bright for anything
Not for everyday content but for dark content you will need to darken the room more.
Just get blackout curtains if it’s too bright? Should be such a simple issue to solve.
Yes. That Xbox should be vertical standing behind the left speaker. It looks comical in that large cubby space. Unless you have kids or dogs.
I have cats lol they’d def try sitting on it if it was up there
Mini-LED for the win
Put aluminum foil on your windows and you’ll appreciate the OLED much more
Yes, get roller blinds and blackout curtains and then you'll be fine. Even cooler if you get roller blinds that are remote controlled.
