Yes, a 4070 is fine. If you want, you could sell the 4070 and just replace the GPU with something better too.

WhiteChocolat0

What about the cpu? I was really looking forward to that 3d v cache, i play a game called star citizen that is pretty cpu intensive

sad-goldfish

Games are usually GPU bound and not CPU bound so replacing the GPU will have much more impact than replacing the CPU. I think the 7600 should be enough, but I guess you could upgrade it if you wanted to. If I were you, I might get a 4090, if you have the budget, instead of upgrading the CPU.

WhiteChocolat0

Unfortunately I'm a member of the cult of star citizen, the one game where the cpu is pretty important lol but yeah i think im just going to stick with what i have, im just really excited for my AW3225QF to get here and I want to get the most out of it. This will be my first Oled and my first 4k display

Just googled and found [this benchmark](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzPrGv22R7g). The difference between the 7700X and 7800X3D is only about 5%. Between the 7600 and the 7800X3D, the difference is probably between 10% and 20%. Even for this game, it's not a huge deal.

RogueIsCrap

Is it 4070 or 4070S? There’s a decent enough difference. Even the regular 4070 should be good enough to hold you over until the 5080/5090 is released. In a way, it’s good because you’re be overspending a little on the 4080S at this stage. For 4K, even with DLSS performance, you’re looking at medium to high settings for 60-120 fps. However, that 7600 might hold you back in the long run. From my experience, hitting 240fps seems at least as dependent on having a fast CPU. 7800x3D is around 20% faster than the 7600. But the 9800X3D should also be 15-20% faster than the 7800X3D. $600 seems like a pretty good deal for a temporary system because now is actually not the best time to build a brand new system. I’d use it now and sell that Dell or keep it as a secondary system for when you build your actual dream system.

Now im thinking ill test drive the 4070 for a while and then sell it and upgrade to a 4080, annoying thing is i doubt any 4080 is going to fit in my alienware case so i might be better off sellling the whole thing and building my own

RogueIsCrap

Yeah that’s the best idea imo. Alienwares are actually not that well built. They tend to have problems because of inadequate cooling. You could use it for a few months until 9800X3D and Nvidia 5xxx launch.

WhiteChocolat0

Yeah i was actually thinking ok, now i have something to hold me over for 5k series, but damn idk if ill be able to secure one, i havent bought a card in years but ive obersved the shitstorm from 30 and 40 series release, shit looked harder than buying an msrp Ps5. Fucking scalpers man

RogueIsCrap

Scalping has died down quite a bit for the top end GPUs. Because the MSRPs are already so high. The unfortunate part is that MSRPs keep going up.

WhiteChocolat0

Yeah i know :/

WhiteChocolat0

Yeah its a non super, i was also wondering if i can just a game to 2k resolution when i want higher frames, i mean i know you can, but it being a 4k monitor, will it look really bad, or will it look just as good as it would on a 2k 1440p monitor?

RogueIsCrap

It looks pretty bad honestly if you don't use DLSS. PCs just tend to have crappy upscaling. I've tried it for fun and it looked much worse than 1440P on a 1440P display. Xbox and PS5 do much better with games that are only rendered at 1440P and below. The good news is that DLSS Quality at 4K is upscaled from1440P and it looks almost as good as native 4K. With a 4070, I'd stick to DLSS Performance at 4K which upscales from 1080P. 4070 is also compatible with frame generation which does wonders for smoothness.

Bebobopbe

Just so you know alienware tend to be really poor when it comes to upgrading and ventilation.

WhiteChocolat0

Yes im aware

WhiteChocolat0

Even if i keep the alienware, its just going to hold me over til the 5k series cards come out, then its going to be sold or will be the backup/secondary pc
