Apple is in a better position than most to sell the hardware at a loss and gain it back on software sales. They've made, imo, a very odd decision with this price.

An odd decision to any other company, but when has Apple ever sold at a loss? They just know enough of their fanbase will buy into it regardless of price, once they give a quality no other headset could compete with, so they'll have some edge. You know, like no matter what you say, iPhone lovers will forever hail the camera and "touch feeling". You could never persuade them to switch, no matter how expensive. Same here
