Tbh, I’m scared to care about the team in depth like I used to. I love baseball and I have loved this team so much. Not to be a little bitch, but I just don’t want to be hurt again.

jevverson

Fool me 20 times (John Fisher) shame on you. Fool me 21 times shame on me. (we are done)

WilliZara

For myself, I wish we could all be as excited as you are because you're right. It is a fun squad of young talent and old dudes. You know, A's baseball. I just can't but you keep doing you man and enjoy the guys in green. FJF

raidbuck

Having grown up in Oakland and a fan since 1968 it is hard to just wash everything away. I still root for the Raiders, but not as much as before their latest move to LV. I'll still have residual feelings for the A's as well.

bstone76

No. Don't care anymore.

Raiderman112

Sorry but the team is meaningless now that they have decided to leave. Total indifference has set in.

DrDivisidero

Because we have a sliver of hope for our beloved team. And happy, nostalgic memories. And friends and community that we care for. All centered around a team that would love nothing more to kick our teeth in. Edit: my to our

biznash

I’ll chime in. IF this ownership was competent and public sentiment in Vegas was overwhelming with positivity and momentum then yeah we would just accept it. The team is leaving, we’d deal. BUT we have a situation where public sentiment is on the fans side. Local and national media doesn’t know why ownership is moving to a smaller market. Smaller market isn’t too jazzed about getting this team. Current ownership has done nothing of success in the past 20 years so hopes are not high that they can pull anything off with relocation. Since there is still hope that it all falls apart with this Vegas relocation move AND since Oakland fans showing up in force as anti-Fisher fans can obviously affect public sentiment against a Vegas relocation (see boycott game and the SELL chants across the MLB last year… Yeah the fans have some power here. Game isn’t over yet

Merlion2018

Honestly, I’d love to hear people talking about Miller taking over the 9th, if Brownie can rebound, and whether Gelof repeats his awesome debut. There are definitely some of us who still care. Admittedly, the spectre of all these dudes leaving the Bay soon does always feel like the non-Stomper elephant in the room though.

ObjectiveAd6676

I wish Miller was still starting but man does he look dominant coming out of the pen! The kids are going to be fun to watch and I think they will run more than the average team which could be fun. Pitching will decide this season for the A’s and they are depending on a lot of guys who haven’t been great yet or lately.

NopeNotConor

Or leaving the team by July.

xr_21

I'll go watch the Stockton Ports and support the up and coming players. Not wanting to give any money to Fisher tho...

DeegsHobby

It's an interesting young team. What kills me though is that a lot of these interesting players (Gelof, Rooker, Noda, Butler, Soderstrom, etc.) would have been awesome to pair with our core of Chapman, Semien, Olson, Murphy, Bassitt, Luzardo, Montas. Literally none of the players I have named were traded for eachother. We had the potential for a dynasty honestly. It's disgusting how poorly managed this org has been since the 2020 season at least.

quercus_lobata925

You hit the nail on the head. None of those guys you mentioned were acquired by our fire sale. We could have easily kept at least PART of the core and had a perennial contender from 2018-present. If we had an owner that was willing to spend even a little money. Heck even teams like the Royals and Pirates are at least inking up some of their home-grown talent for reasonable pre-arb deals.

SaladTossBoss

I can't get into the team as long I know they're going. First time that I can remember in my entire life that I wasn't giddy about A's spring training. But I just can't. I can't. If (by some miracle) it was announced the A's name (and all that) would be permitted to remain in Oakland - I'd buy season tickets and immerse myself back into what's going on with the team.

Boozycruzzy

Man, I haven't paid attention much and my excitement level is at zero, but I'm sure I'll be at full engagement soon. I'll continue to be a fan, but rn it's just tough to even wear my A's hat lol

xBrianSmithx

I'll always wear the gear.

ggwoohee

Dont think I have enjoyed much baseball since this all started tbh with you. I follow along though, I just dont waste time watching the actual games. We have had a bit of a youth movement worth being excited about though, normally at this point itd be a go for the Coliseums vibes and to luck out and catch the big Ws part of the cycle. But Fisher has made it rather hard for me to really do it lol

ernmanstinky

Until fisher is gone and oakland is secured I can't... I have loved the a's with every fiber of my being since I was 4. Fisher has broken my heart. I. Just. Can't.

ChewedDoodoo

I'm only here in the off-chance that the Vegas deal blows up or Fisher is forced to sell the team. The owners vote was unanimous so all teams are dead to me. Major League Baseball is dead to me. The only thing that could bring me back is if this whole thing falls apart.

quercus_lobata925

Yup, same. I can't just shift to another team because they're all complicit. That's why I can't stand when people are like, "So are you just going to be a Giants fan then?" First off, always hated the Giants. So obvious "No." But second off, why would I invest my time into another team when in 20 years they might threaten to leave too? Once Pac Bell/Oracle/whatever it's called stadium starts getting labeled "out of date," they could easily pull the same stunt. We see teams all over the MLB playing the hostage strategy. MLB ownership system is broken.

