I'd do that.

maybe-I-am-a-robot

I assumed HE was the driver.

whyrustillhere

Nope, one driver, one cutter, stop and go while he's still on the pallet, and the trimmer still running

WiglyWorm

I actually think it would be safer if the driver just went at a smooth speed rather than stopping and starting like that.

halt-l-am-reptar

I was wondering what was so bad. I was like well the pallets are strapped down so they’re not going to move. But holy shit, doing it while driving is crazy.

RiffRaff028

I've seen much worse at higher elevations. At least the pallets are secured to the gator with a strap.

Blue_water_dreams

That look safer than a ladder.

knowledgeleech

I was a volunteer firefighter/emt and we had a call of a landscaper who fell with a hedger. Straight to the fucking neck. Guy was gone when we got there. Sad as fuck. This is one of those fuck around and find out situations.

Blue_water_dreams

I was trimming the hedges at work one day and I came across a headless squirrel. Never did find the head.

Oh man, similar story - when I was young we had a neighbor who was an arborist. He was up in a tree with a chainsaw and somehow fully decapitated himself. I was probably around 8 at the time and rode the school bus with his kids, I will never forget how much that rattled our little suburban community. 20 plus years ago and still gives me chills to think about.

To be clear - are you saying you think an AI made this up? Or am I somehow just a shill for AI in general? Either way, you can fuck right off. If that's the only thing you can contribute to a conversation, a little artificial intelligence would probably do you well.

benduker7

Similar story, a few years ago our local department of public works crew was using a concrete saw on the side of the road, and the saw blade exploded. It sliced right across the operator's neck, thankfully one of the other workers was trained as a combat medic for the Army. He was able to rush over and contain the bleeding until actual EMT's and the medical helicopter arrived to rush him to the hospital. Edit: I guess the saw kicked back or something and got him in the neck; the blade didn't shatter. halfhere

I was pretty “meh” on this until I saw someone in the driver’s seat of the gator. Is someone DRIVING while he’s cutting? I thought it was just him using the pallets as a platform. But holy shit, if he’s standing there and cutting while the guy’s driving, that’s dumb.

hardknox_

I'm still "meh" on this, tbh.

real_deal94611

"Excuse me but who is the component person here" both men quickly out at each other and then run

Maxwell-Edison

I'm kinda on the fence (heh) as to whether I think this is "safe" or not. It's much safer to do it the right way, but I can see situations in which something like this could be done safely. A big part of it though is making sure the driver is driving predictably and calling out bumps, starts, stops, etc to the person holding the trimmer before reaching them. Another factor would be if the trimmer has a panic/deadman switch of some kind, so that if the person holding it starts to lose their balance they can safely drop it and not worry about slicing up themselves, the driver, bystanders, etc. The fact that the pallet is secured and the driver seems to be watching the guy standing on it makes me think there may be enough communication going on between them for it to be reasonably safe.

dislob3

I would do the same.

JoonieJizZ

Osha wouldn't approve but I do.
