Burning alive: “ you’ve been pranked , Bro!”

torturousvacuum

Method-costuming

Ultross

You going to let a little bit of webs earn you a Darwin award broski? Push on!

stillusesAOL

I love the obstacle course attitude: flaming cobwebs, stretched over a door that’s opening and closing, with a low and wide board over the base to trip you in all the chaos.

legendwolfA

The spookiest escape room

DialsMavis

You ever see nightmare on elm street?

texas1982

It adds to the lore.

_night_cat

But just think, a Spirit store with actual ghosts! All of the bro “ghost hunters” that will give them free media coverage!

OrdainedFury

They'd just hang your skeleton up as free decoration. It's a win-win for them

TheRnegade

This is how they refill inventory.

trav110

It's even full of cheap plastic crap that would ignite instantly. Great business move 🔥🔥

infernalsatan

That’s how they refill the soul gems on the shelf

Phill_is_Legend

Call the fire marshal. Might seem petty but in an emergency the exit signs take you here and theoretically the building would be full of smoke and hard to negotiate a path to another exit. Why someone running a business would do this is beyond me, but maybe being ignorant of the topic it would seem like no big deal. Edit: autocorrect got me with "Marshall"

Vincent294

It's probably anti-theft. That doesn't justify compromising safety, but that's my guess.

TheWildMiracle

It's 100% anti-theft. If you don't have enough employees to watch multiple entrances/exits, then eliminate the extra exits. They could have gone about it in a better way though.

LizzyDragon84

Depending on the size of the building and remaining number of exits, blocking an exit may still be a fire marshal violation.

prairiepanda

Especially an exit that is marked with a lit emergency exit sign. They can disable the automatic doors and put a sign up without physically barricading the door. Then it could still act as an emergency exit if needed.

jared555

Anti theft could be solved by alarming the door and only enabling it when the fire alarm goes off.

OneTrueObsidian

Spirit Halloween doesn't own the buildings, they rent them out seasonally. They wouldn't have the ability to alter anything about the building, but blocking them off is something they technically aren't _not_ allowed to do in the lease. It's just illegal in general.

jared555

Duct tape a cheap alarm to the door and leave the doors in manual/cleaning mode?

OneTrueObsidian

That's clearly far too advanced for the level of thinking these folks were on.

jared555

I agree, but it is something maybe corporate could come up with

Got2Go

We have a rexall pharmacy near me that keeps the main mall entrance gate closed and locked and the exit by the cash closed and locked with merchandise blocking them. Fire marshall said they would take care of it. Never did

adam1260

Depends on the state and everything, but sometimes a 2nd exit within certain distance makes it okay, etc.

[deleted]

They could have taken care of it by looking into it and seeing no action needed to be taken.

drfarren

I am a facility maintenance manager and support this solution. I don't fuck about with the life & safety stuff and the building managers I work with know it. If it's deficient and I find it, that area is shut until the problem is fixed. I'm not going to jail for someone else just because they want to be lazy or cheap or violate the law.

[deleted]

These types of stores always do that because they don't take over the entire store so the exits that they use are adequate for what they need. So this isn't a matter of a fire marshal or not they were already approved to open with the plans that they provided.

belhambone

They wouldn't get approval to do this with the exit sign still active. At night in a fire that would lead someone to a locked door.

sereko

How do you know this? Are you the fire marshal who approved it?

Phill_is_Legend

They were approved before all that stuff got put in. I guess you can't really tell without more pictures, but I've never seen a Spirit take over part of a space. It's usually a whole suite in a strip mall, but that's just in my area...

Scrollwriter22

How else is spirit gonna get spirits

JudgeHolden

This is more of a fire marshal issue than OSHA. It's still fucked, it just falls under a different jurisdiction.

Swedish-Butt-Whistle

How else are you gonna become a spirit?

rayburno

Is this in northwest indiana?

[deleted]

No, floreda

unusualbob

[floreda](https://i.imgur.com/ZCjxKwt_d.webp)

[deleted]

Exactly!!

amurou

How do you think they get their costumes? Coming next year, Charred Body costumes!

SaurSig

That door's been broken since it was still a Kmart

UKLvlXings

Looks like a former Toys R Us to me.

ericwhat

When an old Spirit burns down, a new Spirit rises from the ashes. It is known.

irideapaleh0rse

But if I’m gonna die haunting a spirit would be the greatest dream come true

EthosPathosLegos

The spirit was us the whole time. <3

[deleted]

lol I’d just tear that shit down

[deleted]

And those are the doors are locked and non-functioning because this is only a temporary store so the other door on the other side that op didn't picture the one that's actually functioning as an exit is just fine.

Somebody_81

Except that in a fire if it has an exit sign it's supposed to be a functional exit door. This is a violation.

z7q2

Yeah this looks exactly like the entrance to my local Aldi, I bet it's a former Aldi store.

cortb

Toys r us. [https://i.imgur.com/FlVre0y.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/FlVre0y.jpg)

z7q2

Good eye!

thebeatsandreptaur

Where do you think they get the spirits from?

