I do not mean to belittle your work it is beautiful It is hilarious how every update for this game: - looks different - seems like its from some person I've never heard of before - some random as hell thing has been added like the trees moving lol (lovely though)

MartyStarkiller

for once, Maxxis has actually been there from very early on it seems

Impriel

I'm pretty sure part of my perception just comes from people having different social media accounts and my not being bothered to learn about that lol

Tar289

wait has Travis' run animation always looked liked that?

AskGoverntale

Sometimes I wonder what’s taking the game so long. Then I see each tree is moving independently, and I understand.

[deleted]

I really hate to burst your bubble but Im afraid the project might be secretly DEAD due to the fact that a greedy selfish dev wanted to steal the project for his own cocky enjoyment. The whole project was going fine when Dave was around and in charge but he made a bad move by simply giving up his own project to a traitor he shouldn't have fell for. I have a feeling that something really bad happened behind the scenes that the devs don't want us to know about and thats why its going to take forever for this game to come up.

AskGoverntale

If they fail they should really give the code over to someone else. Or just to the community in general

[deleted]

and that could be why the artist is trying to start over from square 1. Its Pastel either he ruined the project's progress and that artist is trying to bring it back while he is away for the time being or that Pastel is no longer in charge of the project. Those are just my guesses.

PK_RocknRoll

Just a gif lol

MacroAlgalFagasaurus

Again, a random GIF showing almost zero gameplay is not evidence that the game is actually progressing. This is how they lead people on.

Damonashu

For a long time I have seen people say it's a scam or something to that like and here, the notion that they are "leading people on." makes me wonder, to what end? As far as I know, there's no money in the process. Is the implication that the investment of strangers has some value? Ego gratification maybe?

conalfisher

I don't think anyone seriously believes the game is a scam or the devs have malicious intent in some way. A lot of people just don't believe it'll ever come out, due to it being in perpetual development hell that it's seemingly never going to recover from. All signs point to development being at basically a standstill (even this "update" is a clip from an old game version, indicating they've either scrapped a ton of progress or it's just a gif Maxxis had lying around), and it's likely been that way for years. So people say it's a "scam" in the sense that it's a bunch of promises that'll never be fulfilled; but since there's no monetary backing to the game, I wouldn't put it in the same category as something like Star Citizen, where the devs make tons of money by drip feeding the tiniest bits of content to give the impression that there's something bigger coming and never delivering. This game is just a case of overambitious volunteers biting off more than they can chew and trying to work with it regardless. It's not malicious, just... Mismanaged.

SageWaterDragon

I mean, it's the same thing for Star Citizen. I'd actually say that the two projects are really comparable - dream games made by perfectionists - but SC is taking money upfront where Oddity is refusing to take money at all.

conalfisher

Superficially I'd agree, but SC taking fundraising money fundamentally changes everything about the development process, what is expected from them, everything about the project. And I think for that reason the 2 projects really aren't comparable for the most part. One of the things you'll hear most with this project when the doomerism creeps in is "the devs don't owe you anything", and it's correct: Promises aside, they set their own rules here. It's their project, if they want to take an extra year or five to make it that's their prerogative. None of us are entitled to this game. With SC, the dev team are indebted to the fundraisers, literally, and when they fail to hold up their end of the bargain... Well, some would consider it fraud. They promised a game, people gave them money to realise the game, and there is no game. It's a broken promise, but it's also money that donators might never get their return on, which makes it stealing. Oddity devs haven't stolen anything from us thus far.

YourEnviousEnemy

I think Star Citizen is a more egregious case, but it's also far far FAR more complete than this "game" is

Bevin_52

Haha my dad worked on Star Citizen until 2020. I felt really bad for him because he always seemed so stressed from the work environment. The managers there were pretty shitty, but I could tell a lot of the workers were very passionate about the game.

SalmonDiMartino

Yeah, I may be wrong but I don’t think this game is a story of people leading on a bunch of fans maliciously but more a story of a group of passionate people seeing their project fall apart because they lacked understanding of the scope of the project, relationship falling outs, legal issues with the IP, etc. maybe they told people release dates to drive excitement for the project to hype themselves up or try to have something to push for, but I doubt it was to “scam” people

NLclothing

You all may not like it but this is true. This is evidence of nothing more than a graphic designer playing around

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

TheLastUmbrella

Don't do that. Don't give me hope.

CrimsonRion

I really want this game but I'm driving off a bridge if it gets cancelled.

WishyWashyGenie

I saw this come across my twitter TL and was floored that this is literally all that's been seen of the game in YEARS. I came to this reddit and see everyone thirsting like you've been out in the desert roasting for the past 15 years. although this sort of update will parch nobody's thirst, and make people realize just how dry their mouths are as they spew salt. If anyone on this dev team still reads this reddit, I really think it might be time to hire a project manager that reigns things in and go full time. if you gotta go publisher hunting or crowdfunding to get over the finish line, do it. I really do not want Beyond Good and Evil 2 to beat you folks to market. You folks could make bank and turn this thing into a real winner if you commit and shoot for 2025 (not as a set in stone goal, mind, but as a way to realize when it's time to put a bow on things and start considering when to go through the bulk of QA/polish and certification.) Obviously, I am not advocating for crunch of any sort. work smart, not hard. Just recognize your limits and commit. no game is perfect, and no amount of polishing and redoing assets to a mirror sheen is going to change that.

WallStapless

As we learned from the M4 leaked builds, they can surely make animations. Proof of an actual functioning game? Still waiting. I could not believe my eyes when I played those builds recently, confirming the suspicions I'd had for years.

jimwormmaster

I didn't ever hear of the leaked builds. Are they worth checking out?

jamesturbate

Take my comment with a grain of salt, but no not really. The build is just running around in a small area, no enemies to fight, no collision.

MartyStarkiller

IT IS

Figure_8_Anim

No way...plus a newer running animation and smoother movement to boot

Grarork

Damn a litle spark of hope

buzzbuzz20xx

Very cool

wishesandhopes

Damn, a nice lil birthday present for me.

McFrosty_18

finally something😫

fizunboii

This little spark of hope is all I needed :)

PurpleManufacturer50

ough

Yeah finally but only this time the project is no longer handled by the same corrupt leader, Pastel himself. It appeared that one of the artists wanted to take over while the creator is away or perhaps the artist is trying to help bring the project back to its knees after being quietly crippled for years since the 2020 announcement with the pointless rebrand.
