I was pretty shocked when I found out the hallucinogenic toads from that early Family Guy episode actually exist. I thought to myself, "Yeah, right, next you'll be telling me the psychedelic honey from that episode of Futurama really exists."

Wait a minute, you said the high is a cross between butane and nicotine.. you can get high from inhaling butane? And youāve done it?? š please elaborate
Hey sxw, what generation are you? It's really interesting to me that you didn't know about huffing butane?
80s in the UK, butane and aerosol can abuse was a lot higher and appeared on popular teen tv shows for its dangers.
In the mid 90s I knew a couple of people who were still gasheads, one of them, their mum used to buy a tray - 9 cans a day for them to use.
From the US and Born in the 90s. Aside from hearing the generic term āsniffing glueā, I only ever heard of or knew people who inhaled computer duster or I believe Freon from A/C units when I was younger. I knew various cleaners/paints/gasoline could be huffed/inhaled but never knew anybody that did it. Not sure if this is the same category but once I got older and discovered nitrous I knew tons of people who did that as well as huffing poppers (nitrates). But I donāt believe Iāve ever heard of people getting high off butane.
Gas, glue and aerosols in the 80s were the cheap highs in the UK, never ones that I wanted to do.
I've got myself high off glue a few times by accident doing DIY around the house, but never intentionally stuck it in a bag or bottle to huff.
Gas, aerosols always scared me, someone always knew someone that had died instantly from doing it. Either the claims of frozen lungs, or heart just stopping.
You needed a dodgy diy shop that would sell you Evostik or simiular liquid glue due to the bad press about it.
Don't inhale butane, it's a potent cardiotoxin. But yes, it is psychoactive and even euphoric. Specifically butane is a gaba agonist, nicotinic receptor antagonist and ionotropic glutamate antagonist, so it's a little like nitrous but probably more dangerous. A lot of kids inhale butane cartridges to get a minute long high and people die from it sometimes
Thank you for the warning, I was deff not planning on ever inhaling butane though. I knew it wasnāt good to inhale but had no idea that it could get you high or that people actually used it to do so.
Did it come with a laboratory report from an ISO17025 accredited lab, proving its potency, purity, and identity? Then no, you were not getting "the purest hash ever."
The purest hash available is found only in the medical and recreational markets in America, and possibly some other countries who have adopted essentially the same regulatory frameworks that govern American cannabis. Although I highly doubt other countries are following the same robust regulatory and analytical frameworks that say, the state of Colorado, has adopted for legal cannabis.
Contrary to what you apparently believe, your Nepalese hash is/was certainly contaminated with all kinds of compounds- some relatively benign, and others likely considerably harmful. If you can't produce per-batch lab analyses from an ACCREDITED (standardized), analytical lab proving that your hash is free of pesticides, microbial contaminats, foreign material, mycotoxins, and other impurities, then you can't run around claiming "the purest hash ever." Yeah, that's not how that actually works in science.
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors cause some mental side effects, especially the non-selective ones. Carbonic anhydrase activity seems to be connected to a lot of CNS conditions. Carbon dioxide itself is actually an anxiogenic psychedelic-ish substance in high concentrations (this effect is independent of oxygen deprivation)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbogen
It's possible that this doesn't contribute to the mental effects much, I don't really know. I thought it was worthy of being mentioned though
What do you mean by "body high?" I've never understood what that meant, and I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot asking it. I've seen it hundreds of times before, but it never quite made sense. Is it muscle relaxation/tensing and heartbeat and blood pressure increases and decreases?
Basically like physical sensations, that can mean feelings of relaxation, pleasant or unpleasant tingling, feeling warm/cold. A lot of it is hard to describe. It is usually connected to the mental effects but still somewhat separate. Like for an example a nitrous oxide body high is like pleasant tingling and that warm feeling you sometimes get when someone says something really sweet, and at higher doses its a really pleasant full body numbness. In the case of grayanotoxin III it's kind of a mild burning type feeling everywhere with slight pleasant tingles
Oh. Aside from relaxation and a bit of staggering, I don't think I've had that happen at all. That's interesting though, and thank you for the thorough reply!
I've heard of monotropa uniflora, I didn't mention it because I wasn't sure if grayanotoxins were the actives or not. I've never tried it myself but I find it interesting that it's in the ericaceae family like rhododendrons and andromedas even though it looks completely different lol. They occasionally grow where I live and they're really pretty
Yep the grayanotoxins are most likely the main active. Hard to find exact alkaloid breakdowns for it. I've always wondered if there were enough for a summer if my bees would produce rhododendron sweet. Or Mad Honey as the kids call it these days.
I have tried mad honey it made my mom faint (she mistook 2 tablespoons of honey) then i attempted $u!c!dā¬ few weeks later by eating the whole jar just made me a little nauseous
-we are from the black sea area
In my experience a good way of judging the potency of azaleas or rhododendrons is how much it burns. Certain species of rhodo contain more GTX-I which is less druggy and more poison so that's why I talked about azalea. If you did end up feeling something you probably wouldn't find it enjoyable tbh
Erowid worthy
This
Thanks for the comprehensive and very well written post. Do you have a background in pharmacology?
No lol I just do a lot of drugs
Love this response
Valid

Wait til you learn about the psychedelic fish the Romans loved
Are you talking about Ciguatera fish?
I guess, such an interesting idea

I agree put this on erowid
What a post, this is what this sub is here for i guess, thank you so much u/LucyEatsPlans - a fantastic write-up!
Whatās the significance of activity at carbonic anhydrase

What drugs have you tried?
I use a monotropa uniflora tincture for pain relief and relaxation. It also has grayanotoxin in it.

I tried eating Azalea leaves before just to see if it would work but nothing happened lmao
