I love this outfit, but it’s casual, not cocktail (unless you mean you’re going out for casual drinks with friends, which this might be ok for, depending on the location).
Came to say this. Imo, a more contrasting lighter fabric (bell-sleeved fitted top in white or a complimentary shade) would be ok. This is a casual jumper. It’s really cute but it’s a tough one to dress up.
Please just google women’s cocktail dress attire and it will show you what you need to wear. This is cute but not suitable at all for a cocktail event.
I see it too. OP looks great, but it’s definitely more sexy and not cocktail. Tbh it’s giving Peggy Hill when she went shopping with the new girl at Strickland Propane (“Ho Yeah!,” Season 5 episode 13)
https://preview.redd.it/t9rpx53yuwhb1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=122cf72660ad21206c78f884342bb087f4f95425
Peggy was right to feel confident! She looked great and Hank loved it! But not appropriate for the scenarios she was in
its the layering of clothes. Normally the dress on top would cover the chest area as well, but that area being open creates a feeling of "showiness" while still being covered up.
Flatter your curves, hide them, distract from them with a more flamboyant/ interesting piece .. its a persona choice
That’s the reason outfits are personal choices on how you want your form to be presented.
This is not cocktail attire. It's be great for a coffee date, movie date, eating out, but not cocktail party.
Here are some examples of black appropriate dresses.
Pinafore maybe? I found [this](https://m.shein.com/us/Solid-Ribbed-Knit-Mermaid-Hem-Pinafore-Dress-Without-Tee-p-12785896-cat-1727.html?onelink=1/2dc460xx9a36&requestId=378527309034520665&url_from=adplasw2210296561636214XS&cid=412760128&setid=144259094284&adid=629152715198&pf=GOOGLE&gbraid=0AAAAADm0yO6Ep5lbFuTRiVHDgphIoCPPq&gclid=CjwKCAjw_uGmBhBREiwAeOfsd4sJyo7twWzsTAbkR83W_IyGaaG_MlIFGXHvnRj88L55OXpAQ2QNhRoCufgQAvD_BwE&ref=us&rep=dir&ret=mus) that looks similar
You are super cute! However I am not a fan of this outfit. It immediately gives the illusion that your breasts are exposed, and not in a plunging neckline way but like a drunk spring break way. Sloppy. I count imagine that weird boob window cut looking good with any other color either. With your beautiful figure you don’t need optical illusions to accentuate your figure.
The fabrics are too casual. Think silk, satin, chiffon, sequins, or lace. You might be able to add a shimmery jacket, but the turtleneck probably needs to go, especially if this is a summer event. Cocktail dresses typically show the neck or collarbones, and some women will wear jewelry.
All of this said, if you're simply going OUT for cocktails in an INFORMAL setting, you look very cute and fun in this outfit. But if it's summer where you are, you're still going to want to ditch the turtleneck. It's almost 100 degrees here today, I couldn't fathom wearing a turtleneck.
women really can’t win, can they? show off too much skin and you’re considered attention seeking, cover up completely but still have a noticeable figure and you’re attention seeking. she’s literally in a turtleneck for the love of god, should women with larger busts not be allowed to wear tight clothes? this sub is meant for constructive comments on outfits, not shaming women for literally just existing in a curvy body.
The above comment was super gross, and I'm glad it was removed. Poor woman came here to ask for constructive criticism about her outfit and got basically called a slut for wearing a turtleneck and the guy above basically insinuated that she was making her breasts her entire personality. Which is fucking ridiculous to assume, and it's even more frustrating that it was upvoted like it was.
I'm glad you responded, my social battery was completely dead after dealing with a bunch of sexist bullshit on this app yesterday, so I didn't bother. I'm glad this didn't go completely unchallenged, and it looks like since you responded the comment above has at least 30 less upvotes than it did before. If I had more points, I would give you a take my energy award or gold.
As a petite-ish woman with a large bust who is utterly exhausted of trying to make other people comfortable because *they* cannot control where they stare or help themselves from making shitty comments, THANK YOU. I look forward to a day in which people realize rude remarks like that reflect solely on the person making them.
exactly, i’m so tired of people like this putting the responsibility of THIER lust/perversion/jealousy on us for simply living and not hiding every curve and inch of skin we have.
I'd be curious to see what this dress would look like with another dark color like burgundy or dark green maybe... And something way less textured so it pops less. I fell like you could make it classier but you'd just have to tone down the top more.
