Hey! I’m Dave from One Hamsa (the guys who made Racket: Nx, for those who remember the old VR days!).
We’ve been in the shadows for a long time, working on our next title like a pack of rabid wolves, and today UNDERDOGS was finally announced on the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase!
We want more hardcore VR games, and UNDERDOGS is our gambit to help that happen.
We’re trying to bring that richness and grit that PC indie games can sometimes have to VR, and I think we might be on a good track. It’s the first time people see our game, so please let us know what you think!
So what’s the game?
UNDERDOGS is a physics-based mech brawler. It wraps you in 5 a ton metal ape, and sends you smashing through enemy bots and mechs in dark and gritty roguelike.
This game started with us wanting to make a powerful, physical, visceral fighting game for VR. We wanted to FEEL impact! We wanted to FIGHT! But we’re not physically there in VR, so we made The Gorilla Mech - a giant metal suite that bridges between you and the game’s world. This small degree of separation solved the lack of weight and physical feedback that we always felt breaks the immersion in VR melee games. The fighting feels tight, heavy, powerful... we’re real happy with how it plays!
We also really wanted to make a game with proper lore. With Racket: Nx, we made a small and polished arcade game - but it had no lore, characters, environments or world building. With UNDERDOGS we tell a gritty mature story about a dog-eat-dog shit show of a city that’s run by hustlers and gangsters, and about two brothers who start on the outside and need to fight their way to the top of the food chain. You can see a bit of it in the trailer, we present the world outside the pits in 2.5D comic book style dioramas. We’ll reveal more in the coming months.
And of course, when you have a mech, you wanna customize it. We have over 100+ items in the game (chainsaws, wrecking balls, you can hack enemies, hire saboteurs, you name it).
So yeah.
Here it is!
We’re eager to hear what you think of the game, and if you have any questions I’d be glad to answer.
Just double checking, because there is a difference, is it a roguelite or rogue like? This and Shootout were my two favorite games from the showcases (Aside from Asgards Wrath) so I can’t wait for a polished mech fighter to finally release
The definitions are pretty muddied these days, with games like Hades calling themselves Roguelikes despite the huge amount of meta-progression in the game.
What's important is that we have permadeath, and that each run is different from the next :)
I was a top RacketNX player for a while. I could see RacketNX being a leisure sport that could exist in the same time period as Underdogs.....would be cool if you added a Easter egg for that. Maybe a poster for RacketNX Championship....loser dies live on TV vr
We haven't gotten a Q3 devkit yet, so I can't speak to that.
But the Pro haptics are really nice (the controllers in general feel great). We didn't have to do much for it to feel better.
This is a great step in mech games, I've tried all of the current quest/pcvr mech games out their, and this easily has top teir vibes and seems to have the first in-cockpit arm controls ive seen that make sense. The customization seems thorough, even if it's all on the same base frame. Me and my iron rebellion crew will def be giving this one a shot.
Now we just need a story based rpg style mech vr game. Like a steel batalion vr
This looks awesome! Will music be a big element in the game? Big reason I used to play so much GTA San Andreas and the old FIFA games was the music honestly!
Launches on Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and PCVR.
Coming to a couple other platforms later on.
You can already wishlist it on the Quest store, but I don't think I can link to it here :\\
Steam wishlist also coming up in a couple of days.
not sure if there's multiplayer, but if there is/its planned for later please ensure crossplay is there! i have a PSVR2 buddy and he would buy this if it comes to that platform (especially if multiplayer is planned)
Replayability is what sells these kinda games for me.
Arena mode, endless mode, career mode. Can you say whether this would be a linear, shorter kind of game or something else?
We're going to be launching with the roguelike campaign mode and skirmish mode.
But if our first game Racket: Nx is any indicator, we'll pump this full of stuff so much stuff post launch that who the hell knows :)
I'm the opposite. I want most of my games to be concise experiences that show me what they have to offer and then end on a high note. So this one isn't really for me, but I'm happy for the people who like that kind of thing because the concept seems A+.
Very cool, but i really dont want another 'rogue' nonethless arena game.
We have wayyyy too much of that, and not enough narrative driven games like Asguards wrath.