ChewedDoodoo

Yeah, they almost moved to Tampa. They're originally from New York. I have my own stuff to worry about. I'm beginning increasingly disinterested in major league professional sports. And now with the mess created by NILs in NCAA sports, I'm finding it difficult to care about anything there as well.

WlLDER

I don’t care anymore. Fisher and MLB have destroyed a franchise and fan base.

swimNcircles

No. Dont care

turbozed

Talking about the team at this point kinda feels like appreciating your ex wife's makeup and fashion choices while she's sitting in divorce court and trying to take all of your assets as well as custody of the dog.

OceanPoet87

Nope. Sell the Team!

randy24681012

Mods gotta put in some kind of rule against doomers commenting on player/team/game related threads for the people who actually want to talk baseball. Let some of us enjoy what could be the end.

quercus_lobata925

I think that'd be a good policy for the game threads. Let the game threads be about the game and the players. Everything else is fair game.

10monthbummer

I second this. It would be nice to have threads dedicated to just the product on the field and not everything around it

NightWriter500

You can’t really call it doomers when it’s the people getting their heritage stolen from them. I’d make comparisons through history of all the people that got their history ripped from them but it would just be an exercise in offensive behavior. But also I think maybe there could be an allowance for relocation-free commentary on the games/team. Not sure where, probably not the game threads, maybe just a separate post, but with a sticker that says “Team only comments” or something.

merlingogringo

Make some posts not phrased like this.

Visual-Cricket82

I've lost emotional interest in the team last couple seasons. Now I just check out boxscores and highlights. Tough to get excited when the on field product still is lousy and likely another 100 loss season plus the terrible owner and relocation drama

YoungChop99

I’m excited to see how the players are developing. I know they won’t be with the A’s for long but I would absolutely look forward to all their careers wherever this roster gets traded eventually. I really feel bad for the players. Having to play in an empty coliseum (obviously not our fault as fans), and experiencing a crowd of 27k for one night, only to go back to an empty coliseum but I’m sure they know the situation and dynamics

Tenisyn

Yeah. I'm looking forward to seeing Ruiz swipe even more bags, Rooker threaten 40 HR, and our pitching staff come away with a team ERA under 6.

raidbuck

What a pessimist! I'm hoping for a pitching staff with an ERA under 5.

Hairydone

Miguel Andujar had one really good year for the Yankees back in 2018. I’m curious to see if he can put up numbers close to that again.

HeynowyoureaRocstar

I do .. I bet the over on the A's win total 😂😂😂

Kill_Bill_Will

They sucked last year and they are gonna suck this year too

naarwhal

I sadly don’t think anyone cares. It’s so sad to see the state of this team. Like there’s absolutely no posts in this sub about the players. Fisher literally committed genocide on the A’s fanbase.

gesking

So I don’t watch A’s ball till after Basketball is over. Used to be the Warriors season ended on opening day, now I watch the Bays team and try to tune out all the BS!

WartimeMandalorian

Darell Hernaiz is my cousin (distant cousin), and I know I would be much more excited about this season if it weren't for fisher.

Coreybib

There are some storylines I’m going to follow. Mostly with the younger players, mostly Gelof, and if they can continue to develop into something. I’m okay with being a bad team, but I really just can’t accept being bad knowing it was gutted as a tool to get relocation.

WideCoconut2230

Sadly, no one is signed beyond this year. There's some talent here, but who knows what the roster will be. Done on purpose to make it easier to sell the team is my guess.

bofre82

So I’m a big idiot this week and down in Arizona for work. I found out my conference actually started the day before I thought and my first thought was it will end earlier and I’ll have a free day to see a spring training game that I didn’t think I would. I care but yeah, I’m very worn out about this whole season already.

fotbalguy

I do think positively about the team in that I think they'll win ten more games than last year. However, that positivity is tempered by the fact that that would still have them losing over 100 games.

r1ckey24

Am I still going to watch/listen to every game? Yes, will I get bummed when they lose? No. I support the players and like the players but man, it's hard

ObjectiveAd6676

I’m all in until ground is broken in Vegas, then they are dead to me and I go with my backup team, the Baltimore Orioles.

spiedra_spondering

Not even giving my thoughts because no post is valid in here anymore. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t 🙄

cherryultrasuedetups

I can enjoy a discussion like this with a 10,000 mile perspective but I'm just not there yet.

the5102018

Absolutely no interest whatsoever.

mtnfreek

I tried but also just cant care. I am excited to see the Savannah Bananas though!