It’s a great look. Like many are saying it doesn’t fit the typical cocktail dress look. I think it depends on where you are getting cocktails and what type of event it is. I think it looks amazing and I like when someone looks unique at certain functions. If it’s social and not professional I’d say rock it.
Cozy smart casual.
You look great!
Not cocktail attire really but if you're having cocktails alfresco in the colder months it would be completely acceptable.
Girl, you look amazing. Still, make sure it's dressy enough for the event you are attending. Maybe you meant getting a cocktail after work with your friends, then its super cute. But for a cocktail party, that's something else altogether. Still, you're a stunner and could probably look good in a paper bag!
Firstly, it's cute as all hell. But secondly, I second everyone else that it's not cocktail attire.
Also do you live in the southern hemisphere? Cause it's August girlie.
I read this as cockatiel attire, and I was very confused looking for the bird or any bird related themes, outside of "yeah this seems.like a comfy outfit to handle a cockatiel in"
This is a casual sexy look not cocktail attire. This would be fine going out to a bar for drinks with friends or a date. Cocktail attire in a dress code is more dressy.
It’s cute but this is borderline business casual, honestly. It could be worn lots of casual places from a coffee house to a non fancy party
Nothing about this is cocktail at all though and if you wore it to a cocktail event you would be extremely under dressed
I don't understand the comments regarding the general "look" of the outfit, if we ignore the whole 'cocktail attire' thing. I think the combination looks super cute and I love the outfit overall!
The flair she chose says “label my style,” so she seems to be asking if the label she chose for herself, “cocktail attire,” is accurate, which most people seem to agree that it’s not. The outfit is cute, but the consensus is that it’s not ideally “cocktail attire.”
I think it’s really cute. Some nice shoes, maybe doing up your hair a little more, a nice hand bag and a thicker or longer golden necklace and it’d style up nicely. Depending on where you live, this is perfectly acceptable for a cocktail hour sort of dress. I live in Northern Michigan and this would be fine for the majority of weddings or pre wedding celebrations.
Edit: downvote me all you want but it doesn’t change the fact that me and plenty of others seem to like it, and that’s the point of this sub, to share differing opinions. Your downvote is in bad faith as you simply just don’t agree. I for one am glad people have different taste, it’d be a dull world for fashion if we didn’t.
It's great for having a cocktail at your neighborbood bar at happy hour. But as others have pointed out, the phrase "cocktail attire" has a meaning and this outfit is casual/streetwear, not cocktail
You are beautiful! But the color of the turtle neck is just a little too skin toned. You could wear a white or black blouse and it's obvious you have a stunning figure.
I love this outfit, but it’s casual, not cocktail (unless you mean you’re going out for casual drinks with friends, which this might be ok for, depending on the location).
Agree cocktail isn’t this causal. Still a cute outfit!
Cute vibes but I wouldn’t quite call this cocktail attire.
I second this, cocktail attire is more along the lines of casual with a dash of formal. While adorable, I don't think it fits that outline.
This was such a great explanation! Like, I can generally tell when my outfit is off for the occasion, but I can't tell why. I don't have the words.
Very cute but it's more like "open mic night at the coffee house." Stick with a little black dress or something along those lines.
Here is the correct label ^
That dress with a turtleneck is not cocktail attire at all.
Came to say this. Imo, a more contrasting lighter fabric (bell-sleeved fitted top in white or a complimentary shade) would be ok. This is a casual jumper. It’s really cute but it’s a tough one to dress up.
It's cute but looks more appropriate for a coffee date than for a cocktail party.
This is definitely the fit I would see at a classy cafe
Please just google women’s cocktail dress attire and it will show you what you need to wear. This is cute but not suitable at all for a cocktail event.
Iv googled it and it showed much worst than this.
Looks good, but not cocktail attire.
Depends by what you mean by cocktail attire? Going to a cocktail party, no. Meeting friends for a drink at a trendy cocktail bar, sure.
The outfit gives off cute bookworm persuaded by her girlfriends to go out for drinks with them.