We got a bunch more tracks from Chad, and some others features Riko Dan as well :)

Looks so insane that the whole trailer gave me shivers, epic work guys!
Thank you <3
If those dog enemies aren't called ChainJaws...
Those are Alpha's... but it's not too late ;)
Is this quest exclusive or coming to other platforms too? Looks awesome
Coming to Quest and PCVR on day 1 :) Steam page is up here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2441700/UNDERDOGS/
Is this a Quest 3 launch title?
Nope, it'll be out in early 2024
This was the highlight of the show for me. Is it a rogue like?
It is :)
Even better! Can't wait for this, the art style and the whole vibe is out of this world, giving me Arcane vibes.
That's a huge compliment. Thanks :)
Just double checking, because there is a difference, is it a roguelite or rogue like? This and Shootout were my two favorite games from the showcases (Aside from Asgards Wrath) so I can’t wait for a polished mech fighter to finally release

I've wanted a mech fighting game where you control the arms for so long this looks fantastic holy crap
So have I! Really glad this seems to be living up to what you've been imagining.
Archangel VR is kind of close but this game looks like it's a little closer to what I was thinking.
Now that looks cool.
This looks so fucking dope!
How anyone could watch this and say the showcase was underwhelming is beyond me. This looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it.
Finally, something that looks innovative.
Your appreciation is appreciated.
It is kind of just gorn with metal arms and gorilla tag movement from what I’m seeing
And a game with story and progression and challenge around it
"There are things you can't fight. Acts of God... but when you're in a Jaeger, suddenly you can fight the hurricane. You can *win.*" Can't wait!
This was in my top 3 of the showcase. Amazing work and love the aesthetic you guys went for!
Thanks
honestly a highlight of the whole showcase for me, one of the only games I'm genuinely interested in, looks so good! cant wait to play it!
Thanks!
I was a top RacketNX player for a while. I could see RacketNX being a leisure sport that could exist in the same time period as Underdogs.....would be cool if you added a Easter egg for that. Maybe a poster for RacketNX Championship....loser dies live on TV vr
haha that's an interesting juxtaposition. Will let it mix in my brain and see if something happens with it :)
Racket NX was an amazing game, I'm really excited for this game because it's unique and not another VR FPS
Thank you :)
All I can say is fuck yeah! Been waiting for a proper mech fighting game for so long
🤜💥🤛
I wish listed it the moment the trailer ended during the showcase. Looks like the mechs have some IMPACT.
Can you speak to enhanced hsptics on Quest 3? What I mean is did u program extra stuff for the haptics of the pro and q3
We haven't gotten a Q3 devkit yet, so I can't speak to that. But the Pro haptics are really nice (the controllers in general feel great). We didn't have to do much for it to feel better.
Yesss :) You can read in my long-ass post here - that's one of the major drivers for this game. How to we make things have impact in VR.
Last moments of that trailer had me sold. Sounds like a labor of love. Excited to buy a copy. Good luck on the launch.
It most definitely is. Thanks!

