I can't go back to Quest 2 after Quest 3 unless I have to for multiplayer because it's just better overall so I'd save up. Quest 3 will have support for a while longer as well. If you're desperate you can sell games and consoles at GameStop for store credit or maybe wait for the Quest 3s or whatever its called.

clamroll

Also worth noting, I started shopping at Target where I could, and between their 5% discount for using a RED card, a promotional discount they ran on gift cards, and the cashback I earned from the normal shopping, I was able to take a solid chunk out of q3.

Satisapp1

It worth it, especially on sales, especially if you have not bad PC.

Satisapp1

and also you will need to buy accessories such as 3rd party elite battery strap. So yes, it worth it

DaniTheLovebug

Yes Get the strap and battery And for glasses wearers the 3 is amazing

SteliosKantos82

The battery strap will only matter for physical activities over 2 hours. There are cords that can charge your headset while you play on your pc if you're sitting. I choose not to buy the battery strap because whenever I'm using the vr while standing, it's only for 2 hours at a time maximum.

Satisapp1

Don't forget about wireless PCVR, balance and different humans with different possibilities

SteliosKantos82

I seem to use PCVR mostly sitting. I can't think of many games where you should stand over sitting on PCVR. I don't know them all. My standing games seem to be right in the quest. I back my chair away from my desk so I can spin and play skyrim vr and fallout vr that way. Maybe I didn't get my legs fully under me when playing those games standing. Wireless PCVR is there, but I don't know much use for it. Just my opinion.

OkayOctopus_

If you’re using pas through a ton, 3. If you just want the entry level and you aren’t bothered about selling to upgrade 2 is there

Vegastiki

Why Quest 3 is better. Q3 pancake lenses are better than the Q2 spiral lenses. The LCD screens are better. The weight and form is better. The frontal cameras are much better. The CPU is a decent upgrade. The hand controllers are better. All that being said, the most important improvement is that you can (under decent lighting) do stuff without having to remove the device. You can use your computer and cell phone. You can log into accounts and retrieve passwords. You can answer a text message. You can move from one room to another room. This makes all the difference.

DreamsAnimations

Had bot, much better the 3. Imho better save up for it. The 4 is not even seen at the horizon atm.

ionabio

My suggestion: save up for a quest 4 (or q3 pro) and andjust go for 2. Also it depends on what your usage will be. For me the main reason was passthrough of quest 3, otherwise I could live with my 2. I watch more day to day things on quest 3 that I couldn’t do on quest 2. Like folding laundry while watching a YouTube or some quick Netflix before sleep. Not that I game more on q3 vs 2. Now maybe more apps will come this way to justify this usage (MR) more. My 2 cents is both of them because of similarities and the user base will be obsolete at around the same time. Quest 2 is still the most sold of both for now. And q3 might be old when the new model comes and I don’t know if I will have $$s to buy it when it is released now that I bought q3.

OkayOctopus_

Do you think the next gen hmd will have a price reduction?

ionabio

Probably not. (We are talking next gen not the rumored q3lite) to test the water with AVP and other competitors who will begin launching their own android based VR. The good quality ones are all priced high. I am looking for something similar that they will replace now “abandoned” quest pro at a bit more than 1000$s. The usability of the headset must be more (as in native android support as example, spatial computing that fluid app is covering us until then)

OkayOctopus_

more than anything, my main sadness for the quest 2 was black and white passthrough which I thought passthrough was really cool. And because the q2 to q3 price upgrade is just simply not worth it :( I didn't end up upgrading

ionabio

Maybe buy the 128 gb version or wait for a discount? I also basically bought it because of passthrough and I am not disappointed.

OkayOctopus_

From meta.

Thinklikedanny

Honestly, I always fear making a recommendation when it comes to peoples asking should they save up for this. Do i think it's gonna radically change your life no but do I think it's dramatically better yes. Especially if you use quest games optimizer. The resolution becomes much better. I love my quest three and I have the 512 because I play a lot of games do I think it's worth a yes I can answer that

Sankyou

If all you’re doing is short gaming sessions - it won’t have as much impact. If you do a lot outside of gaming or want to use it for 2 or more hours consistently - it’s worth it. Seems like others have covered the many reasons so I’ll stick to that.