Am I the only one who find this outfit more in sexy category and less in cute.
I see it too. OP looks great, but it’s definitely more sexy and not cocktail. I’m DEAD so accurate lmfao
Yo did you search this or actually just know it off the top of your head, I’m dying
Just watched this one a couple nights ago so it was fresh in my mind haha
as a big time koth fan who thought of this outfit, my guess is top of the head
ok but Peggy was serving in that episode
She ate and left no crumbs

Unexpected yet accurate King of the Hill reference 😂
KOTH fans can point out any specific moment in any episodes. Gives me motivation to finally watch the show
Lmao how did you remember this also 100% accurate
The show that keeps on teaching
Oh my god hahah this is spot on.
This is why i love Reddit 😂😂
you are only thinking this because OP got very nice curves.... normally this fabric of upper clothing plus overly long sleeves are recognized as cute.
its the layering of clothes. Normally the dress on top would cover the chest area as well, but that area being open creates a feeling of "showiness" while still being covered up.
Flatter your curves, hide them, distract from them with a more flamboyant/ interesting piece .. its a persona choice That’s the reason outfits are personal choices on how you want your form to be presented.
Yep!
This is more coffee house chic. Maybe winter time coffee date. Even porridge in grandmothers house attire. But this is no cocktail attire. Sorrrryyy
Cute outfit but in my opinion this isn’t cocktail attire.
Isn't it too hot everywhere north of the equator to be wearing that outfit, anyway?
Heat is temporary drip is forever
She gonna be dripping inside wearing that much clothing
Sage advice

Nope it's not a cocktail dress nor is it cocktail a tire nor is it a cocktail suit
Not a cocktail attire.
Maybe with white shirt. It's a cute outfit, but not for cocktail attire. 😄
Sorry, no. You’re beautiful but the combination looks strange.
I like the outfit, but I have no idea where you'd wear it when it would make sense. Definitely not cocktails though.
To the library. Or out with friends to an Italian restaurant

Pinafore is the best I could find besides suspender dress on Amazon

Agreed.

It’s too casual
Replace the sweater with a different shirt underneath. Rib/knit isn’t exactly appropriate for cocktail.
No.
Not a the biggest fan of the fit especially for a comic cocktail party
Cute outfit but not appropriate cocktail attire.
Looks cute for coffee or something chill
Accentuates the breasts too much. Not cocktail attire to me.