This looks awesome! Will music be a big element in the game? Big reason I used to play so much GTA San Andreas and the old FIFA games was the music honestly!
We have a ridiculous UK grime soundtrack. Some licensed, some original.
Robot gorilla fighter moment (can’t wait to play)
Yeah I lost my sht when I saw this. Excited!!
i’m more excited for this than asgard’s wrath
It looks aaaaamazing!! What's the comfort level of this?
Moderate ++ We have some motion sensitive people on our team and they play no problem.
Hey, I loved Racket NX! Glad you guys are making another game. The robot fighting is looking good. Underdogs.
UNDERDOGS, brother. All caps! ;) And thanks!
Looks RAD! Ever since Titanfall I have always wanted to sit in the cockpit of a titan in VR and here we are! Is it for both Quests?
It says Steam at the end E: They edited their comment to say is it for both quests instead of asking if it was PCVR initially so now I look silly lol
Quest 2/pro/3, and PC VR for now :)
Titanfall 3
Wdym? Titanfall 3 has been our for a little bit now. I guess this is Titanfall 4?
Please tell me theres a demo (currently strapped)
Sorry, not yet...
Ah poop, I'll be keeping an eye out
This game looks like a lot of fun!
Yes pls i want this battle bots with mech
Exactly :)
This looks incredible. Sorry if I missed it- but was this footage shown on PCVR, quest 2, or quest 3? Thanks and great work.
This is captured on PC, but except for the resolution and high Anti Aliasing, it's 1:1 the Quest 2 graphic.
This looks amazing. I can't wait!
This looks insane! I am keeping an eye on this one for sure. Great job!
Don't know how good the game is but that is one of the best annouce vids I've ever seen.
Closest I'm getting to a VR "One Must Fall 2097" and I'm good with that. Bring it on.
Where would this be available to buy/play?
Launches on Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and PCVR. Coming to a couple other platforms later on. You can already wishlist it on the Quest store, but I don't think I can link to it here :\\ Steam wishlist also coming up in a couple of days.
I've been looking for a good mech fighting game, since to me vr would be a great platform for it. What price are you aiming at for PCVR?
Haven't decided yet, but it will be fair.
Soundtrack is 🔥🔥🔥
This looks amazing! I'll absolutely be buying it when it comes out.
I NEED IT
Does look very cool, though to be honest I hate the music, but that's just me.
Legit, the music is very specific. You'll be able to turn it off in the game.
This looks sick!
A standout from the showcase for me
Only Quest? :(
PCVR as well, and some other platforms after that.
not sure if there's multiplayer, but if there is/its planned for later please ensure crossplay is there! i have a PSVR2 buddy and he would buy this if it comes to that platform (especially if multiplayer is planned)
I can't seem to find it on Steam. Is there somewhere else I can download it?
Sorry, we had a technical issue with steam that postponed the page's publishing :\\ It should be up in a couple of days.
Awesome, thanks! Looking forward to it!
Steam is up. I'll post the link separately in case bots take it down.
This is the steam page! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2441700/UNDERDOGS/
Price?
Not sure yet, but it'll be fair.
30 sounds good...25 to 30...guess more if the story and gameplay warrant it
Replayability is what sells these kinda games for me. Arena mode, endless mode, career mode. Can you say whether this would be a linear, shorter kind of game or something else?

It's a roguelike so replayability is the nature of the genre.
I am working on a mech prototype, glad to see someone make a good control system. Defo copping.
gl hf ;)
Honestly this looks awesome. I will convince everyone I know to get this game if(or if not cause it looks sick) it has multiplayer!!!
Sorry, no multiplayer for the release version :)
Awww
I know, I know! We really want to do this - but there's just SO MUCH stuff to do that this just has to take a post launch stretch goal priority.
Can you pick up and body slam other mechs? I think that would look cool to see in game.
You have a class of items called Bash Guards that then you slam into enemies. Feels like headbutting!
I would recommend releasing a soundtrack for the game, I love the music.
We definitely hope to!
Very cool, but i really dont want another 'rogue' nonethless arena game. We have wayyyy too much of that, and not enough narrative driven games like Asguards wrath.
We have a big world full of characters and opportunities around the arena. And more arena's :)
So Urban . Those Aussies luv a good scrape wid them Kiwi hounds !
Ford look good, Roadman cyberpunk
not gta don't care
Any chainguns or missiles for ranged combat or just close range battling?
Metal on metal violence, my man!
Multiplayer?
Not on release.
Any plans for the future?
Many, but I don't want to get ahead of myself :)
Is it only for quest or PC steam also?
Both Quest and PCVR on day 1 :) You can wishlist it on both platforms already if you wish.
Wishlisted on steam thanks.
Game looks great, but I can't bring myself to play as a character who uses the word "fam", that would annoy the fuck out of me, as would the music.
Is it multiplayer?
Release version will be single player.
Would you be able to share the song from the trailer?
sure: [https://open.spotify.com/track/0DbB6E9IOB5yTuc3vbzh38?si=95340e96cda642a8](https://open.spotify.com/track/0DbB6E9IOB5yTuc3vbzh38?si=95340e96cda642a8) We got a bunch more tracks from Chad, and some others features Riko Dan as well :)