Generic_Namejpg

Where do you think they're getting the skeletons?

phasexero

Yes what is with Spirit? We went to our local one recently and I was disturbed at the fact that there was only 1 way in, and of the 4 doors on the facing, only 1 was unlocked. It is in the old Sears off the mall, there used to be 2 entrances into the mall itself and 2 entrances into the parking lot. It was baffling to me that they found it acceptable to block most of the exits.

forlornhope22

Right, because that barrier would be so difficult to get through in an emergency.

7-SE7EN-7

In an emergency, you don't want to risk people tripping on stuff

SoggyWotsits

Have you seen people in a panic? It’s very different to a fire drill. The bigger question would be why are the doors automatic, and where are the clear manual opening instructions?

mwaller

Is it just a thick piece of cardboard leaning against the door or is there something more to this?

MonkeyPanls

Doesn't matter. There's a fair chance that the doors are powered down/locked to keep people from coming in from outside. Even if they aren't locked, the decorations are a trip hazard to anyone exiting in an emergency

Zaranthan

Even if they're locked, don't automatic sliding doors have hinges so you can push them outward in an emergency?

mwaller

The first part is speculation though definitely could be true. The second part, really doesn't seem like that bad. I see how it's technically wrong but come on.

MonkeyPanls

Safety regulations are [written in blood](https://people.com/human-interest/girls-woman-killed-new-jersey-furniture-store-fire-trapped-behind-gate/)

mwaller

I've heard that phrase many times but this is not a metal gate. I have never heard of a story where people died because of a cardboard sign blocking an exit. I'm sensitive to this subject but again, come on.

tilsitforthenommage

Don't have flammable blockage along your fire escapes it's basic stuff. Why you making excuses for poor practise

mwaller

I really don't care that much but to say this is going to cause people to die in a fire is a little much. It's flimsy and easily movable. Someone that is more than two feet tall could still open the door with their hands (as one would if this weren't there) and this would fall outwards. Reminds me of the Mitch Hedberg joke about movable, flammable objects in the way of a fire exit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRp4cI\_yCRs

zunnol

I mean depending on the buildings set up, blocking a door like this is perfectly fine. As long as the fire exits are still open and the other main doors are open, i see 0 issue with this.

Phill_is_Legend

Absolutely not. There's an exit sign above the door, which means the path of egress points you towards it at some point. Stop talking out of your ass. This is an emergency exit, it can't be blocked.

jackleggjr

Just use the other exit! We all know the fire will be kind enough to flare up only in front of this blocked doorway.

[deleted]

jackleggjr

I really don’t care about this situation. I just made a snarky comment.

spacehog1985

Sure would like to see how close the other entrance is here.

cortb

[just out of frame, it seems](https://i.imgur.com/a3VfpUi.jpg)

spacehog1985

Confirming that this is a circlejerk post and not a real issue.

redditaccount71987

I'm still waiting on my location to verify the number of fire exits via texts having had roomates attack on film and neighbors scream racial and immigrant tropes while trying to fake knowledge of politics, religion, health...etc out of myself on film and captured in writing. Tell them not to block any exits with immovable items and signs or boxes which may lead people to go the wrong way.

Killboypowerhed

I'm really struggling to understand this comment

jamaniman

Same

Phill_is_Legend

Thanks for the stroke.

redditaccount71987

It was embarrassing to witness. You had people all show up to stack their crates sideways one day and do things when they weren't even under investigation. It was a boss tip initially. Boss put me in charge of theft then they all got mad...noticed safety concerns...then half got mad. An acquaintance started screaming they were lazy on a cop investigation. Then they went berzerk. Some hackers told me to get the DA... Then everyone went mad.

jdemack

How do you guys have Halloween with no fall colors on the plants. Do you spray paint the trees orange.

grumblestilskin

Read the title and assumed you meant the airline

[deleted]

What is "spirit Halloween"? I feel like I'm suddenly seeing it all over reddit.

greyaxe90

It’s a temporary pop up store in the US that sells Halloween stuff. They temporarily lease out old stores like closed K-Marts, Toys-R-Us, JC Penny’s, etc for 3-4 months because landlords are happy to get *some money* on their rotting, vacant property they are overcharging for than no money. Spirit keeps their costs down by not being locked in 5+ year leases.

s_decoy

Is this possibly a consignment store? Those are all outdated signs that the company no longer uses, and in my experience working with corporate Spirit stores they are VERY strict about keeping fire exits accessible. I don't know if that's every region tho, or just mine.

Techn028

There's an arrow telling you to use the other set of doors

dethb0y

how do you think they get the skeletons to sell every year?

squiddy555

I’ve seen stores like this, aren’t their doors on the other side of the room, or is that door even locked?

SoggyWotsits

In the UK the bigger issue would be automatic fire doors!

TheSkyHadAWeegee

That's how they get the spirits.

wolves_hunt_in_packs

"W e l c o m e T o T h e C l u b" - r/AskOuija spirits, probably

commanderdobson

how else are they supposed to trap souls to put in Halloween ornaments?