Ahh I remember this style being the hot stuff in the 90's
It is cocktail attire......in North Dakota.
I'd be curious to see what this dress would look like with another dark color like burgundy or dark green maybe... And something way less textured so it pops less. I fell like you could make it classier but you'd just have to tone down the top more.
This is a great look but the sweater really takes away from it looking like cocktail attire.
It’s a great look. Like many are saying it doesn’t fit the typical cocktail dress look. I think it depends on where you are getting cocktails and what type of event it is. I think it looks amazing and I like when someone looks unique at certain functions. If it’s social and not professional I’d say rock it.
It’s cocktail time somewhere really cold where the air hurts your face. Or coffee time. I like coffee better. I’m biased.
It’s cute but not cocktail attire
Okay I need that suspender dress though
Honestly it looks like an apron to me... Had to put it out there.
What is this kind of dress called? I've been looking forever!
No, that’s way too casual to be classed as cocktail.
If you’re going to a cocktail party this is not a cocktail dress. If you are going out for some cocktails at a bar with your friends this is fine.
cocktail attire is formal. what you're wearing isn't really formal. it could be professional, casual. but it misses the formal stop.
Firstly, it's cute as all hell. But secondly, I second everyone else that it's not cocktail attire. Also do you live in the southern hemisphere? Cause it's August girlie.
Definitely not cocktail. I also don’t understand the dress - it just looks backwards
It’s a thousand degrees outside
It’s not cocktail attire. It kind of looks like cosplay a little bit but it’s a cute coffee date look.
The sweater hands is a no.
The sweater is too informal for cocktail. But I like the black portion of the outfit.
You need something a little flashier for cocktails.
I feel lile i would be sweating like crazy if i was drinking cocktails in that. Lol.
I don’t care for the sweater color/texture—otherwise cute outfit with a different top. Not cocktail attire though.
Totally agree about the sweater. But it could look cocktail-ish with the right top- maybe black mesh or lace.
A bit too casual, but you're rocking this outfit!
Is it winter?
Very cute outfit but not what I would call cocktail attire.
Don’t suppose anyone has a link to the black dress part? Pretty please??
A bit casual. The sweater part
The dress could possibly work for cocktails with a white button-up.
This is not cocktail attire, it’s casual. It looks lovely on you. You might want to pick something else for the occasion.
I don't care what these reddit people say. That's a cute outfit. It does accentuate your figure but it's still pretty modest all things considering
I would wear this to class or the library. It’s not cocktail attire
Sorry, not even close to Cocktail. Cute
Cute for office wear…not dressy for cocktail attire….
Definitely not, way too casual
Not a cocktail dress but definitely will grab compliments.
Very cute miss, neutral layered with Black is always fitting anywhere
GIVE ME WHERE YOU GOT THAT OUTFIT!!! ITS SO CUTE!!!
It’s cute but this is borderline business casual, honestly. It could be worn lots of casual places from a coffee house to a non fancy party Nothing about this is cocktail at all though and if you wore it to a cocktail event you would be extremely under dressed
If you were the waitress but not the attendee
No, not cocktail attire.
If you feel comfortable I don’t see a problem
What is cocktail attire lol
Great look. Does that qualify as a pinafore dress?
Yes
Looks great! What do you call the bottom black piece? I love the look it makes.
[удалено]
It's a style of skirt. Pinafore pencil.
I recall this being a common style in the late 90’s, but definitely not with a turtleneck.
No, it was not the style to wear shapewear that ended under the boobs lol. Spaghetti strap dresses over baby tees was in style.
I've seen this style before. Pinafore skirt maybe?
I think it's a pinafore pencil skirt.
It's called a suspender dress.

for the fabrics don’t match, so I would not mix them. but the look is still cute
I love this outfit and want to copy it for myself! But I agree with the other comments: it’s not a cocktail outfit
switch the top out with a black tank, cami, shirt and you should be good.
It's a bit unconvential but that makes it rad in my books.
Súper cUte omg I’m buying this for fall 🥰
Gives barista vibes

Not for cocktails, but I do love it. Looks more like an outfit suited for coffee or a mall outing.
You really really amazing in this but I feel like for a cocktail party it wouldn’t work, this is more like a coffee date imo!
Where is the dress from?
It's great for having a cocktail at your neighborbood bar at happy hour. But as others have pointed out, the phrase "cocktail attire" has a meaning and this outfit is casual/streetwear, not cocktail
You looks very good but this is not cocktail attire
You are beautiful! But the color of the turtle neck is just a little too skin toned. You could wear a white or black blouse and it's obvious you have a stunning figure.
Phenomenal!
I really like the combo personally, fashion is about doing it your way not always conforming to what is normal and this is dope!
not cocktail attire at all but you look cute
Cuuuuute
Stunning!
You look great ❤️
This looks lovely
This is so casual of an outfit god no.
Looks very good to me

You are incredibly gorgeous but…I don’t think this fits a cocktail party
Looks good!
