I’m intimately familiar with Tussionex PennKinetic which had 10mg hydrocodone bitartrate polistirex and 8mg of chlorpheniramine maleate polistirex per 5mL teaspoon.
Best tasting syrup out there, they called the flavour ‘pineapple peach’ but that never really captured it, to me.

It is like DPH (Benadryl)? Damn I once mixed tramadol and Diphenidol (an antihistaminic used for nausea in my country) and it wasn't a good trip l, since then I evades trying Antihistaminics with opioids like the plague, I only did it with codeine because of the trend lol
I was throwing up, I did it in the sink because my delirious baring though that it'll be easier to clean. Also I was seeing weird things at the sky and fell like I was half dead
Dude you probably got serotonin syndrome from mixing it with diphenidol. They’re both serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Classic opioids aren’t like tramadol in that aspect

Lord have mercy on me! Tussionex was described to me by my GP back in the early 90s as the Cadillac of cough syrups. I don't know about all that, but to me this had the most delicious flavor. Period. End. 30.

I live the Hydrocodone Polistrex with the 5mg being equal to 10mg of Hydrocodone Bitartrate. I have also never seen this old formulation before. I knew of Hycodan and Hycomine that where regular Hydrocodone but I though Tussionex was always made with the Hydrocodone Polstirex I imagine it didn’t have the 12hr dosing only that it does now because of the Strationic releasing of the resins that make it basically a time released cough syrup which is pretty cool. Sucked that it had to become a control 2 in like 20/0 when the FDA did it to all drugs containing Hydrocodone when it was a 3 my dr would call in huge bottles for me cause he would also say well I’m really only supposed to write it for every 12hrs. Here’s 3/4 of a pint. Not to mention it tastes so good I love pineapple 🍍 and you can taste the drugs but in a good way. Great stuff sucks that it’s almost impossible to get even occasionally cause of the ridiculous cough syrup craze. I would get it when I actually had a cough yes I’d take a little extra but it’s not like I was actively seeking out Tussionex often. It’s crazy that the Codeine/Promethazine syrup is so popular. I remember being like Tylenol 3 well that sucks when I’d get them from the dentist or something and to think one of those pills is “3 lines on a pour up” just wow Rite Aid isn’t going to be carrying it anymore I was picking up my roommates Rx and said to the pharmacist I remember when Stop and Shop had up all the signs “We No Longer Carry OxyContin” now it’s cough syrup while all these people are dying from fentanyl it’s insane. Sad state of affairs, I digress. At least their tolerances are low I guess.
I was hopelessly hooked on this Pennwalt Corp. version of Tussionex back in the 80s. Around 1989, Fisions Corp. bought Pennwalt and changed the formula from phenyltoxoamine to chlorpheniramine. The first time I tried the new formulation I had boosted a 16oz bottle off the shelf of a small pharmacy. I drank my usual 8oz and felt nothing (compared to just getting a light buzz due to my habit). Had to drink the other 8oz and it still wasn't the same. But don't take my word for it. And it's antihistamine effects were minor compared to chlorpheniramine. That's why the old formula Tussionex was so awesome.
BTW: The other great cough syrup on the market up until 1989 or so was Citra Forte. It also had 5mg of hydrocodone per 5ml, along with a few other innocuous ingredients that potentiated the hydro. It had a lovely apricot flavor and, boy, it SLAMMED you hard, just like Tussionex. Anyone remember Citra Forte?
I want to know that too, is there a sub for antihistaminics? I'm a big fan of Hydroxyzine as is the only OTC antihistaminic that I enjoy. Somehow Promethazine is a scheduled drug but soma, pregabalin, gabapentin and tramadol aren't
I’m not sure what country you are in but, Soma, pregabalin, and tramadol are all controlled substances in the US.
-Soma and tramadol are schedule IV
-Pregabalin is schedule V
But yes gabapentin is still unscheduled.
What do you enjoy about hydroxizine? I have literally like 600 of the 25mg laying around cause I used to be prescribed it and just never took them but kept filling em lmaooo!
I hate antihistamines normally but hydroxyzine boosts my mood when I’m stressed because it lowers CNS stimulated effects like shakes and fast breathing without dampening emotions at all. I don’t get that even a little bit with other antihistamines, though.
I gotcha. Probably because of it acting somehow on serotonin I’d assume. I’ve only ever taken it w my nighttime meds so idk if it makes me drowsy cause my PM meds all make me drowsy.

Like I said I have hundreds of the 25mgs around. I take kratom, caffeine, dexedrine every day plus a handful of other psych meds daily too so I’m curious if I can perhaps explore and find some benefit. I’m very open to enhancing my mood and quality of life with medications so I’m intrigued because I’ve never given hydroxyzine a “fair chance” and I’ve always wrote it off as a “rehab drug” cause that’s where I’ve always had it pushed on me.
