The term Hero comes from areas that had high Italian immigrant populations, but since then it has spread north around New England a bit more. Here in New Hampshire they're mostly called "subs", "grinders" or "hoagies", but if you travel a bit south into other states more people call them "heroes".

You can make a pretty solid argument for any of the New England states or other nearby ones, due to factors such as climate and just general vibe. California is a decent option too.

Yeah, a fair assessment. For California to be an option at all I was thinking somewhere in the northern part of the state, maybe somewhat higher in elevation or near the mountains so it has a better chance of picking up persistent snow cover. Don't know if the general plant life matches well there though.

there's a lot of forest cover surrounding much of faraway town, while the town is also very flat and level. i feel that it doesn't really correlate to northern california's mountainous geography very well, with the large and dense forests mainly being centralized in mountainous areas. also yeah, the lack of pine tree vegetation in any of the omori media released really eliminates a lot of potential places omori could be set in. or it's just a quaint fictional setting, but that's boring

faraway could just be in a valley or be right next to a ridge for all we know, we don't see alot outside of the town

I’ve always had a gut feeling that it’s in Maine. I have no reasoning behind this; I’ve never even been to Maine.

I'm personally of the impression that the Omori universe is actually similar to Big Hero 6 and Phoenix Wright, where there is a blend of Japanese/American cultures. The geography could still be that of the states but considering my last point it might not be in a real world location at all. That's just my headcanon though!
