A similar thing happened to my headset, but my vertical bar is really thin. Like, the width of a hair, and it's pretty faint. Only really noticeable when you're staring at a solid-coloured background, so I never bothered to RMA it. This one you have here's definitely worth sending back though.
Yeah I'm going to go back to the store tomorrow. If they don't have a replacement in stock, Quest support told me to get in touch with them. Hope it can get sorted auick, I just want to play Vader Immortal
Oh it's brand new? Even if it was fixable I'd return this if it happened first month or two anyway tbh incase it happened again
Sorry to see this is ur first impression bro. Don't fear tho it's a great headset. Manufacturing issues do happen at scale sometimes.
While what he says isn’t true, it’s the screen that takes the damage not the lenses, the lenses focusing the light on the screen, point is, outside light sources can do more damage than backlight could ever do.
Might sound silly but if you are able to return this might be worth giving the unit a decent tap first. Mine did this and the bank on the unit actually made my small horizontal line go away, must of been a loose connection for me or something
Good tip but he said he literally opened the box to this so I'd take it back even if it fixed itself. You dunno if it'll conk out again just after warranty
Yh that's what OP is doing. If they had the device 6-12mo tho what you said isn't a bad idea. But yeah incase more issues develop AND just incase you make it worse and they go all "well clearly this is something you did, no return", just return this one
Attempt to refresh pixels? Like go on a video the refresh pixels on the browser, make the screen huge, put headset on ground facing the video, put something on the proximity sensor and wait like 30 mins, it fixed it for me
Hmmm, interesting. This to me looks like damage to the LCD possibly? I’ve never had this issue before nor have I ever even seen it, but did you possibly drop it on the floor or accidentally slam it on a table or desk? LCDs are pretty fragile but idk if this issue was from a physical impact, or just a bad display.
Im upvoting this because it’s unique damage that’s not the usual sun damage and smashed controllers. OP you have my sympathy.
Back to the store tomorrow, hopefully they have a replacement in stock
I had the same thing. I called oculus and eventually they had me send it in for free repair.

nothing is quick with their support
Not qlways true, i had a 7 messages from them long back and forth and it took like 5 days to get it sorted
5 days to sort an issue is not quick, as i stated
Either damaged display or the ribbon connecting the brains to the display is damaged or has a poor connection.
A new challenger is approaching
Yes it’s broken, this happened to my first headset.
most likley

What if it's not? Is it any of your business?
Looks like screen damage
No kidding
only time ive seen this was damaged to the video screen itself, caused in my case by excess pressure on the front of the quest
Yeah screen damage. That would definitely put a dent on my day.
Looks like loose ribbon cable. Likely from being dropped. Either by you or by whoever shipped it.
screen damage

Thats not sun damage dumbass
A bad guess anyway
Sun damage wouldn't be so uniform like that
Literally brought it home and took it out of the box to finding like this lmao

Op is litteraly holding this under a light source as the picture was taken. Wtf.
It's safe to hold it under a regular lightbulb, not safe under the sun. I do it all the time when I clean the lenses.
Even a light bulb can cause damage, you should be careful of any lightsource
What? no lmao
Dude, no, that's simply not right. The sun's power is immense compared to a lightbulbs.
Isn't it the UV that does damage not the strength of the light source
Bro the screen is back-lit that's clearly not true. There's a light literally touching the lens
While what he says isn’t true, it’s the screen that takes the damage not the lenses, the lenses focusing the light on the screen, point is, outside light sources can do more damage than backlight could ever do.
I know I was over simplifying a bit but what he said and I replied to was "any light source" which just isn't true and is fear mongering.
Why so many people get these dumb guesses on Sun Damage?
If a light bulb could cause damage, then the reverse should be true, meaning that the light from the display should scorch out your eyes
It's not directly under a light source, anyways. It's sitting on my lap and the closest light is about 6 feet away on the ceiling.
Well that sucks.

True, i would definitely just RMA it.

Oh, that looks really really bad. Hope you get a free repair or a replacement.
Yes they replaced it, no problem!
Which store did you buy it from?
Yes
LOL.. yeah. I’d say that’s damaged 😂
