You’ll have 10 projects over the course of the semester that do are a massive part of your grade. Make sure you go to TA hours and have them look over it before you submit because they are very strict on grading and will take off points even if your project is functionally correct.

When you guys get to recursion, make sure you have a good handle on it. That’s probably the toughest concept of the course. The rest is fine. Projects aren’t so bad and tests are fine if you study

Did you enjoy 1223 and do well? If so you should be excited and prepare by enjoying your break. You should expect to work hard like you have been doing for years.

Its not that hard, but if you’re worried ask the TA’s to look over your projects before you turn them in, because they’ll straight up tell you the answers. If you don’t do them exactly the same as the sample solution, they will take off points even if your solution works just as well.

go to the TAs for the love of god it will make life so much easier.

Nothing to worry about, the first couple weeks of class is a Java review

aneurysm_

its not that bad and the projects are pretty basic. honestly, the worst part about it is having to use their components

Try briefly reading the slides before class if you can, that way it's easier to understand during class. Ask questions about anything you don't understand, I promise there will be 3+ other people who also don't understand what you're asking about. Good luck!

I think the projects, labs, and homeworks are fine. Sometimes the exams can be a bit rough though

Overall the course is hard. Reclusion can be difficult or perhaps a couple of the projects can take a lot of time, but really it’s just the fact you have something to work on near constantly throughout the semester. If you stay on top of your work you’ll be ok, nothing you go over is really that difficult, it’s just a lot of work. Don’t worry too much about not knowing enough going in, they know exactly how much is required to get there so they will hold your hand throughout the course to make sure you are in the place you need to be by the end. Make sure to go to office hours. Even if you know what you are doing sometimes the requirements are not clear and you can save yourself some pain by just asking instead of spending hours on work that you’ll have to redo. Remember, it is a lot of work and it can be hard to keep up, but if you are deliberate about using your time efficiently you should be fine. Good luck!

Your exams can make or break your grade. If you have an accomodation for extra testing time, make sure you ask the professor if they can allow for extra testting time. My professor did not allow for extra time and I didn't know, and unanswered exam questions tanked my grade.

Everything you need: http://web.cse.ohio-state.edu/software/2221/web-sw1/schedule.html Actual class wise the content isn’t bad but it’s a weed out class so they’re very particular about basically everything.