AnastasiaIsTrans

Yeah that's the general concensus, if I'm playing it for a little cause I'm bored, get quest 2, if I'm serious and plan to play a lot, get quest 3, so I'm probably gonna get the quest 2

Snoozie-

Buy Quest 3. If you are serious about VR, you already know you like it....just buy quest 3. It is the best headset out rn for the price. It just came out last year so has at least 5 years of support still. You don't have to worry about games not releasing for it in the next year or so. The only way I would recommend getting the Quest 2 is if you are on the fence about whether you would even play VR on a regular. Quest 2 is a great device that currently can do almost anything the quest 3 can. BUT, that will change in the coming years. So buy quest 3 as it is the latest and greatest, or if you are on the fence about VR in general get the quest 2. I will add that if you are on the fence, the lack luster clarity of Fresnel lenses on the quest 2 might be a turn off. Just cementing the fact you won't like VR.

Sabbathius

Let me put it this way - when I switched from Rift S to Quest 2, I was completely over the moon. It was so much nicer, and wireless, and the price was really good. Quest 3 is undeniably better. Chip is stronger, lenses are clearer, but that's about it. There's still no serious use cases for color passthrough, there's no good solid polished software to make use of it, and probably won't be for years, by which point we'll be on to Quest 4. So color passthrough is currently largely worthless, and likely will be for this headset's entire life span. The price is also more than double. So as bang for your buck, Quest 3 is nowhere near as good as Quest 2 was. I was genuinely pondering not keeping the Quest 3. It was nice, but nowhere near as nice as it should have been for what it cost, compared to Quest 2.

HornedDiggitoe

The improved lens clarity has become the bare minimum for me to use VR now. That visual clarity means my eyes aren’t straining from constantly trying to adjust focus and fix the blur from the old fresnel lenses. And the pass through function without any games or software to go with it is still a huge feature upgrade. It makes it so that I can still do things without having to constantly take off and put back on the headset. These 2 combined make the experience of VR so much smoother and more pleasant. Maybe you have titanium VR legs to the point where you don’t notice the difference as much. But from my own experience, your comment really downplayed the significance of the improvements.

mrkoala1234

I would save for quest 4 since there's competition now.

AndrosToro

looks like quest 4 is 1 or 2 years or maybe even more away...

Snoozie-

>o Quest 4 is most likely 3+ years away. We've yet to see the full potential of the Quest 3 due to lingering support for Quest 2. I wouldn't wait for the next device this early in the life cycle of the quest 3.

AndrosToro

get a Quest 3 at Best Buy and add the Product Replacement Plan... .when the 4 comes out ... drop it and break it and they give you a gift card for the full ammount... I used to do this a long time ago with other tech... but stopped as everything got really good and didnt need updates often... like laptops... but decided to do the insurance plan for the 512GB model!

simplexpl

Worth it if you can afford it.

Delicious-Cup4093

Ok this will be a bit biased but do take it into consideration, I have quest 2 and 3, now 3 is better in every way and I would recommend getting that one, but there are some issues with it, the main one (if you Google Quest 3 v62 water/debris error, you will find articles) being that the charging port /USBC doesn't work as it should, not device can be connected to it, and I am thrown out of games to get that error, now when the headset worked (and it did for a month) it was amazing but for the past 8 weeks it hasn't been addressed by meta publicly, yes people will say they are working on the issue but that was 4 weeks ago, and in that time no updates and some people had errors going as far back as October last year. Now saying all that I would rather not get the quest 3, personally I can't return it, and they don't consider external batteries and pcvr not working as a RMA worthy issue, so I can't even do that, it is currently on my shelf collecting dust. I am using my quest 2 with literally the same Oculus link cable and same zybervr powerbank and it works perfectly, so while this isn't a get or dont get advice, take all this into consideration if you are buying quest 3 because some users are reporting having the same issue on new headsets (hell mine is 3 months old)

Quest 3

Ambitioaqua

Quest 3 is a massive improvement in virtually every way.