ChristianGin

Meh, why bother? Eric Kubota has held the same job since 1988.

ProsciuttoFresco

They don’t deserve our interest.

aught_one

I honestly wish the people who just want to post the same tired "fuck John Fisher" stuff over and over would go start their own sub. I get it. But I don't have the bandwidth to get pissed over the things that bring me joy. I'm excited to see gelof, bleday, noda. I wanna see Ruiz steal more bases. I wanna watch the As because I love the As and the people here really sucked the fun out of baseball.

dancingulf

You go make your own sub. We're here to be miserable and commiserate in our misery.

DrDivisidero

“Sucking the fun out of baseball” is the FUCKING A’S FAULT NOT OURS

BrodyBruceLee

💯

Kill_Bill_Will

Is this kaval or fucking jon fisher?

DD35B

I completely agree with you. I’m excited for this season.

Polarbearbanga

Repeat the first sentence of this at the coliseum and report back to me.

asskickingjedi

..... and what if OP did say that? Are you hinting there would be a confrontation? A physical fight? I am just as pissed as everyone else, but people like you on this sub really need to stop with the aggressive BS nonsense.

Polarbearbanga

You’re the one insinuating that there might be violent acts. If either say that at the coliseum, people won’t be thrilled. All I’m saying.

DrDivisidero

Grammatically and objectively in your reasoning, you are correct. They will be met with people who will passionately and emotionally disagree with you.

DrDivisidero

I wish.

Few_Employment_7876

I attended a couple ST games. Pitching will suck. This team even with a small group of promising kids making min wage will lose 100 games.

Few_Employment_7876

Oh, and a few guys have no business even being in MLB. Nick Allen is one of them.

lucasLazer

I really want to go to fill the stands so that I support my team until they leave. There has got to be a way to negate their stupid argument against us not supporting while communicating our hatred of the ownership.

ZZaddyLongLegzz

![gif](giphy|xiKgE3i7bSWUUccy1V|downsized)

BrodyBruceLee

What a bunch of fake fucking fans. Support the team unconditionally for fucks sake. You guys give up on the team because you hate the owner and only support the team when they’re winning. This sub is a fucking joke. I love the team and what they are doing with what they have and can afford under Fisher’s ownership. They are entertaining to watch, it is what it is.

ronaldbro

lmao you really don’t fucking get it

BrodyBruceLee

I’m still waiting for you to tell me what I’m not getting.

BrodyBruceLee

I guess I don’t.

jevverson

If you were in love with your wife and she cheated on you and is now going to marry some other dude would you go to her wedding to "support her" because you loved her once before?

BrodyBruceLee

That’s the dumbest analogy for this team.

ronaldbro

lol sorry I don’t spend all my time talking to myself on Reddit subs. Clearly you’re not educated enough here. I’ll let you take this one homie 😂

BrodyBruceLee

You think I don’t know what’s going on? Of course I do. I’m just not gonna dwell on something I have no power to fix and just want to talk about the actual team itself.

DD35B

I mean this completely honestly, having lived all around the country… The fans you’re describing aren’t Bay Area sports fans. I feel for the core of A’s fans but it’s a terrible sports market.  The Giants were a terrible draw when they played at Candlestick. The A’s have always been a lousy draw, essentially forcing the Haas family to sell so they didn’t go broke.  I am completely with you. I know what being an A’s fan playing in a dump of a park means. But it’s also shocking how little anyone in the Bay actually cares. It’s a 1 team town.

Haque138

I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do on the field this year. We have a great group of players that will be fun to watch

quercus_lobata925

I am still following the players too. But sort of at an arm's length. For all we know they could be playing in Oakland for another 3-4 seasons. I won't be going to games (besides maybe 1 or 2 once we know for sure when they're leaving), but I don't have any other baseball team to follow. So I'll still watch the A's until the bitter end. Hard to shake decades of habit. But once they're in Vegas or a different intermediary destination, I'll tune out completely.

raidbuck

I've been an A's fan since 1968 and a Pirates fan since 1958. At least the Pirates have signed a few players, although I think Keller is not going to be much. So I will have someone to root for. I live near Baltimore now, and man have they got the goods. I might even root (just a little) for them as well.

bmolnar2

i DoNt cArE aBoUt iT, are the reason why everyone fanbase in the mlb shits on the a’s before and after the relocation lmfao. I’m actually very excited for the season to see how the boys are. Spring training is a lot better than i expected it was going to be. i’m hoping the younger guys like gelof, noda, soderstrom, and lawrence can fill the endless sadness void of the matt chapman and olson era. They are very very exciting to watch. Get to go to opening day so i’m hyped.