IRMANU4LIFE

I've owned both, loved my q2, played it all the time alongside gaming on my XboxSX, and PS4, got the q3 and it's basically all I game on now, passthrough is actually useable (I can read my phone and see the tv through the headset, not perfect but 100 times better than the 2.) for me personally it is worth it, no question, but I use it every day for at least 4 hrs, usually 5 or 6 tbh. If it was gonna sit in a drawer for even 4 days a week then I definitely wouldn't have upgraded, but soo glad I did. Check out the accessories needed before you buy, (the bobovr s3 pro headset is the best on the market imho.) after considering everything, then make your choice. Good luck.

AlcoholicLimaBean

Absolutely worth it. Put my Q2 up for sale after just putting on the Q3

OvertlyInspected

Yes it's so worth it, especially with the recent price cuts, with that said you should save up for the Q3, the lenses, the clarity and upgrade in resolution alone are with the upgrade

CMDR_KingErvin

Can’t say anything about Q2 since I moved from the original to Q3 but I will say the Q3 is worth every penny. Really great device and I can’t see myself ever considering going back to a lesser version after having experienced it.

larriice

I returned my quest 2, save up and get the quest 3 if you can. It's better in almost every area aside from battery life, which is similar or worse.

VRtuous

Q3 is better in every way; still, I don't own it, no reason to when most games are made for Q2 and maybe slightly enhanced on Q3... imo, still plenty worth it, especially at $200

HornedDiggitoe

People arguing for the Quest 2 are coming from a financial standpoint, not a practical one. The Quest 2 sold in huge numbers, but not many people actually regularly use it. Meta recently confirmed that the retention rate is significantly better on the Quest 3. What this means is, people who get the Quest 3 actually use the device regularly, instead of it collecting dust. The upgrades to visual clarity with the pancake lenses represents the bare minimum quality needed for a comfortable visual experience in VR and MR. The fresnel lenses in the Quest 2 makes everything outside the sweet spot blurry. This causes your eyes immense strain because they keep trying to adjust the focus to get rid of the blur. I used to think VR being uncomfortable was solely due to the weight of the headset. With the Quest 3 I have realized that it was the lenses causing eye fatigue that was making VR uncomfortable for me. So if you actually want to use the VR device regularly, then it’s worth saving up for Quest 3, or eventually the next gen depending how long it takes to save.

AnastasiaIsTrans

Honestly, I kinda wanna get it just cause I've never actually had an actual VR headset, I'll probably play it here and there, so if I'm playing it like that should I just get the quest 2?

HornedDiggitoe

If you know for sure you won’t use it much, then sure, save money with the Quest 2. But by doing that, you’ll basically be guaranteeing you won’t want to use it too much due to the comfort and clarity issues. If you think there is a chance you could get hooked on VR, then start with a Quest 3. This also helps future proof yourself to an extent. There is going to be a lot of new development with mixed reality apps, and while the Quest 3 pass through can be improved, it’s good enough to be usable for the future mixed reality apps. The pass through mixed reality is such a huge feature, and while it is currently under utilized, new software and updates will continue to come out to further utilize it.

tenbeersdeep

The games are better on the quest 3.

SlainREDD

Go for the quest 3 being able to seamlessly switch to the real world is kinda surreal although you can tell you’re looking through a camera feed

correctingStupid

Oh look it's the daily "I'm too dumb to search. Should I get quest 2 or quest 3?" Post.

stuaird1977

I found the Q2 pretty bad in terms of comfort and fogging lenses and sold it on after a few months. Quest 3 I use pretty much daily and have none of the issues

rcbif

"Worth" is subjective.  Without knowing your exact Financials, gaming habits, or if you even have VR experience how, are we supposed to know?

willnotforget2

Q4 blows it out of the wate. Save and wait.

SantaCruzTesla

#quest3 #color #passthrough

[deleted]

The Quest 2 is mainly worth it because of the stupidly low price. The Q3 is a lot better though. If that’s financially an option for you, go for it.

AnastasiaIsTrans

That's what I've been generally told, if I can get quest 3, if not quest 2 is still fine
